I'm not making a poll purely because I can't pinpoint any contenders, but who/what do you think will knock Ed off the top - and when?

I'd like to know your opinions on who it'll be, because I can't think of anyone.

At the moment Ed Sheeran with the next single from his album is probably the most likely...!

I think he'll knock himself off #1 with the third single.

After that, idk. New music from Taylor Swift is due this year, so maybe her lead single, even without Spotify.

Its pretty hard to predict, I reckon it be Ed Sheeran himself again, or something from the BRITs Awards night might blow up

Probably something we're not really aware of at the moment, a bit like 7 Years, that will just blow up!

the Calvin ft Frank Ocean song? If Calvin put a sniper on instagram it has to be imminent?

did someone mention Katy Perry was about to return sooner than later? think either katy or Taylor could do a big surprising comeback any day

I wouldn't mind any of the above
but probably it will be Ed being all greedy and releasing a 3rd pre-album single that will go easily to #1

He'll probably knock himself off with Castle on the Hill (if he performs it at The Brits) or the 3rd single.

Possibly Katy Perry, although she's been away for ages so it's hard to predict her. She's rumoured for The Brits, so she could have something out this month.

I don't think Katy Perry's big enough for a #1 debut. I know 'Rise' was only a promo single but #25 for that really is an indicator, though I imagine her actual comeback will do much better than that.

A few years ago I would of said Take That, who apparently have a new single out next week, but I think they'll just go Top 40 in their first week simular to Robbie. There was an article on Digital Spy last week that said Daft Punk are releasing a new single soon, depending on what it sounds like and who it features (if anyone) that could be in with a shout?

Failing that Ed willl knock himself off Number 1. Even if he doesn't release another single before the album, the fans will probably find a track on the album to stream to death.

Rise was universally slated by fans and critics alike though (apart from some people on Buzzjack), it also didn't get put on Spotify for a while (not that it did very well when it was added, but would have done better with an immediate add). I don't know if she'll go to #1 but I can see her easily managing top 5s if she's back with her straightforward pop bangers.

yeah like I said, no way will her comeback chart as low as 'Rise' did. I imagine top 5 will be easy for her considering she won't release an unconventional pop song like 'Perfect Illusion' (and even that made #12) and her team will have learnt from before that an instant Spotify add is a must.

I wonder how much Rise will affect any new single?

If she's got The Brits, I wouldn't rule out #1 for her though. I'd say she's still a big enough name to do it with the right song.

I expect it will just be something random that we don't know about yet, if it's not Ed himself with another song. As mentioned, someone like Drake, Taylor or Katy could easily just announce a single like a week before dropping it, or even Beyonce it, and they might do it, so it's impossible to predict atm.

If only it would be Dua Lipa </3
