Starting in January, ITV will be moving its nightly news coverage to 10:30pm for eight weeks to make way for a new entertainment show titled 'The Nightly Show'. Inspired by the success of late night entertainment shows in the US, most notably that of Brit James Corden, the show will feature a "high tempo mixture of topical monologue, studio games, celebrity guests, experts and VTs". There will be a different presenter for each of the eight weeks with David Walliams hosting the first week. It appears that this may be a trial run for a regular show but ITV have also said that there are no plans to permanently move the News to a later slot. Its funny that James Corden has thrown so much attention in the UK on the US daily late night talk shows and we are due one here. Of course we have things like Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross and the Last Leg but they're only weekly things. I'm interested in seeing what this show will be like but I'm not going to hold out much hope considering its ITV, no doubt that the regular ITV people will be turning up including some random TOWIE person making a regular appearance and that Keith Lemon will host one of the weeks. I would rather Channel 4 did something like this but we'll see how it'll turn out. Hopefully it's more of a success than Late Night With Rylan was earlier in the year. |

Rather excited for this right now, I hope it can find a way to differentiate from the likes of The Jonathan Ross Show and Alan Carr's Chatty Man as well as not seeming too much like a Late Late Show clone. I'm also looking forward to seeing who they get in in the form of musical guests, it'd be nice to see some more indie and other genre recognition on TV instead of the usual pop artists performing.

Last night's Oscars cock-up has given them a gift for the first show.

I liked it! Felt very short but I guess that will be evened out by the fact it's every weekday rather than once a week.

The first bit with the 'Best Actor' category at the Oscars was great David as Emma Stone I didn't think worked quite as well.

Just watched this and oh god it's awful. Had to switch off 10 minutes early as I couldn't stand another minute of it.

Bit disappointed in this, thought it might have had more skits and maybe like a game or something. Martin Clunes as the first guest was also a bit random and I don't think that helped. There should be potential though, I just think it started with a bit of a whimper.

1 thing I don't get is why do the news items before the show even starts?
like he'd say after the news.. right, let's start the show then- and the theme tune will be played. they need to do it so that the news is actually part of the show, if i'm making sense. the top trump though.. very clever, and the main show (with the guests), not bad, and actually funny a little annoyed that david didn't actually talk to kathrine ryan (just let her do the commedy, which wasn't even funny) |

They've apparently spent months and months planning this, hiring loads of different writers and filming lots of different pilots. It baffles me that the show on Monday then was the result of all that planning! All they did was talk to Martin Clunes, with a couple of short VTs.
It doesn't fill me with hope that it will improve after all. |

Last week's shows with John Bishop were a big improvement on the Walliams shows. So far, the Davina McCall shows have been fairly poor, particularly Monday's which was awful.

I like Davina, but she just hasn't connected on this show as well as I would have liked. It would have been nice if this worked out for her, unlike her last foray into chat shows over 10 years ago, but it doesn't seem to have stuck. John Bishop did a good job, and I actually didn't mind David Walliams. Goodness knows what Gordon Ramsay's going to be like during his week.
I'm doubtful if ITV will keep this going after its current run. I think they'll chalk it up as a noble failure, like New Coke, Tin Machine & the Church of England. |

I've watched one from each week and I do think it's got better as time goes by. Dermot should have started the show off on Week 1!
