In a bit of a pre-autumn lull but there are seven chart entries of varying quality to get our teeth into. Not really been bothered about Self Esteem other than her song with Django Django before but Girl Crush has really won me over and got me in the mood for the dying of the year. Think I only remember one Slow Club song. She is an odd artist in that she's too 6 Music for Radio 1 and vice versa.
Bags turned out to be pretty infectious, and You Already Know is back again now it's being properly pushed despite only ever threatening to get me right in the feels. The stats don't lie! August is traditionally a tad frustrating but high hopes for Q4 and the weeks leading up to it. We just seem to be rather short of songs I just can't help but play time and time again currently.
I don't know whether the fact the biggest "indie" bands Radio 1 has to offer are the same I was loving around a decade ago is a good or bad thing. But very much enjoyng the longevity of Foals. TDCC, Friendly Fires, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend etc. It would be nice to be won over by a blindingly good new guitar band, but I definitely don't feel these acts are complacently retreading old ground. Speaking of which, very impressed with the Sleater-Kinney album. Haven't Bring Me the Horizon been around since the dawn of time too?
But anyway, congratulations to drum 'n' bass veteran Nicolaas Douwma! I believe this is our first instrumental chart-topper. Tidal Wave would have been #1 for aeons were I doing this then.
