She couldn't have thought of ONE word apart from sp**z for the opening verse of her latest single? She's not delivering this era at all.

Wow, this is a serious misfire.
I hope it's just a grat/promo track rather than an actual single. |

This is easily the worst thing she's ever done for me
Agree with Josh that "s***" is a CHOICE. |

Its a fairly catchy track, but because of the slur i don't want to listen to it and i'm not looking forward to the album much anymore. she easily could've used a different word, so unnecessary

i think 'spaz' was used in a different context on 4, 5 Seconds? As in she was about to combust... not in allude to someone's disability.

sp*z
/sp*z/ OFFENSIVE noun noun: sp*z; noun: sp*zz; plural noun: sp*zzes short for sp*stic. verb US verb: sp*z; verb: sp*zz; 3rd person present: sp*zzes; past tense: sp*zzed; past participle: sp*zzed; gerund or present participle: sp*zzing lose physical or emotional control. The songwriters, who are almost all from the US, must have had the second definition in mind and apparently didn't think of how the word is considered as only being offensive in other countries. As noted it was also used in FourFiveSeconds. With that context in mind I would give Lizzo the benefit of the doubt that she might have been unaware of the offensive nature of the word, what with her being an American. Though it is interesting that the song got released with seemingly no one on her label/team flagging it up as an ableist slur. |

i think 'spaz' was used in a different context on 4, 5 Seconds? As in she was about to combust... not in allude to someone's disability. I'm pretty sure it is the exact same context in both songs (i.e. the second definition posted by Jay above). Perhaps someone on her team should have been aware of the other more offensive meaning of the word to pre-emptively avoid the backlash but I'd be pretty confident saying there wasn't any bad intent behind her use of the word here - that's cool that she has acknowledged and responded to the people calling it out anyway though. |

Yeah, they’re out in a month so will already be printed. Not a lot they can do about that though.
