I would have been very surprised if you had said different as Confide in Me is of a much higher standard than most of the songs from both those eras.

I'd say it was more timeless than ahead of its time and, as others have picked up on, it came at the right time in Kylie's career, so it's hard to say whether it would have performed better or should have been released later. I associate 'Confide in Me' with 'Frozen' too but I don't know if that would have had any bearing on its success for the reason Aly said. Kylie would need something of the same standard to fill the gap if 'Confide in Me' was to make the same or better impression at a later date.
Regarding my personal opinion of the song, I really wasn't keen on it at first. Thankfully my pop tastes have developed since being a kid and I began to like it more and more. Now, I consider it one of Kylie's best and it's the first song I refer people to whenever they dismiss Kylie. |
