Here is the thread for discussing the upcoming 2014/15 season of League Two football!

I'll hopefully make this post a bit more pretty like the Premier League and Championship ones in the next few days but just in case I don't get the chance, here's the thread anyway!

Like always it will be very close again. Can honestly see about half of the league in chance with promotion, and half of the league in with a chance of relegation. It's going to be another bizarre season.

Portsmouth looked like they had finally got their act together towards the end of last season so they must have a very good chance of going up. Having finally got their League place back I can see Luton challenging for promotion as well.

Looks like you could be right about Portsmouth, very good start for them so far with 10 points out of 12. I actually fancied Oxford for promotion but they've lost all 4 so far! laugh.gif Obviously it's early days though of course. I'd love to see Burton finally go up though, they've had a good start and have been around the top for quite a few seasons now I think.

Oxford will be lucky to stay in the league.

It has been a disappointing start for Carlisle United in League 2. I was hoping for a better start, got rid of Kavanagh. Need a new manager preferably before the loan window (if it hasn't already) closes.

Chris Wilder to come back and get a massive bonus for staying up like he did when he left for Northampton last year? tongue.gif

Always good to see a discussion on lower league football.

Oxford would be in dream world! Like I said earlier, they're really going to struggle this year, and so far looks like they are!

Neil McDonald has withdrawn from the list of possibles at Carlisle, currently Keith Curle is looking likely.

Also of note, after Beattie's departure from Accrington Stanley, John Coleman has returned for a second spell.

BUMP:

Andy Awford has left his post as Portsmouth manager.

No surprise really, they've comfortably one of the biggest budgets in the league and they're complete mid-table fodder.

I think this is the first season in quite a long time where none of the current teams at the bottom end of the league actually WANT to survive! Normally it's the complete opposite laugh.gif

In the League Two play-offs we have:

Plymouth Argyle v Wycombe Wanderers
Stevenage v Southend

Who do people think will prevail in the play-offs?

Posted by: steve201 May 4 2015, 12:06 PM

Stevenage or Wycombe for me!

Posted by: Mack May 4 2015, 12:09 PM

Stevenage for me.

Posted by: Flatcap May 4 2015, 06:50 PM

I am hoping for Wycombe, a friend of mine supports that club. Hoping to keep Southend and Stevenage because Carlisle could pay a visit there and I can see them in action hopefully.

Posted by: Rooney May 4 2015, 06:53 PM

Expecting Southend to go up. Not really fussed either way who goes up though!

Posted by: ML Hammer95 May 4 2015, 07:19 PM

Would like to see Plymouth go up. Good to see they've stabilised a fair bit since the turmoil a few years ago.

Posted by: Suedehead2 May 4 2015, 09:30 PM

I was born just a few miles from Sarfend, so I'd like to see them go up.

Posted by: Mack May 10 2015, 10:32 AM

Wycombe took a one-goal lead last night with a 3-2 win against Plymouth.

Stevenage v Southend tonight with a kick-off at a slightly strange time of 18:35 something with Sky Sports possibly there.

Posted by: Mack May 13 2015, 08:31 PM

Tomorrow night sees the second leg in the play-off semi-finals with:

Wycombe taking a one-goal lead into the second leg against Plymouth and Southend and Stevange level pegging.

Do you think will prevail in the second leg?

Posted by: Mack May 15 2015, 11:28 AM

So it's Southend and Wycombe both in the play-off final.

Who do people think or want to win?

Posted by: Suedehead2 May 15 2015, 02:02 PM

As I was born near Southend, I have to go for them biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mack May 20 2015, 06:59 PM

Hoping for a Southend win. I think it will be 2-1 to them.

Posted by: Mack May 21 2015, 07:41 PM

Stevenage have appointed Teddy Sheringham as their new manager.

Posted by: steve201 May 22 2015, 08:31 AM

They were quick to take a risk after missing out on promotion. Was amazing Dave Beasant was still on thier books at 56 and was the sub keeper against Southend the other week, gutted he couldnt appear at wembly again!

Posted by: Mack May 24 2015, 09:28 AM

Southend get promoted after winning on penalties yesterday. Did the right team win in your opinion?

Posted by: Josh. May 24 2015, 09:50 AM

I'm glad with that result, Southend would've been my choice even though Wycombe is a local-ish team. I have an odd liking to Southend..

Posted by: Flatcap May 24 2015, 10:55 AM

Southend have been a strong team in that division for a few seasons now so yes the right team for me went up.

I am disappointed for Wycombe to come so close again yet fail at the last hurdle twice near the end. It must be hard to cope with. However, I do think that compared to last season (relegation escape) this has been an excellent season. I had them down to be scrapping it out near the bottom, not fighting to gain promotion. Hopefully Wycombe will be facing a battle at the same end of the table next season with (I hope) Carlisle United. Yes, I had to mention my team in this post somewhere.

The league is so tight, there is literally nothing between about 20 teams. This season Shrewsbury were above the rest, but aside from Cheltenham and Tranmere, everyone else was near enough the same. I mean look at Tranmere, and their massive flight this year. On your day you could beat anybody. I think next season will be even worse. Apart from Notts County, I can't see any of the relegated teams from League 1 going straight back up, and no current team in the division apart from maybe Luton sticks out as a potential promoted team.

Posted by: Flatcap May 26 2015, 09:32 PM

It has certainly been tight in this division this season, I would add Portsmouth to the possible promotion mix (they have appointed Paul Cook as manager recently).

Posted by: steve201 May 26 2015, 10:39 PM

There's not much between the conference and league one IMO!

Pompy will be promoted eventually - too big a club not to eventually rise again!

Posted by: Rooney May 27 2015, 05:51 PM

Pompey will get promoted eventually, but not until they sort their act out. They're favourites again, but I'd be surprised if they went up.

Personally for me I think there is a big difference between the leagues. (League 1-Conference). Maybe there's not much in between, but the top teams of League 1 are streets ahead. As for the Conference, the league has got worse recently, well in quality terms at least. The top 10 sides used to be really good, now there's a top 3/4 teams and that's it. I blame the village teams!
