Pillowtalk set to dethrone Stitches cheer.gif Though on the less fortunate side I'm guessing Sia won't quite get the #1 album, and Craig David will likely just miss the top 10 D:

Hello!!

As it hasn't been said yet here's a reminder that next week's chart will not be at the usual time. It will instead go from 2-4pm and be hosted by Scott Mills.

Really not looking forward to Zayn going to #1, it'll be my first time hearing it in full today but I have heard bits of it and it sounded not very good.

Biography - R3hab
Performing and recording under the name R3hab, EDM artist Fadil El Ghoul started his career in 2008 producing the track "Mrkrstft" for Hardwell. He teamed up with Hardwell once again in 2009 on the single "Blue Magic," and worked with Afrojack in 2011 on "Aces High (Prutata)." Later that year, and during 2012, he was commissioned to remix artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Katy Perry, and more. By this point he had accumulated a large discography, releasing material on many labels including Afrojack's Wall Recordings and the German label Tiger Records, but it was with Spinnin' Records that he developed the closest relationship. This eventually led to "Revolution," a 2013 collaboration with Nervo and Ummet Ozcan on the label that reached the Top 40 of the U.K. singles chart. I Need R3Hab, his weekly radio show on SiriusXM, subsequently gained in popularity, during a year that began with a third International Dance Music Award and ended with a Steve Aoki collaboration on the single "Flight." He subsequently garnered prestigious 2014 slots at Tomorrowland, Future Music, Creamfields, and Summerburst, and that same year he put out the 12" "Androids," "Flashlight" with Deorro, and "Ready for the Weekend," which were among some of his biggest-selling singles. - iTunes

Biography - Ciara
Dubbed early on as "the First Lady of Crunk & B" by the producer who knew, Lil Jon, singer Ciara was born in Austin, Texas, but with her father in the Army, she spent time living in Germany, New York, California, Arizona, and Nevada before landing in Atlanta, Georgia. In her early teens, she got a piece of paper out and wrote down her life's goal, to become a professional singer. She joined a girl group, worked on her songwriting, left the group, landed a publishing deal, and found a "music soul mate" when she met producer Jazze Pha. With Sean Garrett, the co-writer of Usher's massive hit "Yeah!," Ciara co-wrote "Goodies," and when Lil Jon heard the demo, he knew it was going to be big. LaFace released the Lil Jon-produced track in the summer of 2004, and its quick climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 was remarkable. With help from Pha, Garrett, and Lil Jon, Ciara released her self-titled debut in September of the same year. The follow-up singles "1, 2 Step," featuring Missy Elliott, and "Oh," featuring Ludacris, both broke the Top Five in the U.S. in 2005. By the end of the year she'd joined Gwen Stefani on tour before teaming with Bow Wow and Chris Brown for a package tour in early 2006. While Ciara's popularity had already peaked, she gradually built a sturdy discography and churned out major hit singles on an occasional basis. The Evolution, her second album, was released in December 2006. Though it debuted at the top of Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and a handful of subsequent singles ("Get Up," "Promise," "Like a Boy") placed within the Top 20 of the publication's Hot 100, it did not perform quite as well as the debut. The May 2009 release of Fantasy Ride, her third album, was preceded by a few delays, including a pre-release single that failed to catch fire. Fantasy Ride was, nonetheless, her most star-studded album to date, with Elliott and Ludacris, as well as the-Dream, Young Jeezy, Chris Brown, and Justin Timberlake as passengers. Collaborating with the-Dream developed into the album Basic Instinct, released in December 2010 and featuring the-Dream and associate Christopher "Tricky" Stewart as executive producers. It was her first album to peak outside the Top 10 of the R&B/Hip-Hop album chart. For her self-titled fifth album, released in July 2013, she reconnected with LaFace co-founder L.A. Reid and moved to the Epic label. Thanks to the certified gold single "Body Party," it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. An engagement to collaborator Future, the birth of the couple's son, and the couple's split all occurred prior to the May 2015 release of Jackie, Ciara's sixth album, named after her mother. - iTunes

Biography
London-based singer/songwriter Lewis Watson got his start in music while still a teenager by quietly uploading cover versions of his favorite songs to a sleepy YouTube account in 2010. The singer's spare acoustic guitar complemented his booming and slightly soulful voice on covers of tunes by the Knife, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bon Iver, and others, and before long he was uploading his own original compositions to great response. Watson began playing out in support of larger acts, and after a gig with his former music teacher Joe Porter, Porter offered up his production services in the recording of Watson's first studio material. The speedy sessions yielded four songs that were eventually released as the cheekily titled EP It's Got Four Sad Songs on It BTW. The buzz surrounding the 2012 release of the EP was enough to have numerous record labels knocking on Watson's door, eventually landing him a contract with Warner Bros. and hurling him into the world of festival performances, Billboard charts, and an ever-growing fan base. Response was so strong to the first EP that a second, Another Four Sad Songs, followed just months afterwards. Things moved quickly and Watson worked tirelessly on a third EP, this time aided by big-ticket songwriters and producers including Richard Wilkinson (Kaiser Chiefs), Mr. Hudson, and collaborators of Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine, and many others. In early 2013 this third EP, Wild, was released. It, too, contained four sad songs, but revealed a heightened confidence and glossier production values than Watson's first two releases. Two more EPs followed in 2013, and Watson's debut full-length album, The Morning, was finally scheduled for release in July of the following year, boasting a much more full-bodied production than before; it also came in a Deluxe Edition that contained every song Watson had ever released. - iTunes

Biography
Canadian pop-R&B singer and songwriter Alessia Cara (full last name: Caracciolo) made her recorded debut in 2015, though she started racking up YouTube views -- with acoustic covers of popular songs across several genres -- four years earlier. Upon graduating from high school in her native Brampton, a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, Cara opted to devote a year to music rather than go straight to college. She continued to upload YouTube clips regularly and landed a major-label recording contract with Def Jam. Matched up with Andrew "Pop" Wansel, Warren "Oak" Felder, and Coleridge Tillman, a trio of songwriters and producers with dozens of R&B and pop hits between them, Cara co-wrote and recorded the distinctive wallflower anthem "Here" and had the song released as a single in May 2015. Featuring a sample of Isaac Hayes' "Ike's Rap II," previously utilized by Portishead for "Glory Box" and by Tricky for "Hell Is Round the Corner," its streams numbered in the millions prior to the premiere of its official video. A five-track EP, Four Pink Walls, arrived that August, and the full-length Know It All followed three months later. - iTunes

Biography
France's David Guetta belongs to the sparkling wave of DJs who combine Daft Punk's sleek house music with a pinch of electroclash's punch. Guetta had been DJ'ing around France playing popular tunes, but his brain was particularly rewired in 1987 when he heard a Farley Jackmaster Funk track on French radio. He taped the track, brought a copy to a gig, and promptly cleared the floor with it during one of his own sets. Things loosened up a year later when acid house came to France and Guetta successfully promoted his own club nights. It was during one of those nights in 1992 that he met Robert Owens, a Chicago-based house legend who was touring across Europe at the time. Guetta played Owens some of his own tracks, and Owens picked one he liked enough to sing over. The result was "Up and Away," a minor hit that lurked in garage DJ crates for the next four years. Guetta's carefree attitude -- that he only produces good music while he's having casual fun -- kept the DJ from releasing anything until 2001's "Just a Little More Love." The track featured American gospel singer Chris Willis, who met Guetta while on vacation in France. Another slow burner, "Just a Little More Love," kept popping up in sets for the next two years, first in an electro version and later in a pumped-up Wally Lopez remix. During this time, Guetta snuck out a bootleg remix of David Bowie's "Heroes," retitled "Just for One Day." Bowie gave the go-ahead to release the track officially, and Guetta soon had a massive hit on his hands. Guetta featured the liberated boot on his first mix CD, f*** Me I'm Famous, named after Guetta's successful Ibiza-based party. The fun-loving slacker DJ finally got around to releasing a collection of his own productions in 2004, Just a Little More Love on Astralwerks. Guetta Blaster arrived that same year, followed by Poplife in 2007. Chris Willis sang lead vocals on the latter album, which spun off multiple dance singles in multiple countries. f*** Me I'm Famous: International, Vol. 2 was then released in July 2008, giving listeners a taste of the stylish sounds that orchestrated Guetta's summer club events in Ibiza. A year later he released One Love, a platinum-selling album featuring the singles "When Love Takes Over" with Kelly Rowland, "Sexy Bitch" with Akon, and "Gettin' Over" with Chris Willis. In 2010, Guetta received five nominations at the 52nd Grammy Awards, two of them related to the One Love album and the other three for his work on the Black Eyed Peas' massive worldwide hit "I Gotta Feeling." That same year, One Love was reissued as One More Love, featuring a bonus disc of remixes and new tracks. A superstar guest list -- featuring Akon, Lil Wayne, Flo Rida, Usher, Chris Brown, and others -- would figure into his 2011 release, Nothing But the Beat, but this time the DJ's songwriting was inspired by dramatic rock bands like Coldplay. In 2014, Guetta released three singles on his own Jack Back label, all of which were rounded up on that year's Lovers on the Sun EP. Later that year Guetta released his sixth studio album, Listen. Perhaps as a reaction to inadvertently finding himself a sort of unofficial godfather to the burgeoning EDM movement, the album saw him branching out of his electro-house comfort zone, experimenting with elements of hip-hop, alternative rock, R&B, and acoustic instrumentation, and featuring guest artists as diverse as Emeli Sandé, Sia, the Script, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. - iTunes

ahh don't tell me 'Stay' has peaked already sad.gif though top 20 is great for Kygo.

good to see 'Army' and 'One Call Away' still outside the top 25, I don't want them to get full plays on this show (as for 'One Call Away' though, that really deserved to miss the top 40 entirely, shame it didn't)

Lol at 'Chandelier' back when her none of her singles from her new album are.

I'm so, so pleased that One Call Away made the top 40, eventually. I don't know why it was supported by Radio 2 and Radio 1/Capital at totally different times, but it's head and shoulders above anything else Charlie has done, so yay him!

Drake getting a full chart play *_*

I can't see this sticking around for long though.

Posted by: mr_pmt 5th February 2016, 04:16 PM

I'm not overly fond of this Drake song, but at least it's not a horrendously annoying piece of monotony like 'Hotline Bling' is.

This is absolutely horrific on first listen sick2.gif

Posted by: Joe. 5th February 2016, 04:17 PM

I don't like this Drake song, but I'm very impressed that he can chart at 23 with an OA release without putting the song on Spotify

Posted by: Cameron 5th February 2016, 04:17 PM

Hate to sound negative, but a part of me doesn't think Drake has talent, at all.

Posted by: N-S 5th February 2016, 04:17 PM

This Drake era is beyond terrible.

I can't believe this is the same Drake of Over, Find Your Love, Take Care and Hold On We're Going Home

Posted by: Taylor Jago 5th February 2016, 04:18 PM

If this becomes a hit it will become worse than "Hotline Bling".

Posted by: Bjork 5th February 2016, 04:18 PM

kinda like it but loved Hotline Bling too

I do think 'Summer Sixteen' is only doing so well initially because it's coming off the back of 'Hotline Bling'. Remember that song took a few weeks to get going, but now Drake is very much in the forefront of music consumers' minds.

Summer Sixteen sounding like the sort of Drake I can potentially get on board with - not as horrific as Hotline Bling was. That's a good start if it does hang around.

Biography
Singer and songwriter (and occasional actor) Elle King was born Tanner Elle Schneider in 1989 in Los Angeles, the daughter of London King and Rob Schneider (the actor and comedian and former cast member of Saturday Night Live). She grew up in Ohio, and after hearing the all-girl pop-punk band the Donnas when she was nine years old, she decided she wanted to be a singer and musician. By 13 she was playing guitar, and later learned to play the banjo as well. King began street busking and gigging around New York at the age of 16, moving to Philadelphia to attend the University of Arts, majoring in painting and film. After college she spent time in Copenhagen and Los Angeles before returning to New York to settle in Brooklyn. Signing to RCA Records, she released a debut four-song EP, The Elle King EP, in 2012. In 2015 King released her debut album, Love Stuff, featuring the single "Ex's & Oh's," which reached the top of Billboard's Alternative Songs chart. - iTunes

Biography
Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. After they formed under the name Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the group as a bassist and they changed their name to Starfish. Will Champion joined as a drummer, backing vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, completing the line-up. Manager Phil Harvey is often considered an unofficial fifth member. The band renamed themselves "Coldplay" in 1998, before recording and releasing three EPs; Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999 and The Blue Room in the same year. The latter was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone.

They achieved worldwide fame with the release of the single "Yellow" in 2000, followed by their debut album released in the same year, Parachutes, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), was released to critical acclaim and won multiple awards, including NME's Album of the Year. They have also come top of the BBC Radio 2 poll of the favourite album of all time. Their next release, X&Y, the best-selling album worldwide in 2005, was met with mostly positive reviews upon its release, though some critics felt that it was inferior to its predecessor. The band's fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), was produced by Brian Eno and released again to largely positive reviews, earning several Grammy nominations and wins at the 51st Grammy Awards. On 24 October 2011, they released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which received mixed to positive reviews, topped the charts in over 34 countries, and was the UK's best-selling rock album of 2011.

The band have won a number of music awards throughout their career, including eight Brit Awards—winning Best British Group three times—five MTV Video Music Awards and seven Grammy Awards from 25 nominations. Coldplay have sold more than 80 million records worldwide. In December 2009, Rolling Stone readers voted the group the fourth-best artist of the 2000s. Coldplay have been an active supporter of various social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group have also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, The Secret Policeman's Ball, Sport Relief and the UK's Teenage Cancer Trust.

Lush Life is fairly good. I've always been a bit apprehensive with Zara after Uncover got boring very very quickly for me and little else I heard was that good, but she's redeemed herself with Never Forget You and it's great to see a Swedish popstar make some traction in the UK anyway.

Adventure Of A Lifetime sounding as wonderful as ever.

Biography
With a knack for finding new angles to tried-and-true R&B trends, Jason Derulo launched his career while still in his teens, first as a songwriter for other artists and later as a solo performer. Born to Haitian parents in Miramar, Florida, he started singing at an early age. He attended performing arts schools in Florida and took some early stabs at music composition, writing his first song at the age of eight. His writing skills began attracting attention, and by his teenage years, Derulo had begun composing tracks for artists like Lil Wayne, Pitbull, and Pleasure P. He also wrote "Bossy" for Birdman, a New Orleans-based rapper, and made a guest appearance on the song, highlighting his ability as a vocalist.

After signing to a subsidiary of Warner Bros., Derulo began making the transition from behind-the-scenes songwriter to mainstream performer. His first hit arrived during the summer of 2009, when he wrapped a sample of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" (a song made popular by its appearance in the second season finale of The O.C., as well as the Saturday Night Live sketch Dear Sister) around a sleek modern soul beat. Titled "Whatcha Say," the song topped the Billboard charts and cracked the Top Ten in multiple foreign countries, including Canada, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K. A second single, "In My Head," peaked at number five in America, and Derulo's full-length debut album arrived in early 2010. Future History followed in 2011, along with its hit single "Don't Wanna Go Home."

At the start of 2012, he embarked on the Future History Tour, but broke one of his vertebrae during rehearsals. As a result of his neck injury, he canceled the entire tour. Recuperating and reflecting upon his injury, he announced details of his new album and released the single "The Other Side" in April 2013. Derulo's follow-up, "Talk Dirty," featuring 2 Chainz, shot to number three on the pop chart during the summer of 2013, and the album Tattoos was released in September in most territories. The U.S. received a retooled version of the album in 2014 titled Talk Dirty. It featured several new tracks, including "Wiggle" featuring Snoop Dogg, which reached the Top Ten in the summer of 2014. With guest spots from Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and others, Everything Is 4 followed in 2015. The album featured the Top 10 single "Want to Want Me" and coincided with Derulo's new job as judge on the 12th season of So You Think You Can Dance.

Biography
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins MBE (/əˈdɛl/; born 5 May 1988) is a British singer and songwriter. Graduating from the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in 2006, Adele was given a recording contract by XL Recordings after a friend posted her demo on Myspace the same year. In 2007, she received the Brit Awards "Critics' Choice" award and won the BBC Sound of 2008. Her debut album, 19, was released in 2008 to commercial and critical success. It is certified four times platinum in the UK, and double platinum in the U.S. An appearance she made on Saturday Night Live in late 2008 boosted her career in the U.S. At the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, Adele received the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Adele released her second studio album, 21, in early 2011. The album was well received critically and surpassed the success of her debut, earning the singer numerous awards in 2012, including a record-tying six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year; two Brit Awards, including British Album of the Year, and three American Music Awards. The album has been certified 16 times platinum in the UK, and is the fourth best-selling album in the UK of all time. In the U.S. it has held the top position longer than any album since 1985, and is certified Diamond. The album has sold 30 million copies worldwide.

The success of 21 earned Adele numerous mentions in the Guinness Book of World Records. She is the first woman in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have three simultaneous top 10 singles as a lead artist, and the first female artist to simultaneously have two albums in the top five of the Billboard 200 and two singles in the top five of the Billboard Hot 100. 21 is the longest running number one album by a female solo artist in the history of the UK and U.S. Album Charts. In 2011 and 2012, Billboard named Adele Artist of the Year.

In 2012, Adele was listed at number five on VH1's 100 Greatest Women in Music, and Time magazine named her one of the most influential people in the world. In 2013, she received an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for her song "Skyfall", which she wrote and composed for the James Bond film of the same name. Adele's third studio album, 25, will be released on 20 November 2015.

Biography
Justin Drew Bieber (/ˈbiːbər/; born March 1, 1994) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Bieber's current manager, Scooter Braun, first discovered him through his YouTube videos in 2007. Braun, as noted, was impressed with the videos resulting in contacting Bieber's mother, Patricia Mallette, about wanting to work with his musical abilities. Moreover, him having convinced his mother, Braun arranged for Bieber to meet with singer-songwriter, Usher, in Atlanta, Georgia. As a result, Bieber was signed to RBMG, a record label based in Atlanta, then to Island Records -- part of Def Jam Records -- with a recording contract offered by a prominent record executive, L.A. Reid.

He released his debut EP, My World, in November 2009. It has been certified platinum in the United States. He became the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Bieber released his first full-length studio album, My World 2.0, in March 2010. It debuted at or near number one in several countries and was certified platinum in the United States. It was preceded by the single, "Baby", which is also, as of July 2014, the YouTube video with the most dislikes, and the most views on a Vevo platform. He followed up the release of his debut album with his first headlining tour, the My World Tour, the remix album titled, My Worlds Acoustic, and Never Say Never – The Remixes, and the 3D biopic-concert film Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Bieber released his second studio album, Under the Mistletoe, in November 2011 when it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Bieber released his third studio album, Believe, in June 2012.

He has received numerous industry awards, including both Artist of the Year Awards at the 2010 American Music Awards, and the 2012 American Music Awards. He has been nominated for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 53rd Grammy Awards. With his growing national and international fan base, they have been dubbed "beliebers" who largely consist of early to mid-adolescent women. He has millions of "followers" on Twitter and other social media accounts. He has been listed three times by Forbes magazine as one of the top ten most powerful celebrities in the world in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Do you remember, the 4th day of September? What Do You Mean arrived in the top 10, and now it's finally gone away kink.gif sad.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt 5th February 2016, 04:56 PM

Aww, I kind of wanted it to get a week at #9 and #10 for statistical reasons.

Aside from that, it has long outstayed its welcome by now.

Biography
Major Lazer is an electronic music project created by American DJ and record producer Diplo initially collaborating with English DJ/producer Switch. The two parted ways in late 2011. Diplo has since enlisted producers/DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire (of Black Chiney) to help with the production and live shows. Their music spans numerous genres, usually fusing reggae and dancehall music with dance genres such as moombahton and electro house.

Major Lazer have released two full length albums – Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do and Free the Universe, released in 2009 and 2013 respectively. They released an EP entitled Apocalypse Soon in March 2014, which featured vocal contributions from Pharrell Williams and Sean Paul. Major Lazer also produced Reincarnated, the debut reggae album by Snoop Dogg under his Snoop Lion persona.

Biography
Little Mix (formerly known as Rhythmix) is an English girl group formed in 2011, consisting of members Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson. They were formed exclusively for the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011 and became the first group to win the competition. Following their victory, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music and released a cover of Damien Rice's "Cannonball" as their winner's single.

Little Mix released their debut album DNA on 19 November 2012. It charted in the top 5 in eight countries, including number two in the UK and number four on the US Billboard 200. This made Little Mix the first girl group since The Pussycat Dolls to reach the U.S. top 5 with their debut album, as well as earning the highest debut U.S. chart position by a British girl group, breaking the record previously held by the Spice Girls, whose 1996 debut Spice charted at number five. As of December 2014, Little Mix have sold over 7.5 million records worldwide.

I absolutely love Secret Love Song, but I'm glad it's not top 10, because they made the video UK-only mad.gif because it gives it less of a chance of surpassing Black Magic's top 10 weeks and because that means When The Bassline Drops has made the top 10 (I don't really like When The Bassline Drops but this was its last chance, Secret Love Song has a long top 10 run ahead).

Yay! I love Little Mix and this song but Craig David top ten in 2016 is just TOO iconic *.* What a song!

I still think it was a crying shame Insomnia didn't make the top 40 back in the day.

With Don't Be So Hard On Yourself dropping out and Take Me Home looking likely to follow suit, will we get three consecutive weeks without any Jess Glynne songs in the top 40 for the first time since Rather Be entered at #1?

Biography
One Direction (commonly abbreviated as 1D) are an English-Irish pop boy band based in London, composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. Previously, Zayn Malik was a member until his departure from the band on 25 March 2015. The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after forming and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor in 2010. Propelled to international success by social media, One Direction's four albums, Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013) and Four (2014) topped charts in most major markets, and generated hit singles including "What Makes You Beautiful", "Live While We're Young", "Story of My Life" and "Steal My Girl".

Their achievements include five Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, eleven MTV Europe Music Awards, and nineteen Teen Choice Awards out of nineteen nominations, among many others. According to Nick Gatfield, the chairman and chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment UK, One Direction represented a $50 million business empire by June 2012. They were proclaimed 2012's "Top New Artist" by Billboard. According to the Sunday Times Rich List, by April 2013, they had an estimated personal combined wealth of £25 million ($41.2m) making them the second-wealthiest musicians in the UK under 30 years of age. In 2014, Forbes listed them the second-highest earning celebrities under 30, with the group earning an estimated $75 million from June 2013 to June 2014.

After the release of Four, One Direction became the first band in the U.S. Billboard 200 history to have their first four albums debut at number one. Their third album, Midnight Memories, was the biggest-selling album worldwide of 2013 despite being released in late November. In 2014, Billboard named One Direction Artist of the Year

Biography
Snakehips are left-field downtempo synthesists of several genres, including rap, electronic, and a little R&B. The U.K. producers, Oliver Lee and James Carter, gained gradual notice across 2012, 2013, and 2014 with remixes of tracks by Willie Hale ("Groove On"), Wild Belle ("It's Too Late"), Bondax ("Gold"), Banks ("Warm Water"), and the Weeknd ("Wanderlust"). They also released a couple of their own light and shimmering singles. The first proper Snakehips release, 2013's "On & On" -- featuring Australian singer/songwriter George Maple -- was released on Hoffman West as a 12" limited to 250 copies and as a digital download. The bouncier second single, 2014's "Days with You," was fronted by Sinead Harnett (Disclosure's "Boiling," Rudimental's "Hide" and "Baby"). - iTunes

I did expect it though, or to maybe fall out of the top 10. Their last album went 10-40.

I'm a little bit peeved about Sia being just #3 in the end, although I know that's still a good result.

This Is Acting is at #3 sad.gif

On the brightside, this means David Bowie has become the first to knock himself off number one in the Album Chart since The Essential Michael Jackson knocked Number Ones (also by Michael Jackson) off number one in 2009. He's also the first artist since Adele (with 21 and 19) to occupy both #1 and #2 in the album chart.

Biography
From the free-living enclave of Christiania in Copenhagen, Lukas Graham and his boys -- Mark "Lovestick" Falgren on drums, Kasper Daugaard on keys, and Magnus "Magnum" Larsson on bass -- crafted a combination of funky pop and R&B stylings, which made them popular in their home country of Denmark. With his soulful delivery and honest lyrics, Graham recounted tales of family strife, poor decisions, and the celebration of life, all inextricably entwined with his years spent in Christiania. The young Graham's musical influences ranged from classical -- gained during his childhood experiences with the Copenhagen Boys' Choir -- to the Beatles and the Stones, as well as the Prodigy and Dr. Dre, whose Chronic 2001 was one of the most influential albums for Graham. Despite a less-privileged childhood, his parents were strong role models and much of that love was reflected in his heartfelt songs, like "Mama Said," "7 Years," and "Moving Alone." In early 2012, he released his first album, a self-titled effort that included "Drunk in the Morning," which went on to become a hit throughout Europe. Once they received more international exposure, they were signed to Warner Bros. Records in 2013. A second self-titled album -- nicknamed the "Blue Album" -- was released in late 2015. - iTunes

Bit worried about Lukas Graham's dad trying to marry off his 11-year-old son, TBH.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 5th February 2016, 05:25 PM

I guess I'm gonna have to get used to 7 Years then~

It's fairly pleasant at best but not something I'd choose to listen to at all and the lyrics are so annoyingly convoluted and overly sentimental.

It has just been put of Spotify and the CD released, I expect her to be top 3 this week maybe even #1 if her streaming numbers are as big as I expect them to be.

Whilst I probably would have agreed with you at the beginning of last week it seemed to lose some ground on Wed and Thu when it became available on CD at some outlets.

2-5 actually seems like a massive nosedive down the chart after weeks on end of staying at #1 or moving 1 place at a time.

Biography
Rihanna established her dance-pop credentials in summer 2005 with her debut smash hit, "Pon de Replay," and continued to demonstrate hit potential in subsequent years (e.g., "S.O.S." in 2006; "Umbrella" in 2007; "Disturbia" in 2008). However, it was the singer's third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, that made her a full-fledged international pop star with a regular presence atop the charts. Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados, she exhibited a certain star quality as a young child, often winning beauty and talent contests. Because she lived on the fairly remote island of Barbados in the West Indies, however, she never foresaw the sort of stardom she would later attain. That stardom came courtesy of a fateful meeting with Evan Rogers. The New Yorker was vacationing in Barbados with his wife, a native of the island, when he was introduced to Rihanna. Rogers had spent years producing pop hits for such superstars as *NSYNC, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, Laura Pausini, and Rod Stewart, and he offered the talented Rihanna a chance to record. Along with Rogers' production partner, Carl Sturken (the other half of Syndicated Rhythm Productions), Rihanna recorded several demos that sparked the interest of the Carter Administration -- that is, the newly appointed Def Jam president Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter. This led to an audition, and Rihanna both received and accepted an on-the-spot offer to sign with Def Jam. Come summer 2005, Def Jam rolled out "Pon de Replay," the lively leadoff single from Music of the Sun. Produced almost entirely by Rogers and Sturken, the song synthesized Caribbean rhythms with urban-pop songwriting. "Pon de Replay" caught fire almost immediately, climbing all the way to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and contesting the half-summer reign of Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" atop the chart. The debut album spawned one other hit, "If It's Lovin' That You Want," which also broke the Top 40. Rihanna's follow-up effort, A Girl Like Me, saw even greater success and spawned three sizable singles: a chart-topper ("S.O.S.") and two Top Ten hits ("Unfaithful," "Break It Off"). Rihanna's third album, 2007's Good Girl Gone Bad, continued her success while signaling a change of direction. Whereas her past two albums had been imbalanced -- often weighed down by faceless balladry and canned Caribbean-isms -- Good Girl Gone Bad was a first-rate dance-pop album, stacked with several chart-topping singles and boasting collaborations with Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Timbaland, and StarGate. The lead single, "Umbrella," shot to number one, as did "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia." Its success turned Rihanna into one of the planet's biggest pop stars. Rated R was released in 2009 during the wake of a physical altercation with romantic interest Chris Brown, who pleaded guilty to felony assault. The album's lead single, "Russian Roulette" -- written with Ne-Yo -- was one of the year's most controversial singles, and it set the tone for the singer's new, dark direction. Rated R peaked within the Top Five of the Billboard 200, while another one of its singles, "Rude Boy," topped the Hot 100. Rated R: Remixed was released in the spring of 2010 and featured ten tracks from the album revamped for the dancefloor by Chew Fu. Loud, Rihanna's fifth studio album, followed in November and was led by the StarGate-produced "Only Girl (In the World)." That song, as well as the follow-up singles "What's My Name?" and "S&M," all topped the Billboard Hot 100. In November 2011, shortly after Loud's "Cheers (Drink to That)" entered the Top Ten, the singer released Talk That Talk. The single "We Found Love" with Calvin Harris earned the top spot in the Hot 100, and the album peaked at number three. Unapologetic, Rihanna's seventh studio album, featured some of her brashest material and was led by "Diamonds" -- her 18th Top Ten single. Unapologetic became her first number one album, and eventually produced further Top Ten hits in "Stay" and "Jump." By the fall of 2013, another record had fallen: her feature on Eminem's "The Monster" helped it hit number one on the pop charts, tying her with Michael Jackson for the most chart-toppers in Billboard chart history. The song won a Grammy Award in the category of Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. In early 2015, Rihanna released "FourFiveSeconds," a stripped-down single featuring the unlikely duo of Kanye West and Paul McCartney. It topped the Hot 100 and was followed by the cruder "Bitch Better Have My Money," which led the way to Anti several months later. - iTunes

Biography
A teen pop artist who broke records with his debut single, singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. After posting a series of his cover versions to various video-sharing sites, Mendes earned himself a dedicated following of viewers. His mix of Ed Sheeran's style and Justin Bieber's also appealed to Island Records, who signed Mendes in 2014. That same year they released the then-15-year-old's debut single "Life of the Party." American radio initially ignored it, but the track entered the Billboard 100 singles chart at number 24, making Mendes the youngest artist to land a debut single in the Top 25. The song was also included on Mendes' four-track Island debut, The Shawn Mendes EP. The EP performed very well, reaching number five on the Billboard charts on its way toward sales of over 100,000, setting the stage for his full-length debut, Handwritten, in the spring of 2015. Preceded by the single "Something Big," Handwritten appeared to strong sales, debuting at number one in both Canada and the U.S. In 2015, his single "Believe" landed on the soundtrack for the Disney Channel fantasy musical Descendants. - iTunes

Biography
Up-and-coming, London based producer, Jonas Blue is releasing a dramatic reimaging of Tracy Chapman’s classic song ‘Fast Car’. Teaming up with, incredible young vocal talent, Dakota, Blue has swapped the original’s lilting guitar for an upbeat tropical house sound.

21 year old Jonas Blue has been busy perfecting his craft as a producer, spending time collaborating in studios in L.A, Stockholm and London. Blue takes his musical cues from pop and classic dance music, as well as from the Tropical House sounds of producers such as Felix Jaehn, Lost Frequencies and Kygo.

His latest single came about when he had the idea to recreate one of his mother’s favourite songs that he remembered hearing on repeat as a child. Crafting the music came naturally to him but the difficult part was finding a voice who had the richness and depth that made the original so special.

On an autumn night in an East London pub however, Jonas heard a unique, bluesy voice coming from the basement. He immediately knew he'd found the singer for his version of Tracey Chapman's classic 'Fast Car', that singer was Dakota. The very next day she was in the studio with him to record the song, and the results were just as he'd hoped for.

I can't see one good characteristic in this version of 'Fast Car'. The vocals have no passion, the production is cheap and bargain basement. The synths are ridiculously annoying too.

Biography
Nina Nesbitt forced her way into the music industry at the tender age of 17 after a chance encounter and on-the-spot performance of her song "Standing on One Leg" for pop sensation Ed Sheeran in 2011, which led to support slots and an on-stage cameo with him during his nationwide tour. The half-Scottish, half-Swedish singer/songwriter had originally wanted to be an author, and eventually used this talent to set her short stories to the music she wrote on her piano and later, acoustic guitar. At 16 she began performing in her hometown of Edinburgh, and created a YouTube channel where she posted a mixture of original songs and covers. Her interesting version of Example's "Stay Awake" was heard by the U.K. rapper and he subsequently invited Nesbitt to complete his U.K. tour with him. Despite increased label interest on the back of her performances with Sheeran, alongside a BBC Radio 1 live session, Nesbitt fought off their advances to go it alone and form her own fan base. Nesbitt's exuberant mixture of pop-inspired melodies and brooding teen angst dealt with the youthful themes of boys, growing up, and heartbreak, sung in her sweet Scottish brogue. She had been cast as the female counterpart to Sheeran; however, Nesbitt carved out her own identity with her feisty folk-pop EP The Apple Tree in 2012 after eventually signing with Universal, and a year later she released the U.K. Top 75 single "Stay Out." In 2014, Nesbitt released her full-length, debut album, Peroxide, which featured songs off her previous EPs as well as new material. - iTunes

Well ZAYN is a decent number 1 after Stitches so glad to see that happen. PILLOWTALK is quite a good song, feels a bit more...edgy than the standard pop song so good to see that. Shame Fast Car doesn't look like making it now that Lukas Graham thing will dominate for months it seems :/

It reminds me of that horror dance version someone made of Alanis Morissette's Univited a few years ago, just no.

Posted by: Bjork 5th February 2016, 05:45 PM

congrats to him and his PR team to achieve such a big #1 with a song that is ok-ish at best and comes with very weak vocals ala Enrique Iglesias, hopes he has better songs coming...

'Pillowtalk' is decent and I like the production, but I can't help but feel the attempt to make it seem "sexy" is a bit forced/contrived.

I dont know why people are fuming about Zayn being number 1, I thought it was a total given, hes riding on the hype of ONE D its still a shit song, but he has a massive fanbase and thats all you need, it doesnt matter about the music anymore. As for fast car, nobody shouldve went there, tracey chapman is the only one to do it justice not even Mutya Buena could recreate such a fantastic song, some things should just be left.

Good to see Secret Love song and Work doing well.

Dakota was the title of the Stereophonics's only number one single. It is also the name of the vocalist on Fast Car, which currently has peaked at #2.
King is the name of a band had a #2 with Love & Pride in 1985. It is also the title of Years & Years' number one single King.

Both Dakota and King are in my top 12 favourite songs of all-time.

Subsequently, if Dakota never makes it to number one, she will become the second artist to have come one place short of getting a number one whose name is also the title of a number one single in my top 12 favourite songs of all-time. Unless there's a band called Read All About It or Ashes To Ashes whose biggest hit peaked at that position, of course.

Wow Alan Walker is only 18?!

Really happy at the #1, got there in the nick of time too it seems with Lukas Graham on the march.

In fact a brilliant top 10 all round this week, all 4 additions are very good, Craig David being the highlight!
