It's a first week on top for 1991 top 10 track Jealousy, a classic orchestral ballad that grows, and grows with time, and with prestige, for me. With such a vast quality back catalogue, it's no surprise that reissues give me a chance to let under-appreciated gems from Pet Shop Boys do better, and this one deserved better at the time. In terms of decades, all-time faves, it's Beatles for the 60's, Abba for the 70's, Pet Shop Boys for the 80's, 90's, 00's and most likely the 10's too, though it's a bit early to judge yet, but I hear new music is on the way once the 2-year-tour is done (I saw it 3 times). Tame Impala get a 4th top 10 and 6th top 20, Mercury Rev a 3rd top 10 18 years since the last one, Wicked games topped my chart in 1990 for Chris Issak and returns for REIGN to the top 10, and Mary Poppins pops in to my top 10. Superfragilisticexpialidocious! Highest new entry is Jack Savoretti, his 8th chart feature, and it's a very welcome & unlikely return to The Specials (well, the Fun Boy Two plus a Special, really) for the first time in 34 years with new material, though Terry Hall chartered in the interim with Colourfield and topped my charts with The Lightning Seeds' Sense in 1992, as well as Fun Boy Three's Our Lips Are Sealed in 1983 and Special's Ghost Town in 1981. Fun Boy Three had 2 hits with Bananarama, and kick-started their career, so it's bizarre they also return this week after reuniting for a tour - and then just the 2 long-serving Keren and Sarah doing the new album yet again, sadly. The 'Nanas have been away for 7 years, though they grabbed 7 21st century chart entries to add to their oodles in the 80's and 90's. James Morrison has been MIA from my charts since 2011, but gets his 7th entry 8 years on, along with Joss Stone getting an 11th (ignoring charity combos) and her first since 2012. James has 13 years of charting, Joss 15 years and she's barely over 30! Charlotte Gainsbourg gets a second chart entry - which is one more than her chart-topping parents ever managed! Je T'Aime! Carly Rae returns for a 6th on the list, and The Killers keep that run going with a political statement 15 years on from debut, and 14 years on from topping my chart. Brandon Flowers has topped more times solo, though, and they have a very long run of hits over a decade and a half. 1 3 1 2 JEALOUSY (ALBUM VERSION) Pet Shop Boys 255000 2 1 1 9 THIS FEELING Chainsmokers featuring Kelsea Ballerini 546000 3 4 2 8 NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART Mark Ronson featuring Miley Cyrus 591050 4 2 1 7 GOODBYE TO LOVE Carpenters & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra 975000 5 8 5 4 BOUNCE Albin Lee Meldau 165500 6 6 6 4 LOST CONTROL Alan Walker & Sorana 171500 7 14 7 3 WICKED GAMES RAIGN 96100 8 27 8 4 ONLY YOU Theophilus London featuring Tame Impala 91500 9 12 9 4 SERMON Mercury Rev featuring Margo Price 117100 10 16 10 3 (UNDERNEATH THE) LOVELY LONDON SKY Lin-Manuel Miranda 77100 11 7 1 14 DIAMOND HEART Alan Walker & Sophia Somajo 916500 12 9 6 7 E-LO Los Unidades (Coldplay) & Pharrell Williams featuring Jozzy 236650 13 10 3 8 SURVIVE Don Diablo featuring Emeli Sande & Gucci Mane 439200 14 11 7 10 BREATHE Camelphat & Cristoph featuring Jem Cooke 245800 15 20 15 3 I’LL NEVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN Tom Jones 64500 16 15 1 12 SHADOWS Black Atlass 749000 17 31 17 2 MY OCTOBER SYMPHONY Pet Shop Boys 40900 18 5 5 9 EVERLASTING LOVE The Love Affair 224800 19 21 19 3 BARCELONA Andy Burrows & Matt Haig 60000 20 23 20 3 NO PLACE Backstreet Boys 51750 21 13 1 9 TRUE LOVE WAYS Buddy Holly & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra 593750 22 22 6 11 THANK YOU, NEXT Ariana Grande 418800 23 17 7 12 BRAZILIAN SOUL The Knocks featuring Sofi Tukker 416250 24 24 24 8 DREAM ON Aerosmith 106900 25 18 18 4 EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD Trevor Horn featuring The Sarm Orchestra & Robbie Williams 72000 26 26 26 4 WHEN THE PARTY’S OVER Billie Eilish 67300 27 29 27 2 HOPE IS A DANGEROUS THING Lana Del Ray 36600 28 40 28 2 GIANT Calvin Harris & Rag’n’Bone Man 35300 29 37 29 4 LOVELY Billie Eilish & Khalid 52100 30 39 30 4 SIXTEEN Thomas Rhett 47900 31 38 31 3 REFLECTIONS OF MY LIFE Marmalade 48350 32 36 32 4 MAY LOVE TRAVEL WITH YOU Paul Weller 59400 33 NEW 33 1 CANDLELIGHT Jack Savoretti 17700 34 30 15 9 YOU’RE GONNA MISS ME Connie Francis 185350 35 54 35 4 HOLA (I SAY) Marco Mengoni featuring Tom Walker 39900 36 50 36 4 LOVE HAS ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE Jade Bird 51700 37 72 37 2 DANCING WITH A STRANGER Sam Smith & Normani 22900 38 43 32 10 SWEET BUT PSYCHO Ava Max 111800 39 46 39 4 COO COO COO Santigold 52250 40 44 40 4 WE APPRECIATE POWER Grimes featuring HANA 44250 41 25 1 11 DRIVE (SYMPHONIC VERSION) The Cars 794500 42 19 7 7 DOES THE HOMOSAPIEN KNOW Abba vs Pete Shelley 227750 43 33 9 9 RISE Raaginder 213750 44 56 44 2 HELLO MY LOVE Westlife 23850 45 34 19 8 FAVELA Ina Wroldsen & Alok 128350 46 63 46 3 PLAY Jax Jones & Years & Years 25150 47 35 4 14 STARFISH Rhys featuring FELIX SANDMAN 495500 48 41 13 12 BABY Clean Bandit featuring Marina & The Diamonds & Luis Fonzi 229200 49 28 28 10 OOH LA LA The Faces 118600 50 53 50 3 TRIP A LITTLE LIGHT FANTASTIC Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emily Blunt, Tarik Frimpong, Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, Nathaneal Saleh & Leeries 28650 51 32 8 9 IT’S FOR YOU Cilla Black with The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra 237750 52 58 52 3 LONELY NIGHTS (ANGEL FACE) Captain & Tennille 29200 53 61 53 2 WITHOUT ME Halsey 18750 54 47 3 11 ARREST THE PRESIDENT Ice Cube 354100 55 64 55 3 I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO LIKE ME Robbie Williams 22900 56 62 56 4 NORMAL BOY Boyzone 29400 57 NEW 57 1 VOTE FOR ME The Specials 10400 58 NEW 58 1 STARTED OUT Georgia 10200 59 45 33 7 BACK ON THE CHAIN GANG Morrissey 86900 60 59 1 31 HEY LOOK MA, I MADE IT Panic! Haha I knew Bananarama would be entering your chart this week, thought they would have entered a bit higher though.
Unfortunately its not actually dance music, but it's a good electropop song though. Javelin (Calling Out Your Name) is great fun and 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' is great and different to anything else in the charts at the minute, easily the best thing I have heard from Miley Cyrus. It reminds me of First Aid Kit which is a very good thing! |

Just commented on your chart from last week oops so I might as well give this one a bump!
Great to see Candlelight enter, I've just discovered it this week and it really is another wonderful song from him Such a shame he doesn't get any chart success. Started Out was one of the tracks I quite enjoyed from the last BJSC! Okay I must confess I didn't realise The Specials were still a thing! It's very much their old sound, an interesting piece! Great chart |

Wonderful number one, it's such an underrated track from their back catalogue. I prefer the extended version but the album version is just fine too.
How are you enjoying the remasters? Which have you gone for? |

Hi Snakey I like the Nanas new one but you're right it's not a strong dance beat, but its a nice electropop effort Javelin is good but it's minimal hook has had it's run in my mind replay - the thumping rhythm is great though. Mark Ronson would be topping my charts if not for oldies this week, oops! First Aid Kit are always good, yes indeed, so can't be bad! |

Hi Jordan Glad you like the Chainsmokers/Kelsea track, I thought I was the only one! Dream On has that epic finish, I always enjoy a song that builds to a scream Thomas Rhett is always good, shame he hasnt hit over here yet, when some lesser country acts get more exposure on Radio 2. Ice Cube is a brand new fab slag off of Trump. I like playing it loud to family to shock the kids My 27-year-old nephew was surprised I liked it (cos he already liked it), hah! I"ve done my EOY chart for Buzzjack as requested, Joy came 9th for the year, and my edited (no oldies) top 100 list for 2018 will follow soon and Joy will def feature in that too. I don't like listing a year till chart runs have ended, but it's more or less accurate... cheers! |

Started Out was one of the tracks I quite enjoyed from the last BJSC! Okay I must confess I didn't realise The Specials were still a thing! It's very much their old sound, an interesting piece! Great chart Hi Pete, thanks for commenting twice! From t'other one, yes Catfish & The Bottlemen took me by surprise when it charted. especially since it's bigger on streaming than downloads! Hope for the rock future! Chainsmokers I liked but was surprised to find I rate it as much as their best tracks, though I seem alone in that! Jack Sav is more of an album and Radio 2 success, so there's at least that as compensation till the streaming audience pulls in older music fans in large numbers. One day....! Started Out, I have to admit, slipped by me, but it's fab! I owe it some more points then! The Specials warm my heart with this new track, it's very much Specials late 1980 around the time of Stereotypes and Do Nothing, and sounds like nothing anybody else is creating these days. So top of a field of one then cheers for all the comments! |

Which have you gone for? Hi dandy, hope you're feeling a bit more refreshed and less sleepless stressed!! I love the single version of Jealousy (with full orchestra) best but I'd already charted that one (and under-rated it at the time). I'm loving all the remasters, I've bought the lot, cherry-picking tracks as I get round to them chronologically - as they all made the UK top 100 albums on reissue they still qualify for my charts but I didn't want uncharted tracks swamping my charts all in one go, so I'm spreading them out a bit till the next new album turns up... cheers! |

Fantastic chart as ever Thanks AH as ever for the long list and compliments, and no worries Ive not had time to properly go through yours and others charts, just cherry-pick acts I like till I can get some serious charts searching going on I'm OK ta, hope you good, had some stress this month with mum but she had a relative good day today so I'm hoping she's picking up a bit so I can stop getting anxious! I realy dont know why jealousy didn;t top my charts first time round when it should have! cheers! john |
