As was explained in the other thread, the wonderful Martin (Ghosty) has decided to step back due to other commitments for a short period before deciding if he wishes to continue with the role. I would like to take this time to thank Martin for his very hard work as a member of this team, he has been a truly outstanding co-mod and it has been a genuine pleasure to work with him.

Job Title \\ Member of the Buzzjack Song Contest Veto Team

Salary \\ £0 this role is a voluntary position

About BJSC and the duties and responsibilities of the role \\ The Buzzjack Song Contest is a 5 year old contest that has just passed it's 50th contest. The role available will involve you helping to run the day to day side of the contest including approving dates and vetting entries and helping to ensure that the contest continues to be a fun way to discover new music.

Additional Responsibilities \\ The stats will be covered by me during Martin's leave of absence so you can all take a collective breath again. Although it will be expected that you will take on the role of stats mod should Martin step down.

Essential Qualifications \\ To apply for this role you have to be a member of the Buzzjack Song Contest and have participated in the contest without being banned from the contest. We also require you to be enthusiastic about making this contest the best it can be. Also, don't be dull. We work so very well as a team because we all get along very well so a sense of humour and a willingness to be chatty is pretty desirable. We are humans after all! The whole us being robots thing is just a rumour.

Duration \\ One month temporary position that may become a permanent moderator position.

To apply for this role please PM the answers to the questions below to a member of the moderating team. (It'd be helpful if you copy & pasted the questions too)

Application form:

Why do you think you are suitable for this role? (Basically: What is your genre's of choice, are you willing to keep up-to-date with the latest tracks and can you handle people saying you're shit for vetoing their hideously cheap song?)

What do you think you could bring to the role of BJSC Moderator should the position arise?

As part of this role you will be required to keep many of the things discussed within the staff forum and comments made confidential as well as the discussions regarding potential veto's. Do you foresee any issues with this? (If you do have issues with this I strongly suggest you don't hit send)

Do you have any experience with the running of a forum? If so please tell us about this. (Don't worry if you don't. We all started out without experience somewhere.)

If you wish to add anything not covered by the questions above please do tell us!!! (Basically: Why you should be chosen)

As I said yesterday, this is to be part of the veto team and assist with the day-to-day running of the contest. You will not become a moderator if selected for one of the months. This is due to the extra time it would take for the Senior Management team to vet our choices and then add and remove multiple permissions each month; the fact that this will be viewed as a one month trial run to see if you are the right fit for the team; and finally because Martin has not stepped down from his role. He will return later in the year to see if he still feels the same before either stepping down or returning. If he decides to step down, which is unfortunately looking likely, then we will recommend our preferred replacement to the senior management team based on your month as a veto team member.

I know this is already very long but I'm almost done, I promise!!!

Ideally I would like to take on up to 5 people. Each of you will be assigned one of the next five contests (LII, LIII, LIV, LV and LVI). Because of this we are going to be moving very quickly on this. You will have until 4PM GMT ON TUESDAY THE 19TH OF FEBRUARY to send a moderator your application. Late applications will not be accepted for the same reasons that showing up late for an interview basically guarantees that you will not be getting the job.

Because the Stats part is off the table for the temporary section of this role and this is pretty much just being the fourth man at the veto table for now I expect a lot of applications. I'd like to see them from people who constantly ride us over veto's, people who don't think they could do this job (push yo' self boy!), people who have applied before (100th time lucky Pavel???), people who are curious as to what the mods even do around here, people who want to better understand the veto system etc. Basically everyone. If we don't get enough good applications to fill 5 months we'll cut the number of positions available, but I'd much rather have too many so we have to score you ESC style to get our top 5.

GO GO GO!

It's been pointed out to me that something needs to be better stated.

In the event that Martin steps down it will be the role of Stats Mod that is available and thus the best of the temporary moderators will be asked to fulfil that role. I will take over for the duration of the temporary positions as I believe that seeing how we work together and how you cope with the veto is of vital importance and the stats role is something that you can hit the ground running with pretty easily. Coping with people constantly having a go when they disagree with a veto decision you've made and working well with us is what this trail is really all about.

This is also pending approval by the Senior Management Team and in the event we fail to secure that approval this will simply serve as the applications to replace Martin should he decide to fully step down.

Thank you to the two applicants thus far and happy applying to everyone else!

Up to four applications now but I'd still like more! I know, what a greedy shit.

I just believe that there is quite a number of people out there capable of stepping up into this role, many of whom have yet to apply. (also you can post in hurr, this ain't locked nor is it a secret that you've applied.)

Competition is heating up! We've had 6 applications now so at least one of our applicants will unfortunately not be getting a position.

Still want more applications though people! BJSC LII is approaching fast.

First time unexperienced and unlucky, second attempt at this. Best of luck to those who are also applying for a place at the veto panel!

Which takes us to 8!

Was getting worried when there was only two applications initially drama.gif Usually it's more front loaded than this. The both of the past two application cycles one of the last people to apply have taken home the job. Primarily because they blew us away. Poor Pavel has come runner up literally 5 times and in fact has had the job until Cal and Ghosty applied sad.gif Basically, the moral of the tale is give it a shot even if you think you stand no chance. We've acquired some good mods from people who thought 'bugger it, I'll give it a bash!'.

So give it a go! You have 16hours people!

I still feel a bit guilty about that because, if I remember correctly, my opening line to the application was something like "I have no idea why I'm doing this". laugh.gif

Might as well throw this out there that I've offered my services to the team.

I still have your application in my PM box!

I can confirm that your first line was indeed along those lines. To be precise it was: I’d like to apply for the mod position. I don’t really know why I’m doing it, but something in my head has been nagging at me to at least try, so I am! laugh.gif

Oh yeah, and Applications are closed. Finally tally stands at 10 which is pretty alright! I'm happy with that.

Naturally we are going to discuss all the applications and will try and come to an agreement as soon as we can!

Subject to final approvals and no objections to the combined top5 we should be announcing the temporary moderators, and what contest random.org gave them, tomorrow/monday! (depending on how much time Tom/Cal/Senior Management have tomorrow)

To work out who would gain the chance to be the first temporary mods in Buzzjack history we scored your applications and then they were totalled and ranked numerically. Anyone who appeared in all of our top 5's automatically gained a spot in the final 5. The logic being that the top5 is those you want to work with most and anyone appearing in all of our top5's is someone who we all agree we wish to work with and thus should go through. Any left over slots were then given to the highest points scorers that weren't automatically through. In interests of fairness at no point will how many points people scored be revealed nor any hint as to their rankings. We will also only name the successful applications as usual. We've never been asked for feedback before, but if you're desperate for some I'm happy to sum up our opinions on your application. We had a pretty decent standard of applications so don't feel bad if you missed out. Also, if you were successful don't look at the list and think 'oh fuck I'm clearly 5th on their list'. You may have come in any of the 5 places and we will be judging you on your performance during the month.

I know this seems pretty long winded for a post that gave you pretty much bugger all info but I wanted to be transparent about the process we went through to decide our final 5. happy.gif

COMPLEX.

In all seriousness, I'm kinda glad I didn't apply now as I didn't realise how... formal this would be? What would I have got myself into?!

It sounds more complicated that it is. I think....

We can only ever give Senior Management our preferred candidate(s) and then they take that into account. Although I've never had them not give the job to the people I/we recommend. That's the only really formal part. Anyone who's seen the inside of our staff forum can tell you how informal it is laugh.gif

It reads more like a formal job application because outside of this forum all I'm doing is French and Job applications. If my French wasn't so horrific there is a reasonable shot that the application would have been in French! heehee.gif
