With there not being a mainseries Pokémon game last year, and it being the series 25th anniversary, it's all but certain that there will be one this year. But what will it be?
There are rumours going around today that Diamond and Pearl remakes will be announced next month, and that seems to be the most likely option I'd say as well. I wouldn't mind it next year, but I really hope it's not "Let's Go! Johto"
https://metro.co.uk/2021/01/15/pokemon-diamond-and-pearl-remakes-confirmed-for-november-say-rumours-13908228/
a very credible source who often leaks Pokemon related news has confirmed it's Diamond and Pearl.
which makes so much sense, it's the "next" one in line, most of the Gen 4 Pokemon were cut from Sword and Shield, and even their Gen 2 pre-evolved forms (which was also people thinking that they'd be in Let's Go Johto, but it was said that they only wanted to do 1 game of Let's Go) and also it's the Diamond and Pearl 15 year anniversary this year too.
My favourite games are finally getting the remake they deserve!!
I just hope they don't mess up the difficulty curve
Ooh now that I think about it, I really hope the Poketch is retained!
I will be FUMING if it's f***ing Let's Go Johto, however I won't believe Sinnoh remakes until I see it with my own eyes at this point
I’m really hoping for Sinnoh remakes. But also very worried that they’re gonna ruin them.
I think D&P remakes are definitely the most likely, its a bit soon for a new gen and Lets Go Johto would just feel a bit meh for the 25th anniversary. I'd honestly be happy with any of the 3 though as much as I would love for it to be D&P remakes, I just miss all the trailers and build up that we didn't quite get last year
I think Sinnoh remakes would be good but from the point of view of someone who thinks Diamond and Pearl are the least good games in the series so they’ve actually got the chance to improve on the originals in a way that ORAS couldn’t really manage.
I'd really recommend this video on Diamond and Pearl and the various flaws they have (but not in a way that it feels like they're being maliciously ripped apart) and how they'd need to fix it in a remake. Fair warning: it's long!
I both like the idea of remakes & already can see the Sinnoh mons being done dirty by no megas or buffs, just Dynamaxes.
1000% a Sinnoh remake needs to be more based off Platinum than Diamond or Pearl. They can still market it as D & P remakes but they just need to include all the upgrades that Platinum had.
I wish they'd do an open world one that they can just keep adding to, a bit like pokemon revolution. It just makes so much sense, they'd make loads from DLC.
!
The signs are all pointing the way I want them to, but like I said I'll believe 4th Gen remakes when I have the game in my hands at this point I just hope they don't f*** it up, just leave it like Platinum with 8th gen engine and new moves since then, re-usable TMs etc, stuff like the added Fairy type, little quality of life improvements from SwSh like the easy breeding/EV training, the move relearner/nickname changer in each Pokemon centre. I guess you could argue they helped make SwSh too easy, but I think those things whilst leaving the game the same at its heart will address some of the issues with Gen 4 without taking away the great stuff. Platinum is my fave game so I hope they don't mess it up D:
Only thing is with merging Gen 8 mechanics with Gen 4 games is how reliant you were on HMs when it came to exploration in Sinnoh. Literally every route had some kind of blockage or extra route you could take later on in the game requiring a mix of any of the 8 HMs. To have a team able to navigate anywhere in Platinum you needed two HM slaves
Whereas now, what theres no rock climbing or smashing at all, no moving boulders, flying across the region has become a taxi service without needing a flying type, there’s no use for defog, waterfall or cut outside of battle, and the obvious surf has become a bicycle upgrade. It’s not entirely a bad thing it’ll just require either some backtracking on their part or a redesign(but hopefully not simplification) of Sinnoh landscape
They can do stuff like the Ride Pokémon feature from Gen 7, going back to having to use HMs on Pokemon would be stupid as it just wastes a move slot unless it's Surf/Fly/maybe Waterfall, Rock Climb is ok I guess but anything you'd realistically use it on would have Body Slam or something better.
Plus Defog has become a great, almost essential move competitively so there's implications there of making that available as a HM for basically any flying type!
Staraptor taxis or bust
Gen 4 remakes are the Pokémon equivalent to “preparing for YG to announce BLACKPINK’s next comeback” at this point I’d complete the game + post-game quests and I still wouldn’t believe it
Pokemon Presents coming on Friday at 15:00 GMT!
God I'm so nervous
It's worth nothing that it being a Pokemon Presents rather than a Pokemon Direct means it won't solely be Switch games. Though I'll eat my hat if a mainline game isn't announced
watch it be totally anticlimactic and the entire thing is just gameplay clips of PKMN Snap 2021
3 hours! I’m really more sure what to expect, I’ll be happy with any main series game but if it turns out to be Let’s Go Sinnoh I’ll be a little disappointed since we’ve waited so long for a remake and Id much rather it just be a normal one
ITS SINNOH DONE PROPERLY PRAISE THE f***ING LORD
I'm not sure I want to see what you're saying or not
Here we go!!
OH MY GOD. I FINALLY GET TO PLAY THEM
Honestly I was hoping for a remake because Sword/Shield did not deliver for me.
Excited for Diamond/Pearl as it has been AGES. I would have also been happy with a Black/White remake as well.
WTF is this Arceus nonsense. So basically just Pokemon without the Cities, Gyms. Just catching and fighting?
Really scraping the barrel with those names!
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (not the greatest of names with so many better fan made ones)! I suppose they are essentially direct remakes with what looks to be not many new features, whereas OR/AS obviously had the Mega and Primal Evolution story intertwined. The art styles reminds me of Link's Awakening on the Switch which was just an exact remake of the original game with updated graphics. I don't mind that though as it means we will have all the features of Sinnoh and it won't be forced into a huge 3D semi-open world like Sw/Sh. I was afraid they'd try change too much but thankfully it doesn't look like they are. I'm totally on board with all future remakes being done like this
Pokemon Legends: Arceus looks incredible tbh. It needs some more work based on the footage but that's obvious and it won't be out for a while anyway so they have plenty of time to work on it some more. It's essentially what everyone was asking for tbh: an open world Pokemon game set in a region everyone loves with Pokemon from around the world. The starter choices are amazing too they're FINALLY not forcing Kanto down our thoats! Rowlett, Cyndaquill, and Oshawott! They could have easily gone for the Kanto starters but thank god they didn't. I might be extra excited because they're the starters from the games I've played the least of - I've never finished Johto and have not touched B/W or S/M
I'm so excited by a BOTW style Pokemon it's crazy. I kinda hope there is more villages out there but the video made it sound like the one we saw was the first settlement so idk. Lakes, forests, caves, etc. will be great to explore open world but some kind of ruins would be nice although I'm not sure how it'd fit into the lore. A big mystery around Arceus I guess creating the Sinnoh region and all Pokemon could be cool too.
The remake is exactly what I wanted tbh!! I think going full SwSh graphics or open world for the remake would have been a bit jarring, I think this keeps the charm of the original and makes it feel faithful, but it's definitely a graphical update and glow-up still. Best of both worlds to me, and pretty much what I wanted without knowing it was what I wanted If you look at how Sinnoh is built and how Galar is built, it's so different I don't think it would have done justice to Sinnoh had they used the "new" style of graphics. This way, you get a new and fresh feel, but to me it has the same charm and heart that the originals had.
The prequel thing looks interesting, you can tell it's very early on so I'm reserving judgement on how it looks, as a spin-off/side thing I think it's a good move to have something different! I think had they moved to that in lieu of a normal remake, I'd be less happy with it but it looks great, it's good that they are kind of testing out a more open world approach with different gameplay on a side game then maybe they can merge a bit of that into Gen 9. It shows they are constantly looking at how the franchise can change with stuff like Final Fantasy has done really well, granted similarly to some of the reactions to this, fans aren't always happy, but Pokemon fans are never happy unless it's Kanto or Johto so meh.
The LoA starters are interesting too, Rowlett I never used in Alola as I loved Litten and Popplio so used them on my two playthroughs, Oshawott I overlook because I always choose Tepig in Unova! Cyndaquil I've never been a fan of but Totodile is the only usable Johto starter x
A new Pokemon Presents direct is coming at 2pm UK time today!
Why does this look like it was created in the Animal Crossing world. The small over world chibi look is so childish.
Just watched a bit of the direct, some interesting new features coming!
HOUNDOOM IS IN THIS WE’RE GETTING PLATINUM DEX LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO
New Trailer, featuring Bidoof the HM Slave!
Oh wow it looks really good to be fair, was a bit worried when the first trailer came out that it looked a bit naff. Will definitely be getting a copy to keep me busy while waiting for February's release.
This article breaks down a little bit more of what's to come: https://mobilesyrup.com/2021/10/13/pokemon-brilliant-diamond-shining-pearl-nintendo-switch-preview/
2 days to go, has anyone seen the memes of how small the legendries look to walk
Excited to play this tonight! I booked tomorrow off work
Watching a few Twitch Streams, game looks solid!
Hoping they've mixed up the encounters a bit for this game so I build outside the existing team I would always use.
Stupid question but you can play from 12am right?
I actually don't know - here in Canada all Switch releases come at 10pm for me (12am Eastern - which is New York/Toronto ect).
So maybe worth checking throughout the evening.
I assume it will be midnight, SwSh is the only time I ever did that and it was midnight that I could play it. If you have it pre-ordered, you can download it now so it's ready to start at launch!
I didn’t pre-order it (and I love a physical copy) as I didn’t know where I would be this weekend! So I’m hoping to find it in a store tomorrow, I’m not feeling positive though
Forced exp share again, makes it so easy, wish they’d make it optional.
Played for about 4 Hours last night, up to 7 hours now, just got to Veilstone City. Here's my team:
Jirachi, Level 30
Monferno, Level 31
Luxio, Level 21
Staravia, Level 20
Buizel, Level 19
My last three are egg Pokémon, so I'm grateful for the Exp-share!
I realized the original Diamond and Pearl are my two least played games, so getting a remake has been great. Anyone exploring the Grand Underground? I never played with this in the original game, some good pokemon in the Cavern from quick look, picked up a Houndoom quite early.
I also found getting Jirachi and Mew so early in the game was... strange. I never play with legendaries simply because by the time they are available, I already have my team picked out.
Trying my best to space out the play of this as I spammed Shield in the first weekend and had it finished. I got to the first gym and it took me 3 attempts lmao. Currently got Piplup and Budew in my team (yes, 3 attempts even with 2 type advantages oop).
Yeah, I'm taking my time with this game too.
Just finished the fourth badge. My team:
Floatzel - Level 27
Staravia - Level 29
Luxray - Level 32
Jirachi - Level 34
Monferno - Level 35
Manaphy - Level 20
I got the Manaphy Egg for pre-ordering the game, but will be dumping Manaphy for Gible once I get Strength.
Just finished Mt. Coronet, getting ready for the Eight Gym. Current Team:
Gabite - Level 43
Lucario - Level 51
Jirachi - Level 52
Infernape - Level 53
Luxray - Level 54
Floatzel - Level 54
Mt Coronet was a grind that's for sure.
My team at the 3rd gym is
Monferno (Level 30)
Floatzel (Level 26)
Murkrow (Level 28)
Luxio (Level 28)
Gligar (Level 29)
Still thinking of what to have in the final slot, and idk about Gligar since you can't actually evolve it until postgame which is absolute shite Why have a Pokemon that can evolve in a popular fan fave that early on (I got it before the second gym in the underground) but lock its evolution away?? I doubt I will keep Luxray either, Roserade will probably be one slot, idk about the other two yet.
Cynthia is INSANE, proper competitive movesets/items and I'm pretty sure her Pokemon are EV trained! Genuinely stumped on her to the point it feels like I'm gonna have to go away and grind loads or even add new Pokemon to my team.
I've never felt such a rush of adrenaline/challenge from a Pokemon game! My team rn is:
Infernape (65)
Floatzel (62)
Roserade (63)
Honchkrow (62)
Medicham (63)
Gligar (64)
I'm basically having to rely on luck from the buffs a Pokemon gets from walking with coming in at the clutchest times, the rest of her team I've got strats for (still need a bit of luck) but her Garchomp is just OP and I feel like I might just have to power level or replace Medicham with something that can counter Garchomp and specifically EV train it from the off which is insane to say about an official Pokemon game, it's the kind of thing you'd have to do in a fan game!
I’m enjoying the game but I’m finding the wild Pokémon you encounter a bit underwhelming? Like lots of the same in different areas. Also getting Mew so early on seems bizarre to me.
Being quite a literal remake, I too am disappointed by the wild Pokemon selection avaliable. It is literally the same pokemon every route until you hit Mt Coronet, Route 217 and beyond.
There is the underground but I feel underwhelmed by this too. Opening the "boxes" apparently will make more desirable Pokemon appear, but I haven't noticed a difference just yet. But I do need to explore more.
I was pretty set on my team for my first play, but I'm looking at mixing this up a bit in a replay.
Candy also would have been great for this game, I'm a bit under leveled and Rare Candies are as it suggests, rare in this game
It's been great to play a game with a bit of a challenge. Everything including and after Sun/Moon felt way too easy and you tend to end with a team that's over leveled.
I've played a ton of Pokemon Fan Games that are quite challenging, but I have to say playing this again - it's great to have a game with a bit of a challenge! I'd even welcome Black/White 3 (or a remake) as the next game versus a new game completly.
Ohhh. That makes sense. TBH I don't even know where to take the statues, all I know is that I have them
I'll have to check it out more once I finish the game.
Not sure of my levels but my current team is Empoleon, Roselia, Chimecho, Magneton and Drifblim.
I'm really quite disappointed at the calibre of and how repetitive the wild Pokemon are the underground is where it's at isn't it
I've really enjoyed this. I've got 6 badges now but it's not exactly been easy to get there
Finally going to take on the Pokemon League later today. Current team:
Garchomp - Level 57
Jirachi - Level 58
Lucario - Level 59
Infernape - Level 60
Floatzel - Level 61
Luxray - Level 63
I eventually beat Cynthia, I proper had to cheese it with the "x toughed it out so you wouldn't feel bad" buffs, I just happened to get like 4 of those in one battle I think I had the wrong team but I liked the team I used throughout the game and didn't want to EV train something just for Garchomp so I'm glad I did it with my squad.
Gosh yeah Cynthia was a beast.
Spiritomb and Lucario were the only two I had problems with, Spiritomb especially since I only had 1 fairy move on Jirachi, but Jirachi is weak to Spiritomb's moves so that wasn't an option.
Honestly, her Lucario is a beast. It's high speed knocked me out twice instantly.
I reset my game now to do another playthough with another team I've never used before.
I actually wanted a completly randomized team but with no Wonder Trade I had difficulties having people accept my trades with just Geodudes
Here's what I ended up with:
Shellos
Beautifly
Dratini
Bronzor
Ponyta
Swinub
I also have a Charmander, Ditto but someone traded a SHINY DIALGA for one of my Geodudes
I've just finished the 7th gym. I've tried not to train too much to make it a bit more of a challenge, but I may regret that after hearing all your posts about how tricky Cynthia is.
Empoleon - Level 47
Luxray - Level 47
Honchkrow - Level 47
Toxicroak - Level 46
Sneasel - Level 45
Cynthia requires a lot of planning if anything. The right pokemon need to have the right moves and even items.
Speed is probably most important, because Cynthia definitely 1 shot KOed a lot of my pokemon
Yeah it's doable but it's one of those where if you aren't prepared you're kinda screwed, you do need to have certain counters prepared and I didn't really have one for Garchomp so that was difficult. And it's at a point in the game where you have to grind a lot so it takes time to get something up the right level to replace a team member, so I just power levelled with who I had as I cba grinding LOADS I suppose it just makes it feel almost unfair and like an uphill battle but that's fitting for a champion battle, it would be way easier if you could easily EV train and perfect your team to counter her in that way.
My strategies ended up being:
Spiritomb - I had to just Nasty Plot with Honchkrow and brute force through with Dark Pulse, since Honchkrow resists or is immune to all of its moves, I could get 2 Nasty Plots up and one shot it. I thought this could but...
Milotic - I was gonna try and brute this too but it lived, so on another try I Taunted it with Honchkrow so it couldn't Recover and then
Gastrodon - easy one shot with Roserade
Lucario - one shot by Close Combat from Infernape
Roserade - went down in one hit to Gligar's Acrobatics
Garchomp - Ice Fang from Floatzel didn't even do half with Garchomp's berry intact, eventually I had to Knock Off its ice weakness berry with Gligar, but in doing so it got a Swords Dance up which was a death sentence. I won because of the cheese-luck that meant Floatzel lived one attack and dodged the other so it could go down
I just beat Cynthia's second rematch with little trouble as I had a fully EVd Feraligatr (max speed and attack - didn't outspeed Garchomp though) to deal with Garchomp this time
