While 800k is pretty good for a snooker semi-final in this day and age, it's hard not to think of it in the context of the figures it once got.

F1 final will be broadcast on C4 after a deal with Sky, seems like it could get a pretty hefty rating.

13.1m for Boris's narcissism broadcast. 4.3m C4 peak for F1 final. |

Wow that's a huge drop for IAC compared to last year / its usual standard although I'm not too surprised considering the general reception, I think people are ready for a jungle return now.
Also from yesterday - that new Simon Cowell show Walk The Line got 3 million viewers and Strictly Results Show 9.8 million - looking forward to seeing what the final of the latter will achieve this weekend, there's a lot of goodwill surrounding the quality of the finalists. |

They’re not going to revolve their entire annual schedule around Doctor Who
 It doesn’t really make a difference anyway as this series led into Strictly aka the BBC’s most reliable and popular entertainment show. Less people are watching a show on the specific timeslot, I remember discussion for other series that the actual ‘live’ viewers who watched it as it aired was at least 1m less than the overnights. |

Line of Duty isn't due to be on screen til 2023 and you'd imagine they'd one to get it out around then anyway. Putting Doctor Who in that sort of slot. It led into the Strictly results though, which consistently underrates the main show. It seems like cancellation is within grasp for with those Season 39 figures, if Season 40 is anywhere near as bad. And let's be honest that wouldn't be the worst thing - I ended up watching this series on iplayer after it had finished - the first time I've not watched episodes live when I've had the option since the show came back on air and that's largely to do with the timeless children bollocks. |

Not to mention that it doesn't need "saving" in the first place...! Comparing to almost 60 years of ratings is entirely pointless. The BBC are not going to cancel the show that's been their biggest (non-soap) drama for the past 6 weeks

There’s sooo many factors to think of in scheduling. Call the Midwife and the BBC One Line of Duty series have outrated all new series of Doctor Who so you would be overshadowing the series and drowning it out amongst hype for those shows. You want the show to be, if possible, the focus of the day. Strictly’s results show does lower than the Saturday show but it’s still over 8m and amongst the highest on TV now. Also, schedulers aren’t going to out all their high profile shows for the year on one night - they’re going to space them out and use them as a springboard for new shows.
This is literally the worst time to talk about cancellation as we know the show is lasting until at least 2024. How many other dramas get to say that? If it was in so much danger then this is a perfect end point for the show with the departure of the main cast and the producers. Instead, they’ve asked for an additional episode and creating a whole new springboard for the show from 2023. RTD is so passionate about the show that he wouldn’t want to be the person who revived it and then killed it again

No it won’t because it’s all comparative! Jodie had higher to fall from than Capaldi, ratings across the board are largely in a different place and it’s performing similarly on the weekly charts in terms of position. I’m not blinded that it’s not at it’s peak and that it could be doing better but it’s a drama that’s soon celebrating 60 years and has been on for 16 years in it’s current iteration, outlasting hundreds of shows during that time. It’s extremely rare for a drama to maintain high ratings. I think dramas like Silent Witness, Call the Midwife and Death in Paradise are the only ones really coming to mind but none of them have ever played a real part in pop culture.
The ones in charge of actually making the decision have ordered an additional episode to be one of the centrepieces of their 100th birthday celebrations as well as preparing plans for the show for at least up to three more years. That’s a huge showing of confidence in the show. It just makes little sense to be so concerned at this stage in light of the BBC’s continued confidence in it. They’re literally making the decision, not anyone else

Ratings are pretty low all round this Christmas, however that might have something to do with a 4 day bank holiday. Walked past a few pubs over the past few days and they were busier than any time I've seen them in the whole pandemic. I guess people prioritising things that might soon be taken away from them over Christmas.
8.96m for the Queens Speech winning the day. 5.78m for Strictly second. ITV's highest entry being 3.25m for Corrie (overnights) in 8th. ITV deffo need a rethink next year.... Perhaps something like: 5.30pm News 6.00pm Emmerdale 7.00pm - Coronation Street 8.00pm - Ant and Decs Christmas Takeaway 9.30pm - Who Wants to Be A Millionaire At Christmas 10.30pm - News This post has been edited by Chartfridays: Dec 27 2021, 01:56 PM |
