WILL YOUNG NEW ALBUM 85% PROOF FEATURES R&B, SEVENTIES PASTORAL FOLK, COUNTRY MUSIC, DISCO AND A PIANO BALLAD: THE RESULT OF CAREFREE EXPERIMENTATION AND A NEW APPROACH TO SONGWRITING. THE BRITISH SINGER HAS ANNOUNCED FEW WEEKS AGO THE RELEASE OF HIS FINAL SINGLE, A STUNNINGLY HEARTFELT RENDITION OF 'WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE', THAT HAS BEEN USED TO SOUNDTRACK THE OFFICIAL WWF#WORLDNEEDSLOVE CAMPAIGN TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR DECLINING WILDLIFE POPULATIONS ACROSS THE GLOBE

FORMER POP IDOL WINNER HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING TALENT-SHOW GRADUATES, HERE’S OUR CHAT WITH HIM LAST WEEK:

Hello Will, thank you for taking the time to answer to our questions.
I would like to start with the title of this song “What the world needs now is you”.
Never before has there been such a need to stand up and take notice, you said. Do you think that the world has become pretty cruel nowadays?

I think the world hasn’t become so cruel as more selfish and attune with capitalism. Establishments are not keen to stand up for anything that doesn’t lead to immediate gain. the problem with immediate gain is eventual loss. There is no other way round it.

Can you tell us more about your cooperation with WWF and the project?

It is a burgeoning relationship, not one that I expected and one I am excited about developing in the future. I am so proud of the song and their campaign, and really pleased I was able to give my time to it.

You said 85% Proof, “is more outward looking than ever before.” Why?

I have reached a place as an adult where I can look out at the work and see what difference and change I can bring to it, whether political campaigning or simply looking at how I can aid people in day to day life, and the lyrics really reflect that. Hope i did answer your question.

Yes, you did! Listen, when is your Love Revolution Tour coming to Italy?

Well wouldn’t it be wonderful to do it next year. I think it would be so much fun!

Will, how much did the music industry changed since you started?

So much. The onset of digital streaming now in particular has completely changed the landscape and we are all still working out how to make it work for all. The fantastic thing is people get to hear more music, more than ever before.

Last but not least: what’s your relationship with selfies and social media in general?

I hate it. I understand its significance in today’s digital world and accept that it is part of my job specifically these days… but really I hate it.

I wonder why he's still doing overseas interviews. unsure.gif Some interesting snippets. I always thought he viewed social media as a necessary evil. It just doesn't seem him at all.

He's never really been into technology has he Gill. I recall him saying that it took ages for his friends to finally convince him to give us his 'ordinary' moby. I think he just finds it all so intrusive. I dare say he doesn't want to appear grumpy so goes along with it. I have noticed though that sometimes his 'smile' is a wee bit false. People asking for the odd photo was probably ok but everyone seems to be doing 'selfies' for practically everything these days. The price of fame unfortunately.

I've noticed the false smiles too. The way he sets his mouth is a giveaway. I guess he grabs phones for selfies to get it over quickly. laugh.gif
