Was the original post released from BMG promoting the anniversary?

What comes to mind when I think of this album is atmosphere, sophistication and impressive vocals. A finely produced album and one that I'm having difficultly ranking - I'd listen to the first two singles and 'Time Will Pass You By' on their own but otherwise it's an album best appreciated as a whole.
I'd say the downfall of the album would be a lack of, or at least a mismatched, personality. I think there was a lot of focus on making an album so removed from the PWL Kylie in terms of sound and style and Kylie's public image, but in the process they lost some of her character and charm. There's obviously some exceptions - I'd say the three songs I mentioned earlier are songs with the most personality - but it's evident in other songs and I think that makes it hard to believe in what Kylie's singing about, as impressive as they may be sonically.

If you mean the Spotify playlist, that was already uploaded previously. It's the 2003 special edition bonus disc.

In hindsight it was a hard album to market, as it was a big change from Kylie and it does have a mismatched personality. Such a change does take time for people to adjust to and also warm to and the main problem was people did not take to the changes overwhelmingly.

The recording sessions for this album can be split between pre and post working with Brothers in Rhythm. Kylie and the record company were unhappy with the initial material for the album so scrapped it all but one song ('Automatic Love'). Brothers in Rhythm, who had remixed 'Finer Feelings' for its single release, got in contact and together 'Confide in Me' was created, which was obviously a resounding success so the creative sessions continued.
I've listed all the songs I know to have been recorded and categorised them by producer:
KM94 1993 sessions
Saint Etienne https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWX3yW-OOJk When Are You Coming Home?
Gerry DeVeaux No Turning Back https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1PjxYpDwyo

Pete Heller & Terry Farley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNx-NUdoM4E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6rRpSm6L_M
Pet Shop Boys wrote 'Falling' and they sent in their own demo, which is very different to the final version:

I think there was a sense of Kylie having to build up her fanbase from scratch, given this was such a departure from the sound her PWL fans enjoyed and was a step into the 'credible' music world which some people may have had issue adjusting to, as if Kylie was already tarnished with the 'bubblegum pop' brush and wasn't welcome into the 'accepted' music world.
Obviously the filming for Bio-Dome really affected the album campaign too. I think the album did really well to secure a Gold certification all things considered - perhaps it would have been closer to 200k if the campaign wasn't interrupted?

There was a level of Kylie having to build a new fan base on this release which is a very good point. Not many of her fans pre KM94 crossed over with her at that time. I would find it interesting to know if the fans she gained on her Light Years return were mainly former fans or just a whole new set of fans in general.

Can remember buying this on cassette wow 25 years.
Dangerous Game was always the best track by far for me. Confide In Me has such an electrifying instrumental though I can see why they chose it as the first single.

I remember buying the cassette on release day and I've always lived rge cover, maybe more so than the album itself.

The cover is extremely slick and captivating. It is one of her best album covers that oozes sophistication.
Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Sep 20 2019, 08:30 PM
Very sophisticated I agree and that image worked very well for her.

I love the cover too! The suit symbolises her growth and maturity but there's still a sexual and playful side to her. It's a striking pose too, emphasised by the black and white and just her and the title.

Just listened to this for the first time . It really wasn’t what I was expecting!! Way more poppier than I thought it would be .
Preferred impossible princess. The middle of this album is bland and forgettable.
I preferred the acoustic version on WITF
Falling stood out. The songs on this album are very long.

I love that you are only just listening to Kylie classics now Vibe!
KM94 is a decent album but a bit over the place, Impossible Princess is my favourite Kylie album - perfection IMO.

As a huge pop / diva fan I have not listened to Kylie albums in full ever. Maybe being a huge Madonna fan stopped me ?
I have seen her live twice in concert , so decided to listen to a couple today. Music is always on in my house and it gave me something to do in lockdown .
I have loved Dannii since I fell in love with Emma Jackson however 😉
I do own Ultimate Kylie lol

I get the Madonna reference! I’ve always been the same in reverse - zero support for Madonna

We are opposites !!! Haha

I would be in the middle, i like some Madonna songs, i bought 3 of her studio albums, Like a prayer, confessions on the dance and Ray of Light and i like these albums and i bought the immaculate collection and celebration, but alot of her other stuff i only find ok or dont like at all, her madame x album from what i have listened to i dont like in any way. Kylie in general has always floated my boat.

Here's my review for this album that I wrote a while ago in another topic =
Confide In Me The new Kylie sound starts here with this one song and something completely different to what she's done before, this mixture of dance/indie-pop/trip-hop sounds goes against everything that Kylie's done before and while it can take some getting used to (even to some of the more hardened Kylie fans), It really draws you in with some brilliant production and some wonderful arrangement, as well as some eastern influences and twangs are intermixed with a full string orchestra and haunting vocals from Kylie herself, hitting notes and taking her voice places it had never been before. Creating something well and truly epic and of course this had to be the lead single as nothing else would have worked to this level. A truly unforgettable moment that opened a whole new chapter and a rebirth.
Surrender This is again different with some breathy sexy vocals and some seductive lyrics and along with a nice 90's dance beat running throughout. A very decent album track and an interesting style for Kylie to take.
If I Was Your Lover Picking up the pace with this more funky and harder edged dance sound that further showcases Kylie's new diversity, with some more breathy and saucy vocals, and there's even a slight hint of a classy R&B sound, that therefore creates one of the most interesting songs on this album as well as some great production by Jimmy Harry and perhaps could have made a great single choice, as its a definite standout moment on here.
Where Is The Feeling The 3rd single and final single, released 8 months after the last and completely revamped from the version that sits here. Again this uses that typical 90's dance sound and a lot more pop sounding that we've heard so far. Its light and quite fun and bounces along at an okay pace, but at nearly 7 minutes long, this can be a bit of a slog to get through.
Put Yourself In My Place Needle scratching opens up this next track, and then some electric guitars, some superb keyboards and synthesizers laden this down tempo number and build to an awesome chorus. This was the album's 2nd single and a definite spot on choice, with its very classy and stylish sound and some fantastic powerful vocals from Kylie throughout, this has to be one of the greatest songs she has ever recorded, and of course that amazing music video that again has to be one of her best. Truly outstanding song and video.
Dangerous Game Another great track now that begins with some tender vocals and then a crescendo of intense, solid, power vocals with superb string accompaniment. With production from Brothers In Rhythm, this is yet another great example of Kylie leaving behind the past and taking herself and her voice in new and ‘dangerous’ directions.
Automatic Love After two ballads the pace picks up with this classy little number, complete with strings and great drum beat. Yet again, Kylie’s voice is outstanding and despite some questionable lyrics that I would have to say are pretty advanced for '94 and makes for a very memorable track, this is dare I say it, yet another standout moment.
Where Has The Love Gone A very chilled dance anthem that's nearly 8 minutes long and definitely outstays its welcome, but Kylie's vocals are soulful and commanding on this track, even if it is one of the weaker moments on here.
Falling Again I wouldn't rank this as one of the album's stronger moments, but this does have a nice chilled dance beat and a hypnotic rhythm, and plus thanks to The Pet Shop Boys there is some great writing on here, but find the production doesn't really connect with the concept of the track, just sounding very generic, over-long and very filler-ish.
Time Will Pass You By Closing the album on an almighty bang, after a couple of fillers we get a gorgeous uplifting dance anthem and along with Kylie's joyful vocals as she advises us to enjoy every moment of life, and she really sells it with some wonderful production by M People, as this has that definite feel of one of their songs, but Kylie does manage to put her own stamp on it and its just great. This was scheduled to be a single, but sadly never happened, as this could have definitely breathed new life into this era, and imagine a cracking music video to go along with it, then this could have easily been another firm Kylie classic.
