The one that got away... 'Toxic' was initially offered to Kylie but was turned down. Britney accepted the song and it went on to become not only one of her biggest singles but one of the most iconic pop moments of the 21st century.

Presumably the Cathy Dennis demo (who co-wrote the song) is what was presented to Kylie and her team. One can only think it didn't fit their vision for the album, but can you see Kylie singing this and pulling it off in the same way Britney did? Maybe the Britney video is what made the song quite so successful and a Kylie version, without an iconic video, would not have seen the same success. How big could Kylie's career be now if she followed the Fever era with 'Toxic' if it did achieve the same success for her?

I remember Kylie once saying that the demo version she heard sounded nothing like the version we all know.

I can't really imagine her doing it...

The demo version sounds very similar to the final one...

Toxic doesn't really fit into BL style but it might for the Fever album.

Toxic would have been a killer lead single following on from fever and had it been I think kylie would have had another huge era with BL.But for that to have happened BL would have needed a duf direction and in a way i wish it had gone that way.

Yeah I had heard similar, although the demo I posted is the only early version I can find. I guess no one can really tell what will be a hit or not until the final product, and even then you can't say for certain.

Maybe it's just because the Britney version is so iconic, but I can't picture Kylie's vocals on the song. Just doesn't feel like a Kylie song, as much as it is a great pop song.

I don't like toxic myself but understand why it was a huge hit and can appreciate it.

I think Kylie was given an earlier demo than this which was completely different, one we haven't heard before.

I could actually imagine Kylie singing this - would have been another CGYOOMH moment tbh for her but BL would have had to be totally different, maybe that’s why she declined it?

Yeah I definitely can't see it fitting on Body Language as we know it.

Kylie seems pretty chill about the fact she didn't accept it and is happy it became a hit for Britney. She knows that's the way it goes in the music industry, sometimes songs just don't seem right or they slip away; a kind of win-some-lose-some situation. She wasn't first in line for Spinning Around or Head and those were much more important songs that what Toxic could have been, so yeah, just one of those things.

Would be nice if Kylie performed it on tour some time, just so we can hear her vocal on the track and imagine what could have been.

I really don’t think toxic would have suited Kylie. I just can’t see her singing it!
