BuzzJack Music Forum _ Movies and Theatre _ PREDICTA: 'Pitch Perfect 2'

Posted by: Jonjo 30th April 2015, 12:29 AM

Up next is the film that has been topping the "BuzzJack Hype Chart" for a while now and it's, of course 'PITCH PERFECT 2'!

How do we think this one will do on it's opening weekend? A few things you may need to consider before predicting...

- The first film in the franchise opened to £947,058 in the UK and $5,149,433 in the US.
- It was a BIG sleeper hit as (despite it's relatively weak openings) it has gone on to gross well over $110m WW!
- It seems to have a big cult following.
- Whenever they've released a trailer for the film, it's gone on to be a big Social Networking trend!

Will all of this translate into a big second film for them? Or are we expecting it to flop on it's behind?

I am going to predict big and go for...

Around $27.3m for the US and around £2.8m for the UK!

It would not surprise me if they actually did a lot more though!

Don't want to over-estimate this based on Buzzjack hype and how much of a success 'Cups' was in the US (although it was a big thing on social media in the UK too!), but I think it can clear the £4m mark in the UK, something like £4.2m.

And $25m in the US.

Going for:
UK: £3.8M
US: $41.2M

Anyone else want to take any guesses for this film? biggrin.gif

Posted by: Juranamo 2nd May 2015, 01:58 PM

US | $27.5M
UK | £2.1M

Something tells me it won't have a HUGE opening in the UK, I would like it to though...

That is huge for a film like this! A big hit for a film that's not a blockbuster ('Avengers'/'Fast & Furious'/'Harry Potter' etc..) usually ranges from £2m - £4m!

UK 2.7M
US 33M

~$28m US
~$2.6m UK

Supposedly tracking close to $50M in America ohmy.gif

I think it will do really well first weekend but drop off really quickly due to shit reviews ala 50 Shades Of Grey. I dunno why, I just have a feeling it'll be shit but I am hoping to be proved wrong.

This has smashed in Australia- $7.6M which is a 348% increase from the first movie

Changing my predictions to:
UK: £4.20M
US: $48.4M

Posted by: Jonjo 10th May 2015, 04:52 PM

Can you change my US prediction to $40m+ please (I predicted $25m - $29.99m)? I'm going to keep my UK prediction of £2.8m!
