The favourites to win
It's the widest open Melodifestivalen has been for a long time however certain entries have started to emerge from the pack as favourites. Wiktoria is the favourite with most bookies and is the highest on Spotify as of now. Nano is favoured by Paddy Power and has been rising on Spotify throughout the week so could well challenge for the victory. Other favourites include Jon Henrik Fjällgren and Robin Bengtsson.

Posted by: Conderella Mar 10 2017, 11:02 PM

I have a terrible feeling Anton will be top three with an outside chance of winning.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 10 2017, 11:05 PM

12. Boris René – Her Kiss 22 röster/votes 3,83 %

A disappointment for Jon Henrik. sad.gif I can't have Nano winning, would be worse than Frans for me so COME THRU WIKTORIA

Posted by: ScottyEm Mar 11 2017, 12:25 AM

Robin would be fantastic. Nano would be satisfactory.

Wictoria would be such a let down, it's so bloody shril and she can't hold a tune. She's likely to win the televote but I part-suspect the juries won't be enthralled? If she pips it, this would the second consecutive year that Sweden don't even come close to my top ten Eurovision.

Posted by: Iz~ Mar 11 2017, 12:31 AM

On the contrary for me, Wiktoria would give us a stunning melody and exciting pop song for Sweden, I'd definitely be behind that and looking at that genrep, it's about my only good option.

Nano would be alright, it's certainly anthemic but would feel a little underwhelming.

The next three would be absolutely intolerable. I am so bored of the prospect of I Can't Go On, while his song last year was rousing, this one is lifeless to the core and I blame that all on the lyrics, they have no kick to them whatsoever and just feel embarrassing to listen to. Anton and Benjamin would be even worse for being clones of some of the styles of pop music I hate most.

Posted by: LexC Mar 11 2017, 01:19 AM

Considering that Ace and Mariette seem to be out of it I'm placing myself firmly on team Wiktoria. I can really see a situation arising like 2015 where the standard in the main contest is found so wanting that even Sweden's B+/A- game is enough for them to snatch the win almost on autopilot (and frankly I've got many reasons to suspect that the dancing Gorilla isn't the vote magnet everyone thinks it is).

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 08:26 AM

Yeah out of those contenders it definitely should be Wiktoria (yes, with a k, ScottyEm) today. No other option really. Still feeling Anton has a big chance to slay.

Didn't realise Zara Larson was performing on this tonight! Nice to see them making ties with her for whenever her career goes a bit south laugh.gif

Posted by: ScottyEm Mar 11 2017, 12:19 PM

Getting the spelling of her name wrong does probably prove I'm somewhat disinterested in her song then. It's by no means the worst, i just think my "meh" attitude towards it is heightened by the fact there are better songs IMO.

And to rub salt... I love Good Lovin. Although Ingrosso is the weakest link.

Posted by: Ryan. Mar 11 2017, 05:45 PM

Final prediction with jury/televote breakdown (there isn't a direct correspondence between the breakdown positions and overall position due to televote's predicted tightness:

Place (Jury Televote) Song
01 (01 03) Nano - Hold On
02 (02 02) Wiktoria - As I Lay Me Down
03 (03 04) Robin Bengtsson - I Can't Go On
04 (04 01) Jon Henrik Fjällgren ft. Aninia - En värld full av strider (Eatneme gusnie jeenh dåaroeh)
05 (05 05) Benjamin Ingrosso - Good Lovin'
06 (08 07) Anton Hagman - Kiss You Goodbye
07 (06 09) Mariette - A Million Years
08 (07 11) Ace Wilder - Wild Child
09 (09 08) FO&O - Gotta Thing About You
10 (10 10) Lisa Ajax - I Don't Give A
11 (11 12) Boris René - Her Kiss
12 (12 06) Owe Thörnqvist - Boogieman Blues

Posted by: imaflop Mar 11 2017, 05:54 PM

The fact that Robin isn't going to walk this is a complete travesty.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 06:11 PM

I'll take any winner BUT Nano :/

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 06:12 PM

Even Boris? Are you sure Adam? Let's not say things you will regret

Posted by: gooddelta Mar 11 2017, 06:13 PM

Here in the arena! Loads of support and signs for Nano (argh). Even kids seem to be raving over him for some reason!

Maybe he'll impress me more live.

Really rooting for Wiktoria but not expecting her to win by any means.

Posted by: Ryan. Mar 11 2017, 06:16 PM

Maybe because I had lower expectations for him, but Jon Henrik was my standout performance live in the arena last night! Nano and Wiktoria seemed to have about the same levels of support, and there were lots of kids supporting the young boys and Lisa.

Posted by: gooddelta Mar 11 2017, 06:31 PM

I'm seeing tons of support for Lisa from young kids too, quite hilarious considering the (original) lyrics! I guess the F-bomb isn't really a problem here!

I can't see a single banner or poster in here for poor Ace drama.gif

Posted by: LexC Mar 11 2017, 06:35 PM

I remember reading that they don't really have any censoring of rude language in Sweden, to the point where Swedes don't really realize how filthy their language is sometimes!

Posted by: SevenSeize Mar 11 2017, 06:55 PM

gonna try and watch this tonight~ come on Robin & the Treadmills, let's give Sweden a winner they can be proud of *.*

(Nano or Ace would be cool too, basically something to beat that intensely average Wiktoria song)

Posted by: Lee_J11 Mar 11 2017, 06:59 PM

Firmly in the 'anything but Nano' camp.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:01 PM

IT'S TIME *.*

Posted by: Iz~ Mar 11 2017, 07:02 PM

Am ready for a good night and a tense evening of results - even if I may not be able to catch it all exactly live.

And I'm in the 'anything but teen pop & Robin' camp

Posted by: Alpha. Mar 11 2017, 07:05 PM

Of the main contenders I'm definitely supporting Jon Henrik tonight but I would be thrilled if Ace or Mariette could manage a shock win. I'm fully expecting a Nano and Wiktoria top 2, but I can't say I'm that fond of either of them.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:06 PM

The opening numbers have been awful this year.

Posted by: Iz~ Mar 11 2017, 07:07 PM

On the contrary, this is quite the bop. I like kitchen sink music.

Posted by: Martyn Mar 11 2017, 07:07 PM

Got my mum watching this tonight.

Posted by: LexC Mar 11 2017, 07:11 PM

NU KÖR VI!!!!!

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:13 PM

I can't believe Wild Child is going to be limping in at 8th, it's by far and away the best song and should be going DIREKT TILL KYIV

Posted by: Iz~ Mar 11 2017, 07:14 PM

Ugh, if there was any justice this would be storming it to the win, it's easily Ace's best entry for me now and probably the best of this year.

She's so charismatic on the stage too, connect, damnit.

Posted by: Martyn Mar 11 2017, 07:15 PM

It's not as good as Busy Doing Nothing.

My mum wants to know who styled her.

Posted by: Alex! Mar 11 2017, 07:16 PM

Wild Child is such a BOP. I can't cope, its so good.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:18 PM

THIS SHOULD BE QUEENAH NAH RIGHT NOW

Posted by: SevenSeize Mar 11 2017, 07:19 PM

Wild Child is a wonderful way to kick things off yahoo.gif by far the best of the female entries

Posted by: Iz~ Mar 11 2017, 07:20 PM

This is really quite rousing. It did beat some slightly better songs for the final but it's by no means something that stands out as being bad. The improvement from last year for him is tenfold.

This tbh

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:22 PM

Her Kiss is even more annoying than it's been in andra chansen and the semis

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:25 PM

Not as maximal as 'My Heart Wants Me Dead' but this is still really f***ing good.

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:25 PM

This was the best performance of Lisa <3

Posted by: Qween Mar 11 2017, 07:25 PM

I'M HERE

Posted by: Qween Mar 11 2017, 07:26 PM

I really like I Don't Give A as a song, but it works so much better in the studio form I think.

Posted by: Iz~ Mar 11 2017, 07:27 PM

I Don't Give A is a song I struggle to find anything interesting to say about except 'ooh, unnecessary swearing is bad'.

Oh, and Lisa's fit. That's about it.

Posted by: alt-Jade ∆ Mar 11 2017, 07:27 PM

Ace clearly the best so far *.* Boris was pretty cringe and Lisa's song felt a bit try-hard with the forced swearing. Good songs again plz

Posted by: Cal Mar 11 2017, 07:29 PM

Really like this. It has grown on me massively and I wouldn't mind seeing it win.

Posted by: Qween Mar 11 2017, 07:31 PM

If Wiktoria doesn't win, I'm fully behind this now. It's no Constellation Prize but it's SEHR good.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:31 PM

I'll take a Robin victory if it's the only way to stop Nano, otherwise, next pls x

Posted by: Martyn Mar 11 2017, 07:31 PM

Robin is my favourite so far.

Posted by: Iz~ Mar 11 2017, 07:32 PM

Sounded better than before but I Can't Go On would be really quite a shit winner. The song still rubs me up the wrong way.

Posted by: Cal Mar 11 2017, 07:33 PM

This BABE!

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:34 PM

This is so slick. I don't want it to win but he can finish 5th or something

Posted by: Qween Mar 11 2017, 07:35 PM

Much as this POCKET POOF has improved massively since the last time he was here, I really hope this doesn't win. 3rd-5th will be fine.

Posted by: alt-Jade ∆ Mar 11 2017, 07:36 PM

Jon Henrik easily my favourite so far now wub.gif sorry Ace.

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:37 PM

Sounds very 3rd placey but not exactly winnery.

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:39 PM

Posted by: LexC Mar 11 2017, 07:41 PM

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:42 PM

The heart died towards the end. Oops

Posted by: Qween Mar 11 2017, 07:42 PM

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:46 PM

A shame Mariette seems to have lost all the hype, this would be a really good winner.

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:47 PM

TEAM MARIETTE OR DEATH

Posted by: Martyn Mar 11 2017, 07:47 PM

My mum pointed out that Mariette looks like Carla from Cheers and I can't not see it.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:49 PM

Would be SO HERE for a FO&O win, COME ON TEENAGE GIRLS AND GAYS OF SVERIGE

Posted by: Qween Mar 11 2017, 07:50 PM

Poor brave Mariette, easily one of the best songs this year.

Posted by: Qween Mar 11 2017, 07:51 PM

How thoughtless of FO&O not to include at least ONE attractive member, it's boyband rule #1

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:52 PM

Is the heart completely dead during the last 40 seconds of all songs?!

Posted by: Cal Mar 11 2017, 07:54 PM

Five songwriters and this is still awful.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 11 2017, 07:54 PM

I suppose I should resign myself to this winning

Posted by: Melobrama Mar 11 2017, 07:55 PM

Oh waiT this Nano song is actually really good. A bit of a Rudimental feat. Rag'n'Bone Man jam. This to win if Jon can't

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 07:55 PM

Yeah we can start preparing ourselves for it entering Eurovision. Wiktoria better deliver

Posted by: Qween Mar 11 2017, 07:56 PM

This is obviously a very good song and the staging/lighting for it is FAB, but with so many poptastic joys to choose from it would be such a dull winner.

UK jury are good. Ukraine jury have a good 12.

Mariette, Ace and Jon Henrik all doing okay on the jury is good.

I am really worried at Robin being so far ahead, that would be so much worse a winner than Hold On for me, haul him over, televotes.

Posted by: RobBob Mar 11 2017, 08:36 PM

I Can't Go On will do great at Eurovision with that stage performance, I think I called this partially to Adam the other day. I didn't call SUCH an underperformance for Wiktoria though. Christ.

It's not a runaway with the juries. Glad to see Boogie Man Blues dying in the juries though.

Be interesting to see how the public vote plays out. Didn't Oscar only come third on it last year?

Posted by: LexC Mar 11 2017, 08:42 PM

Robin's basically won at this point. Nano might have overtaken on the public vote but not enough to leap over a 20 point deficit and Wiktoria's too far behind.

Either way, I still think Sweden are winning again.

Bit of a crapshoot really but they tend to like current-sounding songs and things with wide appeal (hence why I always get so annoyed at their choices). Swedish televoters almost always have better taste.

They also shoot down boyband songs/take-the-piss entries like Samir & Viktor, but to me they seem to be current-sounding songs (although with not wide appeal I agree).

Doesn't explain Wiktoria tho as I thought it sounds v current and is a type of pop song that would have wide appeal!

I'm happy. Robin JUST released his song on Spotify for me. I hate to say it, I was rooting for Wiktoria... but it's not as sugary sweet as her song.
I think the right song won tonight (and this is coming from someone that gave Robin 0 points last year in Buzzfestivalen).
I fully anticipate he will represent Sweden well.

It was made to increase quality in general by cutting some no hopers. Plus having more variety in the final is always better.

I don't think reducing from 8 to 7 has cut the no hopers out. In 3 of the four heats this year there was such an obvious bottom 2 it hurt and in two of those three there was a pretty obvious 5th place as well.

Posted by: Conderella Mar 11 2017, 11:03 PM

Yeah let's just get rid of the entire thing and make a top 5 final and be done with it. Are you proposing that? I don't get your point.

My point is, if cutting the heats from 8 acts to 7 was to increase quality, it hasn't worked. As in most of them since the change the bottom 2 has been obvious before anyone sings, yes you get the occasional surprise, but in a year like this with less than steller presenters it feels like they are filling the gap of the 8th song with shit.

My other point with the andra chansen songs is. Despite doubling the amount of songs getting through, this year none of them made any impact on the leader board.

I do think they should go back to 10 songs in the final, as the votes going to two of the andra chansen songs (that all ended up bottom 5) could actually change the outcome of the final result. The 61 points I Don't Give A and Her Kiss (the bottom 2 with the Swedish public) could in theory change the result.

Posted by: Ryan. Mar 11 2017, 11:19 PM

Robin was my 2nd favourite so happy with the result, especially as Wiktoria was nowhere near!

I think the app vote does render the televoting useless as I feared, they can keep the app voting but they need to revert to giving the points out in a preset system. Like what they did pre-2011 ish? I didn't watch it back then, but know they used to give out like 144-122-100 or whatever it was. They need to do that again I think even if it is a step backwards.

We will always get "obvious" last placers unless semis consist of 1 song.

The purpose of this show is to not necessarily have a surprise upon a surprise in each semi and then have andra chansen finalists all storm the leaderboard and slay in top 5 positions. Yes, it's a bit boring when andra chansen finalists are doomed from the start but it's not always the case.

They also need to have a variation there to draw as many viewers as possible. Hence the Owes, Sara Vargas, Dismisseds, etc.

The problem is that the votes are super close these days so those 61 points would probably just get redistributed almost equally between the rest of the finalists.

star quality + excellent staging + confidently handsome man + strong hooky instrumental + slick convincing performance = a deserved winner and an excellent package

Posted by: Melobrama Mar 12 2017, 12:48 AM

I've had a change of heart and am now supporting Robin to win Eurovision. because I thought the 7/1 odds were too tempting

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 12 2017, 09:52 AM

I really think the app vote needs looking at. Not abolishing it completely, technology moves on and app voting is definitely the way forward. However it's clear that having 5 free app votes per song is a problem. These are the points difference between first and last place since the international jury voting was introduced in 2011.

2011: 96 points
2012: 136 points
2013: 91 points
2014: 108 points
2015: 162 points
2016: 40 points
2017: 27 points

The app was introduced in 2015 but of course there was no app voting in the final because it crashed. The sheer contrast of the past 2 years with the previous ones says it all really. Last night could've been a real nail biter, but with Robin having a 20 point lead in the jury vote, once the televote results were being announced as 30, 31, 32, etc. we knew it was all over. I'd be so interested to see the vote breakdown of phone/SMS votes against the app.

Of course it's all the more disappointing that had Loreen made it to the final, she probably would've walked the jury vote and be preparing for Kyiv now. sad.gif

Posted by: eurovision4ever Mar 12 2017, 10:24 AM

I agree with the app voting basically Nullifying the televote, it's all down to the juries. Needs looked at.

However I don't get the Loreen would have walked the jury vote. See no reason why this would be the case at all. Public didn't take to it, why would juries????

Posted by: Conderella Mar 12 2017, 10:25 AM

We need to be aware of double standards though. The app system is bad but as long as Loreen benefits from it, everything is fine.

Tbh the app system needs some work. We have never had a song which placed THIRD in the televoting win the entire thing! Only 2nd in cases of Las Vegas, Hero and You. A bit of a joke, although Robin is a good winner and I already played the song like 3 times this morning.

Posted by: gooddelta Mar 12 2017, 10:41 AM

Yeah Loreen would have probably come like 10th in the televote if she'd scraped to the final so if she had won thanks to the juries there would be huge uproar.

I hope the voting system will be altered slightly for next year, Wiktoria has finished 2nd on the televote twice in a row and finished 4th and 6th overall respectively, poor girl.

Posted by: ScottyEm Mar 12 2017, 11:39 AM

It was all a bit weird to see such a small gap between first and last place in the voting,so ultimately the juries had a lot more clout. I agree it would need reviewing. It surely must be gutting for Wiktoria, but a shrill song coupled with an unreliable vocalist, I was baffled it was a favourite in the first place. Robin is a far stronger package and I'm confident it's another solid top 5 finish in Kiev.

Posted by: danG Mar 12 2017, 11:45 AM

Song is quite decent at best but WOW at that staging!!! Admittedly haven't heard the other entries but that looks like another win for Sweden.

Posted by: David Mar 12 2017, 12:37 PM

It's a great spectacle, but I really don't think the song is up to much. Will obviously qualify, but won't be surprised if it's hovering between 11th and 15th at the end of the night on May 13th.

Posted by: AdamAloud Mar 12 2017, 12:49 PM

Yeah I know there's no definitive way of knowing if Loreen would've stormed the jury vote, but if the juries were after a strong song, performed superbly with stunning live vocals then I truly believe she'd have run away with it. Of course Rich is right in saying she'd have flopped on the public vote and they'd definitely be some AFTONBLADET headlines this morning had she won that way! I wasn't trying to turn my point into 'if only Loreen was in the final!!!1', Robin is a deserving winner and will surely be in the top 5 in Ukraine. Just a little bitter still over her not even making the final.

Posted by: Mateja Mar 12 2017, 01:13 PM

The winning song is okay, I guess. Probably the right choice based on what was on offer in the final. That said, I find the lyrics and the whole act a bit off putting.

No song or performance in the final came close to 'Statements'. I actually went and downloaded the song from iTunes.

The stats are out...

http://www.svt.se/melodifestivalen/se-alla-rostningssiffror-sa-tog-robin-bengtsson-over-i-melodifestivalen-2017-fore-loreen-wiktoria-nano-mariette-m-fl?cmpid=inl:fbpage:undefined:20170314:832215013:Stockholm%20ATV

Roger Pontare was little over 2,000 votes from making AC.

Robin won the 3rd Deltavling, but with the lowest number of votes for any heat winner.

Bella and Filippa were only 13,000 votes adrift of Anton Hagman for a place in AC. They also got by far the highest number of votes for a fifth placer, suggesting they would have eased through some of the other heats...

Nano got by more votes in his heat than any other song in any heat.

Wiktoria won the first round of her Deltavling comfortably but was only third in the second round of voting. Loreen WON the second round of voting (drama.gif) but not by enough to climb from third place overall to overtake Jon Henrik. However, Loreen's vote tally was not enough for a place in the final in any of the other heats.

Axel very narrowly beat Alice to AC - by 8,000 votes - after she was narrowly in front after the first round.

In AC, Lisa beat Axel to the final by 6,000 votes - 50.15% compared to 49.85% of the vote. Closest duel of all time in AC.

Anton beat Loreen by over 85,000 votes and with 52.3% of the votes in their heat compared to Loreen's 47.7%.

Sara Varga's entry got the least votes of all, across any of the rounds, while Krista was the last placer with the highest number of votes.

If the votes were reset at the second round of voting (rather than being carried over), as was the case until 2011, Boris René, FO&O and Loreen would have gone straight to the final at the expense of Ace Wilder, Robin Bengtsson and Wiktoria!

If Eurovision was based on app voting then Jamala would have never won.

App voting to song contests is like Spotify streaming to charts, it allows the safest and most generic or catchy/kid-friendly songs to prosper while anything daring or original loses out because it doesn't get that blanket support.

1 million people throwing a 'good' song 2 or 3 votes each is ultimately, and sadly, more effective than 200,000 ardent and hardcore supporters giving a really unique, but marmite song 5 votes each.

I just pray it never makes its way to Eurovision then - whether you like Jamala or not, one of the key factors of enjoyment in musical competitions is the unexpected and daring triumphing over the odds. I mean, Robin was fairly unexpected and I'll give him that as much as I dislike the song but that feels hollow because it was effectively a jury choice and the public had no final say in the matter.

How can two separate sections of musical competition get it so wrong in prioritising unoriginality? Clones of previously popular songs are supposed to be left in the dirt and people move onto the next thing, not rewarded for their ordinariness.

I'm at the point where I'm having to expect technically competent but dead-behind-the-eyes Swedish entries for the foreseeable future and that's really disheartening.

Posted by: Cameron Mar 17 2017, 10:53 AM

MF entries in the top 50 of the latest Swedish charts:

(3) 2. Wiktoria cheer.gif
(6) 3. Robin
(7) 4. Nano
(10) 7. FO&O
(11) 10. Benjamin
(23) 12. Jon Henrik
(17) 13. Anton
(26) 16. Mariette
(13) 20. Loreen
(36) 27. Lisa
(51) 30. Ace
(41) 31. Axel
(65) 42. Boris
(58) 49. Bella & Filippa

The best song staying out in front, well I never! Maybe a UK record label can pick this up and it can smash through the backdoor without even needing the Eurovision exposure *prays*

Shape Of You is #1, naturally.

I'm over ever praying one of these MF hits could crossover after I got vague hopes up for Busy Doin Nothin on about 3 seperate occasions.

Be afraid (unless you're a Nano fan smile.gif)

Hold On looks to be gearing up for an international push...a video produced by Michael Jackson's son Prince (!) has been made for the track, and an article has even featured on Billboard. Hopefully it doesn't escape into the charts here, I'm relatively confident it won't in this post-Sigma landscape that we live in, unless Radio 1 get hold of it, but they'll soon be scared off when a quick Google search reveals its Melodifestivalen roots.

Wow. Just when I thought the song couldn't get any worse.

Has that NANO track been slightly revamped? I only say this because it doesn't sound as "try hard" as it did when I last heard it in March, and the chorus isn't quite as poppy. Still, I did prefer it to that awful Bengtsson song that won Melodifestivalen...
