Commentary



Sigala spends his sixth consecutive week at #1 with 'Sweet Lovin', thus becoming the 2nd longest run at #1 for a song that first went to #1 in 2015, behind 'Waiting For Love' with its mammoth 12 weeks naturally. In fact the entire top 3 remain exactly the same as last week, with Shaun Frank and KSHMR spending their third week at #2 and Diviners their second week at #3.

Felix Jaehn along with multiple other people climb three places to gain a new peak of #4. It becomes his third top 5 hit following his two number ones 'Cheerleader' and 'Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)'. Niki Luparelli remains at #5 with her festive effort.

Entering the top 10 for the first time are two songs, firstly at #8 EDX with 'Belong', which jumps a massive 28 places to get its new peak. It previously peaked at #21. It becomes EDX's sixth top 10 hit. The Writer's Block have a smaller climb, of three places, to this week's #9 with 'If You Love Me'. Readers not familiar with the song may be familiar with the original version by Brownstone. The song becomes TWB's second top 10 hit following the #6 smash 'Dancing In The Dark'.

Entering the top 20 for the first time is Marcus Marr and Chet Faker. It climbs to #13. It becomes Chet's third top 20 hit and Marcus' first.

The highest new entry comes at #22 for Major Lazer featuring Nyla and Fuse ODG. It is the fifth chart hit for Major Lazer and follows up their biggest hit to date, #2 peaking 'Lean On'. It is also the fifth hit for Fuse ODG, and naturally the first for unknown Nyla.

Cappa enters at #24 with her cover of TLC's 'No Scrubs' which features Jon Santana on production. It is the first chart hit for both acts. Elsewhere in the top 30 there are debuts for Feder and Kygo, at #29 and #30 respectively. This thus removes Feder's one hit wonder status ('Goodbye' peaked at #9), and Kygo gets his 8th chart hit.

Covers seem to be a theme here, as well as the 'No Scrubs' cover there is also a cover of Tracey Chapman's 'Fast Car' which enters at #31 for Tobtok and River. Neither have scored chart hits previously. One place lower is the long-awaited return of PSY to the chart. He has previously had three chart hits, two of those making #1. It is unlikely that 'Daddy' will also go to #1.

Mike Posner gets his first hit in literally years at #35 with the SeeB remix of 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza'. He previously made the chart with 'Cooler Than Me' and Cher Lloyd collab 'With Ur Love'. The final 2 new entries come from Bishop (#45) and Owsey et al (#50).

There are quite a few re-entries this week which naturally include Christmas songs. The highest of these is at #34 for The Pogues. It spends its 21st week in the chart, although this is not enough to take the title of longest runner this week, as KSHMR's 'JAMMU' is still in the chart in its 23rd week. Hurts 'All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day' and Wham! 'Last Christmas' also re-enter, at #43 and #46 respectively.

In the albums chart, Avicii returns to #1 with 'Stories' to spend its 7th week at the top.

So happy to see Sigala 6 weeks at number 1 here. I just hope Sigala spends another week in the UK top 10.
Finally heard Martin Garrix's Poison. I really like it but Animals is still my favourite of his songs.
Kygo's Stay only at #30 Well, it's nowhere near as good as Firestone.
