In celebration of 35 years since Madonna's music career officially began, we're going through her discography to share our 'holy trinity' from each album.
We begin with her debut. Simply vote for your three favourite songs from the album and share your thoughts below!
Holiday, Lucky Star and Borderline for me but I'm not really keen on this album. It's decent pop music but a bit nondescript and unexciting compared to what was to come. I would say Borderline is the only track I really listen to regularly from the entire album...
1. Borderline
2. Holiday
3. Burning Up
Love every song on this incredible debut.
Borderline is by far the best thing here, then probably Burning Up and Everybody - the latter of which I have done a complete u-turn on after the other thread and finding the synth line particularly draws me in.
Holiday
Borderline
Burning up
Lucky Star, Holiday and Borerline!
My top 3 from this album are:
01) Burning Up
02) Borderline
03) Holiday
The first three for me:
Lucky Star
Borderline
Burning Up
I jumped the gun a TAD and voted for I Know It, Lucky Star and Borderline. Burning Up would probably just edge Borderline in reality. Though most of my love for Lucky Star is the for the insanely good CT mix.
Not an album I return to much in its entirety, but there are some rly nice moments. Borderline ranks very high in my ALL-TIME Madonna singles rank, and then i've gone for Holiday and Lucky Star....
1. Holiday
2. Lucky Star
3. Burning Up
1 Borderline
2 Holiday
3 Everybody
Good to see Borderline leading, and getting 12/15 votes so far! It's really the shining gem in this album and a true beauty
'Lucky Star', 'Borderline' and 'Everybody' for me, although the latter is the only one I really return to and love. The other two are great but I know a lot of people love them dearly and would rank them among Madonna's best singles, whereas I don't rate them quite as high as that.
The three most remembered singles are slaying !!
With Lucky Star, I'm sure I never really gave it the time of day until I experienced the Lucky Star/Hung Up mash-up at the Confessions tour as John said. Also it's sampled (very briefly) in a song by Travis Scott on his last album so it's slowly risen in my affections over the past few years
Yeah, the Confessions remix definitely elevates the song.
Also, speaking of samples, the intro to 'Cut to the Feeling' is clearly influenced by that of 'Lucky Star'.
'Physical Attraction' is amazing and deserves more attention.
I was thinking when deciding on my votes how good 'Physical Attraction' is, actually. The production really works on you and all 6 minutes feels totally justified.
Lucky Star, Borderline, Burning Up + I Know It
Borderline
Lucky Star
Everybody
