Russian people would never buy the album or the song after downloading the free version tongue.gif ohmy.gif

Beverley ends in an "ey", could someone fix that? happy.gif

It's good to see we got highest points (although we've probably just had the most votes haven't we?) and the most successful debut since when Mdice won everyone was a debut country. Beverley is the first British act to win as well, good on her. biggrin.gif

I'll have to think about my next entry a lot. I'm thinking something by Maria Lawson or Estelle, but they might be a bit similar to what I entered this time - a black british female soul singer. (though Estelle is a bit more R&B/Hip-Hop)

Posted by: Trashsson 11th May 2008, 07:39 PM

Maria Lawson or Alesha Dixon possibly? w00t.gif

I'm not so familiar with the solo career of Alesha Dixon, I might check out some of her stuff in a while.

you face an uphill struggle to get into the top five anytime soon because you entered so late ohmy.gif

just remember, those who don't get to the final are not counted in the points, so if Natasha gets to the final, any points she gets will be added to your total! if she failed to get to the final, your points would stay at 191

you have 193 in total actually ohmy.gif 22 + 114 + 57

it wouldn't be feasible to add points from the semi, as then countries who did qualify would get two sets of points added to their total (the points from the semi, and the points from the final)

so for those reasons, I ignore the points from the final when compiling the stats

and that's another reason that it's so tense, and important to qualify for the final ohmy.gif

I think that, in addition to the big 5, we should have some kind of average points thing for all countries who have been in three or more contests. I don't know if that would make any difference, but it might give the newer countries a chance of appearing in the top few countries at some point. Right now you'd probably have to have been in at least 6 or 7 contests to make the list.

Posted by: Trashlexis 24th June 2008, 11:15 AM

I don't think that would work that well, as for Love Song which won for me in BJSC4 scored less points than Maria & Mira who came third for me! the contests with hardly any participants would heavily pull down the averages for some countries, especially those who were in the earlier contests and then pulled out. I do wonder if people will stop voting for 'the big 5' at some point to try and get their own country higher in the overall stats heehee.gif

Hmm. What about working out the average votes in each contest, adding them up and doing an average? E.g. 100 Points from 25 voters makes an average of 4 points then you could get 70 points from 35 voting countries, an average of 2 points. Your average over those two contests would be 3 points.

I guess the problem with that way is that the effort going into working out the stats might be more than it's worth.

Posted by: Peter30 24th June 2008, 02:18 PM

Also, I would dispute whether Mdice's first win is really worthy of "Best Debut." Somebody had to win that year, as it was the first Contest, and I think Quotosibb would be more deserving of that title outright.

yeah, I can't really be bothered to do it heehee.gif

bear in mind though, that like Kylienips did in BJSC7, some of the 'big 5' are inevitably going to crash out in the semis at some point and then they won't have any points added to their final totals. when that happens, it will give a chance for other countries to catch up. everyone has to keep sending amazing songs to ensure that they never miss the final and keep on racking up points

well, Mdice were just as worthy of that title as Quotosibb...yes somebody HAD to win BJSC1 and Mdice beat off a lot of stiff competition. They DID have the best debut to the contest, just like Switzerland had the best debut to the Eurovision in 1956!

7. Mdiče – Britney Spears – And Then We Kiss - 37.7% (BJSC1)
8. Frahliso - Serebro - What's Your Problem? - 37.3% (BJSC4)

that's so ridiculous, I always thought that was far too much ohmy.gif what other ridiculous rules do they have???

Posted by: Trashlexis 25th June 2008, 03:16 PM

Most of them are pretty similar, but if you don't vote you get kicked off the next edition...some of the entries are ridiculously cheap as well! Check out their wiki - http://nsc.wikia.com. Speaking of which, I've just entered a request for a BJSC wiki! w00t.gif

But yes, some of the entries have been REALLY cheap:

NSC 2 Escotia Unwritten Natasha Bedingfield 108 points
NSC 8 Astoria Behind These Hazel Eyes Kelly Clarkson 157 points (Haha, won't Mart!n be happy to hear that one? sleep.gif)
NSC 9 Alinta My Immortal Evanescence 151 points
NSC 11 Spila Left Outside Alone Anastacia 145 points (I would actually have a fit if someone entered this here!)
NSC 13 Gabriel Wake Up Call Maroon 5 160 points
NSC 17 Eurora What Hurts The Most Cascada 154 points

Posted by: Pavel 25th June 2008, 03:39 PM

All are such cheap entries sleep.gif Except Evanescence heart.gif <333

Posted by: Trashlexis 25th June 2008, 03:49 PM

There are some that are even worse! laugh.gif The following songs have all been entered as well:

Avril Lavigne Girlfriend
Spice Girls Viva Forever
Kelly Clarkson Breakaway
Enrique Iglesias Do You Know (Ping Pong Song)
Rihanna Umbrella manson.gifmanson.gifmanson.gif
Maroon 5 This Love
Nelly Furtado Say It Right manson.gifmanson.gifmanson.gif
Cascada Everytime We Touch
Girls Aloud Something Kinda Ooh
Avril Lavigne When You're Gone
Christina Aguilera Candyman
Green Day Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
Britney Spears Toxic (Oh Boyan, how could you? sad.gif)
Eiffel 65 Blue (Da Ba Dee)
Rihanna Unfaithful
Fergie Big Girls Don't Cry
Rihanna Don't Stop the Music
Britney Spears Gimme More
Sugababes About You Now
Timbaland & One Republic Apologize

Spila has been responsible for some of the cheapest entries - Umbrella, Say It Right, Apologize, and when they participated here they sent No One by Alicia Keys in the first contest sad.gif There are some other really awful ones, the list is at http://nsc.wikia.com/wiki/All_NSC_entries

But you need to think aswell that the nation song contest has been going on for longer and has more participants which leaves more room for those kind of Entrys.

Just wait until the buzzjack song contest has passed 20 editions and we'll have our own list of monstrosities tongue.gif

Yeah. sad.gif Though it was in English. ;_; I don' think people gave it much of a chance. But Imogen Heap would have broken the streak anyway. Hopefully Shakira/The Veronicas/Isabel Guzman will get me back on track after this.

Posted by: gooddelta 26th June 2008, 09:09 AM

I think Shakira's your safest bet for finishing in the top ten again, but the other two are stronger songs in my opinion...Hide & Seek is a love/hate track...personally I adore it, but there are some people who don't really 'get it' sad.gif

Posted by: Peter30 23rd July 2008, 12:44 AM

I would post an update for the top ten most successful songs pointswise relative to the number of countries etc etc.

But sadly none of this month's entries have made a dent on the top ten, with Lily Allen recieving just 32.1% of the possible score, well below the 35.8% scored by Europe for Romera from BJSC3, currently in 10th place.

Posted by: Sabrewulf238 23rd July 2008, 10:39 AM

I think Dalisska has a total of........178 points right now.

A good bit behind, Dalisska needs to break the 100 points barrier for the next contest! cheer.gif

2nd place bebeh smoke.gifcheer.gif

Posted by: Peter30 25th July 2008, 04:09 PM

Another statistic: The top ten most successful countries based on....position or whatever you wanna say it's based on.

Basically each country gets 12 points for finishing 1st, 10 for finishing 2nd, 8 for finishing 3rd down to 1 point for finishing in 10th place. It takes into account that there have been different amounts of points given out in each contest, so evens that out, but still rewards countries who have been in the competition for longer.

1) Mdice
2) FSR Rontvia
3) Bhangra
4) Kylienips
5) Ashton
6) US Russiatron
7) Kopecka
8) Bokia

Sorry Boyan. sad.gif I don't exactly go "That song is in x language, I'm not even going to listen to it" when people enter them though. I listen to every song in full at least once, even if I hate it. It's just that foreign songs don't usually get close to getting points from me because of the barrier. I know this isn't a very nice attitude to have towards music, but I just do. sleep.gif

7) Kopecka
8) Bokia
9) Angelic Land
10) Cascadia

I think it should.....I mean they still took part even if they didn't get to the final? Did Dustin the Turkey never take part in eurovision just because he didn't qualify from the semis?

Think about this....what if a country has taken part in 6-8 contests.....but has never qualified(unlikly but possible) even though they have a history with the contest they won't be recognised anywhere on the country participation list. I think all countries that have ever participated (final or semi) should be in that list.

It seems a little weird to me that it wouldn't count semi-finalists. I know that it shouldn't include semi points or anything but I don't see why semi-finalists can't be included in other stats that have nothing to do with points. (or maybe have seperate stats for semi-finalists)

While a 3rd win is no mean feat, Brandy's victory was by no means an overwhelming one, and Mdice's weakest yet, gaining just 35.8% of the possible points on offer.

That means that there is no change to the top ten most successful songs after BJSC X.

Actually I think I've forgotten what exactly that statistic shows! laugh.gif I thought it was what percentage of people gave them points - but I think that's wrong isn't it? If it were that, the less people in the final there are the more likely they are to get points. In BJSC IV you had to give points to more countries than you didn't give points to.

It's percentage of total points available. For example in a contest with 22 countries, there are 252 points available (21x12, since you can't vote for yourself).

Seems like a pretty fair way of working out the most successful songs.

As it turns out, the top 2 in this have also gone on to become the two biggest hits from the contest smile.gif

Oh ok, well I'm sure there's some explanation as to why it works out being biased but I'm not mathematically gifted enough to think of it right now. I'm sure it's not just a coincidence that the only non-winners in the top 10 are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places countries from the smallest contest so far.

I think it's something to do with the number of countries we give points to always being 10 while the countries we don't give points to has varied. In BJSC IV you had to give points to 10/19 other entries, so that's just over a 50% chance of receiving at least 1 point whereas in the biggest final of 29 you had to give points to 10/28 of the other countries so that's about 35% chance of getting at least 1 point.

I'm probably over-thinking this and that's wrong too but I'm sure there is an explanation, I'm just not smart enough to find it.

I think you definitely hold that record as the current qualification system has only been around for 5 contests, and I don't think there is anybody who has failed to qualify in all of them!

Posted by: gooddelta 27th October 2008, 08:44 AM

fully updated now, not much change in 'the Big 5' with Mdice well ahead of Kopecka now after Janelle's flop...FSR Rontvia moving back to touching distance of Kopecka...Ashton up to 4th, Simondly replace Bhangra...

Nonsuch, Quotosibb and Eledan all between 595 and 600 points total scored in the final now heehee.gif another couple of top fives for any of these countries and they will almost certainly join 'the big 5', indeed Nonsuch have certainly been one of the dominating presence's in the 'Post-Untouched BJSC'

It's just not going to happen though, I can't find a song that I think has the strength to do it. sleep.gif

I've updated some of these, the rest will have to wait until I have time...

Kopecka have comprehensibly beaten most appearances before a win record from Rontvia and KOS...they appeared 11 times in the final before a win!

and of course the new highest score to date in BJSC cheer.gif

I also prefer LIGHTS but to be honest have no idea how she will do. i'm glad to have your support though, it is much appreciated happy.gif

Oh and btw - Quicksand (by my calculations) scored 35.75% of the available points so doesn't make the top ten 'most successful songs' ohmy.gif it was a pretty tight contest so Mdice et others took a lot of the high scores away from La Roux

Posted by: The Fear 15th December 2008, 09:54 PM

I have no idea how she'd go down.

There has been a drastic shift in what works, and what doesn't. As the contest shifted i had got into a proper groove of improving positions after the cheapness of BJSCI [21-16-9-4-2] since VII i haven't been so sure of what would do well.

I think most of my songs that i have lined up would have done well Pre-Untouched, but i'm not sure about Post-Untouched. I quite like Piece Of My Heart and Come As you Are.

I am considering entering a cover of POMH but am really indifferent about how it would go

I can't really speak for the older generation of contests as I've only been in it since VI but you just have to look at older results to notice that it's changed so much.

POMH would be interesting, it's quite a well known song but if the cover is good enough it should do alright. 'Hallelujah' did decently and that was a song most were probably familiar with.

Brandy was a shock in BJSCX

I: Britney wasn't really a shock, but then again only Charis winning would've been a massive shock - we didn't really know what to expect at the time. I was just glad Nelly didn't win!
II: I was v. shocked at Katharine McPhee winning. Totally didn't see that one coming, esp. as I thought from the semi-final results (and much of the final voting atch) that Regina was gonna win.
III: Dixie Chicks was a bit of a shock, I had thought Duffy had it in the bag. Actually, I lie, I thought Jordin had it in the bag blush.gif
IV: Sara was a shock as well - I'd thought Wynter Gordon would storm it.
V: Gomenasai shocked everyone really. I didn't have any idea what would win that one though...
VI: Black Butta was possibly the biggest shock winner of them all. I'd thought I Don't Know/Opium would've won.
VII: IKAG was the most predictable winner of them all.
VIII: f*** You does seem quite predictable now, but I had thought Tata Young had it in the bag...
IX: It does seem now that WYRMT was always gonna win, but most of us were terrified that cheapness and So What would steal it, so it was a shock of sorts that BJ made the right decision happy.gif
X: Brandy wasn't really a shock - it was easily the most open contest we've had thus far, so most of that top ten could've won and it wouldn't have been a shock really.
XI: Lenka wasn't a shock.
XII: Personally La Roux was a shock to me. I predicted 2nd, and throughout most of the voting I thought third. That was one hell of a theft at the end there laugh.gif

Actually, in the most successful songs, La Roux has nudged Beverley out of the top ten by a fraction of a per cent!! ohmy.gif

1) FSR Rontvia - Sara Bareilles - Love Song - 43% (BJSC IV)
2) Mdiče - Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl - 42.3% (BJSC VII)
3) Eledan - t.A.T.u - Gomenasai - 41.3% (BJSC V)
4) Utopia - Pipettes - Pull Shapes - 40.8% (BJSC IV)
5) Kingdom of Shadow – Margaret Berger – Will You Remember Me Tomorrow – 39.9% (BJSC IX)
6) Kopečka - Stefy - Chelsea - 38.2% (BJSC IV)
7) Bhangra - Dixie Chicks - Not Ready to Make Nice - 37.8% (BJSC III)
8) Mdiče – Britney Spears – And Then We Kiss - 37.7% (BJSC I)
9) Frahliso - Serebro - What's Your Problem? - 37.3% (BJSC IV)
10) Kopečka - La Roux - Quicksand - 36.6% (BJSC XII)

This makes Quicksand the most successful BJSC song since Will You Remember Me Tomorrow!

I know some people did calculations beforehand, but for those wanting specifics, La Roux got 35.55% of the vote, which beats Bev's 35.53%

Get in heehee.gif I still think something's fishy about this stat though, but I need a mathematician to confirm - there must be some way of finding a standard for popularity as currently it seems skewed towards contests with fewer participants laugh.gif

Yeah Aaron is convinced that it is too. It certainly does seem to favour the smaller contests, but I think it is the most realistic indication we've got.

There are other possible reasons for there being more songs from contest 4 in the top ten.

We could always compile a top ten from the post-Untouched era, since they were all pretty much the same size

That sounds much more realistic atch ohmy.gif Or perhaps dividing all of the points by how many people voted and multiplying them by a certain amount so we have an equalising standard of sorts? Although that sounds a bit complicated...

Posted by: Aaron™ 17th December 2008, 06:16 PM

I can't think of a fair way to measure the most successful/popular song. The finals vary in size yet we always have to give 10 songs points so the songs where people had to award points to 10/19 other songs are bound to have a benefit over songs where you have to give points to 10/26. (in a 27 song final, or if you didn't qualify 10/27)

It shouldn't really make much difference, but when there is more choice, the points are going to be more spread out. Then there's the non-qualifiers voting which shouldn't unbalance things too much but without a song in the final they have more choice.

I don't really know how to explain it, but when you look at the data it's just obvious that it's biased towards contests with less particpants. I don't think there's a way to fairly do this. It's not comparing like with like. I think the only contests that we can really compare are IX and X as they both had 27 song finals with an equal amount of non-qualifiers but, even then, I doubt the same amount of people actually voted.

That was one hell of a theft at the end there laugh.gif

for me...

I: I didn't care enough to think of it as a shock...I only remember being disappointed at Believe Again doing so awfully in this contest
II: see above but replace Believe Again with Stumble
III: I also thought Jordin would win this one...was surprised it came quite so low
IV: Definitely didn't have Sara down as a winner for me, I thought Pipettes would walk it actually
V: yep, tATu was a shock! nice shock as I was the host
VI: Massive shock that Beverley won...I couldn't see anything but Opium winning that one!
VII: there was never any doubt that it would be a Katy/Gaga 1-2
VIII: another I hosted...early votes indicated that Ladyhawke was going to win...then it switched to Tata, then Little Jackie and then Lily Allen...I wouldn't have been shocked at any of these 4 winning
IX: Everyone else thought So What would walk it, and I did too until about two days before the final results when I changed my mind, after I'd actually heard Margaret's song that is! I was the only one who had her at the top of my odds thread though just before the final results were announced!
X: Brandy shocked me...I thought Mira Craig was going to win, I was so blinded by my love for the track at that time!
XI: Lenka was one of the most obvious winners I think...I always expected it...
XII: La Roux wasn't a surprise for me...I did think it was a 4-6 horse race but La Roux was always in front

ACTUALLY....I am now thinking that it might be a coincidence.....

Because it is not the percentage share of points that a song has, it is the percentage of the total amount of points they could have achieved. And the smaller the contest, the smaller this total will be. There are factors to consider like in the earlier contests there were fewer people and so fewer varieties and it came to musical taste etc.

The stats certainly do favour contest 4 in particular, but look and you'll see that the next two smallest contests, 1 and 3, only have one entry each, much lower in the top ten.

A good way to judge would be to look at the percentage scores that the songs at the bottom got.

Highest Final Points

01. Herzebania - Agnes Carlsson – Release Me - 199 [BJSC XII // 1st]
02. Kopečka - La Roux - Quicksand - 193 [BJSC XII // 1st]
03. Mdiče - Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl - 188 [BJSC VII // 1st]
04. Kingdom of Shadow - Margaret Berger - Will You Remember Me Tomorrow - 187 [BJSC IX // 1st]
05. Mdiče - Frankmusik - 3 Little Words - 183 [BJSC XII // 2nd]
06. Mdiče - Brandy - Right Here (Departed) - 176 [BJSC X // 1st]
07. Botanikka - Darin; Kat DeLuna - Breathing Your Love - 173 [BJSC XII // 3rd]
08. Torchwood - Lady GaGa - Paparazzi - 170 [BJSC X // 2nd]
09. FSR Rontvia - The Sound of Arrows – M.A.G.I.C. - 169 [BJSC XIII // 2nd]
10. Allecian - The Saturdays - Up - 164 [BJSC X // 3rd]

This obviously favours everything from VII and after and generally the contests with the most participants so it's about as invalid as the other top 10 songs statistic but oh well.

Hmm...this is what I-VI looks like:

01. Eledan - t.A.T.u - Gomenasai - 114 [BJSC V // 1st]
02. Quotosibb - Beverley Knight - Black Butta (Live) - 114 [BJSC VI // 1st]

04. Bokia - Katharine McPhee - Dangerous - 105 [BJSC II // 1st]
05. Mdiče - Britney Spears - And Then We Kiss - 104 [BJSC I // 1st]
06. Tyronosaurusland - Regina Spektor - Fidelity - 104 [BJSC II // 2nd]
07. Romeria - Europe - The Final Countdown - 103 [BJSC III // 2nd]
08. Kylienips - The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony - 101 [BJSC II // 3rd]
09. Rivandia - Duffy - Mercy (Live) - 100 [BJSC III // 3rd]
10. Iceyland - Lisa Miskovsky - Sing To Me - 100 [BJSC II // 4th]

Ties broken by letting the songs from contests with less voters go higher. II obviously features more heavily in this.

I dunno, I reckon it'd still lean towards smaller contests just because we always give 10 songs points but the amount of songs to pick from ranges from 19 to 28 so people were always more likely to give points to "Love Song" than "Black Butta". (smallest final vs biggest final) Maybe it's worth working out though.

A total of 20 artists have been sent 3 or more times to the contest and they are:

01. The Veronicas 4
02. Girls Aloud 4
03. Keri Hilson 4
04. M.I.A. 3
05. Alesha Dixon 3
06. Little Boots 3
07. Santogold 3
08. Serebro 3
09. Lily Allen 3
10. Gwen Stefani 3
11. Sibel Redzep 3
12. Lady GaGa 3
13. September 3
14. Imogen Heap 3
15. Sugababes 3
16. Lauren Rose 3
17. Rihanna 3
18. Britney Spears 3
19. Amy Studt 3
20. Enrique Iglesias 3

It's pretty much in no particular order and I didn't do 10 because I couldn't think of who to exclude. Maybe someone can work out who was in the most finals? I don't have time right now.

Posted by: gooddelta 25th February 2009, 10:14 PM

this would favour the countries that came in late and have done well, such as Nonsuch and Quotosibb

No countries beat the Saturdays point total in X this month despite this being the contest with the most voters. Probably because it was all so close with 10 points separating 1st and 4th. 70 points to finish 23rd seems rather high too, I think I finished top 10 on less than 100 points last month.

7th for Quotosibb is great! I think this was my points record actually. Top 5 is appealing, I'm the highest of the "new countries" but I'm also a contest ahead of the briliant Nonsuch who are rather close.

But yes I shall not be on top for long sadlyzz. I feeeel it. Rontvia can send nearly anything and almost always do well, it's just a matter of being in the right semi. Even unknown stuff. I tend to send songs that are known by a couple of BJ-ers but not necessarily by most of the people in BJSC, specifically songs like Brandy which probably is still my favorite entry (tied with Royksopp, I'd say). Still shocked an R&B song won, looking back on it. But I've gotten very lucky in the past few months in that songs like that have existed. I'm completely stuck this contest, which could end up being a good or bad thing. I'll be glad if introduce even a couple of people to a song though.

says the man with 4 winners and more records than me heehee.gif I have had 5 flops though, compared to your 2

I usually try to look for songs that I hope aren't known by any BJ-ers, not for any particular reason, just that this contest gives me a monthly opportunity to look outside of my usual cheesy pop box to discover songs from other genres/places

and if it makes you feel any better, I don't have any idea for this contest either really...I don't think any of my current reservations will do anything other than DNQ, and I'm still actively looking for a song that blows me away, rather than one that I will make do with

interesting stat, although doesn't reflect as well on those of us who have been here since the start when you could win with under 100 points, a requirement to miss the top ten these days heehee.gif

Posted by: The Fear 18th April 2009, 03:21 PM

yeah i don't like that stat.

it reflects better on those who have been in a small number of finals and have been lucky in said finals.

The fact that the 4th most successful nation is down in 20th says so much about that stat.

an average of over 100 points isn't bad for FSR Rontvia I suppose considering we're 15 contests in ohmy.gif

Of course that stat is biased towards the new countries or the ones that have been in less finals (same thing I guess?) but practically all the other stats are biased towards those who have been here longest.

It would suggest that you did well earlier (when it took less points to do well) but not so much in the high points era. Mdiče and FSR Rontvia have been consistent throughout and are in the top 5.

I wonder if Hendinia will be able to keep this up? ohmy.gif They've only been in the minimum amount of contests but that's great.

I agree completely with this point. It's highly unlikely any new country is gonna be top of the most successful country based on points in a final.

Posted by: Silas 4th May 2009, 08:46 PM

It's the one small advantage we have over everyone else. The fact that a small number of us have been here from the start.

Which is also very good for the contest.

And, all it takes is a bad run. The first 6 contests were very low points so it wouldn't take too long to be caught up, Quotosibb are breathing down the neck of the top5

*edit* Aaron is already 5th, and is 37 points away from me.

I though i had Angelicland between us still.

Bugger.

BULLETPROOF MUST WIN.

Posted by: Booty Robot 10th May 2009, 10:34 AM

I think Mdice should be in contention, La Roux may be successful off of the back of IFTK hitting the big time and thus giving them a lot of BJ fans but I don't think Bulletproof quite has the same impact needed for the win, an extremely strong finish is certainly likely though. I've still not heard all the semi 2 songs in full so can't quite say who i think will be contending the win but I think it's pretty open.

Posted by: nickthenoodle 10th May 2009, 02:54 PM

Janet who? my worst entry ever sleep.gif

But yeah I am totally feeling I have nothing to be considered for the next Best Of but it's just finding that 'one' song.

I think Quotosibb, although not necessarily having a defining hit single (though you could call Beverley just that) generally have a high quality of entries consistently which makes you high profile. KoS are quite inconsistent and thus don't quite have the same reputation as being a top nation.

I'd say Lights has a good chance...it may only have come 6th but it should have come at least 3rd or 4th and I reckon it might get into the Best Of...great song heart.gif

Janet was my first and as yet only 'of the moment' entry whom I didn't know prior to the contest. Although it was a good song, it was completely average and I have absolutely no desire to listen to it again.

I'm so relieved that I sent Uh Huh Her over Janet to XV...I got bored of Let Go in a couple of weeks...I wouldn't call Breakaway average, it's a good song, perhaps not as good as Heartache On The Dancefloor but that would have got slaughtered for sounding almost identical to Chris Brown's Forever

Just like everyone dismissed Belinda (my second best finishing entry thus far!) It's hard to judge where pure pop princesses will perform.

Janet... meh

So what would be your other 3? (assuming Dame Maggie would be in there kink.gif )

I reckon Black Butta is one of the defining 'BJSC' songs, i.e. songs that few people would know about without the contest but are now standards to the forum...I know Quotosibb like to keep it more safe in order to keep up their qualification record these days (Video Villain was a nice surprise though!) but I look forward to the day when Aaron sends another contest defining song like that...and when he does, FSR Rontvia's 12 points are reserved just for that occasion kink.gif Black Butta only getting 1 point from me in VI was a complete injustice, and I can only apologise profusely sob.gif

Shame it only scraped 19th in the Best Of, obviously not that defining. sleep.gif

I wish I could find another contest defining song as well but I'm not that good at unknowns and the fact that a Beverley Knight album track is considered something people would have never heard is quite sad. sad.gif I (obviously) think she's brilliant and "Black Butta" not being a lead, or even a single, is one of the most baffling choices I've ever seen, forget "Migrate". I'm a huge fan and it's up there as one of her best imo. It just so happened that an amazing performance of one of my favourite songs by my favourite artist went down with the rest of you. I'd love to go back to her but "Straight Jacket" and even "Shoulda Woulda Coulda" didn't do much when she has been sent again. nocheer.gif

After going really cheap with September I figured I could allow myself to send something that would probably flop as I was hosting. Video Villain was definitely a "I would never send this if I wasn't hosting" entry but it didn't do too badly in the end though it was so marmite in the voting I think it would have dropped out in the semis.

Now I've sent an alternate version of a cheap song I will try going back to a lesser known song with Tegan & Sara for XVII but you've probably heard it as well. I expect it'll drop out at the semis but I've been considering it for a while and this contest mirrors VII (which is my current worse result) so it'll be quite apt if/when it fails. Unfortunately it's not quite contest defining, I pulled them out of XIV because they were too close to the Veronicas and Uh Huh Her. heehee.gif

September was hardly a bad choice of replacement, coming 2nd kink.gif

I've just noticed that I didn't give Black Butta anything in my best of votes...I was partly to blame for it coming 19th nocheer.gif I reckon it was probably 11th or 12th in my vote, maybe this happened with a lot of people!?!

AFAIR(emember) i didn't give Black Butta any points or gave , but very few. sad.gif 10 in the main contest though w00t.gif

True, it just wasn't very inspired. I wish I checked out her music before she had a confirmed follow up to "Cry For You" as I would have probably sent it back then. Actually, I still don't own her album(s?) no idea why not. nocheer.gif

I expect so, it actually only missed 10th place (which I would have been happy with) by about 4 or 5 points. We could have done with more voters in the Best Of. sad.gif

I have seen 3 people (also from BJSC) stating The Show as the 'New Entry' (not a RE) this week on their charts laugh.gif

yeah, somehow people from this site refuses to chart songs if they're not in future release schedule list...dont know why???

Posted by: Pavel 22nd May 2009, 06:16 PM

I sometimes don't chart some songs purposely, but i always tell if i love the song.

But actually, throw my words, Kylienips/Ojnoj/Simmondly (a new entry on their charts) gave it points. kink.gif

I'm re-watching the live final of BJSC XI. I was sleeping when it took place heehee.gif

it makes no sense to me either...

for me a personal chart is your personal favourite songs of the week, whatever their source, not your favourite 40 songs off the UK release schedule unsure.gif obviously my chart looks a tad random at times, with album tracks and re-entries all the time but at least it's representative kink.gif
