28 years ago ‘Shocked’ was released (Always good to see Kylie celebrate these ‘events’ on her social media).
It charted at #6 and gave Kylie her 13th consecutive Top 10 in the UK (Although that came to an end with the follow up ‘Word Is Out’). It’s highest chart placing was in Ireland where is peaked at #2.
Thoughts on this song? It doesn’t seem to be one that Kylie revisits very often.
Shocked is a good song and made a wonderful 4th single and once again was a different sound for Kylie.
That said, the other 3 singles are in a much higher league than Shocked.
Always Find The Time and Things Can Only Get Better are 2 further songs from this time i prefer to Shocked.
A true early 90s classic!
Always liked shocked but never loved it.
'Shocked' would be last place out of my ranking of the Rhythm of Love singles but it's still a really fun track, both in its house influenced DNA mix and the rocky guitar album version. I love hearing Kylie perform the rap, particularly when she did the medley on Christmas 2004 TOTP and it lead into 'Better the Devil You Know'!
I've been listening through all Kylie's albums one by one and, upon revisiting Rhythm of Love, I really think 'Things Can Only Get Better' would have made a great single. I guess the record company were thinking about chart positions but I think this could have potentially become a tour favourite. The optimistic, empowering nature of it kinda reminds me of Madonna's songs where she sings of finding escapism in music. Kylie has a few songs like that ('Enjoy Yourself' and 'Time Will Pass You' come to mind) and it would have been nice if one of those could have made it.
While i also prefer Things Can Only Get Better to Shocked i believe the record company may have seen it as a step backwards.
Things Can Only Get Better was more pop than the singles selected so i think this may have been taken into consideration.
Had it been selected as the 4th singles i do believe it would have at the least matched the success of Shocked.
Fair point and didnt think of it that way before but I'd still have picked it as 4th single ahead of shocked. As a huge what do I have to do fan I was prob always not going to be a huge fan of its follow up as that song just hits the spot perfectly for me.
The rap was very catchy.
