The whole top 9 being over £1m! Crazy good numbers. SO happy for Jojo Rabbit's numbers. It's unlucky that it had so much competition with those numbers. I think it'll have a strong hold too wub.gif

Great figures there. May drop a bit now the kids are back at school.

Posted by: Jonjo 10th January 2020, 05:51 PM

I'm gonna say 1917 will debut with £3m at #1 and Star Wars will drop to 2 with £2.8/9m, this weekend.

Basically gonna predict this:

01. 1917 [£3.1m]
02. Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker [£2.9m]
03. Little Women [£2.1m]
04. Jumanji [£1.8m]
05. Gentlemen [£1.7m]
06. Jojo Rabbit [£1.3m]

*everything else under £1m* (except maybe Frozen 2, which may JUST grab 1m)

Ofc I'm probs way off. laugh.gif

Might be an idea for a game we could start in this forum - every week we pick 3 films that are out that week (two big films & a smaller film), and try to predict what position it will reach in the Box Office Chart the next week. In addition, there could be an additional element where we try to guess how much money the #1 film makes to the nearest £100k.

Posted by: Jonjo 10th January 2020, 06:58 PM

I've always wanted to do something like this, but it never lasts/I usually forget to do it half the time laugh.gif

If someone reading this wants to start it, feel free biggrin.gif (I can pin the threads etc..)

Weathering With You had such a strong opening weekend for an anime film (it only played on 57 screens and gained a screen average better than every film bar the top 2 in the top 15) that it is expanding to 250 screens by the end of the month. Would love it to become an unexpected slow-burning hit, although I have a feeling that most of the people who would go to see it have now seen it. Great stuff though.

That's a really low drop off rate for 1917! ohmy.gif

Must admit I thought Bad Boys For Life would be No.1 this week.

Posted by: Jonjo 24th January 2020, 10:33 PM

I thought it'd be close and that 1917 would drop to around £3.5m-£4m. I wasn't expecting it to only drop £1m from last weeks numbers!

Indeed, it opened at #18 with £171,837.

Remarkably, Oscar-nominated Richard Jewell opened even worse at #19 with £158,868.

And the long-awaited "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" opened even, even worse at #23 with £67,355.

Dolittle deserved much worse, God awful film!

Did Underwater not even get Top 15?! Yikes!! It was a really good film too.

Really impressed with how Parasite did, whilst showing in less than 150 cinemas!

Posted by: Jonjo 12th February 2020, 08:00 PM

Amazing for Parasite! It's getting a much wider release too this week after it's Oscar win.

Dolittle demolishing Birds Of Prey, even with previews not added, I assume it would have been an easy victory. 'Underwater' not going top 15 even is pretty embarassing!

Underwater opened at #17 with £191, 869.

The Rhythm Section dropped from #18 to #33 in it's second week with £11,984, only 5 places above Cats.

Posted by: Brett-Butler 12th February 2020, 10:02 PM

Absolutely shocked that Dolittle so convincingly got the #1 slot this week; it's heavily underperformed in the US (will probably lose over $100 million), it's reviews have been universally terrible, and its a franchise that doesn't seem to have much of a following (even the Eddie Murphy remake is largely forgotten). It has been advertised on all the buses here, which might have helped.

Posted by: Jonjo 12th February 2020, 10:49 PM

The advertisement and promotion for Dolittle is what has saved it. As well as the fact that there's no competition (until this week) from other kids/family movies. I imagine it'll fall to number 2 with about £3m-£3.5m next week, with Sonic debuting at #1 with a similar number to what Dolittle did this week (anywhere from £4m - £5m), considering it's the first weekend of half term this weekend.

Posted by: Jonjo 16th February 2020, 12:58 AM

In the US Sonic is heading for a $60m+ opening (4 day) weekend!

They listened to the fans and it's paid off BIG TIME for them. I'm shook.

Wow that's really impressive for Tenet! Wasn't massive on the film but I'm hopeful this will mean we will get more major releases soon.

Posted by: Chemistry 1st September 2020, 05:08 PM

I'm very hapy with the results of Tenet, not just because of the movie itself but mostly to see people still want to go to the cinemas. This is really what we needed at the moment.
Shame The Hope Gap only made it to #7, such a good movie, but I imagine it's not playing in a lot of cinemas and I think most of the general demographic for a movie like that are maybe more afraid to go out now.

Posted by: UltraFolklore 1st September 2020, 05:11 PM

that number for Tenet is a blessing. Unhinged is also doing really well, that's def gonna end up with a good total by the end of its run considering its already over +£600k! Def encouraging signs for cinema

and yassss at TGS and Sonic continued slayage *.*

Posted by: Jonjoliday 1st September 2020, 07:09 PM

Excellent news! I am hoping The New Mutants can do 1m at least, but I'm not sure.

Exciting times to be following actual cinema releases again though cheeseblock.png

Hopefully we will continue to see actual cinema releases, I hope.

Was hoping Saint Maud could take over Tenet and have bigger numbers tbh sad.gif Maybe it will do as we go into Halloween

Really interested to see how The Craft and The Witches do at the end of the month.

Posted by: Brett-Butler 13th October 2020, 08:29 PM

Those numbers have plummeted from prior weeks, it looks like the Cineworld closures have started to have an effect on the box office. Delighted to see the Akira re-release at #3, although in a normal week it wouldn't even be top 10 with those numbers.
