17th February 2019

It's a new entry and first week on top for a symphonic version of Echo & The Bunnymen's stunningly great 1984 The Killing Moon, as effectively showcased in the cult movie Donnie Darko. I got the Symphonic 80's album as a CD prezzie, and this was the remaining stand-out version I'd not charted - It originally peaked at 2 in my charts, and the revamp isn't quite as good as the original, but the record has severely under-performed in my charts compared to how I feel about it these days ("absolute classic") so an excuse to chart it is welcome by me. By way of compensation there has been a massive clear-out of oldies from my charts and lots of new stuff.

Dua Lipa gets her 2nd number 2, equalling Be The One, and falling short of chart-topper Hotter Than Hell. Zedd's back in the top 20 after his top 20 with Liam Payne in 2017, and Katy Perry is guesting, and back in the top 20 since her swathe of 2017 chart peaks, including a number one with Chained To The Rhythm. The Chainsmokers drag along 5 Seconds Of Summer for another top 40 before the last one has left the 20, while Bob Sinclar gives Robbie Williams his 2nd top 40 guest spot of the year, Robbie's span of hits a surprising 23 years since he gained his Freedom from Take That, or 27 years including the lads.

Jungle are back with another top 40, Sigrid pops back with a 3rd, Khalid gets a 2nd in the chart, CHVRCHES are back with another, Kelsea Ballerini gets a 2nd on the chart, and CNCO and Grace Carter both follow-up recent chart action.

Hi John!

Giving your #1 a listen now (or at least the version I think you're referring to), it's sounding quite nice!

I did indeed get to see Georgia, she has some great tracks that I'd never heard before and she's great live! Speaking of Jungle, I see Beat 54 enter - it's one of the best from the album, but the song that stuck out to me that I wasn't that familiar with was Casio - and it turns out that's their newest single ohmy.gif What a coincidence.

Great to see Sigrid enter as well, much preferring this one to Sucker Punch, and Talk sounds nice from the few times I've heard it as well!

Great chart biggrin.gif

Thanks as always AH for the looooong list biggrin.gif

I prefer the original version of Killing Moon but it's good enough to give me a chance of letting it top my charts instead of peaking at 2 - it'll be in my million sellers list now, which is my main reason laugh.gif

PSB have always done social & political commentary in song, but yes it tends to be older acts still doing that these days - Specials, Ice Cube have done fab tracks lately, and Katy Perry had a go with Chained To The Rhythm, but the youngsters don't seem to want to alienate their fanbase by having an opinion on anything that might be divisive....

White Lies is a familiar scenario to me laugh.gif Pretty sure I had a winner and didn't send it, but then again Jordan had a goodie and passed on it so I had to send that one, so swings & roundabouts. As long as I don't have to host and show how rubbish I am at it laugh.gif

Hi Pete!

Yes I got the name wrong last week (it's Symphonic version) oops! Glad you like it though smile.gif

Glad Georgia & Jungle are fab in concert cheer.gif Both in my top 10 this week. Playing Casio now it's good indeed, so I;d better add it to my itunes basket pronto! Thanks for the tip! smile.gif

It might be my fave Sigrid track yet, and ditto for Khalid, he's very consistently good, I see him breaking through to the big time soon I hope.

cheers!
