BBC America and BBC Worldwide have commissioned a brand new animation based on the program’s original audio recordings, surviving photographs and film clips that will be released 50 years after its only UK broadcast on BBC One.
Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks premieres Saturday, November 19 on BBC AMERICA and will be available the following day to stream right here on BBCAmerica.com and the BBC AMERICA app.
The six-part adventure features the regeneration, or as it was then called “renewal,” of first Doctor, William Hartnell into second Doctor, Patrick Troughton, as the Time Lord and his companions Polly (Anneke Wills) and Ben (Michael Craze) do battle with the Daleks on the planet Vulcan.
Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks is produced and directed by Charles Norton, with character designs from acclaimed comic book artists Martin Geraghty and Adrian Salmon.
Norton says, “The Power of the Daleks animation is the most ambitious Doctor Who archive restoration ever attempted and we’re all very honored to be a part of such an exciting project. Intelligent, suspenseful and magnificently staged, The Power of the Daleks is one of the great lost classics of 1960s television and a superb example of the black and white era at its finest.”
I'm quite intrigued by this and will definitely try and find some way of watching it. It's an episode I've always been wanting to see but never had the opportunity to do so until now. I know it's not the original, but sadly that won't ever happen so an animation is probably a good way to bring the story back to life.

I will be buying it - quite literally 50 years since I last saw it! 
God that makes me feel old....! 
I loved William Hartnell, but I ended up loving Patrick Troughton even more. I also went to the cinema to watch the Peter Cushing Dalek films around and about that period, either in Chesham or Liverpool Waterloo - a cinema that still exists as an actual cinema. That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy...

'Shada' was set to be broadcast as the last episode of Series 17 of Doctor Who in 1979, but due to industrial strike action at the BBC the episode was never finished. Clips of the episode were used in 1983's 'The Five Doctors' when Tom Baker did not take part in the anniversary special and in 1992 a VHS copy was released with the footage filmed and Baker narrating the rest.
But now, following last year's The Power of the Daleks, the missing parts of Shada that were never filmed have now been created through animation by the same team. The original cast returned to voice over the animation, including Baker and Lalla Ward (Romana), combining it with the original footage. In addition, a final scene sees Tom portraying the Doctor once more in a reconstructed TARDIS set which was specially shot for this release.
'Shada' was originally filmed and set in Cambridge and focuses on a planet that the Time Lords used to construct a high-security prison.

Douglas Adams script plus Tom baker means no more reason to buy is needed!
