BuzzJack Music Forum _ Rihanna _ Needed Me // 2nd single

Posted by: Liаm 19th March 2016, 10:29 AM

Josepvinaxia has reported this as the second single, god knows what his sources are but it's very very rare he's wrong when he says things so must have a healthy supply of inside knowledge!

Happy-ish with the choice, not sure it's a WW hit (that's of course Kiss It Better) but it's as song I'd quite like a video for if nothing else, it's creeping up my rankings of the album and is probably in my top 5.

Meh

Posted by: Dangerous Cody 19th March 2016, 04:07 PM

I think it's just gonna end up being Rhythmic/Urban stations that will get it for now since "Work" has peaked (at #1, no less) on those formats, but either way YES.

Posted by: Ethan Bradberry 19th March 2016, 05:19 PM

Don't mind this one (still a lot better than Work)

Posted by: burbe 19th March 2016, 09:40 PM

Decent choice for urban radio I think. I doubt it will be a WW hit, but I hope it might surprise us!

Posted by: River Lea 19th March 2016, 11:36 PM

All the songs they could have chosen... dry.gif This one is just okay for me.

Posted by: Joe. 20th March 2016, 12:08 AM

Oh

Posted by: johnjo07 20th March 2016, 12:13 AM

I honestly believe this is just for Urban radio. Like how 'Pour It Up' was. I can see it getting minor airplay here down to how successful 'Work' has been, but I doubt it'll translate into being an actual hit (unless the video is BBHMM type huge). I agree with whoever said that they obviously aren't too bothered about getting massive hits, coz they know they can just release 'Kiss It Better' and get one.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 20th March 2016, 02:25 AM

It has been randomly hanging on the Billboard charts.

I knew someone would say this laugh.gif 'What's My Name?' is definitely her most overrated song eva for me. I like it a bit but I would rank all other singles from 'Loud' and most of her singles discography above it.

Thank god someone else feels the same! I mean it's an 8/10 so feels odd to say but people all seem to go on like it's one of her best when for me it's probably not top 30.

Still, at least it isn't quite as overrated as We Found Love.

I used to dislike 'We Found Love'. I quite like it now, minus the instrumental parts which should've been so much more euphoric, and I can see why others like it. But with 'What's My Name?' I just don't really get the mass adoration.

Posted by: Joe. 22nd March 2016, 04:15 PM

What's My Name is within my Rihanna top 3 <3

Posted by: burbe 22nd March 2016, 05:05 PM

Wasn't Stay also a second single? heart.gif

Posted by: Cremey 22nd March 2016, 05:21 PM

This is the best off the album after 'Work' so I'm all for it being the next single.
So gooood.

Posted by: johnjo07 22nd March 2016, 05:37 PM

'What's My Name?' is phenom. So all the haters can hush their mush!

Unfaithful, Stay, What's My Name all say hi (OH and technically Bitch Better Have My Money)

Excuse me some of her 2nd singles include = 'Unfaithful', 'Shut Up & Drive', 'Rude Boy'(UK) or 'Hard' (USA), 'What's My Name', 'Stay' All these are fantastic, and okay I do agree to some extent with choices such as 'If It's Lovin' That You Want' & 'You Da One', those 2 were just lacklustre. But most of the time she does deliver an awesome follow up.

As for 'Needed Me', I kinda saw this coming due to it climbing the American charts, and while it wouldn't have been my personal choice, I do find this really good and find it as something that grows on you more with each listen. A surprising choice yes, but an interesting one and think that when it fully impacts with music video and promo & etc, it could turn out to be a surprising hit.

But really hope that future releases will include 'Kiss It Better' & 'Desparado ' sometime in the future. Especially the former and hopefully that will be the 3rd single at least.

Posted by: Cremey 25th March 2016, 11:56 AM

'Shut Up and Drive' will always be her worst single.

it's a toss up between that and 'you da one' really isn't it?

tbh i'm surprised they are even attempting to send anything else from this record to pop radio (actually i'm not after 'american hydrogen' was sent for pop adds) i don't really see anything being any sort of hit with purpose

Posted by: jark 26th March 2016, 06:01 PM

Dreadful choice! Should've been Kiss It Better.

Posted by: burbe 29th March 2016, 11:03 PM

According to her Twitter both Kiss It Better and Needed Me are being sent to radio tomorrow.

Urghhhhh... Can someone please call Don't Stop The Music Rihanna and request that she returns ASAP.

Posted by: Jonjo 21st April 2016, 07:06 AM

It was OK. But ultimately it's pretty much a non-event. It's literally just her walking through a club...

Visually stunning though.

Posted by: Joe. 21st April 2016, 08:08 AM

I really like the video, shame about the song.

Posted by: Davidson 21st April 2016, 10:35 AM

Visually it is obviously top notch due to the money spent on it.

Despite that though there is nothing else to say about it. It could have been a great video but ended up being shit due the lack of a concept. It is like they sat down and were like "how can we create a typical Rihanna bad ass video?" and just drafted in a gun, a killing scene, a club scene and made sure she wasn't wearing a bra and thought that all basis were covered by using that as a check list. Her visuals recently have either been really dull or really predictable which is a shame given the quality of the music.

Posted by: AdamAloud 21st April 2016, 02:11 PM

So much better than the 'Kiss It Better' video and the song just continues to grow and grow.

Posted by: Cremey 2nd June 2016, 09:50 PM

#9 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week! ohmy.gif So glad it's doing well.
'Kiss It Better' has so far only peaked at #62... Neither seem to be doing anything in the UK though of course, ugh.

Posted by: Atonement 3rd June 2016, 01:57 PM

If it wasn't age-restricted on YT I think it would've done even better than that.

She's also #10 this week with 'Work' and #11 with 'This Is What You Came For' laugh.gif

'Stay' is better than half of her discography. ✔️

Posted by: Atonement 20th June 2016, 06:41 PM

Reaches a new US peak of #7 this week biggrin.gif.

Posted by: danG 20th June 2016, 06:45 PM

amazing!!

maybe this could be a decent UK hit once it gets a push on radio (could be soon now that Kiss It Better has been, flopped and gone). although RiRi currently has two songs in the top 5 as part of Calvin Harris and Drake songs so it could easily get overshadowed.

Posted by: Atonement 20th June 2016, 06:55 PM

Unfortunately I think 'Needed Me' is too urban to be a hit outside of the US.

But 'Kiss It Better' flopping everywhere is such an injustice sad.gif

Posted by: Andr00w 8th July 2016, 04:37 PM

This has became Ri's 45th top 40 hit in the UK!

Posted by: Jonjo 8th July 2016, 05:32 PM

Crazy to think 'Kiss It Better' is the more commercial sounding, radio friendly hit, yet it's 'Needed Me' that breaks into the top 40! I think the video might've stuffed KIB chances tbh sad.gif

Posted by: Atonement 9th July 2016, 01:16 PM

I love the KIB video so much. The main reason why it flopped in the UK was Spotify I guess... apparently peaking at #51 at 3 different occasions. Very frustrating. Should've at least peaked inside the top 40 too.

I do enjoy the 'Needed Me' slayage in the US though. 8 weeks top 10 now, still #7 as a peak but it's still doing really good on iTunes and Spotify. And all of this with a blocked video!

Posted by: *Tim 9th July 2016, 01:55 PM

And it is now picking up on Pop radio as well as #1 on Urban!

Posted by: Andr00w 9th July 2016, 09:31 PM

Tbh they need to send this to radio in the UK, the fact it's gone top 40 here with no push is very promising so I'm sure it could go Top 20 at least!

Posted by: mr_pmt 12th July 2016, 10:38 PM

This really is utter cack compared to 'Kiss It Better'. sad.gif Such a shame.

Posted by: Atonement 27th July 2016, 07:48 PM

'Needed God' is still going strong in the US. Top 10 for 11 weeks now and it's still at its #7 peak (for the 5th non-consecutive week).

Posted by: Andr00w 8th September 2016, 12:21 AM

Needed Me has now spent fifteen weeks in the US Billboard Top 10 and is tied with a Kelly Clarkson song for the most weeks in the top 10 without peaking in the top 5 in Billboard history ohmy.gif

I wonder why this wasn't given a push in the UK, it peaked at #38 here in July and is still in the Spotify top 50, which indicates it could go at least top 20 with Radio 1 play listing etc.

Posted by: jakewild 9th September 2016, 08:46 PM

Despite the low peak of #42 on the Dutch top 100 it's already in the chart for 20 weeks and still very stable coffee.gif

Rightfully so! biggrin.gif

I do stan for Anti, one of the best albums of the year still and I don't like hate the song. It's more I just don't get why it was such a big hit when Kiss It Better flopped and I find Love on the Brain/Sex superior too, and can't see them doing as well. (not sure which is a single anymore wacko.gif ).

Posted by: *Tim 13th September 2016, 02:56 PM

Lmao dont worry I dont get it either, shoulda been Desperado
(Altho I do like this song)

Some of the production on this is fairly impressive, but the song is just dog shit.

QUOTE(Music Week)
Although it has never climbed higher than No.38, Needed Me completes six months (26 weeks) in the Top 75 for Rihanna by falling to its lowest position yet. Dipping 55-73 (8,042 sales), it has managed to accumulate sales of 376,238 copies, making it Rihanna's 27th biggest seller. It has outsold every Rihanna track that didn't make the Top 15 and - admittedly thanks largely to streaming, which account for all but 41,126 of its sales - has even outsold her No.2 singles SOS (359,673 sales) and Pon De Replay (342,633 sales).

seems really odd that Needed Me has more chart sales than SOS and Pon De Replay, it didn't feel half as big.
