The last minute *.*

Posted by: Jay ☆ 27th September 2018, 05:41 PM

I'm intending to hold off listening to this until I've seen the film, because it's said to be used in a really significant moment! So I think I'd rather experience my first listen of it in that context.

Posted by: Mariners Botch 27th September 2018, 05:46 PM

omg im crying enough just LISTENING to it

Posted by: SKOB 27th September 2018, 06:11 PM

LOVE THIS TOO MUCH EVEN WITHOUT SEEING THE FILM

THE LAST MINUTE!!

I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now

Posted by: SKOB 27th September 2018, 07:21 PM

the video isn't that special (lousy cutting etc) tbh but it must be amazing in the movie!

Posted by: Liаm 27th September 2018, 11:08 PM

If you just listen to the song it gives nothing away, video might a bit, it is a big moment in the film but I spammed it on my way to the cinema and was still blown away so depends if you can wait kink.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 27th September 2018, 11:27 PM

Yeah. I regret watching the video before seeing the film as I could tell it gives quite a bit away. But the song will blow you away regardless of how many times you hear it tbh.

Posted by: Liаm 27th September 2018, 11:46 PM

Oh wait definitely don't watch the video, I didn't before I went and now I have there are little clips that do give bits away, the song is fine though laugh.gif It might also just be that because I've seen I know what happens, but like you're not missing a huge high budget Gaga vid it's just film clips so if you just wanted to hear the song don't worry.

Posted by: SKOB 28th September 2018, 03:31 AM

This song is amazing, didn't watch the video though just listened to the audio, its absolutely fantastic and really can't wait to see the movie. Even Bradley Cooper sounds really good also, but Gaga steals the show of course.

Posted by: Spiceboy 28th September 2018, 05:30 PM

I'm waiting for the film to hear it, really looking forwards to it.

What a BEAUTIFUL MOMENT OF LIFE this song is.

Also 2.53m on Spotify in two days (WW of course)

That's very good for a song like this.

WW: #53
UK: #37
US: #58

AMAZING!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 29th September 2018, 06:00 PM

Anyone think this could mirror 'This Is Me's chart performance?

Posted by: Mariner's Crotch 29th September 2018, 06:00 PM

No.

Posted by: SKOB 29th September 2018, 06:03 PM

Depends on the market, definitely in the US where This Is Me reached only #58

Posted by: Scene 1st October 2018, 05:57 PM

I can honestly see this being big once the movie opens in cinemas. It's so powerful and catchy! Will be shocked if this doesn't go top 10. My fave GaGa single since Marry The Night.

Posted by: SKOB 1st October 2018, 05:59 PM

I'm happy if it goes top 20 because casual streaming isn't her strongest area. Might be top 30 this week already though, thanks to her fanbase.

Posted by: pippa 1st October 2018, 06:48 PM

Number 10 in today's midweeks so Top 30 looks safe.

Posted by: HausofTove 1st October 2018, 06:52 PM

Brilliant news!

It all depends on the success of the movie really. The soundtrack could have life in it but it's too hard to predict atm. Either way, the critical praise is overwhelming right now so commercial success or not, she still did THAT against the odds.

Posted by: SKOB 1st October 2018, 07:04 PM

I also think that there might be another song that outperforms Shallow eventually.

Posted by: Theo. 2nd October 2018, 09:43 AM

This has debuted at #14 on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart after only 12 hours on sale! It's nowhere on the Hot 100 but it's still #1 on US iTunes so I would expect a debut higher than Avril (#64 on the Hot 100 this week after rising 23-2 on DSS) next week.

I've still not listened to the song though as I'm waiting to see the movie either tomorrow or Thursday but I'm so excited!

Posted by: SKOB 2nd October 2018, 10:50 AM

I think top 40-50 debut, which would mean it'd outpeak This Is Me right away. Looking good for the soundtrack.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 2nd October 2018, 03:14 PM

It’s doing good so far and this week is purely fanbase buys and streams too as the movie effect won’t begin until after Wednesday.
Hopefully it’s a long running hit regardless of peak. Top 10 would be amazing but I’d be happier with The Soundtrack album going to #1 over a hit single.

Posted by: HausofTove 3rd October 2018, 06:20 AM

Still stable at #1 on iTunes in the US! Top 10 in the UK still and past two days it has climbed on Spotify. Can't wait to see how the release of the film impacts it..

Up to #7 again on UK iTunes, get that longevity BradGa!

Posted by: SKOB 3rd October 2018, 06:16 PM

Posted by: Jordan Lee 4th October 2018, 01:49 PM

Climbed on Spotify and Apple Music today as well as well as iTunes where it’s nearly back at #3.
Looking likely to be her biggest song since the streaming era happened heart.gif

Posted by: Scene 4th October 2018, 04:00 PM

I can't get over how good this is! IWNLA also sounds amazing from the reactions. GaGa is definitely looking likely to bag her biggest hit since The Edge Of Glory 7 years ago!

I've had this on repeat/in my head since seeing the movie on Wednesday. Absolutely stunning and by far my favourite track on the soundtrack. I love how it's essentially the theme for the movie, popping up in different versions throughout. So pleased that she's set for her first top 10 in almost 5 years! wub.gif

Posted by: Theo. 7th October 2018, 09:16 AM

Gaga's YouTube channel has uploaded a version of "Shallow" with less crowd noise:

I'm used to the album/film version now but I'm sure this will please the people complaining about it.

Posted by: The Feline Lorde 7th October 2018, 11:10 AM

There's a whole "Without Dialogue" version of the soundtrack uploaded on Apple Music and Spotify (and presumably other places too).

Posted by: Jordan Lee 7th October 2018, 11:36 AM

Still #1 on iTunes
And also #13 on Apple Music and #23 on Spotify (in UK) both of which I believe are new peaks.
So happy she’s getting another hit what seems to be appealing to the GP again too.
It feels like 2011 again seeing her slaying iTunes and hearing people outside the fandom positively talking about her again.
She’s making that comeback heart.gif

Oh yeah, I didn't realise that laugh.gif I just thought it was a clean version as the dialogue version is marked as explicit but there is no swearing in any of the songs!

This is #5 in the midweeks! I imagine it's locked on for the top 10 so outpeaking "Do What U Want" is the next challenge! I think it can do it this week and maybe even "Applause" next week.

Posted by: HausofTove 8th October 2018, 10:22 PM

Lady Gaga earns her sixth number one on Billboard's Digital Song Sales, as her latest single "Shallow" with Bradley Cooper bows atop the list. The theme song for her latest movie A Star Is Born was released in late September with an accompanying video and hasn't left the top spot of the U.S. iTunes since.

Gaga previously topped the Digital Song Sales chart with "Just Dance" feat. Colby O'Donis (2008), "Poker Face" (2009), "Bad Romance" (2009), "Born This Way" (2011), and "Million Reasons" (2016).

On Billboard's main singles chart, the Hot 100, "Shallow" makes a strong debut at No. 28 with 8.3 million U.S. streams and 58,000 downloads.

Its a bit concerning that you don’t think she’d manage a top 10 single when shes far from peaked as a pop star...

Posted by: SKOB 15th October 2018, 09:45 AM

There hasn't been much of country/folk/rock ballads in top ten lately, has there?

Posted by: Liаm 15th October 2018, 10:00 AM

Exactly, it's not so much *her* getting a top 10 (if she came back with a huge pop track it could easily do it, I mean look at The Cure) but the fact that she's got a top 10 with a song like this! I mean god knows good pop struggles sometimes so for her to a country/rock ballad in the top 10 is insane.

Posted by: SKOB 15th October 2018, 11:57 AM

#6 on Spotify globally, this is UNREAL! I mean people listen to THIS song among all the hip hop they consume.

Posted by: John-James 15th October 2018, 12:01 PM

Do you think this could really become a #1 contender in the coming weeks as airplay picks up? I think if she performed on X-Factor or something it would be a done deal

Posted by: Liаm 15th October 2018, 12:23 PM

I'm trying not to get ahead myself but I'm very optimistic for at least a long running top 3, the fact that it's held off a new Little Mix release and an enduring hit from Calvin Harris and Sam Smith and is already top 10 on Spotify is incredible! If it's anything like the Greatest Showman songs, it'll grow as well as people see the movie so it's only going to be up from here!

Posted by: HannibalLetcher 15th October 2018, 03:19 PM

This is beautiful, I have to admit. Late to the scene to this. It is great to see Lady GaGa back in the UK Top10.

I mean... the song is being pushed as the lead single from what is going to be one of the biggest movies of the year, and one of the soundtracks and next year too and you’re surprised its a hit? Did anyone see The Greatest Showman’s impact this year?

Posted by: SKOB 16th October 2018, 07:02 AM

Just read it’s been submitted for four Grammy Awards.

record and song of the year, best pop/duo, and best track for visual media official nominations announced in December.

I feel like the visual media one could be most likely to actually get her another win although would it be up against any tracks from The Greatest Showman?

Yep TGS is in that as the Grammy deadline was September 30th last year so their December release means they carry over the the 2019 ceremony. But TIM didn't win the Oscar so fingers crossed, as much as I love that song Gaga getting a Grammy as well as Oscar for this film would be the icing on the cake wub.gif

I'm so, so proud of Gaga today. As I've been a fan since day 1 it makes me so happy to see her at the top of the charts.

I have been streaming the song all week and downloaded the song even though I already have the soundtrack on CD.

Each week the song has increased in sales.

Week 1 - 20,425 #13
Week 2 - 36,952 #6
Week 3 - 42,548 #4
Week 4 - 47,610 #1 dance.gif cheer.gif

Amazing result for Gaga. I'm kinda disgusted that BTW and Edge of glory were not #1 hits over here too. BTW would have been had it not been for the stupid release strategy, and if Edge of glory had been the second single release with a decent video instead of that dreadful one we got then I reckon that would have been a strong contender for #1 too.

Didn’t it peak at #5 in the US? Doubt it!

Posted by: CardiiB 18th January 2019, 06:03 PM

The Fame: several of her introduction hits such as Poker Face
The Fame Monster: smashes like Bad Romance, Alejandro, Telephone
Born This Way: the title track, The Edge of Glory, You and I several times
ARTPOP: This is a bit of hmm but yeah, Applause
Joanne: Million Reasons
ASIB soundtrack: Shallow, so far

That was the first thing that came to mind. it’s pretty much peaked on every format except for adult contemporary and hat’s usually where songs go if they want to stick around the hot 100 for a billion years rolleyes.gif Kinda expecting #4-ish (so around the same place as Million Reasons) since I think the massive sales/streaming could offset it a bit.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 27th February 2019, 01:33 AM

It’s already went to #5 I believe in the US so maybe at the least it’s gonna repeak.

Album should maintain good sales too.

It’s now projected to reach #1 on the Hot 100.

Posted by: PaulM1983 27th February 2019, 11:48 AM

Wow, I'd be shocked if it made number 1. It's still considerably behind on streaming, even though it's top 10 and has no radio support. The lead on iTunes is indeed monstrous, but paid for sales are so low I can't see that being the deciding factor.

The spotify update today will be interesting. If they've closed the gap even more, then it really will be game on. Especially because the Youtube streaming numbers are really brilliant.

I really hope they do it. What an amazing victory lap that would be.

Posted by: UltraReputation 27th February 2019, 01:34 PM

Strong competition and it was released late in the chart week:

Meanwhile global superstar Lady Gaga’s new single Born This Way is straight in at number three selling a phenomenal 60,000 copies plus in just 34 hours.

It's a shame because anyone who sees that chart stat will just assume it wasn't as popular as her #1's when at the time it was highly anticipated. It's the same with Adele's Skyfall. People will see it peaked at #2 and scratch their heads. laugh.gif

Peaks are often confusing with the GP as people who don’t follow the charts will just assume that number one means most popular but there’s instances where that’s not always the case.

I’d imagine if Madonna’s number one singles was a quiz topic or something many people would name Holiday and Like A Virgin as being number ones when they weren’t but they did outsell pretty much every one of her number ones bar Into The Groove.

Katy’s UK number ones would probably also confuse the GP as well as most would assume Firework went all the way.

Of Arianas 5 number ones as well I bet most would think One Last Time and No Tears were amongst those.

I think most artists have that huge single or singles that miss number one but are seen as being signature to them and then they have number one singles that pass people by.

Bad Romance is Gagas example of that in the US where as in the UK it’s Born This Way.

Yup, pretty much on lock now. What an amazing achievement.

It also went #1 in Norway this week, new peak in France at #3, Germany at #8, also up to #3 in Italy (#2 previous peak), #2 in Sweden (already spent 8 weeks at #1) etc.

It's looking very likely, yes.

Their strong download numbers (approx 115k) and the fact that they increased hugely across all metrics will almost definitely swing it for them.

Incredible to see this become her fourth #1 in the US! The success Gaga has achieved with this project has been such a joy to witness. Can't wait to see what her next studio album will bring, she's in such a great place right now and I'm excited to see her totally take over again.

Wow! Never sent to radios in the UK. BBC 2 randomly playlisted it, they did the same thing with I'll Never Love Again a month ago.

QUOTE
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "Shallow" makes for an anomaly at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019 for a number of reasons. It's an unusual No. 1 as a pop-rock ballad with country DNA, as a duet between singer-songwriters, as a live-recorded performance, as a song lacking in conventional verse-chorus structure. Hell, it's even somewhat unusual as a Lady Gaga No. 1, since despite remaining one of the pop world's most successful stars, she hadn't previously topped the Hot 100 since "Born This Way" in 2011.

But the most interesting thing about the "Shallow" triumph might be that it marks the return of a kind of chart-topper we don't see so often these days: The pop culture moment No. 1. In other words, a song that doesn't necessarily make sense as a contemprary No. 1 strictly in musical terms, but which can be explained through cultural context and the extra-musical factors that have supported it.

Such No. 1s have popped up all throughout the history of the Hot 100, perhaps experiencing their greatest renaissance in the '80s, when explosive instrumental themes to Chariots of Fire and Miami Vice made it to No. 1, along with long-simmering slow jams that experienced chart bumps thanks to their uses on hit shows like General Hospital (James Ingram and Patti Austin's "Baby Come to Me") and Family Ties (Billy Vera and the Beaters' "At This Moment"). The '90s film soundtrack boom also resulted in a number of unconventional chart-toppers in the next decade, like unsigned alt-rock act Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories' debut single "Stay (I Missed You)" (Reality Bites) and U.K. singer-songwriter Seal's power ballad "Kiss From a Rose" (Batman Forever). Meanwhile, the two longest-running No. 1s of 1997 -- Puff Daddy's "I'll Be Missing You" (featuring Faith Evans and 112) and Elton John's "Candle in the Wind 1997" / "Something About the Way You Look Tonight" -- were both powered by public grieving, over the then-recent deaths of The Notorious B.I.G. and Princess Diana, respectively.

In the '00s, following Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya and P!nk's Moulin Rouge-inspired "Lady Marmalade" reboot, the soundtrack-slingshot hits largely dried up, but a new form of pop culture moment No. 1 was introduced as a Hot 100 perennial: The American Idol single. Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks were all able to top the chart with their post-Idol debut singles, following their rise to stardom on the reality TV competition. But as the show started to wane in cultural impact, Idol alums stopped reaching pole position, and by the '10s, the most relevant form of the pop culture moment No. 1 came via the viral video -- which took advantage of then-new Hot 100 calculations that accounted for streaming services like YouTube, and propelled a song as unusual as Baauer's riotous EDM instrumental "Harlem Shake" to the summit.

But even compared to these other recent examples, "Shallow" is somewhat refreshingly pure, as an example of a song that simply wouldn't even exist without its parent movie. Specifically written for A Star Is Born as a kind of love theme between the main characters of Ally and Jackson Maine (played by Gaga and Cooper, respectively), "Shallow" is absolutely inextricable from Star, and it's unsurprising that its chart success has correllated almost directly with public excitement over the film. It debuted on the Hot 100 at No. 28 on the chart dated Oct. 13, the week after both Star's Friday release and the single's first full week of tracking, then jumped to No. 5 the next week following both the movie's first full week in theaters and the Billboard 200-topping soundtrack's first full week of availability.

Why is it important to have these kinds of pop culture moment No. 1s? Well for one thing, it offers much-appreciated variety at the top of the charts -- after a succession of up-tempo, streaming-friendly hip-hop songs and mid-tempo, radio-friendly pop&B hybrids, it's fun to have an old-fashioned pop-rock power ballad at No. 1 for the first time in ages. It also adds to a chart's feeling of really defining its moment in time: The memories of A Star Is Born at the Oscars will remain such a vivid part of the cultural memory of early 2019 that it feels only right that the No. 1 song in the country should reflect that. And perhaps most importantly, a No. 1 like "Shallow" gets the different core institutions of our popular culture -- movie theaters, radio, TV, social media -- in conversation with one another, enriching all of them in the process and allowing the culture to grow communally.

Time will tell if "Shallow" will endure as a pop standard or a soundtrack novelty -- it's possible the song will still be a karaoke perennial decades from now, or that 2030s audiences will look back on the history of No. 1 hits from the late '10s and go, "Wait, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper...??" But whether it goes down as a fluke or a classic, "Shallow" feels like the perfect single to be on top of the Hot 100: a throwback not just in sound but in cultural context, but one that's still right at home in this modern world.

I was shaking when it was announced #1! I was genuinely so emotional.

When it first came out I thought this is beautiful and I personally adore it and when it entered as high as #13 was it I thought that would have been its peak and it would’ve done a Perfect Illusion but it went from top 15 to top ten and then top 5 and I was like wow ok this really is taking off outside of her fan base and isn’t just a charting off Stan buys and curiosity streams.

I was so so happy though and it’s so well deserved too.

Of all her #1s I actually regard this as the most special in a sense as it’s the opposite of what’s made her popular to date (like it’s not a big pop banger with a thumping beat / big video / dance routine) and one of the most unusual #1s of the streaming era too what hasn’t been a charity release.

She did THAT though.

Posted by: Jαsє 7th July 2019, 11:49 PM

Her entire team were apparently shocked too! From what I've heard they thought 'I'll Never Love Again' was gonna turn out to be the huge one

The sky cinema premiere really helped it out.

Where did it chart?

Posted by: SKOB 20th July 2019, 06:22 AM

#48, up 25 positions

Posted by: Jordan Lee 20th July 2019, 11:15 AM

oops as if I forgot to mention the actual position laugh.gif

This is gonna get an entire year inside the top 100 isn’t it!

Her first song since Telephone to do so.

Or Bad Romance if it manages it consecutively.

Very rare to achieve that kind of signature status for a song ten years into career. I think only Madonna, David Bowie, Tina Turner and exceptions like Cher, Santana, Sia and perhaps Kylie have done that!

Elton John too! Kylie definitely so CGYOOMH is without a doubt her classic signature song!

Posted by: SKOB 13th August 2019, 10:35 AM

Which Elton John do you think about? I think his signature hits are all from the 70s, with exception of Sacrifice. Candle in the Wind is tricky because it was a new version of an old song and was re-popularized under exceptional circumstances.

Edit: CYFTLT fits the signature category though I think.

He's a pop legend for sure and has a career that 99,99999% of artists can only dream of.

Is there a chance it could re enter or was it due to their chart rules it dropped out?

Posted by: SKOB 20th August 2019, 12:41 PM

It dropped below #50 so it was due to the rules. It can't re-enter unless it returns to top 50 which is highly unlikely without significant boost.

Still top 75, at #69. Next week will be its 52th ( ohmy.gif ) week on singles chart and it has missed top 75 only for 1 week to date, #82 in July. It will most likely stay top 100 until Xmas rush kicks in when half of the chart will be cleared anyway.

One year ago today, Gaga and Bradley Cooper released “Shallow” from A Star Is Born. The song has gone on to be one of the biggest of her career, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Official UK Chart, it won two Grammys, an Oscar, and a BAFTA, among countless other awards and has become a staple of pop culture this past year.

What are your thoughts on the song, one year on?

...oh at it becoming a worldwide smash hit phenomenon and becoming one of my most played Gaga songs.

Posted by: SKOB 27th September 2019, 07:16 PM

I love how even her label didn't expect this to be the smash hit from ASIB. From everything I've read they thought it was gonna be I'll Never Love Again!

I wonder if Gaga was shocked with how huge it became

I remember sending it to some of my close friends and they were all really positive about it which threw me a bit because I hadn’t had far sort of reaction from them about Gaga since 2011! It’s just a really unique song too like a song like that becoming huge in the streaming era shows its appeal. A song what isn’t at all streaming friendly becoming a streaming smash! The ASIB era has done wonders for her.
