Good to see Pale Waves being A-listed after 'Change' stalled in the B-list

Jake Bugg being playlisted FOUR months after release is just totally bizarre! It's the longest gap I can remember between release and playlisting (not counting post-album singles of course).

Are they *really* not going to playlist Clean Bandit?

Why snub CB? They never snubbed their other songs. Hope R1 aren’t done with them. They could easily remove Laroi and putt CB in place

That's a bit of a premature statement, there's still plenty of time for them to add him. For example the JC Stewart song added today was released 6 weeks ago, Ben Howard's only been out 3 weeks...

I'd be surprised if they don't playlist Ben Howard, he was Greg's Tune of the Week this week. I also don't think they're done with Clean Bandit and I'd be surprised not to see them next week.

Anyway, not a particularly interesting week for adds this week. The Welshy - Haiti tune is quite nice now I've listened to it and I quite enjoy JC Stewart's too. Nice to see Pale Waves and Tiesto up to the A List and Tom Grennan, Dua Lipa and Rag'N'Bone Man up to B.

Surprised that Wellerman has completely stalled on the C List. It's been a much bigger success than I ever imagined it to be so I' not sure why it didn't get to the B List at least.

Finally, I wonder if they'll support Rita Ora? They've normally been massive supporters almost immediately but they've not played Big or Bang Bang at all since they've been released, not even on the new music playlist last Friday

I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to distance themselves from her after all the recent controversy. It's a shame though as 'Bang Bang' has the potential to blow up (no pun intended ) I just hope she hasn't completely derailed her career.

oh I thought Ben Howard's album was out in 2 weeks, thats why I thought it was strange they were skipping him
but the album is actually out on March 26, so there is still some time...

Pretty amazing how long the song has been top 40 on iTunes, been there since December like shows it’s a song people like even without much airplay!

Like the new entries for FKA Twigs and loving the new Ghetts track. Like all the additions to the A List some of them shoulda been there earlier.

‘Without You’ is one of the biggest hits of the year so far, they deserve a bit longer than a month A List?!

If anything they could get rid of Regardless and add CB. Not fussed about them not playlisting Higher anyway - it's not anything special although it does sound radio friendly.

Great to see Pale Waves and Royal Blood added to the A list and Dua added to the B list. Really happy for SG Lewis to get another track playlisted - his album (out today) is excellent. Very happy to see Ed removed, and it was time for Taylor and Pa Salieu to go too. Hoping Justin and Foo Fighters follow suite next week.

Arlo has done very well critically and in the albums chart though. Also hope the Foo Fighters get at least another few weeks - their album was the fastest seller of the year so far and it’s not like they get blanket airplay on the likes of Capital.

Some very niche choices this week. All seem like they’d be much more suited to the evening shows (other than Scott’s choice.)

In good news though, Jessie Ware’s new single has had quite a few spot plays over the last few days so fingers crossed that gets a playlist add soon!

Sadly not. She hasn't been playlisted since 'Thinking About You' in 2018 I'd love them to do an about turn on her but I just can't see it.

Haha yeah I know! I really meant the type of songs they are, Scott’s tune sounds a typical commercial dance songs whilst the others are more songs I would usually associate with R1 evenings! 😂

Was good to hear Remember Where You Are on Annie Mac last night. Still think sending Jessie Ware to Radio 2 only was really premature. And she seems bigger than ever now too! Would be great to see this playlisted even though I can't see it happening. Would be kind of ironic as it's the most seventies-sounding/R2-friendly of all her recent singles. It's ridiculous that things like Save A Kiss didn't get on, although that also got spot plays.

I feel like we all really need to work together in tweeting Radio 1 asking what their fascination is with sending female artists to Radio 2 much quicker than male, or just not playlisting really any over the age of 30.

They've played the Georgia remix of What's Your Pleasure? a few times on Annie's show (I specifically remember them playing it on their Christmas party show) but I agree she should have been properly playlisted. This is Radio 1 though - anything could happen

As far as I'm aware, the evening DJs are very much *in control* of what they play during those 2 hours so you're more likely to hear stuff they enjoy rather than what the producer wants you to hear. I still think they're perhaps not quite done with Jessie and they'll playlist her

I really like Bang Bang because its a great tune but would prefer them not to playlist it because of the Rita controversy at this time when we are still in lockdown.

I think they are unlikely to playlist it anyway as on top of the Rita controversy I noticed something else with radio 1 playlisting dance music. They only tend to playlist a lot of the more big name or commercial dance tunes once they make the UK top 40 chart these days, and instead playlist a few more obscure dance and less commercial tunes. OK I know Nile Rodgers is a big name but that SG Lewis song he is on is not one of the more commercial sounding dance tunes imo.

It's also worth checking out the Radio 1 Dance shows (the 4am ones), they give an indication of something they're going to playlist too tbh

If Jessie Ware is still regarded as cool and credible enough for nighttime play and her music is suitable for mainstream daytime radio, she should still have proper R1 support. Can't think of many other R2-only acts that still get on specialist shows. They should admit they've made a huge mistake and put her recent singles into recurrents for the next five years.
