'E.T.' is looking set to re-enter the top 40 this week, after Little Mix's performance of it on The X Factor this week! biggrin.gif Hopefully it'll move it even closer to the 400k mark - which'll make it four in a row (soon five) for the Teenage Dream album! biggrin.gif It's unlikely that 'The One That Got Away' will continue this though, but it's a fantastic achievement nontheless cheer.gif

EDIT: 'E.T.' re-entered at #40 this week, and has sold 398,663 in total, meaning it'll go Gold this week! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Cowboystyle 30th December 2011, 10:04 PM

E.T. has 3 more weeks inside the top 100 now, it's new chart run is...

89-29-12-5-3-7-6-7-12-19-23-32-40-42-48-58-72-83-90-100-40-72-96

Posted by: THEO. 30th December 2011, 10:09 PM

And those weeks are tracked in the opening post.

Posted by: liamk97 19th January 2012, 10:04 PM

Teenage Dream (album) has spent the same amount of weeks in the Top 100 as One of the Boys! (72 weeks)

Posted by: THEO. 30th July 2012, 11:15 PM

After 100 weeks, Teenage Dream is still at #25 in the UK and has never dropped below #64 on the official ALBUMS chart biggrin.gif

Posted by: liamk97 30th July 2012, 11:19 PM

You mean album chart? tongue.gif But fantastic achievement, especially considering the curse of the second era most soloists experience - but not for Katy!

Posted by: Atonement 2nd January 2013, 10:37 PM

Bit ''sad'' but not surprised that my favorite Katy Perry single is the least succesful. 'Thinking of You' is all kinds of beautiful. Currently obsessed with it again. Favorite bit is the
line 'Won't you walk through and bust in the door and take me away' wub.gif Surprised she was able to pull of such an emotional song.

Posted by: THEO. 3rd January 2013, 12:56 PM

With "Wide Awake" passing 300k according to Vidcapper's recent estimates, all EIGHT singles from the Teenage Dream era have now passed that mark (with the first four over 400k)! An amazing achievement, and hopefully the success continues into album three biggrin.gif

That's my favourite single of hers, too! It's always refreshing to her hear singing a ballad after her most successful singles have been bubblegum-pop. The video is up there with "The One That Got Away"'s, for me, as well.

It's great to see 'Wide Awake' selling nearly as much as 'Part Of Me' despite only charting at #9. Love 'Wide Awake' wub.gif

From the OCC Website:

To mark five years since I Kissed A Girl hit Number 1, we count down Katy’s biggest sellers on the Official Singles Chart.

She kissed a girl and she liked it, and we loved her! It’s hard to believe its five years since Katy Perry’s breakthrough hit I Kissed A Girl smashed its way to the top of the Official Singles Chart. The controversial lusty love letter to lip balm managed to stay at Number 1 for five weeks, setting the tone for a stellar career that would see Katy Perry a regular fixture on the charts – and in the tabloids.

But which KP classic is the biggest of them all? Katy has appeared on 14 Official Singles Chart Top 40 hits, and she’s reached the summit three times. Her chart-toppers are the afore-mentioned I Kissed A Girl, 2010’s California Gurls and Part Of Me from 2012. Did any of those manage to be her top-seller?

Well the answer to that is, um, no. Katy’s biggest selling single didn’t make it to Number 1 at all, despite being a karaoke staple and the empowering anthem for anyone who’s felt rather less than sparkling. Katy Perry’s top selling single in the UK is the mighty Firework, which may have only fizzed its way to Number 3 in October 2010, but has shined brighter than all Katy’s other hits in the long run.

The sparky track has sold almost 955,000 copies in the UK since its release three years ago, and is way ahead of the hit that comes in second – California Gurls, the lead single for the Teenage Dream album, itself a Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.

That unforgettable debut I Kissed A Girl has to settle for fourth place with 676,000 copies, just behind its follow-up single Hot N Cold. Only 400 copies separate them – can I Kissed A Girl smooch its way past to make it into the Top 3?

Katy’s collaboration with Colorado electropoppers 3OH!3 also did pretty well for Katy. Starstrukk is her most successful track as a featured artist, shifting 580,000 units and coming in at 5 on her list of big sellers. Another featured track makes the Top 10, with the Timbaland collaboration If We Meet Again selling 412,000 to make it to 9.

Big Katy tracks that just miss her Top 10 sellers include Wide Awake at 11 – it reached Number 9 in April 2012 and has sold 325,000 copies. Just behind it is the boohoo-worthy The One That Got Away, which is almost at the 325K mark.

Firework’s sales tally just goes to show that it’s not always the Number 1s that are the biggest songs. All eyes are now on the track to see whether it will pass the 1 million mark. Will Firework be Katy Perry’s ticket into the Million Sellers’ Club? And when? Keep your eyes on the prize – right here, in other words – for all the latest updates.

Meanwhile, Katy’s ready to add some more hits to her list – her brand new single Roar is out 8 September. Can it be her fourth chart-topper?

With the regular and Complete Confection versions of Teenage Dream spinning-off eight hits - seven of them Top 10 - that album has sold 1,171,340 copies to date, while One Of The Boys has sold 674,588 copies. Teenage Dreams bolts 125-36 (2,836 sales) this week.

Roar - the only single yet lifted from Prism - became Perry's fourth UK number one single seven weeks ago, and has since become her eighth single to sell upwards of 500,000 copies in the UK (seven as a primary artist, plus 3OH!3 collab. Starstrukk). Rallying 6-4 this week, Roar sold a further 50,464 copies to raise its career tally to 595,941. Do we think Waking Up in Vegas will go silver at some point? I mean, it was on 180k years ago, wasn't it or is that a newish figure?

According to a countdown of Katy's Top 20 singles on MTV from 6th January, it's sold 190k to date (rounded to nearest 5k).

The full list:

1 . Katy Perry = Firework :: 1,020k
2 . Katy Perry = Roar :: 1,000k
3 . Katy Perry ft Snoop Dogg = California Gurls :: 795k
4 . Katy Perry = Hot'n'Cold :: 695k
5 . Katy Perry = I Kissed A Girl :: 690k
6 . Katy Perry [3Oh!3 ft] = Starstrukk :: 590k
7 . Katy Perry = Teenage Dream :: 550k
8 . Katy Perry = Dark Horse :: 520k
9 . Katy Perry ft Kanye West = ET :: 450k
10 . Katy Perry = Last Friday Night :: 450k
11 . Katy Perry [Timbaland ft] = If We Ever Meet Again :: 425k
12 . Katy Perry = Part Of Me :: 370k
13 . Katy Perry = Wide Awake :: 350k
14 . Katy Perry = The One That Got Away :: 345k
15 . Katy Perry = Waking Up In Vegas :: 190k
16 . Katy Perry = Unconditionally :: 125k
17 . Katy Perry = Thinking Of You :: 125k
18 . Katy Perry = Birthday :: 110k
19 . Katy Perry = This Is How We Do :: 60k
20 . Katy Perry [John Mayer ft] = Who You Love :: 10k

All sales-only totals. 'Roar' hasn't passed 1m yet I don't think so its sales are between 995k-1m.

Go Katy!

So, out of all her singles, the only ones with no certification in the UK are Thinking of You, Unconditionally, Birthday and This is How We Do.

This is How We Do must be closest to going on the sales I can find in my End of week 200s archives. No idea what Thinking of You would have sold at this point though and Unconditionally might have picked up some good trickle sales from recent X Factor boosts (unfortunately we didn't get End of week 200s the week that it re-entered)

It will eventually anyway, but probably not gold unless she does some promo in the Uk (still find it odd that she's done nothing here since February).

Swish will go Gold at least for sure, I think.

Kind of surprised at how bad some of her singles performed, well not bad but Firework definitely feels (and felt at the time) like a #1 and Last Friday Night feels bigger than a #9 peaking single too. Teenage Dream and The One That Got Away also from that era. But then conversely, Part Of Me going #1 is a surprise as it doesn’t feel as big as many other singles in her discography laugh.gif

Those Witness sales are atrocious too which is a shame sad.gif Its not a great album but I think it deserves more recognition than it was given (even though the album campaign was terrible) tongue.gif

Prism isn't at 600k.
It's under 500k right?

Posted by: Jordan Lee 4th October 2018, 12:44 AM

Where is Witness at now in terms of sales? I had no idea her sales dropped that much it’s similar to how Xtina dropped from Back to Basics to Bionic.

I wouldn't say 'Firework' did "bad", as it is a million seller and arguably her biggest single.

Teenage Dream (album) is on 1,376,000 sales in the UK.

20th biggest album of decade so far.

The One That Got Away is Platinum! ohmy.gif wub.gif One of my all time favourite songs and an underrated gem from the Teenage Dream era! All six singles from the original album are now (at least) Platinum certified, get that coin Katy

1,385,200 - Teenage Dream [Album]

The OCC have published a list of Max Martin's best selling singles which confirms 'Dark Horse' has sold over 1.1m and 'California Gurls' has sold over 1m.

Next will be 'I Kissed a Girl' which has sales of 909k as of January 2019.

“One Of The Boys” — 712,926
“Teenage Dream” — 1,395,691
“PRISM” — 468,738
“Witness” — 74,393

Poor Witness. I feel like the GP didn't even know she had an album out.

A 100% decrease from Prism to Witness, yikes.

As of 5th July:

1,750,000 - Roar
1,125,000 - Dark Horse
1,030,000 - California Gurls
950,000 - I Kissed a Girl
910,000 - Hot n Cold
785,000 - Teenage Dream
735,000 - Chained to the Rhythm
515,000 - Part of Me

*.* Such strong sales! Roar is only 50,000 away from 3xPlatinum.

'I Kissed a Girl' should become Katy's 6th million seller by January!

Posted by: Theonix 11th July 2019, 09:14 AM

Oh I didn't even know that Dark Horse was a million seller, let alone that it had sold more than California Gurls! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 28th July 2019, 12:47 AM

Her debut albums sold really well! It’s peak made me feel like it had sold more modestly tbh I imagined the sales for her debut and prism would’ve been the other way around.

But over 700K is pretty good going. Probably amongst the biggest non top ten albums of the 2000’s decade?

Posted by: Medellíam 30th July 2019, 01:50 PM

From the OCC:

QUOTE
Dark Horse peaked at Number 4 on the UK's Official Singles Chart, has been downloaded 602,000 times, and has amassed 153.6 million streams.

Posted by: 365 7th August 2019, 11:18 AM

Here's some info on a handful of Katy's lower peakers:

Bon Appetit = 267k
Swish Swish= 535k
This is How We Do= 259k

Hopefully I get some more soon.

(Thanks for these Aj)

Posted by: Medellíam 7th August 2019, 11:23 AM

'Swish Swish' was actually pretty big then.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 7th August 2019, 02:52 PM

Swish Swish went top 40 for one week then stayed in the chart like for 3 month then returned to the chart.

Was the return due to the video. Like did it initially chart off Nickis feature or was it a grat? Or was the return due to radio play etc.

It stuck around for a while. It feels bigger than it’s peak suggests actually. I probably remember that more than some top 5 / 10 hits from that time.

Posted by: 365 7th August 2019, 02:54 PM

It debuted before it was pushed. 2/3 months later it was sent to UK radio and eventually re added to Hot Hits UK and put back on SCR by the label. It was a messy release that probably would have been another top 10 moment for her if handled a bit better. It's sold more than #1 Part of Me.

Posted by: Medellíam 7th August 2019, 03:03 PM

'Swish Swish' was played all the time on nights out in my town but they also stanned 'Best Behaviour' and 'Scared of the Dark' too so I wasn't sure if it was just in my bubble that it was popular.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 7th August 2019, 03:18 PM

I definitely hear Swish Swish the most of any witness era track.

Infact around the scene I’d say I hear Chained the least lol despite that being her biggest hit. Bon Appetit I hear a lot too.

Thanks @365 for that and for those sales info on the other tracks too. I agree that it’s peak may have been higher had it been handled more carefully. It mustve been fairly popular to remain top 100 for like 3 month before returning top 40.

I guess it could’ve been the same in the US too as it just missed top 40 there didn’t it.

I’ve always liked Part Of Me but it was sort of like a lucky #1. It being a new track at the time and being on the re release may have helped it. But it being a #1 single by someone like Katy is so crazy. When even Firework didn’t even go to #1 here. I’d sort of say it’s quite forgotten really.

Yes, terrible. 365 only just went to 100 million streams worldwide too. For a Zedd/Katy collab that's not good at all. It took NRO only one month to hit this milestone.

Probably another Platinum hit for her in about a year. (On the old ratio, which all her other hits are on, it would already be over Plat)

Her "Spotify Custard coloured" vinyl variant was finally release on Friday, following a couple of delays. It's helping the album slightly, it's midweek #150 today, so it should manage another week.
