BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Can P!nk get her second number one album next week?

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 10 2017, 11:02 AM

On Friday P!nk's first album in 5 years is FINALLY released.

Her albums whilst all have sold well and stayed on the charts for a while only one has managed to go to number 1; do people think that Beautiful Trauma will be her second?

Looking at releases she doesn't have much competition so hopefully she'll get there. I'm confident she will as I can't see Liam's second week troubling her too much and her fanbase should be enough for the biggest female debut this year so far smile.gif

Posted by: Zárate Oct 10 2017, 11:08 AM

I think yes, we'll have a number one album from her next week! Liam will obviously slump in sales to 20-30k maybe, it's easily outdoable, especially with a smash that 'What About Us' was.

Posted by: Chapman Oct 10 2017, 11:22 AM

She'll manage at least 40k - 50k in the first week so dont think this should be an issue!

Posted by: cqmerqn Oct 10 2017, 11:22 AM

Oh 100%

Posted by: DANKENSTEIN Oct 10 2017, 12:07 PM

Quite easily I'd say. Real question is how much will she sell.

Posted by: SevenSeize Oct 10 2017, 12:16 PM

Guaranteed. Her last album opened on like 80k and I could see this one managing more

Posted by: timjimlee Oct 10 2017, 12:35 PM

Main competition will come from Robert Plant who I can see opening on 30k+, think Pink will get the #1 spot comfortably though.

My prediction:

1. Pink
2. Robert Plant
3. Liam Gallagher
4. Beck
5. Ed Sheeran

Top 10 entries from St. Vincent and Squeeze entirely possible as well. It is great to see 80s Artists such as Squeeze challenging for Top 10 almost every week at the moment.

I hope this goes to 1! How much did Katy Perry Witness sell in her first week?

A disappointing total of 16,153 (came in at #6).

Personally I believe WAU has been a much bigger hit than CTTR and i have a feeling it will pase it and providing nothing massive comes along and liam Gallagher's drop in week 2 is to below 20k she should do it no sweat

Posted by: liamk97 Oct 10 2017, 08:56 PM

Its pre-orders seemed to have been really good (currently #2 on the Amazon Music Best Sellers list, behind Liam Gallagher). I can see her achieving 70/80k sales.

I think P!nk is generally a better album seller and has a more dedicated fanbase than Katy Perry too.

I say she'll easily get her second #1. You go girl!

I'm really shocked Katy only got 16k. I know she probably isn't an album seller but still shocking considering!!!

Posted by: Steve201 Oct 11 2017, 06:28 PM

Thought Pink would have a huge album since I heard WAU and with broad support from adult and youth stations she could sell around 80-100k first week and with the gift buying season coming good promo could mean the sky's the limit for the album imho.

Posted by: timjimlee Oct 14 2017, 12:24 PM

Mint Royale has tweeted 'Easy number 1' for Pink, sounds promising based on early Sales figures but he has been known to get it wrong in the past.

Posted by: Envoirment Oct 14 2017, 03:10 PM

"What About Us" has been a big hit and is still #2 on the airplay chart. I think it'll be an easy #1 album for her. Wouldn't be surprised if she does 100k+.

Posted by: T Boy Oct 14 2017, 03:48 PM

I think some are overestimating the sales here. The market was much healthier 5 years ago and she only sold 78k then. This will be no.1 but I can't see it near 100k.

"What About Us" has been a bigger hit than "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" and the album is being released a month later than her previous. Granted album sales are low, but its pre-orders were very promising. I'm expecting around 60-80k, but it has a chance of 100k+. Will be interesting to see what the figures will be on monday or tomorrow if we get any info!

Posted by: cqmerqn Oct 14 2017, 04:48 PM

60-80k is most likely for pink

Posted by: gooddelta Oct 14 2017, 05:19 PM

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a little lower, like 45-50k.

Even that would be three times as much as Katy shifted. What About Us has been huge but the albums market has divebombed since 2012.

Would love to be proved wrong though as her eternal revelance is something to be admired.

Posted by: Hocus Pokus Oct 14 2017, 05:55 PM

I'm hoping she will do decent sales of around 65k, it should be a constant seller with the run up to Xmas. I must admit the single has really grown on me and now I hear it everywhere wherever I go. Love to see its opening sales on Monday, if they are around 35k she could do 80k max, or more.

What surprises me more, P!nk has never really lost her fan base, when other artists like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera fail to deliver.

Posted by: DANKENSTEIN Oct 14 2017, 10:12 PM

Added in a poll to save a new thread being made for one.

I think she'll do about 70k.

I think what keeps P!nk going is she really caters to the radio and her casual listener base. Britney and Christina lost that and subsequently just release for the fans now.

Britney's leads in the 2010s weren't big enough for her casual fanbase and the radio. She lost a bit of radio presence with 'Hold It Against Me' and then eventually killed it (and most of her casual listeners buys) stone dead with 'Pretty Girls' (which didn't even make the album such was its negative reaction). Christina likewise released a run of duds as lead singles with 'Keeps Getting Better', 'Not Myself Tonight' and 'Your Body' which killed interest.

Voted #1, 75k.

I would say it's more so that P!nk's music has evolved and matured along with her fanbase. That's allowed her to transition and gather a foothold with more AC leaning stations like BBC Radio 2/Magic/Heart etc whilst keeping herself open to the typical mainstream pop stations like Capital/BBC Radio 1.

P!nk has literally been releasing the exact same songs for 10 years now. I mean, her success and stability is really impressive but her "confessional pop rock" sound has not matured or evolved in any way, shape or form. Any song from her current album could have been in any of her previous albums.

The secret of her success is not that she has evolved. Quite the opposite. Is that people know exactly what to expect from her.

No no no

Stop pawin at her piece.

She is absolute TURD.

What sh does is chase trends. When Adele made it big, oops here se comes with SCREEECHY ballads and an anti feminist album called Something About Love - might as well call it Winning A Man Through His Stomach!!!!

Bizarre.

Then trop pop gets big and oh there she is!

But that is what Britney and Christina should have done. Britney just ended up releasing monotone dance for her small group of fans and the general public got bored of it, and of that sound, and moved on to other trends. Now they are 90s/ 00s relics. Britney is not to blame due to her mental health. She honestly should have retired or only done things like Vegas as she will never fully recover. It would have made her even more of a legend like that -like the Spice Girls. Christina with her eras before GaGa was always changing. When she started chasing GaGa and looking like a cheap jealous copy, that was the end. She should have stayed true to her evolution.

Posted by: Supercell Oct 15 2017, 04:50 AM

I put 100k+ haha.

Given how Liam managed to storm it with not having had half the singles chart success I think she will surprise everyone this week. Might realistically end up between 70-90k but I would not be surprised to see it higher.

Posted by: Bjork Oct 15 2017, 06:02 AM

Love Pink but agree shes had zero evolution as artist
But at least shes not following trends and doing tropical or singing in spanish

I don't even get the point you're trying to make in this post.

Anyway yes I agree that she hasn't really evolved her sound, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it's what has kept her going. She's giving her fans what they want rather than try to chase trends. I'm actually surprised she's still doing so well but very pleased for her.

As a huge P!nk fan myself though, I have to say I'm a little underwhelmed by the new album on first listen, so I'm even more surprised at how well it's looking to do. I probably just need to give it a few more listens though, thousands of people can't be that wrong laugh.gif

Posted by: T Boy Oct 15 2017, 09:26 AM

I don't care that she hasn't changed her style because I like her style. Other artists I like have changed their style for the worse and Pink always has great songs. She may not be too adventurous but her music is always true to herself which makes her music mean something more. I think the new album has taken her sound and made it more mature. She deserves all her success.

Posted by: John-Maims 💀 Oct 15 2017, 09:28 AM

Well her sales in the US are amazing so I wonder if we could be in for a treat here too

Posted by: 777666jason Oct 15 2017, 09:48 AM

Even when her singles do bad she has decent opening sales but WAU has been fairly big so fairly sure she will with ease maybe not over 100k but anywhere between 50-100k should be easy for her

Posted by: Jez Oct 15 2017, 02:01 PM

She is a big album seller,

So I expect her to do anything between 70k-100k first week

Eh, I would say her new album is her most mature/melow album she's released. There's definitely been evolution of her music. Listen to Can't Take Me Home and contrast it to her current album, quite a big difference.

This album is different from the last in terms of sound. It's more mature/mellow with a lot of mid tempo songs.

Posted by: Zárate Oct 15 2017, 10:01 PM

I really hated her previous era and love the new one. And 'What About Us' is super fresh and current. So I wouldn't say she isn't evolving at all!

I voted for #1 BUT with 40-60k sales unfortunately. The market state is dire, but I'd love her to go to 100k+ (pretty sure OCC would send a press release if she was above 50k after the first day though, like they did with Liam Gallagher).

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 20 2017, 07:58 PM

#1 with 70K (65k minus streams smile.gif )

Katy is not doing too well this era. I'm sure she can bounce back with her next album. Btw Swish Swish is an awful song.

P!nk is slaying the world as usual! These sales are huge. I definitely want to see her live this time!
