BuzzJack Music Forum _ Sugababes _ A08S02 - "Hard"

Posted by: Backdown 28th August 2011, 10:03 PM

Just had the go ahead from Amelle that I'm allowed to talk about the track.
Jade told me on Friday it's called "Hard" and is produced by the invisible men. She described it as "Better than Freedom" and a "Floorfiller".

Posted by: Silas 28th August 2011, 10:06 PM

Hmmm. Interesting title.

If they mean floorfiller in a Sweet 7 kinda way I'll wait until it hits 59p on iTunes.

Posted by: Martyn 28th August 2011, 10:13 PM

I laughed when I saw the title, I am that mature (22 years old Martyn, time to grow up!)

However I hope the chorus goes something like this

QUOTE
I'll make it hard...
I'll make it hard for you!
I'll make it hard for you
so be on your guard!

Not really but I am basing this on the hilarity of Sweet 7

Posted by: RC741 28th August 2011, 10:36 PM

Interesting! If it's better than Freedom, it'll be one of the best songs of the year!

Posted by: Aidan 28th August 2011, 10:38 PM

Not a very exciting title, but if they believe it's better than 'Freedom' then it must be good!

Posted by: Liаm 28th August 2011, 10:51 PM

'Better than Freedom'

Well that's not too difficult....

Joke, I do like Freedom before the random loons attack me and then berate the mods for biased... But yeah, excited to hear, it better be an ACTUAL club banger a la All Fired Up and not something like Collide.

Posted by: CHЯIS 28th August 2011, 11:06 PM

If this is set to be BETTER than 'Freedom' then it should be FANTASTIC.

Posted by: Atonement 28th August 2011, 11:24 PM

For some reason I hoped for a song title with more than one word. But Hard is an interesting title, if it's as good as Rihanna's song then it's going to be fantastic.
Unfortunately I can't see the lyrics of this song being any better than Freedom's. It's probably going to be along the lines of 'we're so hard/we're going so hard [in the club]'.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Posted by: rub 28th August 2011, 11:38 PM

Thanks 4 sharing... But late 2011 is literally impossible... There's just 13 weeks between Freedom's release and the last week of the year... I don't expect Freedom to stay more than that on chart, tbh... But, in orden to release Hard in late 2011, they'll have to make a video, send it to radios, etc, in Freedom's 3r or 4th chart week... And that would be a suicide.

It will obviously be released in 2012.

Posted by: Silver Rocket 29th August 2011, 04:35 AM

Bets on it being a Rihanna cover?

Posted by: Ljósið 29th August 2011, 09:58 AM

They're not THAT desperate, are they?

Damn, this chorus makes me sound like a re****
Hard yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah"

This is what is co-written on Daily Star by the Sugababes

WE’RE SOFT ON HARD…

27th September 2011
By Kim Dawson with James Cabooter - Edited by The Sugababes

IF we get our way, the second single from the new album will be Hard.

You might think it’s a singalong but when you start listening to the lyrics you think: “Hang on a minute, it’s a cool concept.”
It’s called Hard because its about a girl who’s been hurt in a relationship, then got into a new one and will only give so much.
It’s saying: “If you’re not able to give me 100% I’ll go back to being hard, being the ice queen, keeping you at arm’s length.”
Most girls have had that.
WE love Katy B. She kind of sounds like early Sugababes and there’s a good style about her.
Loick Essien, who’s on Sony with us, is also wicked.

I actually quite like the concept, as it correlates a lot with my former drama in my personal life. laugh.gif I'm now curious about the lyrics and the song itself.

Posted by: Silas 27th September 2011, 10:32 PM

Ooooooooh this has promise.

Posted by: Cremey 27th September 2011, 10:32 PM

But will this still be the second single...or has it been sort of promoted to lead single now do we think?

Same here; maybe not so much 'drama' than 'what I actually think/feel'.

The idea of the song is good. Hopefully the actual song will deliver!

Posted by: Liаm 27th September 2011, 10:39 PM

Fingers crossed they don't f*** it up like Freedom! I mean the free download release was pointless! Hard sounds VERY promising, not just the one dimensional club banger we initally expected!

Posted by: Arrs 27th September 2011, 10:39 PM

I don't think it does matter much, as basically 'Hard' is going to open the album (if they don't delay it yet again). Edit: <<== That was for Cremey!

But they need to get EVERYTHING right and use ALL the resources they have. And even with that, they will still probably flop. It is the death situation for them, they are in agony.

I wish them all of the luck. I don't want the Sugababes chapter I to end with 'Freedom' being downgraded to a free single and with the next single / album flopping or even cancelling.

Posted by: Propilot87 28th September 2011, 01:42 AM

Even if this song is amazing, its still almost certain that radio wont support them...how exactly can they get radio support back? because without that they're pretty much screwed. Since i doubt X Factor will be calling on them anytime soon.

Posted by: Atonement 28th September 2011, 02:30 PM

Oh it certainly sounds better than the 'We're going hard in the club' song I was thinking it was going to be!

Posted by: Atonement 29th September 2011, 04:44 PM

I feel we're going to have to wait forever for this to debut.

Posted by: Arrs 29th September 2011, 06:54 PM

... and then to be released.

Posted by: Silas 29th September 2011, 08:27 PM

For it to then be put as a free single as Amazon....

Posted by: Atonement 3rd October 2011, 05:22 PM

I didn't know where else to put this but I think something like Jessica Sutta's Show Me would suit them. Very fun but strong song, and along the lines of their current sound.

Posted by: Electro Paradise 10th November 2011, 07:42 PM

Does anyone know whats going on with them? I'd forgotten they existed until Freedom randomly came on my itunes...

Posted by: Arrs 10th November 2011, 08:47 PM

Heidi is going to Dancing on Ice, Amelle has some collabs going on to be recorded, and for now that's pretty much it.

Posted by: Silver Rocket 10th November 2011, 08:51 PM

I sort of knew after the whole 'Freedom' fiasco that would be it, we'll never hear from them again now.

Posted by: Arrs 10th November 2011, 09:01 PM

The rumours are the original line-up is recording something, but those tracks could go to the same shelf as Keisha's album and Sugababes' 8th album.

Posted by: Atonement 10th November 2011, 09:29 PM

Screw this second single all I care about right now are the original line-up rumors cheer.gif
Keisha's been giving nasty hints on twitter, I hope she's not f***ing with us.

Posted by: Arrs 11th November 2011, 01:29 PM

I'd rather have Siobhan solo than in the group though. 'Revolution in Me' is almost on par with 'One Touch', and 'Ghosts' stands far above both of them. That said, I'd rather have Siobhan ANYWHERE than nowhere.

The ideal situation for me is Siobhan, Amelle and Jade working solo, Sugababes 2.0 for 3-5 years doing their own business too, and then reform when people won't be SO tired of Sugababes.

Posted by: Marina Hurts 11th November 2011, 05:06 PM

I don't really care for the Sugababes anymore, but I'd appreciate a new solo album by either Siobhan, Mutya or Keisha!

Posted by: Tombo 10th April 2013, 03:23 PM

This never materialised then, with 4.0 writings and recording new stuff this year then maybe their next single will be something different. I hope this at least gets to be a bonus track on the album though tongue.gif

Posted by: Simon. 10th April 2013, 06:25 PM

Be nice for it to leak though sad.gif

I still wonder if The Invisible Men just ended up giving the backing track to another artist like Too In Love ended up with Jams Potato.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 8th February 2018, 03:45 PM

Interesting to hear if it would have done better than Freedom and been a bit less trend chasing

Posted by: rowork 9th February 2018, 07:49 PM

Supposedly it was a 'floorfiller' and Jade said it was better than Freedom. Hard to tell without actually hearing it ourselves though!

I don’t trust jades opinions after she murdered Freak Like Me.

Plus I remember the Freedumb video being described as a return to Freak Like Me or something like that. I guess because they were in a club.

I don't think it would have made any noticeable difference. Since the moment they became 3 completely different women to the original line-up there was no way they were gonna survive that, and after Sweet 7's megabomb they stood no chance regardless of the songs that followed.

But I am really intrigued to hear this, if it surfaces!

Exactly - radio and public support basically dwindled. People forget that Wear My Kiss reached the top five on airplay, but could only stay in the top 75 for six weeks; how would a single with no airplay behind it fare for them? They weren't afraid that Freedom was going to miss the top ten or top twenty - they were afraid to miss the top 75. That's how bad things had gotten for them.

They didn't shelf future releases without any reason.

This puts their disastrous situation into perspective. Radio really did get behind Wear My Kiss - even more so than About A Girl, which only went Top 15. But that still wasn't enough to secure a 'proper' hit. However, I still think they gave up on Sweet 7 prematurely. Another Top 10/20 with a 4th single was more likely than abandoning the campaign, and starting fresh. It was too late by that point.

I don't think a next single from Sweet 7 would've gone top 20 or even top 40. Sweet 7 flopping badly meant bad press and Radio One possibly not supporting the next single (which they didn't anyway), plus they wouldn't have the advantage of first-week sales, but they would be spread out randomly over the weeks.

Flatline managed to get to 50 with no radio support, but one big performance plus some critic and fan support. Had they concentrated that release better (ie sales not spread out over two seperate weeks) they might've, at a push gone to the lower top 30. 4.0 didn't have radio support for Freedom or any real fan support or support from critics. Their performances were so spread out over the weeks so it's hard to know if any of those would've had any significant impact.

Yep, I completely forgot the advantage that AAG/WMK had as 'lead' singles.

The Flatline release makes me so angry! Such a poorly managed release.

Considering she hasn't uploaded it or her own tracks makes me think she blubbed up by blabbing about potentially leaking them on Twitter. There's a decent chance that producers and her former management got in contact with her.
