the ultimate series is BACK and this time we're all about those one hit wonders. firstly this is the definition i will be using:
"an song by an artist which as part of the lead credit has only had one top 20 hit single" (basically the R1 definition) Here's a reminder of the top 76. Top 76 A.R. Rahman & The Pussycat Dolls feat. Nicole Scherzinger - Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny) Agnes - Release Me Alexandra Stan - Mr. Saxobeat Andreas Johnson - Glorious Avicii vs. Nicky Romero - I Could Be The One Azealia Banks feat. Lazy Jay - 212 Brandon Flowers - Crossfire Caesars - Jerk It Out Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On Daniel Powter - Bad Day David Guetta vs. The Egg - Love Don’t Let Me Go (Walking Away) Delerium feat. 71 2011 Yasmin - Finish Line 8 [more 5s] 72 2010 Selena Gomez & The Scene - Naturally 8 73 2005 Inaya Day - Nasty Girl 6 74 2004 Nina Sky - Move Ya Body 5 75 2006 Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On 0 [finished higher in original rounds] 76 2007 Mutya Buena - Real Girl 0 Oops at Mutya and Corinne Bailey Rae who finish with no points at all. Clearly people didn't like those songs that much when compared to far better songs that are also in the final. Poor Nina Sky finish at #74 though Now that is a proper jam. Also icon of our generation Inaya Day only gets 6 points. |

61 2010 Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup - We No Speak Americano 20 62 2004 Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl 19 63 2001 The Supermen Lovers feat. Mani Hoffman - Starlight 17 [more 13s] 64 2005 Caesars - Jerk It Out 17 65 2003 Lumidee - Never Leave You (Uh Oooh Uh Oooh) 14 66 2010 Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me 12 [more 12s] 67 2002 Mad'house - Like A Prayer 12 68 2009 Mini Viva - Left My Heart In Tokyo 11 [more 8s] 69 2004 LMC vs. U2 - Take Me To The Clouds Above 11 70 2002 Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song (Asereje) 8 [more 8s] At #69 is LMC vs. U2. 'Take Me To The Clouds Above' was one of the first songs I remember going to #1, although now it's not so remembered and there are tons of better dance songs than this anyway. It finishes one place above the iconic Ketchup Song which I'm surprised didn't finish higher. Mini Viva the flops are also in this section alongside a Madonna tribute act. Topping the section however is We No Speak Americano which got most of its points by myself (shame not many people here appreciate how good this is). Can't believe it's 5 years old now anyway, sounds a lot fresher than most of the songs in that year. And to the amazement of UV/disappointment of everyone else Idina Menzel is still yet to come. |

Ouch at poor Mutya and Corinne, maybe subject to a lot of "I like this but not enough to love it" votes.
Lumidee / Supermen Lovers / LMC vs. U2 / Las Ketchup though All essential throwbacks. |

51 2000 Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 29 [more 11s] 52 2013 Lorde - Royals 29 53 2011 Martin Solveig & Dragonette - Hello 28 54 2005 Sunset Strippers - Falling Stars 25 [more 13s] 55 2001 Rui Da Silva feat. Cassandra - Touch Me 25 56 2001 Kate Winslet - What If 24 [more 14s] 57 2013 Icona Pop feat. Charli XCX - I Love It 24 [more 12s] 58 2011 Delilah - Go 24 59 2006 Nerina Pallot - Everybody's Gone To War 23 60 2000 Mary Mary - Shackles (Praise You) 22 Another section means we lose a few more great dance tunes, like 'Kernkraft 400' which is essential in every classic trance playlist, what an anthem! Also here is Lorde, who may not be a one hit wonder for much longer as she's only had one album so far and is clearly popular enough to get a second hit. Another place down is the fab 'Hello' which was one of four top 40 hits for Solveig but his only top 20. Icona Pop seem very low in this for a big Buzzjack fave, in fact it's the lowest song from 2013 here despite topping its yearly round so clearly its support faded away here. |

41 2011 Alexandra Stan - Mr. Saxobeat 37 42 2004 O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei 36 [more 14s] 43 2003 Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On 36 44 2014 G.R.L - Ugly Heart 35 45 2004 Gladiator feat. Izzy - Now We Are Free 34 [more 15s] 46 2006 David Guetta vs. The Egg - Love Don’t Let Me Go (Walking Away) 34 47 2005 Daniel Powter - Bad Day 32 48 2000 Andreas Johnson - Glorious 31 49 2012 Lady Antebellum - Need You Now 30 [more 14s] 50 2014 Vance Joy - Riptide 30 Alexandra Stan very much underperforms here, after winning 2011 doesn't even make the top 40. It finishes one ahead of O-Zone with their amazing novelty effort. G.R.L also underperform and we have overperformances from Gladiator and Lady Antebellum (who knew Need You Now was this popular?) |

'Kernkraft 400' is one of my favourite instrumentals ever, SO hypnotic and spacey. Classic.

31 2002 Puretone - Addicted To Bass 44 32 2008 Sam Sparro - Black & Gold 41 [more 14s] 33 2009 A.R. Rahman & The Pussycat Dolls feat. Nicole Scherzinger - Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny) 41 34 2006 Justice vs. Simian - We Are Your Friends 40 [more 15s] 35 2007 Peter Bjorn & John feat. Victoria Bergsman - Young Folks 40 [more 14s] 36 2013 Haim - The Wire 40 37 2014 Idina Menzel - Let It Go 39 [more 15s] 38 2007 Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand - Let Me Think About It 39 39 2008 Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008 38 [more 14s] 40 2007 Mason vs. Princess Superstar - Perfect (Exceeder) 38 Into the top 40 now and we start with three amazing mid 00s dance tunes in a row which is then ruined by Idina Menzel at #37. She could have another hit single soon though with the release of Frozen 2. Homebase anthem Young Folks is here also as well as some drum n' bass with Puretone at #31. |

21 2008 M.I.A. - Paper Planes 56 22 2003 Junior Senior - Move Your Feet 55 23 2003 XTM & DJ Chucky presents Annia - Fly On The Wings Of Love 53 24 2001 PPK - Resurection 52 25 2008 Sara Bareilles - Love Song 51 26 2000 Spiller feat. Sophie Ellis Bextor - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) 47 27 2010 Brandon Flowers - Crossfire 46 [same 15s, more 13s] 28 2006 Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child 46 [more 15s] 29 2003 Tomcraft - Loneliness 46 [more 13s] 30 2009 The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition 46 Junior Senior didn't actually qualify on the basis of me forgetting its existence in the yearly rounds but its auto qualification is definitely justified here as it ends up in 22nd, beating all but one of the 2003 songs that did qualify, two of which also appear in this section. One of my favourites ever 'Resurection' is also here, at #24. What a brilliantly produced piece of trance Some more greatness here and it's not just the dance songs, 'Paper Planes', 'Voodoo Child' and 'Sweet Disposition' all make appearances here. |

11 2005 The Bravery - An Honest Mistake 76 [more 14s] 12 2013 Avicii vs. Nicky Romero - I Could Be The One 76 13 2009 Agnes - Release Me 73 14 2003 Michael Andrews feat. Gary Jules - Mad World 62 15 2000 Delerium feat. Sarah McLachlan - Silence 61 16 2014 Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz - Prayer In C 60 [more 15s] 17 2013 Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais - Summertime Sadness 60 [more 14s] 18 2011 Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks 60 19 2001 Roger Sanchez - Another Chance 58 [more 15s] 20 2008 H "Two" O feat. Platnum - What's It Gonna Be? 58 Starting the top 20 is H "Two" O with a song I like but it always reminds me of the much better (imo) bassline song of that era, T2 'Heartbroken' which sadly didn't qualify. The lush 'Another Chance' is one place ahead, the song got voted the 3rd best dance song of all time in last year's Ultimate Dance contest (behind We Found Love and Better Off Alone which are both ineligible here) but it is not the highest dance song here. Some more dance comes from Cedric Gervais with his uplifting 'Summertime Sadness' remix which finishes behind another remix, this time from Robin Schulz who brought 'Prayer In C' to popularity. Trance classic 'Silence' starts the top 15, I love the way this song builds (the Tiesto remix that is, the Airscape remix was also popular but I don't like that as much). Slowing down the tempo at #14 however is the beautiful 'Mad World' cover version, which works a lot better than the more uptempo original. More greatness from #13 to #11, especially #12, which was Avicii's first #1 (and also Nicky Romero's, as he is why the song is here) |

6 2009 MGMT - Kids 81 7 2012 Azealia Banks feat. Lazy Jay - 212 80 8 2007 Robyn & Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat 78 9 2014 Mr. Probz - Waves (Robin Schulz Remix) 76 [more 15s] 10 2012 Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know 76 [same 14s, same 10s, more 9s] I thought Robyn and Loreen would be a runaway top 2 here, but she only gets as high as #8! There still is potential for Loreen to win this of course as she's in the top 5. The top 10 is looking seriously good so far however, with the swagfest that is '212' at #7, Gotye's only hit single by any definition at #10 and one of my favourite songs ever at #9 MGMT land just outside of the top 5 with their great 'Kids' too. The top 5: DJ Sammy & Yanou feat. Do - Heaven Edward Maya feat. Vika Jigulina - Stereo Love Loreen - Euphoria Of Monsters & Men - Little Talks Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles who's the winner then? |

#5 Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles (82)
no. #4 Loreen - Euphoria (83) Loreen doesn't win! Does the underperformance of Loreen and Robyn/Kleerup here indicate that they'll underperform in Record of the Decade then? Probably not. #3 DJ Sammy & Yanou feat. Do - Heaven (85) I've always found this a tad overrated in terms of dance songs, but it's great. Not at all surprised to see it this high. #2 Of Monsters & Men - Little Talks (89) A nice little indie song here, which has always been loved by many Buzzjack users, but I'm glad it hasn't won especially when we have... #1 Edward Maya feat. Vika Jigulina - Stereo Love (92) what a great surprise of a #1! Amazing to see as I love this song a lot Like 'We No Speak Americano' this has aged very well for me from 2010. Great choice of winner here. ~ Full Results 1 2010 Edward Maya feat. Vika Jigulina - Stereo Love 92 2 2012 Of Monsters & Men - Little Talks 89 3 2002 DJ Sammy & Yanou feat. Oh wow, a lovely top 2, very much what I would have chosen for this, and covering both sides of the average one-hit wonder very well, a dance producer who had one breakout hit that probably transcends most of his other material and an indie-rock band who had one song popular enough to be loved by the masses but have a bit more beyond that one song that just never got the chance to be pushed.
Thought Paper Planes might have done better but that's the only big surprise of these results for me. Nevertheless, been a fun exercise and I've re/discovered a good few great songs from this, thanks Dan. |

Good winner, but given the quality here, it could've been a lot better. Stereo Love feels quite of it's time and not really timeless like some of the list.
Most of my faves did well here, great to see Junior Senior still slay despite being initially not available to all the voters! But also nice to see Mad World do so well too. Would've been quite wrong for either to miss the final here. |
