So I was looking for info on Gwen's new album and stumbled on the registration page for "Just Love Me", or as its officially registered, "Just Luv Me". The track was produced by Cashmere Cat.

Correction: produced by RoboPop and Cashmere Cat. Written by Julia Michaels.
QUOTE
There is a rumour floating around that she will release the song tomorrow at midnight.
Also someone posted some lyrics on Twitter.
People are saying that he posted lyrics of pretty Girls before it came out as well.
We'll just have to wait and see, ha.
Everytime a release is near we get these rumours so this is exciting!
Edit: Apparently it's sound is similar to 'Hands to myself '.

I have no clue. She did work with Cashmere Cat and with Julia Michaels, so this seems to be too much of a coincidence for it to not be the Britney song. But I don't know anything about a surprise release... A new single was scheduled for February a while ago and I guess it makes sense to drop it before the revamped show.

No, the iTunes banner was fake. The song is still real.

Posted by: Liаm 11th February 2016, 07:34 PM

Something like Hands To Myself is perfect for Britney. Like Selena she that playfully coy and sexy vibe to her voice. It's not the most powerful but she knows what to do with it, and it'd really suit a song like that.

I didn't think it'd come at such short notice but nonetheless I am READY for new Britney, especially if it's Hands To Myself-esque ohmy.gif

Don't post shit like this. I won't allow trolling in this forum and all you are doing is looking for a reaction.

I'm really not in the mood to tolerate it. And if you continue the issue I will make your posts invisible, 95% of your posts in here are negative and it's just old. We get it, you liked one album from her and you detest Blackout, Circus, Femme Fatale and Britney Jean. We haven't even gotten an official title and you are already just spewing out the pessimism.

End of discussion. Drop it or I'll drop it for you.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 11th April 2016, 09:07 AM

I actually could see this. G-Eazy is a clean rapper that doesn't appear affiliated with any drugs (which judging by Iggy's "they raided my house" piece is a big deal).

Posted by: Rob Spears 11th April 2016, 06:14 PM

Called 'Make Me (Ooh)'. Video being filmed Monday 18th April. Single and video released 13th May, album follows 10th June.

FROM POPJUSTICE FORUM:

You guys - the "insider" information I just heard makes me believe. It's what we want. I can't wait. (Basically a bff met and chatted with the editor in cheif of Fuse at some bar in NYC last night, the single is called Make Me, it's a mid tempo and is in the vein of Breathe on Me. "Vibey" but instantly catchy and unequivocally Brit).

WE DESERVE THIS.

And, no--I'm not trolling.

What a waste opportunity to promote new single, even though I don't think she will ever set charts on fire anymore. She became like Madonna in terms of singles but with half successful career.

I don't think that's the case at all. Britney and Justin are on the same label and they are their two biggest money makers. I think it's more about them spacing out the launches of their new projects. It's just another month (two at the most), it's really not that big of a deal.

And let's not act like Britney has released a string of flops. 'Britney Jean' is her only flop in the USA. She is not even close to being written off here as much as she is in the UK.

She is about to perform a medley at the BMA's along with the launch of her new mobile game (which is already doing extremely well). I believe this is all a PR move to draw in new and older fans before the launch of her new single. Remember when she performed with Madonna and Christina a month before "Me Against The Music"? It's all being done for a reason. I really feel like 'Britney Jean' and 'Pretty Girls' was a wake up call for them. I think we will see more promotion for this upcoming album since 'In The Zone'.

And to the Madonna comment, Britney has been promoting and performing to half her ability until the last couple of months. When she releases an album, kicks off the Super Bowl half time show and releases a lead single with two prominent artists on it... And STILL flops, then we can start putting her in the Madonna category.

No offense to Madonna, she's the queen. And it's already telling enough of Britney's status that she will be placed into that category once she loses the majority of her commercial appeal.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 21st May 2016, 05:47 PM

I mean Tyler's right. Britney & her team have been half-arsing promotion since 'Womanizer' and they probaby realise they need to step it up.

SOME DETAILS FROM A TRUSTED MEMBER ON EXHALE;

QUOTE
I'm not even lying about this, y'all know I would never lie to you. Please bookmark this so we can come back to it when the album is out!

I have a friend who is good friends with a recording artist under RCA. Apparently the artist got played 3 songs off of B9 and I'm just going to word for word share with you what they said.

FIRST! LYRICS. Freaking out.

"Baby it's ok, don't worry about a thing. Cause when this song comes to an end, I'll still be here."

He said the beat had synth and a light tropical beat, her vocals sound perfect over them.

He said this isn't from the lead single, but from another track he was played!!! He also said he heard the LEAD SINGLE.

"It had a crazy beat that's a mix between urban hip hop and Calvin Harris – so I guess like urban dance?" He also said "It's the most insane thing I've ever heard from Brit."

He said he really hopes it sticks as the first single because he could see the clubs in NY going crazy over the song.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST. He said Album comes out mid-Summer.

Not kidding this person would never lie to me, so I swear to you I can only believe it to be true. Don't forget I also leaked you guys the first clip of PG from the music video shoot in LA and have been to opening night of all her tours and given you all the vids.

I trust this guy, and I'm super stoked about those details!

if it's like BOM, then I'll be definitely on board with it.

It's funny how BOM was recorded in 2003 and 13 years later still sounds up to date. She does have a lot of songs that were such ahead of their time!

Posted by: Tyler 6th June 2016, 01:07 AM

'In The Zone' and 'Blackout' could be released today and would still be ahead of the game.

Is it listed as 'Make Me' or 'Make Me (Ooh)'?

Posted by: Jonjo 20th June 2016, 09:39 PM

It's listed as 'Make Me Oooh' but no G-Eazy feature. However, I think this radio station could be similar to one of the more commercial stations like heart FM over here and might only playlist the non-rap version or something? They seem to be catered toward a more AC audience.

A Friday release would be perfect, I'm in need of some new Britney right now tbh

Posted by: ḇlackout 4th July 2016, 07:29 PM

I'm at that point where I've accepted that new music is coming "soon", whether that be tomorrow or in a few months. I feel strange.

I can't wait for the video though; the teasing was the right amount (that we've been accustomed to).

I also can't wait for the honeymoon period where details such as artwork and a track-listing begin to pour in. It's been far too long.

I do to! But, I commend Team Britney for being able to keep 2 songs underwraps. It seems they have finally grasped the concept of creating hype. The leak was totally planned, IMO!

This album really is shaping up to be her next 'In The Zone'. Reminds me of when I first heard snippets of 'Showdown' and 'Breathe On Me'. Am I dreaming right now? 😍

Posted by: Tyler 13th July 2016, 07:31 AM

I think she has more chance to do so - pretty sure Capital for instance have hyped up her comeback on social media and they, at least on TV, supported 'Pretty Girls'. I can definitely see them adding her to their playlist, although whether they actually play it or decide to drop it if it doesn't hold up initially on iTunes as well as they want it to, despite the nature of OA/OS releases, is another matter.

I really care about it doing well too. Britney is probably the most iconic female artist of the past 20 years and I just think it's a major shame when radios etc no longer support huge names' longevity as a star and Pigeon-hole them as nostalgia acts.

First review is in from popcrush;

If Britney Spears starts off slow, can she still make us oooh?

She’s a massively successful Las Vegas entertainer, a prolific perfumer, an iconic Instagrammer and an exceptional earner with two kids on her arm, but her presence on radio hasn’t been felt — barring a brief Britishney assist three years ago on will.i.am‘s “Scream & Shout” — since 2011’s Femme Fatale.

In spite of scores of smashes and a reputation as a Living Legend™, the idea of reinvigorating the Britney Brand this year, a brand that is otherwise focused exclusively on filling seats at a greatest hits residency, feels like more of a challenge now than ever.

There was a more obvious, tried-and-true approach to opt for with this upcoming album, as she’s done for the past few cycles now: a hard-edged, thunderous dance-pop record that kicks down the doors and says to the world, effectively, “It’s Britney, bitch.”

“Work Bitch.” “Hold It Against Me.” “Womanizer.” “Gimme More.” All killer. All club bangers. All fire. But this time, it’s different.

Three years of fine-tuning her sound after the release of her Most Personal To Date-but-not so critically acclaimed Britney Jean, the kick-off for Album Nine is…well, a chill one.

Welcome to the “artsy-fartsy,” “not so poppy” side of Britney Spears, a pop star born anew.

Friday, I’m dreaming a mile a minute about somebody…

“Make Me,” the Burns-produced, Joe Janiak co-penned lead single from Britney’s ninth studio album, out today (July 15) after months of delays and a whole lot of leaking, aligns perfectly with the sound du jour: “moody R&B,” to describe it loosely, a vibe that caught on following a wave of acts like The Weeknd, Tinashe, BANKS and FKA twigs.

That shadowy sound now colors most of the defining pop records of late, from Selena Gomez‘s Revival to Zayn‘s Mind of Mine to Rihanna‘s ANTI. With this song (and the unexpected throwback soul of “Private Show”), Britney’s swerved into the oft-promised “left-lane” pop territory she’s hinted at for years — but like, actually.

No shame in the game / Just cut the s–t, be honest…

That’s not to say Britney hasn’t dipped into more sensual, R&B-infused sound throughout her career. She’s always dabbled, from Oops!…I Did It Again‘s “When Your Eyes Say It” to In The Zone‘s “Touch Of My Hand” and “Early Mornin'” to Femme Fatale‘s “Inside Out.” (And let us not forget the many experimental unreleased cuts, like “Welcome To Me.”)

But the production on a lead Britney Spears single has never felt quite so lush and slow-burning as it does on “Make Me,” allowing her voice to take center stage in this particular Private Show™.

You know what you gotta do tonight…

“Pretty Girls” only beamed down to Earth a little over a year ago, but “Make Me” makes last year’s Iggy Azalea-assisted summer jam feel like a childish dare between two friends after one too many caesar salad dinners in comparison.

Gone are the silly British voices, Smurfs 2 sing-along songs and bees to the hon-ay — “Make Me” is the product of a sexy, single grown-up woman in lust.

You’re the spark that won’t go out…

Plenty of Britney’s best work, like “Breathe On Me” and “And Then We Kiss,” is brewed up with the bedroom in mind. “Make Me” follows suit — it’s unsubtly about sex, in fact.

Slaps of bass, sexy whines and guitar and Major Lazer-like squawks fill the airy spaces between Brit’s melodically purred come-ons (that heaven-sent falsetto moment in the second verse!), leading up to a clap-happy pre-chorus. But the true beauty of “Make Me” lies in its climax of a chorus, as she erupts into coos of euphoria. “OOO-ooo-OOO-ooo-OOO!” Waves of pleasure. Waves!

My heart’s on fire when you’re around…

As opposed to much of Britney Jean, a pick-and-mix of robotic dance-pop and contemporary Christian hymns of questionable vocal integrity, and even her Giorgio Moroder collabo “Tom’s Diner,” which was weighed down by needless vocoder effects, “Make Me” sees the glorious return of Vocalney. (Hell, this one’s nearly an a cappella in comparison to her last few singles.)

There’s a warmth in her voice: compare it to the speak-sung “Work Bitch” commands (“go call the gov-ah-nuh!“) or the chilly delivery on her electro-pop opus, Blackout. That album is a masterpiece in its own right, but this is an artist who actually sounds present in her work again.

And for all the panic that ensued among fans upon learning a rapper would be appearing on the track, G-Eazy‘s presence is as inoffensive as Drake‘s contribution to Rihanna’s smash, “Work.” She does often crave something more urban. (With any luck, Eazy will bring along a few more ears from his own world who might not have immediately opted to listen to a Britney Spears song.)

No rules / From the bar to the car, let’s take it back to my room / Ignite in the heat of the moment…

One of the hurdles that some fans bizarrely refuse to get over is that Britney is not the same Britney of 1999, 2001 or 2003 — and that’s fine. No pop star (or human) should be doing what they did over a decade ago. (It is true, though, that she’s looking and dancing better than she has in years.) She’s the undisputed Princess of Pop — of course! — but the constant nostalgia pieces about her decade-old awards show performances and side-by-side comparisons to her early dance routines grow occasionally tiresome.

There’s no need to constantly invoke the past: she’s thriving again — right now. In the present. And at last, we have music that reflects the pop superstar’s visibly renewed spirit (Spearit) that we’ve witnessed in her triumphant 2016 Billboard Music Awards performance and newly re-imagined Piece of Me show.

Just want you to raise my roof / Something sensational…

While today’s radio darlings like Meghan Trainor and Tumblr teen heartthrobs like Charli XCX play dress-up with the sound and style of the late ’90s and early ’00s, the very not-a-girl-now-very-much-a-woman herself who personified that bubblegum pop era is now shifting in a new direction.

With “Make Me,” Britney effectively breaks her “banger” formula with this new era (she does love herself some formulas, just ask Albert Einstein) in what is her most fresh, convincing bid for renewed interest at radio since 2011, and her most ambitious sonic switch-up since 2003’s In The Zone.

It’s both unexpected and instantly recognizable as the stuff of Britney, as much as the potpourri of religious memes, Google Image searches for cheesy corn and #SexySunday selfies that fill her very active Instagram feed.

And coming from an artist nearly twenty years deep into her recording career, the change of pace feels especially go-ooo-OOO-ooo-d.

Sonically, this is exactly what Britney needed. Pretty Girls didn't fit in when it was released as it felt too childish and Work Bitch came at a time where dance-heavy pop was a bit done. But this has come right on time.

I think it's a fantastic song, it's still sinking in, but I can see it fitting in among her best lead singles for sure.

Now to the negatives. The fact it's not on Spotify and isn't even slightly advertised on iTunes is going to have a big effect this week unfortunately.

Posted by: Joe. 15th July 2016, 07:57 AM

Radio 1 just confirmed they're going to play new Britney before 9:30 (even though they said they had not planned to). Very interesting. I wonder if they like the sound and are going to support.

Posted by: Oliver 15th July 2016, 08:02 AM

This is so good! Loving the vocals and I agree with others that the rap actually works, rather than detracts from the song. heart.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 15th July 2016, 08:08 AM

Outstanding. Absolutely incredible and like others have said, it was exactly what she needed! Would love for this to be another huge era for her. You know, similarly to how 'Confessions...' was another huge era for Madonna. She's still got it in her to be able to do that I believe. (although not being on Spotify doesn't help pirate.gif like Little Mix, there seems to be SOMETHING not right lmao)

SHE'S WELL AND TRULY BACK. She's reinvented herself again and it's FLAW. LESS.

First time hearing the chorus I definitely felt underwhelmed but you get used to it, it grows. I appreciate that she's gone for something different and the rap really helps to elevate it.

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th July 2016, 09:21 AM

I LOVE IT. So different for her but this is a welcome change and will hopefully get the attention of radios here in the UK sad.gif G-Eazy really elevates it too I think.

I love how you can tell it's the same producer as Justin/Selena, but it doesn't sound like a rehash of their songs! Very talented producer.

I just can't get over this! sob.gif sob.gif

<3

And I LOVE that it's already top 10 in the UK. Sales are low, but there's still demand for her, here. We just need proper radio support and maybe a promotion slot or two, but that doesn't matter so much if she has radio on her side. Also, GET THIS ON SPOTIFY. GOODNESS ME </3

I wasn't sure up until G-Easy's part and then I started liking it.

I like the overall vibe and the production is excellent. Her vocals are weak as f*** though and I don't think the verses are up to much.

If it wasn't for the production, this really wouldn't be much at all but as we stand it's her best single in a long time.

Absolutely this, it gets better and better as the song goes on and you know what to expect.

I'm impressed, sounds like it stands a really good chance at commercial success which her last few leads have left you questioning! Fingers crossed for her.

Posted by: Addy K!ng 15th July 2016, 11:53 AM

I did not have expectations this to hit #1 to be honest but once I finished my first listen, it just feels like she has a huge hit on her hands.

And G-Eazy is cherry on a pie!!!

Posted by: Joe. 15th July 2016, 12:07 PM

Up to 6 on UK iTunes, I didn't think she'd be able to manage that!

Holding strong at #1 on US iTunes, Katy is #2 but will see on the next Kworb update what the gap is.

It's on repeat. Already within my top 20 Britney singles.

Ohhh where?

How do we feel this will do in America? iHeart is supporting it.

1
Britney Spears - Make Me... (feat. G-Eazy)
1.0000
2
Katy Perry - Rise
0.6257
3
Calvin Harris - This Is What You Came For (feat. Rihanna)

Can she get her first billboard top 10 since I Wanna Go?

Posted by: *Tim 15th July 2016, 12:41 PM

Streaming (both spotify/apple etc and Youtube) and sales go from friday to thursday, Airplay starts on mondays I thought it was

Posted by: Tyler 15th July 2016, 12:41 PM

I'm surprised her lead is still so strongly beating Katy!

I think the USA is going to eat this up. This is nostalgic Britney. It's her first time not sing talking since 'Circus' besides maybe, 'Perfume'. And her biggest critique in America was changing it up from electro bangers.

I'm not sure about the UK. If she just releases the song and a video for the UK, I can see it doing as well as 'Hold It Against Me', perhaps. But, if she wants to exceed that she needs to promote.

And I guess I shouldn't say confirmed. Inside sources, one of them being who we got the first LQ clip of make me from.

Let me explain why I said what I said. If you are saying her vocals are weak here, then you literally have to hate everything she has done since 2008, vocal wise. Which is fine, but, that would make you a hater.

I'm not trying to say it's not okay to enjoy the song for its production or G-Eazy because they are both brilliant.

Not really. You don't have to be a hater to be indifferent about someone.

Unless you define a hater as anyone who isn't a die hard fan.

Not entirely true tho. You can find someone's voice unpleasant to listen to, but great production can make that less prominent, as can a feature.

Yes.

I guess too it's hard to understand after her speak vocals that make up the majority of her previous releases over the last decade.

So, if you don't like her voice here... When did you ever like it? I mean the only era with better vocals is maybe 'Baby' and 'Oops'. But, even then MM's vocals are better than some of the vocals on 'In The Zone'. I also, love her higher register. I'M ALSO A CRAZY STAN THAT'S REALLY TRYING TO ACCEPT wrong OTHER OPINIONS.

Also - was just going through some of the comments on youtube,

Are people so easily manipulated that if supporters of Katy Perry's Rise start slagging off Make Me then supporters of Make me automatically start slagging off Rise purely out of misguided loyalty.

The most common word seems to be "haters", "slay".

This didn't happen when Radiohead released their surprise new song.

Ranking her lead singles is so hard. Seriously, a collection of some of pop's best moments in the last 20 years.

1. Baby One More Time
2. Gimme More (this top 2 will never change, my tie for favorite song of all time)
3. I'm A Slave 4 U
4. Work Bitch
5. Make Me
6. Oops... I Did It Again
7. Womanizer
8. Me Against The Music
9. 3
10. Hold It Against Me
11. My Prerogative

Top 8 are all 11/10 moments for me. The rest 10/10, except HIAM which id still rate a 9.5/10. Put MP last since it's a cover.

Also, this has a few second scenes from the commercial/video. Thought I'd share!

ALSO! It is starting to stabilize at #2. Back to the very light red updates. She may fall to #3 but, I don't see her going out of the top 5 anytime this week.

Also, rising rapidly on Spotify. She's already risen 25+ spots in the 200 most listened to artists WW.

I really like this song, it's pretty good and can't wait to see the video. I really hope this becomes a hit for her, especially here in the UK where her last big hit was 'Scream & Shout' with will.i,am, and her last massive solo hit was 'Womanizer', wow can't believe she hasn't had a solo top 5 hit since 2008 and despite releasing some great tunes since then such as 'Til' The World Ends' & 'Work Bitch', still bothered that 'TTWE' didn't even make the top 20, it should smashed and out peaked the lead single at least.

So yeah really hoping this can put her back on top here, but at the moment I don't really know where to rank this amongst her other hits just yet, because I really need to listen to this more and give it some more time. Okay I know UK#1 is a long shot, but come on this at least deserves top 5, and hope it hangs around the charts for while and sells really well.

Also what I've heard of 'Private Show' sounds really good and interesting, so hopefully the full version of that will be great also. 'Make Me' has really good solid production and honestly doesn't need that G-Eazy rap, but it does add some flavour to it though. So yes this is definitely a great comeback single for her and something really different for her, which I like and glad she's not playing it safe. Let's just hope it pays off.

Capital are playing it though - not a huge amount but they are playing it. Hopefully they don't lose faith straight away as they're quite a fickle station and watch iTunes closely. The fact it's doing well on US Spotify will most likely have a knock on effect on UK Spotify, too, espcially if it mananges to get into the global top 50.

Make Me has overtaken Work Bitch. 😭

So now;

1. Baby One More Time
2. Gimme More
3. Slave 4 U
4. Make Me
5. Work Bitch

THE GUITAR IN THE BACKGROUND AND HER FALSETTO MAKES THIS SONG INSTANTLY ONE OF HER BEST. It's a perfect mix of early Britney meets modern Britney. It's current, yet, it envokes nostalgia of her original R&B influenced vocal style.

I'll try and do a lead single rank but 'Make Me...' is so new and her leads are SO good that I doubt it will break out of the bottom 3 for me yet.

The first week sales for her lead singles in the UK are as follows:

463,722 Baby One More Time (#1, 1999)
124,000 Oops! I Did It Again (#1, 2000)
54,000 I'm a Slave 4 U (#4, 2001)
48,751 Me Against the Music (#2, 2003)
41,582 My Prerogative (#3, 2004)
17,608 Gimme More (#3, 2007)
46,550 Womanizer (#3, 2008)
42,425 3 (#7, 2009)
38,779 Hold It Against Me (#6, 2011)
31,783 Work Bitch (#7, 2013)
19,488 Pretty Girls (#16, 2015)

'Gimme More' managed 32,134 in its second week following its physical release.

Ignoring 'Pretty Girls' (which is a good rule of thumb in general) and the blip of 'Gimme More' due to its split release of physical and download, those are really consistent first week sales when you consider relevancy and singles market at the time.

The current thresholds for the singles chart are roughly 22-25k for #20, ~18k for #30, ~14k for #40 and ~12k for #50, so use that to guesstimate what 'Make Me...' might sell.

Posted by: Joe. 18th July 2016, 11:11 AM

I feel like this'll be her lowest, BUT, it could climb very soon if Spotify goes well.

Posted by: Rob Spears 18th July 2016, 01:22 PM

I agree, I think it will debut low (lower than Pretty Girls) but will climb and stabilise after the video is released and airplay increases.

Posted by: Joe. 18th July 2016, 01:26 PM

I'm told it's playlisted on Capital, but if it keeps falling on iTunes at the same rate it might get taken off.

#28 for Tuesday's UK midweek.

Posted by: Tyler 20th July 2016, 01:25 PM

Hopefully video is our Friday so it can get a huge gain its second week!

Posted by: liamk97 20th July 2016, 01:30 PM

A video in the second week is usually one of the best strategies for artists using an OA/OS release but aren't quite able to rely just on airplay to keep them up. It means the fanbase all rush to buy in the first week and the second is focused on expanding the song's audience. The video will inevitably give the song a boost so it's good to do it now whilst it is just starting to fall, meaning it won't have far to climb to get back up to a decent position, in comparison to if they waited until the song fell to, say, #100. Plus, it will hopefully mean Capital stay on board because they have a habit of removing songs too early just because it seems like they're 'flopping', despite it being the radio station at fault for not recognising the nature of most OA/OS releases.

I'm worried about this with Capital too, it's on their lowest (daytime) playlist right now which is good but not amazing. She really needs to get the video out within the next few days. With Now coming out on Friday it could have quite the freefall on iTunes.

Britney is serving like she hasn't in years.

I think this is the main reason she is serving like she used to in her prime. I think the constant traveling to tour/promote right after her troubled times is the main reason it has taken her a decade to finally regain that spark and believe in herself again. Circus & Femme Fatale, while fantastic albums, were really done just to keep Britney's brand at an iconic level, while keeping the several products she has released selling at that top dollar. Britney makes 80% of her money off merchandise, touring/Vegas, perfume, endorsements etc. What keeps those things at such a success? Britney being a successful pop icon. (Even though she could retire tomorrow and her perfumes alone would keep her and the entire Britney Brand employed for decades to come.

I think they finally found what makes Britney beam about her career again, and that's doing what she loves while not having to compromise her time down with her family. Vegas is localized, yet an effective way to still perform for the majority of her fans. Do I think she should tour Europe, South America and Canada? Yeah! But, I know focusing on North America is what is really making her able to focus on getting back to her old self.

I know the USA, Brazil (most of South America stans harder for Britney than the US, but the US is still her most profitable), Canada, UK, France and then I forget the last... It's either Germany or Japan.

With that being said, the U.K. used to rival the US for being her most profitable market (percent wise). But, that has fallen significantly with each album since 'Circus'. And TBH, I think she is okay with just keeping her brand profitable outside of North & South America. I do think she cares about Europe to a certain extent, but, being an international success is just a bonus to her now and not a priority. And I'm not complaining even if she flops outside of her main market because the material she is releasing now is PHENOMENAL! Quality >>> Sales.

From multiple sources, Britney and Larry Rudolph have put in a large sum of money from their own pockets to get the video ready by Friday (July 22nd), which was the songs original planned release date, with August 5th being the original planned release for the video. Which is also why promo was not planned until this weekend.

ALSO 'Make Me' has already surpassed 'Pretty Girls' peak on radio in its first week!

I played Make Me through my phone in the staff room today, on the last day of term! laugh.gif Last day of term and a couple of other TAs were intrigued by it so I put it on, I think it got good reviews so that's promising! Also led to us having a bit of a Britney sesh after wub.gif

Ok girls, outpeaking PG it isn't mine or neither Britney's team goal!!

That never was a big hurdle to begin with, but what we want is a summer smash with longevity chart run!!!

Posted by: Tyler 20th July 2016, 05:15 PM

It's still good that she out peaked it in just 5 days.

Posted by: Euphorique 20th July 2016, 07:31 PM

I'm just shocked Ooh La La got all the way up to #21 on Pop...

Posted by: Tyler 20th July 2016, 10:02 PM

Britney is up to #9 on The USA's viral 50 on Spotify.

It's also #48 overall, beating PG's peak of #99

Same. Don't get me wrong, of course I want everything she does to smash and be a huge success. But, Britney fans as a whole care way to much about what other people think about what she releases. It's just like how half of her fanbase would have praised the f*** out of 'Pretty Girls' if it was a smash, not because of the quality of the music (or lack of). She is delivering music and visuals we have been begging for, FOR OVER A DECADE. Who gives a f***?

I just need the singles from this album to smash enough for us to get more than 2 or 3! She stops releasing as soon as a single misses the top 20 these days. So, that is the ONLY reason I want it to smash the charts here in the USA.

Enjoy the music! I'd still be jamming to it if it totally missed the top 200. Quality is not correlated with chart success.

Now, do I want her to promote? Hell yes! But not because I care completely about the charts, but, because she's my favorite performer and I love the chance to further appreciate her brilliant character through interviews.

Exactly, so if she doesn't do promo, or if her team doesn't handle this project amazingly, we wont get jack shit.

Posted by: Tyler 21st July 2016, 01:02 AM

In her defense we haven't gotten any promo this week because she has been spending time with her kids after the recent installment of Vegas shows. That's why we haven't gotten Jack shit promo this week because of the rushed release. Video was never planned to even be close to available this past week. I can reveal from a source I trust, that she has put in her own money to get the video out quicker (hiring extra editing hands, etc). With that being said iTunes banners must be bought two weeks in advance and hers were already pre planned to come out this upcoming week. There was no way to move that up when Katy Perry had already purchased all of the promo banners available. On top of that she always has her promo planned way in advance, because she always puts her kids first. If she has them, she's with them and not even slightly worried about where her new release is on iTunes. And that's the exact type of person I would want to stan for.

Her fans and career are completely irrelevant to her when she has Sean & Jayden, and I'm glad she refused to move up her promo when she has a summer vacation planned with them.

Posted by: Umi 21st July 2016, 02:13 AM

Yeah it's important to remember that things were pushed really far ahead of where they were supposed to be for her and that means a lot of things got thrown out of whack. Video wasn't supposed to be out, promo wasn't booked, banners weren't booked, etc. There's nothing you can do about that. On top of this, you can tell she had planned to spend this time with her kids and that makes absolute sense - she's about to be very busy with this album campaign, she's gonna want to spend time with her kids before a lot of her time is taken away again. Is she supposed to cancel holidays she'd promised her kids just because stans on Exhale are unhappy with her?

We'd all like her to be doing promo right now but it's not her fault she isn't - blame the people who forced the early release of this song. The song will get a decent push, it's just not at the ideal time. And that's almost entirely out of her hands, too.

Posted by: London81 21st July 2016, 09:49 AM

Have seen that she's moved up to #40 on US Spotify (+8). Now that's what's important right now. This song is being set up nicely for a video release - no need to panic. Itunes is not the most important factor anymore. Was just reading in the radio playlist thread that the song has been added to capital's playlist. Also good news.
I'm intrigued to know the US radio updates.

Great to have seen it climb from 20 to 18 on US iTunes this morning....

I'm hearing whispers that the video is out next month. It's fine in America with pop and HAC radio kicking off.

I know it's not priority, but I really wish things were going a bit better in the UK, if the video isn't out soon to give it a boost, it'll probably be given up on altogether very soon. I can see Capital dropping it next week, as Now/new releases tomorrow could see it leave the top 100. :/

Posted by: Tyler 21st July 2016, 02:28 PM

I'm hearing two very different scenarios about the video. There are some saying the record label wants to wait so it comes out closer to the RUMORED VMA performance. But, surely they aren't trying to wait that long. TEASERS AT LEAST.

Posted by: London81 21st July 2016, 03:23 PM

I really hope it comes out on Friday. Surely it would make more sense to release Friday to boost second week sales and peak higher and then if the VMA performance is true, this would ensure its longevity later on. Plus I really want to see it. To be honest, even with the video, I'm not sure how much impact it will have in the UK. I think she'd have to promote over here to get any impact.

A really good video would give her a big leg up here, if it came out early enough.

Posted by: London81 21st July 2016, 03:25 PM

I hope you're right. I just remember thinking that with WB and it didn't have much impact. The song still fell fast out of the U.K. Charts.

Posted by: Umi 21st July 2016, 03:55 PM

Its radio performance is really encouraging, I hope this isn't a flash in the pan thing. It's particularly great to see the song making inroads on Hot AC and Rhythmic, even if they're small. Britney getting any level of crossover beyond Pop radio is a good thing that she hasn't had for a while.

Such a great climb on US Spotify today as well!

Yeah, he's massive on Spotify over here and his last single has sold nearly 500,000 copies. He was featured on that track 'You Don't Own Me' which hit #4 before Christmas and has sold over 500,000 copies.

Posted by: Joe. 21st July 2016, 06:36 PM

He's had some hits but isn't really going to turn heads that much. Nathan Skyke's most recent single featured him and was one of the biggest flops of the year. He does add a cool factor to the song though.

Nathan Sykes has never had a hit though has he? biggrin.gif

G-Eazy won't do any harm to the song commercially but I doubt he'll help it THAT much either tbh

Posted by: JosephStyles 21st July 2016, 07:30 PM

I think G-Eazy will only really help in terms of radio. You Don't Own Me and Me, Myself & I were both big hits so having him on the song will hopefully make stations like R1 a bit less reluctant to play it. It's not guaranteed though, as Joe said with the Nathan Sykes song (he'd had two top 20 hits before the G-Eazy song which went top 60!).

Posted by: Viper* 21st July 2016, 07:43 PM

I'm so over Britney flopping. This is the most radio friendly, solid pop hit in recent years, I don't get why people just see her name and instantly discredit her.

If this song was by Jess Glynne or any other current female pop commodity, it would be a LOT bigger and doing much better commercially.

[/End Rant]

Posted by: Joe. 21st July 2016, 07:58 PM

I wouldn't say she's flopping, things are very uncertain. It's still doing good things on US radio and streaming. It might just take a while for iTunes to catch up. I'm admittedly a little worried that people are saying the video won't come for 3 weeks etc, but when it does come, it's sure to have an impact.

Posted by: liamk97 21st July 2016, 08:04 PM

I wouldn't be so worried for her UK success if Capital weren't notorious for dropping songs just because they don't perform to their unreasonable expectations. If they stay on board, then we get the video and promo whenever they're due, it would help the song to perform in the usual OA/OS manner.

This basically. This is happening with all my faves, it's so frustrating, she's only 34! pirate.gif She's basically the same age as Katy and Gaga but because she's been out for more than 10 years they suddenly wanna act like she never existed cry.gif This ageism is only a recent thing, radio still played Janet and Madonna well into the early 2000s.

Joe and Liam, I have nothing but love for my fellow Britney fans and I know we all hope for the best for her so your optimism is exactly right, so this is said in tough love, not rudeness.

Wake up! She won't hit top 10 in the UK, hell even Top 20 is starting to look like a struggle.
USA she's not gonna have too bad of a first week or two then it will plummet. It's awful and it's harsh, but it's total reality!

This song should be a hit. A current up and coming feature. Some of the best vocals she's laid in a long time. She's looking better than ever. The song is the perfect balance of sex appeal and a touch of the classic Britmey ballads.

Hell, forget me saying another artist recording this song would make this a hit. Britney 10/15 years ago would have made this huge.

Posted by: Jonjo 22nd July 2016, 01:04 AM

Not in the US. Her airplay is increasing at a brilliant rate and is likely to become her biggest radio hit in a while! I completely see what you mean for the UK & the average Joe seeing her name and ignoring it on that basis alone. Although, I do believe it's FAR too early to be labelling it a "flop", no matter how likely the outcome is, we really CAN'T be doing it in this day & age and the amount of hits this year alone that looked likely to struggle, but went on to be hits, despite "disappointing" peaks.

Radio 1 and Capital piss me off no matter what though, so I'm in complete agreement with you in terms of radio play for the UK. Especially Capital! They're always posting positive stuff about her/her IG posts and videos etc... but when it comes to the song and when it comes to radio actually being able to help in a songs success and how they have treated past songs by other artists by not continuing to support the song just because it's not a hit straight away is ridiculous. The whole Carly Rae and 'Run Away With Me' situation is still one of the most infuriating things I've ever seen from Capital.

I just want radio in the UK to rally behind it, because I do believe it'll have a knock-on effect and like you guys have said, it's her most radio friendly single in a long, LONG time.

But Tyler is also right, tbh UK success isn't really a big deal to me anymore. Especially if she's delivering the goods! As far as I'm concerned, if she's releasing stuff and I'm happy with it, I couldn't care less. I might get a bit frustrated a few times, but I'll be over it a lot quicker than I would've been say, 5 years or so ago.

Posted by: Joe. 22nd July 2016, 04:19 AM

I don't expect much from the UK but the US is her biggest market and it seems to be doing alright there!

Songs never peak on the first week unless you're a very small handful of artists - so it's too early to say in the US. All the new releases are having big falls on iTunes. 5Sos, Snakehips (who had a boost in the UK from TOTD). Ariana is a hugely hyped artist but Dangerous Woman took forever to peak in the US because it took a long time for radio to catch up.

Posted by: Atonement 22nd July 2016, 06:45 AM

I'm addicted to this now *.*. I love the guitar, especially in the chorus, and the post-chorus bridge after the second and third chorus gives me life. G-Eazy's feature is also a welcome addition. Her best single since 'Break the Ice' biggrin.gif

Posted by: London81 22nd July 2016, 07:43 AM

I completely agree with Viper with regards to success or lack of it in the Uk. But I don't think this is the case in the US. The early signs look very good for the US and I'm hoping she will have a slow burner there. She's had a good first week. There's no banner on Uk itunes btw, ever though there's one on the US itunes. I think that again shows they are not so certain about success in the Uk. Hell, I've been promoting this single in the Uk more than Britney's team.

Posted by: Joe. 22nd July 2016, 07:56 AM

Like, in America, Needed Me never went near top 10 on US iTunes but was top 10 on Billboard due to good streaming and really good airplay. Both of which Britney is increasing at at a pleasing rate. It's only NOW, that iTunes is catching on for Needed Me. Dangerous Woman peaked at #8 on its 11th week. #SlowCharts

I hope by some miracle she can climb back into the top 40 here at some point. The song really deserves it. Such a shame Hot Hits UK playlist won't add it on Spotify.

Those first week sales are also not far off those of 'Pretty Girls' which reached #16. Good going considering one was held back for a long period and one has only just been released and is little known outside her fanbase.

I guess that's it for the UK then, it's tumbled too far down iTunes for when the video comes for it to have a big enough effect to get noticed by Radio. Capital will probably drop it on Wednesday as a result of this and there's no way Radio 1 will touch it.

But I'm focusing on America - pull through USA! <3

We were all expecting a 16-20 million AI drop from rolling!

That means it still gained over 4 million AI, it just didn't gain 15 million AI. (15 - 11 = 4)

Posted by: Joe. 23rd July 2016, 01:32 PM

It had a radio deal on its first day, which is why this is so harsh. People were expecting worse apparently.

Posted by: Tyler 23rd July 2016, 01:38 PM

As expected the rolling effect hit the song hard today, because of the radio deal last week, but it wasn't that bad. I was expecting -12/-13 million.

Last Friday she got 1535 spins (radio deal) and today's update shows -952 spins so that means "Make Me..." had 583 spins yesterday and that's the biggest spin update EVER since the first day. Slay a bit.

Its not about being stale, its about songs not even being top10 in sales being #1 for 15 weeks. For me, its now irrelevant.
As stale as the US chart is, they've had decades of mastering a multi-based chart. Their formula is successful, the UK one isnt and needs tweaking.

Anyway, the rolling effect was smooth, and spins since then have been huge so it has kept its momentum, which is what is important.

yesterday she was no.24 so it's going up.. and no.29 was last weeks position.

some people are saying that they were expecting another negative update today, slower than yetsrdays around -2.000, but since it's positive it's good.. we'll see tmrrw

It's good! Anything positive this week is good! PG stayed negative the first 5 days after the rolling effect. Work Bitch dropped for 4 days. Make Me is gaining again after just one day of suffering from the rolling effect!

I really wish she would call in to some radio shows and capitalize on the revitalized interest in her from radio...

Posted by: Tyler 24th July 2016, 04:07 PM

Also, she has dethroned Sia's Cheap Thrills for the top song on top 40 on http://ratethemusic.com

This is a site used by American radio to get feed back on what to play! If you haven't done it yet make an account and put your favorite genre as top 40. Rate 'Make Me' as "I like it a lot" and that you are NOT tired of hearing it.

QUOTE(Joe. @ Jul 24 2016, 01:17 PM) *
I have no idea how bad or good that is. Umi?

Flattered at you picking me of all people! I will try to be helpful. I MAY have messed up on day 1 but I'm pretty certain this is the comprehensive listing of her daily audiences to date:

Day 1: 15.564m
Day 2: 3.581m
Day 3: 3.166m
Day 4: 2.885m
Day 5: 2.950m
Day 6: 3.680m
Day 7: 3.185m
Day 8: 3.241m
Day 9: 3.974m

Today was actually Brit's biggest audience yet not involving a radio deal. She only managed (+ 0.383) because the day she was rolling from was day 2, which had one of her biggest audiences yet (3.581m). If Brit gets the exact same audience tomorrow as she got today, her update will be (+ 0.808), which looks a lot better. As long as her audience doesn't outright drop, she should see pretty big updates all the way until day 13 (which will be compared to her second biggest first week day), and from then on it's impossible to guess what'll happen without having an idea of how much the song will build.

As you can tell from the list, her audience is growing slowly and it's a little bit more variable than we'd ideally like. However, just the fact that 'Make Me' at this point is being heard by more people than it was this time last week is good. It means this isn't just another "Britney hype goes crazy and then nobody likes the song" release. As Tyler noted, both 'Work Bitch' and 'Pretty Girls' actually received less airplay for the majority of their second weeks than they did in their first weeks.

I'll update this list every day I remember because it's a pretty clean way to see where the momentum is going, especially in the first rolling week which always creates so much confusion.

Posted by: Umi 24th July 2016, 07:47 PM

I forgot to add but I personally am a lot more worried about the Spotify progress of this song than the radio progress. First week of rolling always dampens a song but I can't figure out why it's suddenly dropping on Spotify like this as I don't analyse it enough to know of any relevant patterns - all I can imagine is it's gotten less promo via playlists on there. Really need it to pick up on iTunes too.

Posted by: Joe. 24th July 2016, 09:15 PM

Thanks for the info Umi. I really hope she can make it into the top 20 on pop this week. My American friend said it's only really when a song gets into the top 20 that you noticeably start hearing it on the radio as a causal listener.

Yeah looking at Spotify from a UK's point of view, once a song makes the top 50 for that country it has a huge boost and stays there for ages until people are really sick of it. Obviously it's not the same in the US, as it only spent 3/4 days in there after making it as high as #40. It's still right at the very bottom of the main US pop playlist (Today's Top hits). In the UK we have the weekend effect that sees a significant drop in newer songs while older hits rise. And then newer songs rise from Monday. I wonder if the same thing happens in the US?

No, it's literally number of streams per day I think.

Posted by: Tyler 24th July 2016, 09:28 PM

Well, I think it's normal for it to drop a little after its initial hype. It will rise again as AirPlay builds.

Posted by: Addy K!ng 25th July 2016, 01:15 AM

Also weekends usually old songs seems to get more plays than new songs.

Spears starts at No. 17 on the Hot 100 with "Make Me," featuring G-Eazy. Sales likewise account for the majority of the song's Hot 100 start, as it bows at No. 3 on Digital Songs (96,000 sold), while nearing Streaming Songs (5.3 million domestic streams) and Radio Songs (20 million in audience). On Pop Songs, the cut climbs 31-24 in its second week.

Spears last charted on the Hot 100 last year with the No. 29-peaking "Pretty Girls," with Iggy Azalea. She last ranked higher than No. 17 with 2013's No. 12-debuting and -peaking "Work B**ch!," the lead single from her last album, Britney Jean.

"Make Me" is Spears's 34th Hot 100 entry and ties her introductory smash "…Baby One More Time" (No. 17, 1998) for her sixth-highest debut. Her five best beginners, by rank: "Hold It Against Me" (No. 1, 2011); "3" (No. 1, 2009); "Circus" (No. 3, 2008); "Work B**ch!" (No. 12, 2013); and "Scream & Shout," with will.i.am (No. 12, 2012). Spears has scored 13 Hot 100 top 10s, including five No. 1s.

Day 2: 3.581m
Day 3: 3.166m
Day 4: 2.885m
Day 5: 2.950m

Day 8: 3.241m
Day 9: 3.974m
Day 10: 3.986m
Day 11: 3.625m

Let's hope today is a blip on radio. Good spins but poor AI so she's just wanting the bigger stations to get on board.

Spotify news is good, at least!

Hello. I'm new here, but I have membership in other pop forums. I hope the video comes ASAP. I don't want another Pretty Girls era disaster because this song has so much potential and deserves to smash. It's a genuinely good song! wub.gif

Same! What is your favorite Britney song/album? (Is the song IYSA? laugh.gif )

Posted by: Joe. 26th July 2016, 04:32 PM

I really want this to happen for her.

I think the slowly increasing airplay is beginning to have an effect on iTunes, where its stabilised for sure and even might be climbing. It was 35 yesterday morning and only 4/15 of its updates on kworb have been red.

I am positive tomorrow MM will get back to top 50 on spotify. Also should radio updates pick up after Saturday since this week it is going against first week (against huge updates)?

I'm shocked it's still even in the top 100. ohmy.gif

Pretty Girls plummeted to #42 on iTunes on Day 9 and the video then boosted it up to #28 (for a short while). For this to be #28 on day 12 without a video is quite pleasing to see. However, it fell again on Spotify, hopefully streaming picks up and stabilises.

Radio updates are looking pretty good and glad it's still in the top 30 on itunes. I hope the video comes this Friday. Any news on this?

I don't expect much promo, though it'd obviously be nice. But I just think it's absolutely pivotal they finish the re-shooting and editing of the video and get it out ASAP.

I feel like its stability on iTunes and Spotify should stop radio from dropping it too fast?

Posted by: Tyler 28th July 2016, 01:44 PM

Yeah radio is actually doing just fine, TBH. I mean it gained just under 4 million AI this time 7 days ago so it makes sense, when the prior two days in the rolling effect she didn't gain near as much.

It's not exceptional, but, it's doing good.

Day 10: 3.986m
Day 11: 3.625m
Day 12: 3.850m

Today's update (+ 0.216) looks bad but that's mostly because this day last week was her biggest normal day of the entire week. She still got more airplay in today's update than she has for a few days now, so it's a meh update but it's not actually bad.

Posted by: liamk97 28th July 2016, 05:23 PM

What number would she need to get up to for it to be considered good airplay? And how good is that 15.5m from Day 1?

"Good" airplay is hard to define, but you can definitely set goals for her based on the airplay chart. To be top 40 on radio you need about 4.3m daily audience, which is not too far above where Brit is at right now. To get top 20 she'll need about 8m AI daily and to get top 10 she'll need... well, pretty close to the 15.5m AI she got on day 1. That sounds like a huge uphill task but radio gains can be pretty explosive and Britney can easily start making huge inroads, especially once the video is out.

Still, my list is more about tracking the trend in her airplay and less about measuring her performance, and you're better off looking at her overall numbers for that. You can make a judgment about how high her airplay is from mine but it's quicker to do that by looking at her overall number. My list is more a quick and easy way to see whether her airplay is increasing or decreasing during the initial weeks.

King Of USA chart information, TBH.

Thank you Umi. heart.gif

Posted by: Joe. 28th July 2016, 09:17 PM

I really hope she can get top 20 soon. I feel like once she's top 20 we might see more of a noticeable rise in streaming and sales.

Also. GET THE VIDEO OUT. [for the 17th time]

FYI, there's nothing to worry about today's pop update if it's considered last week's update, which was this:

CHR/Pop:
-- 23 BRITNEY SPEARS Make Me f/G-Eazy 3417 0 3417 28.830

+516 Spins
+516 Bullet
+3.331 Audience

As you could see, the spins are still increasing and despite the audience has decreased, the main reason of this is because it had its best update post radio deal last Thursday. Also, it should be considered that it's the second week of the track, so it's stabilizing after the updates it got in last week, which was the first week. I expect tomorrow's update to be in the same vein of today's because of http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=187197&view=findpost&p=5451271, but Saturday's update should be much better because of the rolling effect. That said, next week is crucial, but it's looking good so far.

The video was definitely scrapped, but a new one was filmed a few weeks ago. So this new one shouldn't take too long hopefully.

Posted by: Umi 29th July 2016, 06:15 PM

I have to say the whole fiasco with the video has caused me to lose a lot of faith in this song doing well and that's depressing considering what it means for her career. We really shouldn't be at this point in the song's life still questioning when a video is going to be released and the reshoot means that no matter when it comes, it probably won't be attention-grabbing enough to make any sort of difference to the song. Combine that with the Spotify & airplay stalling, plus the song randomly collapsing on iTunes (what is going on there?) and it just seems like the song's chances of success are evaporating rapidly.

The song's chart life started out so well, it's really depressing to see it killed off by poor management decisions.

Posted by: Joe. 29th July 2016, 06:32 PM

The iTunes collapse was to do with the banner being taken down I think.

I agree Umi. I do think unless the video comes out within the next few days; the song is destined to be another underperformance. The two biggest stations Z100 and Kiis have already stopped giving the song many spins in the day and reduced it to mainly night spins.

Posted by: Umi 29th July 2016, 06:38 PM

Day 1: 15.564m
Day 2: 3.581m

Day 6: 3.680m

Day 11: 3.625m
Day 12: 3.850m
Day 13: 3.896m
Day 14: 3.245m

Really grim today. The lack of real progress on radio wasn't concerning until now but today is the first update she's had that I'd consider outright bad and there's just no incentive for big radio stations to pick up the song with how poorly she's performing on every other platform. I can imagine her never going over 4 million daily audience now, which is just woeful.

Hopefully the initial interest in the song got her name out there enough for her to have some chance of success if her next single is also great and not terribly managed, but given Britney's chart fortunes in recent years it's just insane to let a hit slip out of your fingers like this.

Posted by: Tyler 29th July 2016, 07:03 PM

She is starting radio interviews on Monday. We did our jobs as a fanbase. I'm not stressing over it, TBH.

If she or any of her team cared we would be seeing that. I still think we should hold out on the all is doomed stuff, though.
