BuzzJack Music Forum _ Dance _ David Guetta singles survivor [ROUND 4]

Posted by: danG 12th November 2019, 10:46 PM

David Guetta is undeniably one of the biggest hitmakers of the decade and it's about time we gave him a singles survivor.

Because he has sooo many singles, only his UK top 40 hit singles where he is credited as an artist have been included... PLUS his unjust #41 smash 'Stay (Don't Go Away)' to take us to a round 40.

Simply vote for up to FOUR of your LEAST favourite singles and the FOUR with the most votes will be eliminated.

Now onto tonight's eliminations...

32. 2U [w/ Justin Bieber] [15 votes, 10.49%]

Leading the vote in the third round is "2U" which was to be the lead single from "7". Despite featuring Justin Bieber at the peak of his success it didn't turn out to be as massive hit for them as many expected, although it was still reasonably big having peaked at #5 and getting certified Platinum. It was also widely criticised on Buzzjack for being the first David Guetta track to feature a future bass drop and seeing him turn away from his old sound. It's definitely not a highlight of his discography and it really should have left already but I'll take it still being bottom ten.

31. Don't Leave Me Alone [w/ Anne-Marie] [14 votes, 9.79%]

"Don't Leave Me Alone" was the fourth single taken from the standard edition of "7" and was in collaboration with Anne-Marie which led to Buzzjack collectively groaning before the song was even released. Of course we were right to however as this is one of his absolute worst singles, for similar reasons to "2U" except this one is actively annoying rather than just meh. It peaked at #18 and is certified Silver. It also remains as his most recent top 20 hit.

30. Shot Me Down [w/ Skylar Grey] [13 votes, 9.09%]

"Shot Me Down" was the first single from the "Listen" era although it eventually only made the cut for the deluxe edition. Skylar Grey is featured to cover the Cher song 'Bang Bang' turning it into a big room track. Guetta however had much criticism for quickly jumping on the trend just months after Martin Garrix's "Animals" was a huge hit with some calling the drop a ripoff of the track. It also came just under a decade after Audio Bullys also had a hit with a dance reworking of the song. This version wasn't quite as big although still a reasonable hit. It peaked at #4 and is certified Silver. I liked it a lot at the time anyhow, good to see it just avoid the bottom ten.

29. Right Now [w/ Rihanna] [12 votes, 8.39%]

"Right Now" was a track David Guetta did for Rihanna's album "Unapologetic" to return the favour of Rihanna guesting on "Who's That Chick". It was produced alongside Nicky Romero and StarGate as well as his regular co-producer Giorgio Tuinfort. It entered and peaked at #36 following the album's release. It is not amongst either artist's finest moments though and you really would expect something better from these two coming together.

Also attracting votes this time were 'Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)', 'Night Of Your Life', 'Just One Last Time' and 'Like I Do'.

Results so far...

'Shot Me Down' might not be such an awful song to my ears if it weren't for the far better Audio Bullys version existing. Just why would you want Guetta's massively inferior one when the exact same concept was already done much better xx the other 3 dropping out here are not awful (even the Anne-Marie one) but they're certainly not essential either so no complaints.

'Commander', 'Turn Me On' and 'Like I Do' remain in my firing line and are now joined by 'What I Did For Love' (the first song I'm voting for that I don't think is awful, just the most painfully mediocre of the swathes of mediocrity left).

Pleasantly surprised 'Commander' is in the lead! (and it goes without saying that no one in their right mind should be even thinking of touching 'Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)' yet)

Really loved Shot Me Down at the time. Yes it ripped off Animals but it's not like there was a plethora of big room hit singles, I could literally count them all on 2 hands so who really cares? Compare it to tropical house or future bass which have extended their stays in relevance to multiple years.

Bad is also one of his best ever songs sleep.gif this is going to pot very quickly.

the worst thing about Shot me down was that Audiobullys had already covered it and done a much better job, so Guetta's version was useless

I should have voted for Commander. Poor Martin Garrix. sad.gif

Lol memories is one of his best

I didn't notice 'Memories' even being close to going out, that's the one song from that era that actually has held up well. How does that have 7 times the votes 'Sexy Bitch' has xx
