Good for David Gilmour making the top 75. Hope his album gets to number one
Only know three songs there
didn't know Gemma Hayes had a top 75 hit, she's an Irish singer-songwriter, but didn't know she had released anything in the UK... a magazine the other day had her in the top 3 x most beautiful Irish women

'Make a Move On Me' is a TUNE! What a blast from the past!
At #40 there is a song that became famous through a TV advert. Can you remember those little colourful balls running down the streets?
Well the artist is actually a one hit wonder although technically he had a second song in the top 40 in 2006 but never again…
This is a re-entry at #40, moved back up from #53.

Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats
amazing song, love it so much!!! Saw him last year at a festival in Aarhus, Denmark, and was amazed at the audience reaction: 100% of the people knew the lyrics... actually seeing him again this June!!!
Such a beautiful cover, one of my absolute favourite songs of the last decade!
#39
Oh those Baywatch girls and boys… everyone's dreams… or not?
Well there were a Swedish group who thought "let's make the Baywatch theme a hit". And they succeeded!
First hit, 2 more followed and then the group finished with their career.
BTW how interesting #40 and #39 both Swedish acts.
but actually the original by The Knife is totally amazing too,
like them both original and cover
Heartbeats both this and the Knife original are excellent
yay Sweden rules

It's gone downhill after a good start
I kinda remembered more their other hit, their cover of Robin Beck's First Time, the coke ad song from the 80s
Didn't Ministry of Sound have another version of this knocking about at the same time?
'Heartbeats' passed me by when it was first released, but having listened a few times now it's quite lovely!
'I'll Be Ready' is the first of what I expect to be many discoveries for me today
I'll Be Ready absolute TUNE.
Joyride in the retro!
And Heartbeats is fantastic in both forms, I was obsessed with it back in 06

First of the two songs this US superstar has in the top 40 in the countdown and this one was one of his biggest hits, although it didn't reach the number 1 in the UK. Collaborating with a US actor it was from the beginning on GOLD!
Heartbeats OMG One of my all time favourites...I mean, I'm loving this atm I think of bouncing bright colours whenever I hear this.

Biography
Kanye Omari West (/ˈkɑːnjeɪ/; born June 8, 1977) is an American hip hop recording artist, songwriter, record producer, former singer, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. He is among the most acclaimed musicians of the 21st century, attracting both praise and criticism for his work and outspoken public persona.
Raised in Chicago, West briefly attended art school before becoming known as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing hit singles for artists such as Jay Z and Alicia Keys. Intent on pursuing a solo career as a rapper, West released his debut album The College Dropout in 2004 to widespread commercial and critical success, and founded record label GOOD Music. He went on to explore a variety of different musical styles on subsequent albums that included the baroque-inflected Late Registration (2005), the arena-inspired Graduation (2007), and the starkly polarizing 808s & Heartbreak (2008). In 2010, he released his critically acclaimed fifth album, the maximalist My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and the following year he collaborated with Jay Z on the joint LP Watch the Throne (2011). West released his abrasive sixth album, Yeezus, to further critical praise in 2013. Following a series of recording delays and work on non-musical projects, West's seventh album, The Life of Pablo, was released in 2016.
West's outspoken views and ventures outside of music have received significant mainstream attention. He has been a frequent source of controversy and public scrutiny for his conduct at award shows, on social media, and in other public settings. His more publicized comments include his declaration that President George W. Bush "doesn't care about black people" during a live 2005 television broadcast for Hurricane Katrina relief, and his interruption of singer Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. West's efforts as a designer include collaborations with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and A.P.C. on both clothing and footwear, and have most prominently resulted in the Yeezy Season collaboration with Adidas beginning in 2013. He is the founder and head of the creative content company DONDA.
West is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 32 million albums and 100 million digital downloads worldwide. He has won a total of 21 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most awarded artists of all time and the most Grammy-awarded artist of his age. Three of his albums rank on Rolling Stone's 2012 "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list; two of his albums feature at first and eighth, respectively, in Pitchfork Media's The 100 Best Albums of 2010–2014. He has also been included in a number of Forbes annual lists. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2005 and 2015. - Wikipedia

Whole Lotta History entering the top 100
Nice idea for a thread! Interesting to see how much the chart has changed in 10 years.
To think that this chart is almost all physical sales whereas today's chart is made up of mostly streaming. I admire the greater variety of previous charts, but I do like the on-air-on-sale thing we've got going on now.
Also interesting to see what's happened to the artists in the chart after 10 years.
Eg. Pussycat Dolls disbanding, Girls Aloud getting tossed aside for Cheryl's solo career, Sugababes having another line up change. Madonna becoming a Radio 2 artist. Kanye West and Arctic Monkeys still going from strength to strength though.
'Gold Digger' is an absolute classic, still sounding as good today as it did 10 years back.
does anyone know what kept this off #1??
Strange chart run for Kanye there, it's more like something from today would have with the re-entries.
So excited for this - just joined to 'Gold Digger' *.* swag tune. x

Biography
A former British Army officer, singer/songwriter James Blunt was a thoughtful performer with a knack for crafting melodic contemporary soft rock tunes. Born in Tidworth, Wiltshire, England in 1974 to a family with a long military history, Blunt entered the Army after graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Ultimately achieving the rank of captain, Blunt served with the NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo and finished out his time in the military as a member of the Life Guard Regiment in the British Household Cavalry. Having long been interested in music, Blunt wasted no time in pursuing a pop career after leaving the Army.
A subsequent performance at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, brought Blunt to the attention of 4 Non Blondes singer/producer Linda Perry, who signed Blunt to her Custard Records label. Released in 2005, Blunt's debut album, Back to Bedlam, and its hit single, You're Beautiful, were hugely successful — the single hit number one in over a dozen countries, and sold over ten million copies worldwide. Blunt toured for much of 2005 and 2006, then released the two-disc "odds and sods" live/documentary album Chasing Time: The Bedlam Sessions in 2006. He had been writing songs while on the road, and brought Back to Bedlam producer Tom Rothrock in again to record. (The songs featured writing collaborations with Mark Batson, Jimmy Hogarth. Steve McEwan, and Max Martin, while the recordings featured Blunt's live backing band.) His sophomore effort, All the Lost Souls — featuring the leadoff single "1973" — finally dropped in September 2007.
Disillusioned by success and what he felt as a perceived loss of artistic credibility, Blunt took a break from music before coming back in 2010 with his third full-length effort Some Kind of Trouble, a more optimistic, spontaneous album influenced by '70s U.S. pop/rock, which sold well despite not being critically well-received. In 2012 he returned to the studio with Tom Rothrock to track his fourth album Moon Landing. Featuring "Miss America," Blunt's tribute to the late Whitney Houston, and the country-folk-influenced single Bonfire Heart, the record was scheduled for release in October 2013. - iTunes

Gold digger still sounds like a classic really prefer the pre-super-KW-ego-days
Goodbye My Lover - I kinda have a soft spot for this now but only because I haven't heard this in years. It got boring for me at the time though after a few weeks.
oh James Blount! his voice is just too nasal, can barely listen, although the song is probably her best, much better than You're Beautiful anyway
Omg James Blunt
Wow, excellent longevity for 'Gold Digger'.
I love 'Goodbye My Lover' so much Can't decide between this and 'High' as my favorite James Blunt song <3
Apparently James Blunt has a good sense of humour. All it needs is for someone to invent a platform for him to display this.
This is an okay song. Better than the likes of 'You're Beautiful' and 'Bonfire Heart' at least!

The indie rock band is since 2014 on hiatus, but 2006 was a big year for them. In fact between 2005 and 2013 they made 5 albums and all went to number 1 on the albums chart, as did their first 2 singles. And this was their second…
I'm so hollow
love the "I'm so hollow" coda at the end... enjoyed more than anticipated (despite his voice)

Former member Andy Nicholson (bass guitar, backing vocals) left the band in 2006 shortly after their debut album was released.
The band have released four studio albums: Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (2006), Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009) and Suck It and See (2011), as well as one live album At the Apollo (2008). Their fifth album AM is set to be released in September 2013, their singles "R U Mine?" , "Do I Wanna Know?" and "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" (released in February 2012, June 2013 and August 2013, respectively), will feature on the upcoming release.
The band's debut album became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, surpassing Elastica's self-titled album and remains the fastest-selling debut album by a group in the UK. The band have won five Brit Awards—winning Best British Group twice, and have twice been nominated for Grammy Awards.
Arctic Monkeys were heralded as one of the first group of acts to come to the public attention via the Internet (fan-based sites rather than from the band), with commentators suggesting they represented the possibility of a change in the way in which new bands are promoted and marketed. The band are also regarded as one of the most prominent bands to be part of the post-punk revival in the UK, after achieving commercial success and spawning two number one singles with their debut album. - Wikipedia

oh love this too!!! surprised at how many good songs we got so far... this and Heartbeats are both 10s to me
Nearly forgot this was happening! Glad I joined in time for When The Sun Goes Down, my favourite Arctics song for its brilliant energy.
this is pretty good
When the Sun Goes Down Best Arctics song, really deserved a better chart run than it got.
This is definitely the better of their two #1s So much energy indeed!
This is deffo one of their best, always preferred it to I Bet You Look too.
Arctic Monkeys started so well, their first 5-6 singles were all amazing, then they went completely downhill, but luckily recovered with the singles off AM
Love Me some Arctics

She won the very first American Idol. Do you know which year it was? Since then she had 3 US number 1 hits and 1 in the UK. This one that is charting at #35 reached a peak at #7 both in the US and the UK charts.

Biography
The winner of Fox TV's first American Idol competition during the summer of 2002, Kelly Clarkson went from an anonymous talent to a nationally known singer in a matter of months, performing for an audience of millions. One of the show's most naturally gifted singers, the affable Texan then went on to enjoy a successful pop career, with only Carrie Underwood rivaling her as American Idol's most commercial export. Clarkson was born in Fort Worth and raised in Burleson, Texas, and her vocal talents were discovered in seventh grade, when a music teacher heard her voice and urged Clarkson to join the school choir. After high school, she opted to skip college and went to Hollywood to make her name; she appeared as an extra on an episode of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, but no other opportunities materialized. Upon returning to Burleson, Clarkson worked at a movie theater, promoted Red Bull energy drinks, and ultimately worked as a cocktail waitress at a comedy club before entering the American Idol contest. One of 10,000 aspiring singers, Clarkson distinguished herself not only with her big, surprisingly mature voice, but also with her down-to-earth charm and sense of humor; at one of her auditions, she switched places with judge Randy Jackson, who did an impromptu version of R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly." Over the course of the 13-week show, her consistently strong performances of songs like "Respect," "Natural Woman," "Stuff Like That There," and "Without You" earned Clarkson enough audience votes to claim one of the contest's two finalist positions. After singing "A Moment Like This" and "Before Your Love," both of which were written for the show, Clarkson won the American Idol contest with 58 percent of the audience's votes. In addition to the show's prize of one million dollars and a recording contract with RCA, Clarkson secured a deal with Creative Artists Agency and several bookings, including the national American Idol tour and a performance of the national anthem at the September 11 commemoration at Washington, D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial. Despite her newfound fame, Clarkson opted to remain in Texas rather than move to New York or Los Angeles. Her first single, "A Moment Like This," was released just two weeks after she won the contest and quickly earned platinum sales. Clarkson's debut full-length, Thankful, was released in spring of 2003, just in time to coincide with the second season of American Idol (and right before the American Idol movie, From Justin to Kelly). Breakaway followed in late 2004 and was a huge success, selling over five million copies (making it the third best-selling album of 2005) and spawning the hit singles "Because of You," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," and the enormously popular "Since U Been Gone." That song and Breakaway earned Grammys for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album, respectively, at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards in early 2006. Clarkson continued her busy touring schedule into the summer and announced plans for her third album. Clarkson released My December, the studio follow-up to Breakaway, in 2007. Notable as Clarkson's first foray into songwriting, My December featured a darker, more rock-oriented edge than its predecessor and even featured a guest appearance by punk icon and bassist Mike Watt. However, label exec Clive Davis openly disapproved of the album's direction, claiming that it lacked the commercial appeal of Breakaway. A public feud ensued, and Clarkson was dealt another blow when poor ticket sales resulted in the cancellation of her upcoming tour. The leadoff single "Never Again" nevertheless became a Top Ten pop hit, and My December climbed its way to platinum status by the year's end. Clarkson returned to the top of the charts in early 2009, when the sugary single "My Life Would Suck Without You" set a record for the largest leap to number one. Composed by songwriting vets Max Martin, Lukasz Gottwald, and Claude Kelly, the song also set the stage for her fourth album, All I Ever Wanted, whose pop-minded material was mostly produced by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder. While touring in support of All I Ever Wanted, Clarkson announced that she had begun work on material for her follow-up. Eventually, she collaborated with a handful of writers and producers, including Claude Kelly and Howard Benson, as well as Jason Halbert, Rodney Jerkins, and others. In 2011, Clarkson released the resulting album Stronger. Her fifth studio effort, the album featured the single "Mr. Know It All." A Greatest Hits package followed in 2012, and Clarkson's first holiday album, Wrapped in Red, was released in October of 2013. As well as the usual selection of festive favorites, it included a number of newly written songs, including several co-penned by Clarkson herself. The year 2014 was relatively quiet, although she spent time recording her seventh album, Piece by Piece, with producer Greg Kurstin. The first single, "Heartbeat Song," appeared in January 2015, and the Billboard 200-topping album followed in March. It included songs from Sia Furler and Kara DioGuardi, as well as a feature for John Legend on "Run Run Run." - iTunes

"Heartbeats" and "Goodbye My Lover" are the best tracks so far! Loving 2006 though
Oh it is the weakest of the Breakaway trio but Because Of You is such a lovely ballad.
And looking back at what I missed, some great tunes there too, we have a good week here clearly.
This was a lovely ballad at first but got real old real quick due to overplay for me.
'Because Of You' is brilliant, one of her best from an era where Kelly was on top of her game.
sad but beautiful song about Kelly's father... love the "because of you I never strayed too far from the sidewalk"
coincidentally, her current single Piece by Piece is the continuation of the story, lyrically, like Because of You part 2
I've never really been able to get into 'Because of You' D:
^ this was pretty emosh back in the day tho
Can't get enough of Kelly this era! Wish her songs would peak higher but they've all had nice long chart runs from what I remember!

Biography
Dead or Alive were a British pop band from Liverpool, England. The group found success in the 1980s and had seven Top 40 UK singles and three Top 30 UK albums. They were the first group to have a number one single under the production team of Stock Aitken Waterman. Dead or Alive, which has variously included Pete Burns (vocalist), Wayne Hussey (guitarist), Mike Percy (bassist), Steve Coy (drummer) and Timothy Lever (various instruments), have released seven studio albums and five compilation albums, and became popular in Japan.
Two of the group's singles reached the U.S. Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100; "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" No. 11 in 1985, and "Brand New Lover" No. 15 in 1986. "You Spin Me Round" peaked at number one in 1985 in the UK, then charted again in 2003 and 2006 following Burns' controversial appearance on the television reality show Celebrity Big Brother. The latter also became the first of two singles to top the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. - Wikipedia

not bad... really sounds like the 80s compared to the other 2006 tracks
OMG best of the lot so far, what an absolute classic!
not familiar with the remix version but the original is a great classic, nice to see it make a re-appearance
A classic from Dead Or Alive, even if the lyrics don't make much sense.
timeless classic! Shame we won't be blessed with Dannii Minogue's mashup today
You Spin Me Round *.* Total classic and I remember having the Now album this was on <3 (also memories of Pete Burns on CBB, not so great).

Another one hit wonder but somehow with nice memories of this song. And a weird name choice. According to Wikipedia: "The band is named after a Hungarian girl whom one of the band members, Luke had a crush on at school." Well I'm Hungarian but I swear I haven't ever heard that word!

We had already a superstar, and here is another one, even bigger. This era was all about old songs sampling, like the Jackson 5 or Abba.
Also the album this song was taken from was her last million seller and rightfully!
love the I'm Luke I'm five and my dad's Bruce Lee coda
We are in a very good, nostalgic section here <3 Always loved JCB, really love the whimsical feel and that video was like the best thing ever at the time.
When The Sun Goes Down & JCB Song are both great. I've been listening to The Arctic Monkeys song a fair bit recently.

Biography
Madonna Louise Ciccone (/tʃɪˈkoʊni/; Italian: [tʃikˈkoːne]) (born August 16, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. She achieved popularity by pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music and imagery in her music videos, which became a fixture on MTV. Madonna is known for reinventing both her music and image, and for maintaining her autonomy within the recording industry. Music critics have acclaimed her musical productions, which have generated some controversy. Often referred to as the "Queen of Pop", she is cited as an influence by numerous other artists around the world.
Born in Bay City, Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1977 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing in the music groups Breakfast Club and Emmy, she signed with Sire Records (an auxiliary label of Warner Bros. Records) in 1982 and released her self-titled debut album the following year. She followed it with a series of commercially successful albums, including the Grammy Award winners Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Throughout her career, Madonna has written and produced most of her songs, with many of them reaching number one on the record charts, including "Like a Virgin", "Into the Groove", "Papa Don't Preach", "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up", and "4 Minutes".
Madonna's popularity was further enhanced by her film roles, including Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Dick Tracy (1990), and Evita (1996); the latter earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. However, most of her other films have been panned by critics. Her other ventures include fashion design, writing children's books, and filmmaking. She has been acclaimed as a businesswoman, particularly after she founded entertainment company Maverick (including the label Maverick Records). In 2007 she signed an unprecedented US $120 million 360 deal with Live Nation.
Having sold more than 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) listed her as the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century and the second best-selling female artist in the United States, with 64.5 million certified albums. According to Billboard, Madonna is the top touring female artist of all time, grossing over a billion dollars from her concerts. She was ranked at number two, behind only The Beatles, on the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists, making her the most successful solo artist in the history of American singles chart. Madonna became one of the five founding members of the UK Music Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility. - Wikipedia

'Hung Up' My second fave Madge song after 'Frozen'. Still sounding incredible 10 years later!
cant tyope im dancin
another 10/10
oh the old days when Madonna was capable to release good songs and didn't need to feature Nicki Minaj
Hung Up
such a flawless dance-pop hit, deffo one of my faves from oh five. (and clearly it had lasting impact to still be here today)
Oh fantastic! Hung Up was one of the best 2005 number ones even in such a great year, one of my favourite samples from one of my favourite ABBA songs, and a great song on its own merits, glad it had (TEN YEARS AGO) held on to this date.
Hung Up! used to hear this loads in 2005, still sounds great
Might be a bit soon but "Hung Up" is already sounding like the best song ever. We'll see how I feel in a decade
Confessions On A Dance Floor was one of the best Madonna albums, plus the Confessions Tour was one of the best if not the best tour of her. Shame I couldn't watch her live at that time.
really sounds as great now as it did in 2006!! has not aged a day!

Biography
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter (/biːˈjɒnseɪ/ bee-YON-say; born September 4, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and actress. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she performed in various singing and dancing competitions as a child, and rose to fame in the late 1990s as lead singer of R&B girl-group Destiny's Child. Managed by her father, Mathew Knowles, the group became one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. Their hiatus saw the release of Beyoncé's debut album, Dangerously in Love (2003), which established her as a solo artist worldwide, earned five Grammy Awards and featured the Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy".
Following the disbandment of Destiny's Child in June 2005, she released her second solo album, B'Day (2006), which contained hits "Déjà Vu", "Irreplaceable", and "Beautiful Liar". Beyoncé also ventured into acting, with a Golden Globe-nominated performance in Dreamgirls (2006), and starring roles in The Pink Panther (2006) and Obsessed (2009). Her marriage to rapper Jay Z and portrayal of Etta James in Cadillac Records (2008) influenced her third album, I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008), which saw the birth of her alter-ego Sasha Fierce and earned a record-setting six Grammy Awards in 2010, including Song of the Year for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)". Beyoncé took a hiatus from music in 2010 and took over management of her career; her fourth album 4 (2011) was subsequently mellower in tone, exploring 1970s funk, 1980s pop, and 1990s soul. Her critically acclaimed fifth studio album, Beyoncé (2013), was distinguished from previous releases by its experimental production and exploration of darker themes.
A self-described "modern-day feminist", Beyoncé creates songs that are often characterized by themes of love, relationships, and monogamy, as well as female sexuality and empowerment. On stage, her dynamic, highly choreographed performances have led to critics hailing her as one of the best entertainers in contemporary popular music. Throughout a career spanning 19 years, she has sold over 118 million records as a solo artist, and a further 60 million with Destiny's Child, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She has won 20 Grammy Awards and is the most nominated woman in the award's history. The Recording Industry Association of America recognized her as the Top Certified Artist in America during the 2000s decade. In 2009, Billboard named her the Top Radio Songs Artist of the Decade, the Top Female Artist of the 2000s and their Artist of the Millennium in 2011. Time listed her among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013 and 2014. Forbes magazine also listed her as the most powerful female musician of 2015. - Wikipedia

I keep forgetting Beyoncé released this song, lol.
so-so song for me...
never understood was it was released as a Beyonce song, should have been released as a Destiny's Child song
Love this song but it's probably Beyonce's worst music video IMO!
Two Legeneds one after the after
One of the catchiest Beyoncé songs as well, sounding so fresh as it's one I've never overplayed.
This is probably one of Beyoncé's worst for me unfortunately!
I completely forgot about this song until the recent Beyoncé discography rate. Truly a jam and several halves.
#30
One of my favourite dance acts, and they've had only 1 top 10 hit (so far)… uninvited… But this was just inside the top 20 and immediately dropped down to #30.
Insane how many classics there are between 31-40. Check On It is...not really, but it's OK.
Hung Up deffo my fave Madonna song.
You Spin Me Round
are the other Destinys Child girls doing backing vocals on this?

Biography
Fightstar are a British post-hardcore band from London, formed in 2003. The band's line-up comprises lead vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist Charlie Simpson, guitarist and vocalist Alex Westaway, bassist Dan Haigh and drummer Omar Abidi. Although generally considered a post-hardcore band, Fightstar are also known to implement metal, progressive, alternative rock and acoustic elements into their sound. During the band's initial emergence, they were faced with much scepticism due to Simpson's former pop career. However, they began to receive positive reactions to early live shows and their debut EP, They Liked You Better When You Were Dead (2005), was a critical success. Since then, their three studio albums have obtained top 40 chartings and critical praise. Fightstar's debut album, Grand Unification (2006) was regarded as "one of the best British rock albums of the past decade" by Kerrang! editor Paul Brannigan.
The band went onto receive nominations at the Kerrang! Awards for "Best British Band", before releasing their second album, One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours (2007). The following year a compilation album including b-sides and rarities titled, Alternate Endings (2008) was released. The band then self-funded and co-produced their third album, Be Human (2009), which heavily featured orchestral and choral elements. It became their highest charting album after peaking at number twenty in the UK Albums Chart. The band announced an extended hiatus in 2010, allowing its members to concentrate on other projects, including Simpson's solo album; before announcing their reunion in 2014. - Wikipedia

14 number 1 hits, but this one was not one of them. In fact it peaked outside of the top 3 from the Irish boy band that doesn't exist anymore (thankfully?).
Amazing isn't it?
WTF is this lmao. V kool v rock v credible x
never heard this before...
dire
Watchin' sounds great on first listen! Waste A Moment on the other hand sounds pretty dated, hopefully their earlier singles were better than this.

lamfoo at Westlife's drop I hope they split up in a few years time.
This sounds older than 2006~
This is such an 'I Want It That Way' rip-off! Not really essential Westlife.
And here we have Westbackstreet Lifeboys
I'd be happy to see some rock but on first listen, Waste A Moment is hardly the best done of the genre. Lol to see some Busted alumni hanging around.
And I'd forgotten going back to the mid-00s meant we'd probably get these WRETCHES. Be-gone with you, Wetflies.
these pestlife singles just bleed into one another~
Omg a underrated Westlife jam

Biography
William Robert "Will" Young (born 20 January 1979) is an English singer-songwriter and actor who came to prominence after winning the 2002 inaugural series of the British music contest Pop Idol, making him the first winner of the worldwide Idol franchise. His double A-sided debut single "Evergreen/Anything is possible" was released two weeks after the show's finale and became the fastest-selling debut single in the UK. Young also came in fifth place in World Idol performing his single "Light My Fire".
As a teenager, Young studied politics at the University of Exeter before moving to London, where he studied musical theatre at Arts Educational School. Young put his studies on hold in late 2001 to become a contestant on Pop Idol. After winning the competition the following year, he released his debut album From Now On (2002) which went straight to number one. Friday's Child (2003) followed and enjoyed greater success, eventually going platinum five times in the UK and spawning three top five singles. His following albums Keep On (2005) and Let It Go (2008) and Echoes (2011) also went multi-platinum and his most recent release 85% Proof (2015) became his fourth UK number-one album. His albums have spawned many songs that have accomplished top ten positions in the UK, four of which went to the number one spot. Young has also undertaken numerous concert tours. He has also accumulated multiple honours, including two BRIT Awards from 12 nominations, and the estimated worldwide sale of over eight million albums. Young's net worth was estimated at £13.5 million in April 2012.
Alongside his music career, Young has acted in film, on stage and in television. For his performance in the 2013 London revival of the musical Cabaret, he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He has also participated in philanthropy and released books Anything is Possible (2002), On Camera, Off Duty (2004) and his autobiography Funny Peculiar (2012). - Wikipedia

Wouldn't be the mid 00s without random landfill indie entries and frontloaded Westlife entries :') Amazing is actually quite a guilty pleasure oops
after the horrible Westlife song... a 0/10 for me
finally another great song, another 10/10 for me, Will Young at his best, my fav of his even better than Leave Right Now
this should have been a #1, probably it would have if released as lead single before Xmas...
First time I listen to this too. Will Young has improved his sound greatly since...
Will Young had a few good songs. This is definitely not one of them, so boring and forgettable.
I don't mind stuff from people like Westlife/Will Young, but only a couple of them. Don't mind the Westlife one here though
Was really looking forward to this but I'm now sitting with a bandage on my toe so yeah I'm going to miss practically all of this
this is becoming a MOR fest at the moment~
really? surprised you guys don't like this... easily his best for me
I don't recognise this at all, and for that I am thankful.

great to have another dance hit finally after all that MOR and indie.
Thank goodness! One of my earliest clubbing memories was to this song!
Hi_Tack with the underscore! Just what we need to bring a bit of life back. Fantastic quirky dance tune, I really do miss this style of dance.
Hi Tack
what's the original?? Michael Jackson?

Americans up next again, punk rock band from Chicago. Since 2013 actually we know that their songs know what we do in the dark
This is such a banger, sounding especially good after quite a few slow songs. Great MJ re-working (as well as 'Somebody's Watching Me' )

Biography
Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago in 2001. The band consists of vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley. The band originated from Chicago's hardcore punk scene, with which Wentz was heavily involved. The group was formed by Wentz and Trohman as a pop punk side project of their respective hardcore bands, and Stump joined shortly thereafter. The group went through a succession of drummers before landing Hurley and recording their debut album, Take This to Your Grave (2003), which became an underground success and helped the band gain a dedicated fanbase through heavy touring, as well as some moderate commercial success.
With Wentz as the band's lyricist and Stump as the primary composer, the band's 2005 major-label breakthrough, From Under the Cork Tree, produced two hit singles, "Sugar, We're Goin Down" and "Dance, Dance", and went double platinum, transforming the group into superstars and making Wentz a celebrity and tabloid fixture. Fall Out Boy received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Their 2007 follow-up, Infinity on High, landed at number one on the Billboard 200 with 260,000 first week sales. It produced several worldwide hit singles, "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs". Folie à Deux, the band's fourth album, created a mixed response from fans and commercially undersold expectations. Following the release of Believers Never Die - Greatest Hits, the band took a hiatus from 2009 to 2012 to "decompress", exploring various side projects. They regrouped and recorded Save Rock and Roll (2013), which gave the band their second career number one and produced the top 20 single "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)".
While Fall Out Boy's music has been typically described as pop punk and pop rock, the band were generally seen in the mid-2000s at the forefront of the "emo pop" explosion. Take This to Your Grave has often been cited as a vital blueprint for pop punk music in the 2000s. - Wikipedia

And this! I have nothing but praise for this pop-punk classic. The start of an incredible career *.*
Love a thread like this - I'm a huge chart can especially back in 2005/06 but when you listen to the countdown and hear artists like The Rifles, Keisha White etc entering you forget completely is great lol.
Fall Out Boy can release some good songs, but I'm not one for their older stuff.
Hi_Tack and Fall Out Boy are both real classics (though the former seems quite unappreciated these days </3), the sort of mid-00s dance and indie that was done right.
Wow who would have thought FOB would be still charting in 2016!
The defining track of the mid-00s American Rock movement for me.
I was only 7 at the time so don't really recall any of these but Check On It is so good, gets a hard time but it's a lot of fun an so catchy. No-rap version all the way of course!

Biography
The Ordinary Boys are an English indie rock band from Worthing, West Sussex. Originally a hardcore outfit named Next in Line, they are influenced by punk rock and Britpop music, as well as the bands The Clash, The Specials, The Jam, The Kinks and The Smiths. Their name derives from a Morrissey song, "The Ordinary Boys". The membership of the band that originally split up in 2008 consisted of founding members Samuel Preston (vocals, rhythm guitar) – generally known simply by his surname "Preston", William Brown (lead guitar), James Gregory (bass), plus Simon Goldring (drums) who had replaced Charlie "Chuck" Stanley in 2005.[2] In 2015 the Ordinary Boys returned with a new album "The Ordinary Boys" with a release date of 2 October 2015 released on their own imprint label Treat Yourself, their fourth album, released on multiple formats and a 25-date UK tour from mid-October 2015 to mid-November 2015 to promote the album. - Wikipedia

'Sugar, We're Goin' Down', on the other hand, incredible! Just heard 'Boys Will Be Boys' for the first time a week or two ago, not something I'd expect as a top 3 hit, even for 2006, but that makes it all the better

Biography
Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (pronounced: [ʃaˈkiɾa isaˈβel meβa'ɾak riˈpol]; born February 2, 1977), known professionally as Shakira (English /ʃəˈkɪərə/, Spanish: [ʃaˈkiɾa]), is a Colombian singer-songwriter, dancer, record producer, choreographer and model. Born and raised in Barranquilla, she began performing in school, demonstrating Latin, Arabic, and rock and roll influences and belly dancing abilities. Shakira released her first studio albums, Magia and Peligro, in the early 1990s, failing to attain commercial success; however, she rose to prominence in Latin America with her major-label debut, Pies Descalzos (1996), and her fourth album, Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998).
Shakira entered the English-language market with her fifth album, Laundry Service (2001), which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Its lead single, "Whenever, Wherever", became the best-selling single of 2002. Her success was solidified with her sixth and seventh albums Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (2005), the latter of which spawned the best-selling song of the 21st century, "Hips Don't Lie". Shakira's eighth and ninth albums, She Wolf (2009) and Sale el Sol (2010), received critical praise but suffered from limited promotion due to her strained relationship with label Epic Records. Her official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)", became the biggest-selling World Cup song of all time. With over 550 million views, its music video is the eighth most-watched video on YouTube. Since 2013, Shakira has served as a coach on the American version of The Voice, having appeared in two of its six seasons.
Shakira has won many awards including five MTV Video Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, twenty-eight Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been Golden Globe-nominated. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and she is the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time, having sold a total of 125 million records worldwide, over 70 million albums and 55 million singles. Her U.S. album sales stand at 9.9 million. Outside of her work in the music industry, Shakira is also involved in philanthropic activities through charity work and benefit concerts, notably her Pies Descalzos Foundation, her performance at the "Clinton Global Initiative" created by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and her invitation to the Oval Office by President Barack Obama in February 2010 to discuss early childhood development. In 2013, Shakira was listed on Forbes as one of the 100 most powerful women in the world. - Wikipedia

No idea that Charlotte song existed. Not too bothered about not knowing it.
Don't Bother though, that one's stuck in my conscience, my favourite slower Shakira song and one of the best in her catalogue anyway.
On retrospect, this is definitely in my Top 5 Shakira songs... so emosh!
Shakira's lost it a bit recently, her song with Rihanna was beyond bad, but this is great!!!
Moodswings actually sounding good on first listen!
Yesss at Don't Bother, a very underrated Shakira song!

Although this sounds like something that never caught the public consciousness anyway.

"Don't Bother" is quite good by Shakira's standards. I'm not usually a fan of hers, "Hips Don't Lie" did nothing for me.
So many good underrated songs so far.
The Weakness In Me, Moodswings, Don't Bother and Like You .
ok-ish r'n'b track at most
This is probably the worst thing Ciara put her name to... :/
What sort of a name is Bow Wow? I've really never come across him before.
Sounds pretty smooth on first listen I do like Ciara some of the time, I can go with this.
If I remember correctly, this week in 1986 David Bowie's final top 5 hit Absolute Beginners entered the chart.
Anyway, Orson for number one!
#16
Third new entry in a row, by a Grammy award winner band. With this song they climbed the following week into the top 3 and peaked at #3. Let's pump to it!

Biography
The Black Eyed Peas is an American hip hop group, consisting of rappers will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo, and singer Fergie. Originally an alternative hip hop group, they subsequently added R&B and EDM influences. Although the group was founded in Los Angeles in 1995, it was not until the release of their third album Elephunk in 2003 that they achieved high record sales. Since that time, the group has sold an estimated 76 million records (35 million albums and 41 million singles), making them one of the world's best-selling groups of all time. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the Black Eyed Peas were the second-best-selling artist/group of all time for downloaded tracks, with over 42 million sales as of the end of 2011.
Their first major hit was the 2003 single "Where Is the Love?" from Elephunk, which topped the charts in 13 countries, including the United Kingdom, where it spent seven weeks at number one and went on to become Britain's biggest selling single of 2003. Another European hit single from the album was "Shut Up". Their fourth album, Monkey Business, was an even bigger worldwide success, certified 4× Platinum in the U.S., and spawning four singles, "Don't Phunk with My Heart", "Don't Lie", "My Humps" and "Pump It". In 2009, the group became one of only 11 artists to have simultaneously held the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Billboard Hot 100, with their singles "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling", which topped the chart for an unprecedented 26 consecutive weeks. This album The E.N.D later produced a third Hot 100 number-one placement with "Imma Be", making the group one of few to ever place three number one singles on the chart from the same album, before being followed with "Rock That Body" and "Meet Me Halfway", which peaked in the Top 10 of the Hot 100. "I Gotta Feeling" became the first single to sell more than one million downloads in the United Kingdom.
The Black Eyed Peas were ranked 12th on Billboard's Decade-End Chart Artist of the Decade, and 7th in the Hot 100 Artists of the Decade. At the 52nd Grammy Awards ceremony, held in January 2010, they won three awards out of six nominations. In November 2010, they released the album The Beginning. In February 2011, the group performed at the Super Bowl XLV halftime show. The album's first two singles, "The Time (Dirty Bit)" and "Just Can't Get Enough", became international hits and topped the charts in many countries. The single "Don't Stop the Party" became an international hit as well. - Wikipedia

ok-ish BEPs song, they've done better but also much worse
love this BEP song, one of their best from their early stuff. Infact their whole singles discog on the whole is amazing.
pump it LOUDER ~ what a jam!
It's no "Where Is The Love?" but it's miles better than the dreadful "My Humps" at least
'Pump It' definitely defines 2006 for me.
I definitely haven't listened to 'Like You' since 10 years ago and I'm surprised how much I like it today.
'Pump It' is INCREDIBLE *.* BEPs at their absolute best, their earlier songs have aged extremely well.
Oh this was certainly everywhere. Never been one I've listened to much myself but it's a pretty cool song for the right mood.

Biography
The Source was originally an alias for the songwriting team of Anthony B. Stephens, Arnecia Michelle Harris and John Bellamy, who wrote the 1986 single release "You Got the Love", which featured Candi Staton on vocals. This was released on Source Records.
In 1989, DJ Eren, a club DJ in London, UK, put Candi Staton's vocals over an early House track by Jamie Principle called "Your Love", which became a club hit. This version was also released in 1989 by British producer/DJ John Truelove as The Source, on a vinyl bootleg EP known as "Love/Rock".
John Truelove then adopted the name The Source for himself and continued releasing records using the name. The mash-up of You Got The Love, credited to The Source featuring Candi Staton charted in 1991 in an official release, reaching number 4 in the UK Singles Chart.
In 1997 it was remixed and released again by Truelove, this time under the alias Now Voyager, reaching one spot higher at number 3.
Truelove signed with XL Recordings in 1997 and released a 12-inch EP called Clouds, featuring four different mixes of the Chaka Kahn song "Clouds" sung by Kahn's sister, Yvonne Stevens, aka Taka Boom.
In 2006, "You Got the Love" was remixed and re-released yet again, reaching number 7.
In 2009, Florence & The Machine released a version entitled "You've Got The Love" from the album "Lungs".
Now Voyager began as a band started by Truelove in 1996. He recruited Louise De Fraine (vocals), Chris Harvey (guitar) and Larry Lush (programming, keyboards). Despite writing and showcasing an album of material, the band failed to secure a significant record deal. Now Voyager remains a side project for John Truelove. - Wikipedia

simply IKONEK *.*
The original is better but this is a lush update
So many new entries in the top 20 - as if we'd ever get a flood of new entries like that today :') The first two were quite inessential (Bow wow though :') Cribs memories), Pump It is brilliant though, BEPs classic.
You've Got The Love sounds weird if just cos I'm so used to hearing the Florence version of this these days!
This song never gets old.
This two are like classics now

First hit from the Ex of Rihanna. rapping on the song Juelz Santana, who appeared on the chart 4 times but only once not as a guest perfomer.
This is actually better than the Florence version despite not being as familiar with it, she oversings it a bit, this just sounds pleasant in comparison (and I say pleasant because it was never the greatest song on its own).

Biography
Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, dancer and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows from a young age. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year. It peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single "Run It!" peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist as a lead since Diddy in 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Hot 100 number one "Kiss Kiss", in addition to "With You" and "Forever". The album was also certified double platinum by the RIAA.
In 2009, Brown received much media attention after pleading guilty to felony assault of his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna; he was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. His third album Graffiti was released later that year, and included the top-twenty single "I Can Transform Ya". Brown's fourth album F.A.M.E. (2011) became his first to top the Billboard 200; it spawned the successful singles "Yeah 3x", "Look at Me Now", and "Beautiful People". F.A.M.E. earned Brown his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 54th Grammy Awards. His fifth album Fortune was released in 2012. However, after the release of Exclusive, Brown's albums have not been well received commercially or by music critics, with the exception of X, which received a normalized rating of 63. Brown's seventh studio album Royalty was released on December 18, 2015.
Apart from his work in the music industry, Brown has pursued an acting career. In 2007, he made his on-screen feature film debut in Stomp the Yard, and appeared as a guest on the television series The O.C.. Other films Brown has appeared in, include This Christmas (2007), Takers (2010), Think Like a Man (2012), and Battle of the Year (2013). Throughout his career, Brown has won several awards, including two NAACP Image Awards, three American Music Awards and fourteen BET Awards. - Wikipedia

Biography
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer-songwriter, actor, and businessman. Called the King of Pop, his contributions to music, dance, and fashion, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.
The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1968, and began his solo career in 1971. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with breaking down racial barriers and with transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool. The popularity of these videos helped to bring the then-relatively-new television channel MTV to fame. With videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream", he continued to innovate the medium throughout the 1990s, as well as forging a reputation as a touring solo artist. Through stage and video performances, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive sound and style has influenced numerous hip hop, post-disco, contemporary R&B, pop, and rock artists.
Jackson's 1982 album Thriller is the best-selling album of all time. His other albums, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995), also rank among the world's best-selling. Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He was also inducted into the Dance Hall of Fame as the first and only dancer from pop and rock music. Some of his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records; 13 Grammy Awards as well as the Grammy Legend Award and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award; 26 American Music Awards, more than any other artist, including the "Artist of the Century" and "Artist of the 1980s"; 13 number-one singles in the United States in his solo career, more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era; and the estimated sale of over 400 million records worldwide. Jackson has won hundreds of awards, making him the most-awarded recording artist in the history of popular music. In what would have been Jackson's 52nd birthday on August 29, 2010, he became the most downloaded artist of all time in Nokia Music Store. A philanthropist, Jackson constantly traveled the world attending events honoring his humanitarianism and the 2000 Guinness Book of Records recognized him for supporting 39 charities.
Aspects of Jackson's personal life, including his changing appearance, personal relationships, and behavior, generated controversy. In the mid-1990s, he was accused of child sexual abuse, but the case was settled out of court for about $25 million and no formal charges were brought. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted of further child sexual abuse allegations and several other charges after the jury found him not guilty on all counts. While preparing for his comeback concert series titled This Is It, Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication on June 25, 2009, after suffering from cardiac arrest. The Los Angeles County Coroner ruled his death a homicide, and his personal physician Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Jackson's death triggered a global outpouring of grief and a live broadcast of his public memorial service was viewed around the world. - Wikipedia

'Billie Jean' Such a classic! Can't decide if this or 'Thriller' is my favourite MJ song.
I don't like many MJ tracks but this is definitely one of the better ones.
one of the best song sin the history of music!!!! those lyrics!!!
Michael Jackson classics Billie Jean being quite a highlight.
Reissues, that's another thing that seems bizarre looking back. Pretty brilliant MJ song anyway.
Billie Jean is such a classique

I forget that physical re-releases of classic singles like this still did well then (and remember all those Elvis singles that were released again in 2007). Always lovely to hear Billie Jean though
Close to a million sales!
classic mj
from classic (Billie Jean)... to classic (Temperature)... NOT
Little break from the chart but the top 10 is coming up with 2 hot new entries and 1 climber!
loving this
Sean De Paul
oh so Sean Paul is not at #10 then... uff
Sean Paul is so good at bringing the BANGERS This is such a classic as well as 'Get Busy' *.*
I almost got fooled then as well. And with Nature's Law too, that's one of my favourite 2006 songs altogether, so heroic
yep we are having some interlude songs in dubtrack so that we don't finish too early. and to keep you all on your toes.
Nature's Law in the interlude lovely indie anthem
Only have a very faint memory of 'Nature's Law'. Probably my favourite (re-)discovery so far. <3
Any idea of the total sales of You Got the Love with all it's sales combined?
'Temperature' should've peaked way higher than #11
And again Dan! Crazy is so much the sound of early 2006 I forgot it wasn't quite around just yet.
ADORE 'Crazy' 10 years later despite its ubiquity at the time.
'Crazy' is a serious tune, amazing how it broke the download sales only record AND spent 9 weeks at #1 Such impakt
"Crazy" is THE WORST
#10
Back to the chart:
Nine years after his shock death he was still making hit singles. Who is he? Clue: He's very big

Biography
Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997), better known by his stage names The Notorious B.I.G, Biggie, or Biggie Smalls, was an American rapper. Murdered at age 24, Wallace is consistently ranked as one of the greatest and most influential rappers of all time.
Wallace was raised in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. When he released his debut album Ready to Die in 1994, he became a central figure in the East Coast hip hop scene and increased New York's visibility in the genre at a time when West Coast hip hop was dominant in the mainstream. The following year, Wallace led his childhood friends to chart success through his protégé group, Junior M.A.F.I.A. While recording his second album, Wallace was heavily involved in the growing East Coast–West Coast hip hop feud.
On March 9, 1997, Wallace was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. His double-disc album Life After Death, released 16 days later, rose to No. 1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000, one of the few hip hop albums to receive this certification. Wallace was noted for his "loose, easy flow", dark semi-autobiographical lyrics and storytelling abilities. Two more albums have been released since his death. He has certified sales of 17 million units in the United States. - Wikipedia

Nasty Girl
'Nasty Girl' That production is so infectious.
wasn't a fan of this at the time but it's sounding very good now!
#9
Next we have the debut chart hit for a band that would go on to have one of the defining albums of 06. Further albums would flop, but they'll Never Be Lonely if you think fondly of them now!
I'm not actually that familiar with this or it's... interesting lyrics but it's sounding very good despite that. Similar circumstances in song to Ghetto Gospel actually, although very different in terms of mood.
same, doesn't sound bad but don't recall liking it back in the day
What a classic!

Biography
The Feeling are a BRIT award-nominated English rock band from West Sussex and London.
Following a limited release of their first single "Fill My Little World" in late 2005, the band entered the UK Singles Chart at #7 with their first full release "Sewn" in February 2006. The single was one of the year's biggest radio hits, after being played first in the UK on the Dermot O'Leary Show on Radio 2, along with their first live radio session.
Their debut album Twelve Stops and Home was released in the UK on 5 June 2006 and on 27 February 2007 in the US. Their second album, Join With Us, which reached number one on the UK Charts, was released on 18 February 2008. Their third album, Together We Were Made, was released on 20 June 2011, followed by the release of their greatest hits album Singles (2006-2011) on 5 December. The bands most recent album Boy Cried Wolf was released in 2013 to critical acclaim. In August 2014 it was reported that they have been working on their 5th studio album. Their name comes from a neon sign seen by bassist Richard on a bar (Le Feeling) in Paris. - Wikipedia

This chart. Bringing up so many forgotten gems. Keisha White Charlotte Church and Beyoncé's most underrated jam.
Then we have Nizlopi and lets be honest Nizlopi >>>>>>>>>>>>> Lukas Graham. Kelly Clarkson's stunning ballad that I can imagine having a 'Jar Of Hearts' style run if it was to be released nowadays.
Shakira's best song in the chart too Also as much as I find that Will Young song dreadful, I think it'd be a bigger hit if released now.
Hell YES at this. I wouldn't normally fawn over a radio-pop song this much but the Feeling knocked it out of the park with Sewn, such beautiful guitar chords and singing without ever getting annoying. I think it has to be at the pinnacle of its type of song.
Quite like the Feeling's 06 output but I never really bothered with them after that.
Love love LOVE Sewn.
Bought the album but it wasn't that good.

Bring out a 70s disco legend for your dance remix? Should work a treat!
This song is so beautiful, easily my favourite of theirs!
Sewn the best of The Feeling's singles!
didn't remember this one that well, prefer their other singles
The Feeling sum up 2006 more than most of this chart, even if they were technically active outside of that year too. Sewn was lovely, I did prefer Fill My Little World though (and it's lizard tank vid <3)

such a tune this, lots of energy and disco vibes in it.
What a strong voice (and some pretty lovely production too). One of the very best reworkings of an older song we've ever had, mainly in how well it revitalised the song for a new generation.
dance music in 06 seemed to be all about revamping old songs
absolute tune tho

- Wikipedia

Some of these songs sum up 2007 well
another great Madonna choon from when she was on top of her game!
Also loved 'Get Together' which would be a top 10 later on in the year
'Hung Up' is the best thing that came from this era but 'Sorry' is really good as well. <3
oh those were the days when Madonna could even get #1s with post-album singles!!!
2006 is so many things. Anthemic rock, The Feeling on the radio, 80s hits getting dance jams, and through it all, Madonna, persisting in the best way she ever managed to persist. Sorry is another great pop song, a great followup to Hung Up. I love this year.
#6
Way before his arrogance overtook his music, up next is a rather great new entry. I'm (gold) digging this!
Proving 'Confessions' is the best Madonna era post ROL
Sorry This is proving to be SUCH a fab era for Madonna, I hope she pushes Jump as a single at some point.
Get Together and Jump were not as good but were decent
woah @ that mid-noughties posthumous success for notorious b.i.g. *.*
meck ~ a brilliant 2006 #1

- Wikipedia

#5
A rather sweet breakthrough song next, kind of gentle and sunny sounding. Would be the biggest hit of her career, but would sell a fair few albums off the back of this.
The Confessions era was such a great last hurrah (quality wise at least :')) for Madonna, Sorry is so good.
Touch The Sky as well is fantastic from Kanye <3 I forget there was a time I actually constantly really liked these artists' outputs.
ICONIQUE
One of Kanye's most lovely-sounding songs. So smooth and reaching and, just lovely to listen to. Kanye can really make some tunes when he has the inclination.

Biography
Corinne Bailey Rae (born Corinne Jacqueline Bailey; 26 February 1979) is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist from Leeds, West Yorkshire. Bailey Rae was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2006 in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2006. She released her debut album, Corinne Bailey Rae, in February 2006, and became the fourth female British act in history to have her first album debut at number one. In 2007, Bailey Rae was nominated for three Grammy Awards and three Brit Awards, and won two MOBO Awards. In 2008, she won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year (for her work as a featured artist in Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters).
Bailey Rae released her second album, The Sea, on 26 January 2010, after a hiatus of almost three years. It was produced by Steve Brown and Steve Chrisanthou (who produced her debut album in 2006). She was nominated for the 2010 Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. In 2012, she won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance (for "Is This Love)". Bailey Rae was married to fellow musician Jason Rae from 2001 until his death in 2008, and as part of the grieving process, she channelled her emotions into her music. Her two albums have together sold over five million copies worldwide. - Wikipedia

This song is just so lovely, bliss.
Always found this so overrated and bland.
love Put Your Records On!!!!!!!!! Another 10/10 song for me
hear she's got a new album com in gout soon!!! Her debut was a great record
This comes up way too much on shuffle. Pleasant song really, some cool lyrics but I liked it more at the time.
Put Your Records On is such a nice, chilled jam
Put Your Records On Didn't seem quite that big to me so I was pleasantly surprised to see it peaked at #2 in the UK!
This has been an exciting top 10 so far, looking forward to the rest. It will be my first ever time listening to It's Chico Time
this song is so blegh

00s mega band alert! Riding high at this time these ladies would go on to have more chart toppers with different line ups, but this highest new entry showed their success earlier in the decade was no fluke!
Awww Corinne. Memories of Heart FM with this one :') Classic one hit wonder though.
such a sweet and beautiful song!

Biography
The Sugababes were an English pop girl group, formed in 1998 with founding members Siobhán Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan. Their debut album, One Touch, was released in the UK through London Records on 27 November 2000. The album achieved moderate success, peaking at number 26 in April 2001 and eventually being certified Gold. In 2001, Donaghy departed the group amid rumours of a rift with Buchanan and the group were dropped by their record label. With the introduction of Heidi Range, the group began to experience a higher level of commercial success whilst keeping the critical acclaim they had achieved with their debut album. They released three studio albums before Buena announced her departure in December 2005, leading to Amelle Berrabah being brought in to replace her. Following the release of their first greatest hits album, the new line-up released two studio albums. In September 2009, after 11 years in the Sugababes, Buchanan, the final original member, was replaced by former UK Eurovision entry Jade Ewen. Range, Berrabah and Ewen released the group's seventh studio album, Sweet 7, in 2010, after which they signed to RCA Records, before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2011. In 2013, Ewen confessed that the Sugababes had split two years earlier. The original line-up of the band reformed in 2011, under the new name Mutya Keisha Siobhan.
In 2006, British Hit Singles & Albums named the Sugababes as the most successful female act of the 21st century with six UK number one singles and eighteen UK top ten hits. They racked up six number-one singles, "Freak like Me", "Round Round", "Hole in the Head", "Push the Button", "Walk This Way" and "About You Now"; the Spice Girls are the only British girl group to have had more. They also released five UK top ten albums, four of which reached at least platinum certification in the UK, and have been nominated for six Brit Awards, winning one for Best British Dance Act in 2003. They have been a long-term fixture in the British tabloids due to their several line-up changes and alleged group infighting.
As of 2010 the Sugababes had sold just under 8 million records in the UK. - Wikipedia

Love this Sugababes song
Highest new entry was Sugababes but we still have a high climber
wasn't expecting Sugababes!!!!! Red Dress is a good poor song but pales in comparison with their best singles
Love when the Sugababes put out their $l*t pop jams!
I find Red Dress rather meh, much prefer Ugly and a fair few of their other previous hits (Too Lost In You )
Album chart:
1 David Gilmour - On An Island
2 Corinne Bailey Rae - Corinne Bailey Rae
3 Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
4 Andrea Bocelli - Amore
5 Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
8 Van Morrison - Pay The Devil
13 Madonna - Confessions On A Dance Floor
14 David Essex - Greatest Hits
22 Shakira - Oral Fixation - Vol 2
Ooh I remember being really intrigued by this song due to it being Amelle's debut. Was very pleased, sooo catchy!
#3
Sort of a supergroup next - a very 00s song. Featuring a member of a huge band that was on the up and a massive band that made a huge impact in 2005. Great track actually.
Red Dress is a very solid pop track good stuff

Biography
The Pussycat Dolls were an American girl group and dance ensemble, founded in Los Angeles, California, by choreographer Robin Antin in 1995 as a burlesque troupe. After attracting media attention, Antin negotiated a record deal with Interscope Geffen A&M Records in 2003 turning the group into a music franchise comprising Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton and Kimberly Wyatt. Overseen by Antin, Interscope and various partners, the group was transformed into a global image and commercial brand. The Pussycat Dolls were launched into mainstream recognition following the release of PCD, which contained the number-one singles "Don't Cha", "Buttons", and "Stickwitu". However, despite their commercial success, the group was plagued by internal conflict due to the overemphasis on Scherzinger, the group's lead member, and the subordinate treatment of the other members. Bachar's departure from the group preceded the release of their second and final studio album Doll Domination, which contains singles "When I Grow Up", "I Hate This Part" and "Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)".
In 2009, they announced a minor hiatus that was later revealed to be an official break-up. The Dolls brand diversified into merchandise, reality television programs, a Las Vegas act, product endorsements, spin-off recording groups (Girlicious, Paradiso Girls, G.R.L.) and other ventures. Billboard ranked the Pussycat Dolls as the 80th most successful musical act of the 2000s. The group has sold 54 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. In 2012, The Pussycat Dolls ranked 100th on VH1's 100 Greatest Women in Music, and as the tenth all-girl group. - Wikipedia

low debut in albums for Shakira despite Don't Bother being a hit and considering the Laundry Service era did so well
oh Nicole looks so young in the video
This was always my least favourite of theirs. From the sample to the bleep noise and the ha-ha-ha's it's all a big ball of No for me. Nicole just about saves it.
Red Dress is my least favourite Sugas song, never liked it. Beep is quite a bit better but not GREAT. Top end of the chart suddenly falling down a bit.
'Beep' is really great, it should've been a #1
Mediocre track from a mostly overrated girl group~
I love this from PCD (and I didn't really like neither Don't Cha nor Stickwitu)
#2
Up next is an infamous future chart topper, climbing here from 5 the week before. It would go on to be the lowest selling number 1 of the decade and be knocked off the top spot by the first ever download only number 1. Plus it was my first ever personal chart number 1!
also think Beep is kinda meh, like Pussycat Dolls on automatic pilot... doesn't compare to Don't Cha
Eh, two quite non-essential girlgroup songs here. Have always hated Beep in particular Somewhat appropriate to the launch of Buzzjack that they were both in the top 5 though!
Beep is ok but not as good as their #1s that came before it

Biography
Orson was a Brit Award-winning American rock band from Hollywood, California, formed in 2000.
Originally the band called itself Halogen. Their self-financed first album, Bright Idea, released by Mercury Records in 2006, was produced in Los Angeles by Noah Shain and achieved chart success in the UK with the first single, "No Tomorrow". The album and single both debuted at number 1 (UK). Bright Idea went Platinum in the UK charts and has gone on to sell just under a million copies worldwide. - Wikipedia

Still love No Tomorrow!
I'd say I haven't heard the Orson song not even once in the last 10 years
No Tomorrow! If only Buzzjack had come into existence a week later, it'd have had an amazing birth #1. I play it so much.
No Tomorrow is quite a choon, shame Chico had to block it from #1.
No Tomorrow what a tune hope it goes #1 next week!
#1
Well what can be said about this awful novelty number 1? One of many things we can blame the X Factor for. A thankfully short career though. What time is it.....?
There will be a Suedehead Chart Commentary for this week available when the number one starts
ORSON Miss when songs like this could actually get to #1, what a track!
I completely forgot how good this was, real blast from the past
Have returned to 'No Tomorrow' quite a bit over the last decade <3. Can never decide if I prefer it to 'Bright Idea' or not - both still sound great.
No Tomorrow still sounds pretty good, not the most amazing song ever, but pretty decent...

Biography
Yousseph "Chico" Slimani (born 2 April 1971) is a British singer who rose to prominence in the United Kingdom after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2005 series of the talent show The X Factor. In 2006, he had a number one hit on the British charts entitled "It's Chico Time". In 2008, he appeared on the reality TV show CelebAir in which he placed third. - Wikipedia

oh my
really how could this go to #1!!!!!!!!
Chico iconic track.
don't recall this, but how come he was so popular if he lost in the quarterfinal sod XF???
I really love No Tomorrow, I never hear it these days but it's really great. Really didn't deserve that lowest weekly sales for a number 1 record.
Chico *.* I can't hate this, it's too iconic.
Total guilty pleasure and I'm not even sorry.
You can get delirious if you take life too seriousssssssss *.*
oh my.......
Omg what a finish lmao
I hope Orson make it next week. Even in the unlikely event they'll get there on the smallest no.1 sales in history, I don't care, I just hope they get there.
overall, 31-40 the best part of the top 40... some great songs, but some terrible ones and the #1 song probably the worst of them all together with Westlife
Chico Time is basically the precursor to Fleur's Sax!
*_*
That this even exists is just bizarre. Those lyrics are mad.
That aside, I think what this has most definitely proved is that the charts were a whole lot better 10 years ago, so many fantastic tunes in this lot. Thank you chart mods for organising this very well
I think Orson were a bit unlucky getting that record for lowest #1 ever... but I think it's more a reflection of the era, CD single sales dying, rather than the quality of the song
that's got to be one of the ridiculously novelty #1's ever~

really good chart week - sorry I was only here 4-5
Okay so the chart didn't quite maintain the high standards of the first few tracks but Corinne Bailey Rae was a nice reminder - plus who knew Placebo were still grabbing hits!
The less said about the #1 the better.
And here is the original thread from the past. The very first Sunday's chart show thread on Buzzjack 10 years ago

oh terrible sales in singles, but great in albums!
Thanks guys for hosting this! Was a really fun trip down memory lane.
I would like to thank all the chart mods who manage to maintain the quality of this forum and managed to improve from time to time (even if there are still some parts that don't work so well, but perfection is not existing).
Also a big thank you for the guys who took part to create this flashback (Jester, Gezza, Liamk97 and Suedehead), special thanks to Dan, who managed to show all 40 songs on dubtrack, making this chart show thread a living and live event!
And of course I'm glad that so many people joined the fun, on dubtrack and posted also here in the thread!
Thanks guys for hosting this
looking back I wonder how it even managed the top spot
not a big fan on the song though, other than its novelty tag.
Many thanks for posting this. It's been a very interesting read.
Happy 10th Birthday Buzzjack!
