BuzzJack Music Forum _ P!nk _ Thoughts on Get This Party Started 15 years on?

Posted by: Scene 13th August 2016, 07:57 PM

It just came up on my Spotify playlist and I was thinking of skipping but decided not to... OMG. The instrumental in it doesn't seem dated at all (which seems weird for a song from 2001 laugh.gif). Pink's vocal in it is amazing too. No wonder it was the single that properly made her breakthrough.

What are your thoughts on it - is it among her best?

It's not her best but I still love it. The video is pretty dated now which I never thought would happen.

Yeah I agree - I went off it quite quickly when it was released but then again I was 8. I just thought before I posted this thread that the instrumental struck me as quite "experimental" for a pop song from that time - in a good way. I think it gets lost in her discography these days but now I see the reasons why it made Pink breakthrough.

It's a nice fun jam and I do enjoy it if it comes on a playlist or at a party, but I think the fact she's eclipsed it so many times since and it lacks substance. It's a nice transitional stepping stone between that first album and what she went on to become.

Still love it and this was where her career really began, after first hearing this I instantly loved it and knew it would be huge, and loved the song so much that I bought her 2nd album on import and thought that it was fantastic, and still ranks as one of her best.

I would still rank this song in my personal top 10 fave Pink singles, and so glad she just got better and better throughout the years and that this wasn't a fluke, which it could have been. Even though I wasn't really a fan of her R&B days with 'There You Go' & 'Most Girls' although they were both very decent, I always knew that Pink had potential and changing her sound was a definite smart move career-wise, because who knew where she would be now if she stuck with that sound, which now sounds really dated, I predict that she would have probably faded with her 2nd or 3rd album and still be C-List, if she'd stuck with the R&B sound, because the 'LM' feature did boost her status, so who knows.

But 'Get The Party Started' is still a fantastic song, and yes the overplay pretty much killed it, but it will always be a very important stepping stone in her career, because if it wasn't for that success then we wouldn't have had greatness such as any of the follow up singles from the album or 'Who Knew', 'Trouble', 'So What', 'Raise Your Glass', 'U + Ur Hand', 'Please Don't Leave Me', 'Just Give Me A Reason' or even the wonderful 'Try'.

One of my least favourite Pink songs! I thought it was alright when it was released but much preferred the rest of the Missundaztood album. I quite liked the music video at the time though.

I hated it live too so I was glad to see it dropped from the set list on ttal tour

Nice fun song. Personally I prefer the Shirley Bassey/Rhydian version though

I have grown to really dislike this. It doesn't really fit on Missundaztood either.

It grew on me again this last year after I dismissed it for a long time as inferior to Just Like a Pill and Don't Let Me Get Me. You're right, Pink does have a great vocal on it. It sounds fun, probably a bit of its time compared to some of her other more acoustic stuff, but that's fine by me, I like 90s/early 00s nostalgia biggrin.gif

A 'dreadful' remix of "Get The Party Started" just popped up on my TikTok radar and it has been used >600k times. Nonetheless, good to see this song blowing up in my country for whatever reason. laugh.gif

Love this song brings back so many memories!

Oh I really like it, at the time it was huge and the first proper introduction to pink after her debut which was very rob and very un-pink-esque
the best song out of the early singles together with Just like a Pill

It's a fun bop but she has plenty superior ones to this I'd agree.
Embarrassing that I presumed it was an original song at the time tearsmile.gif

Unless there’s something I don’t know, I’m pretty sure it was an original song.

I've just looked it up and you're right it was laugh.gif when I saw Shirley Bassey did the song I presumed she must have released it originally in that case. Turns out it was she that covered it instead 5 years later!!

I do like get this party started, it was actually the song that made me take notice of Pink as the singles from her debut didnt really attract my attention at the time, i dont the enjoy the song now as much as i used to but still like it, it was the song that really changed her career though i think.

I love what it did for her career and we wouldn’t have had soooo many great songs and without it

That being said, it’s definitely a throwaway song of here for me now
