Released in the Summer of 2000, this became yet another smash for Britney, especially in Europe. What do you think of this song, the video, the lyrics? Was the best choice for a 2nd single off the Oops! albums?
Imo, the "sheeeee is so luuuucky, but whyyyy does she cryyyy" part near the end is everything.
A complete 0/10.
I've been loving it more than ever over the past few months.
I didn't realise quite how sinister it was lyrically when I was younger, it's actually a pretty dark song!
It's my least favorite track on 'My Prerogative'. And probably my least favorite Britney single, with the exception of the 'Britney Jean' singles and collabs.
f*** all the haters.
Lucky is In my top 5 Britney tracks. It is the definition of a mid tempo pop anthem. It is the very idea of our generations childhood. It is f***ing flawless.
I think it would be in my top 5 singles too, which is weird because when it came out I couldn't stand it.
But that intro........
This song gets way too much flack! Underneath the happy sounding bubblegum production is a really sad/dark song, like Aly said, and I love that contrast.
was not a fan before, but it has grown on me last few years.
Wonderful track, incredibly underrated! I agree about the rather dark story being told, such a contrast to the melody but it actually works quite well.
It's not OMFG AMAZING or anything but I agree about the contrast <3 It's a great little pop song anyway, very "of its time" but always enjoyable.
I loved this song when it came and I still think it's brilliant. I think it's even poignant and prophetic when you think about what happened to Britney just a few years later.
It's an amazing song and kinda solidifies the fact that Max Martin can't be beaten when writing/producing pop hooks.
Stunningly poignant and without a doubt in my top 10 Britney songs.
It is eerie how this could be used as the story of her life etc... It's such a stunning and wonderful pop song!
I'm not going to go into some deep thought about this song but...
I love the song, the contradiction of the light, happy sound of the song with the clash of the dark, heavier lyrics is wonderful.
Look at songs like Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People to see how well this can work, people thought that was some amazing summery indie song because of the light sound and light chorus. But the content of the song was actually really sinister.
Yeah, sure, the delivery is a bit cheesy, but the message is quite chilling when you fast forward to Britney's very public breakdown years later. How poignant.
The Vegas version is heartbreaking
Just remembering how this song was really big at the time, it was EVERYWHERE. It's fantastic. Easily within my top 5 Britney songs.
I remember I couldn't believe it only made No.5, I was sure it was going to be another No.1 for her since it was literally everywhere!
It's an utter marvel and that key change is a FORCE OF NATURE
I find it beautiful; it's the epitome of teen-pop Britney. I'm sure people can connect with Lucky; feeling as if you have everything but something is missing in your heart.
