Oisin Murphy rode Alcohol Free to Coronation Stakes victory at a sodden Ascot just minutes after he was demoted to second place aboard Dragon Symbol in the Commonwealth Cup following a stewards' inquiry.

Murphy was first past the post ahead of Campanelle in the Commonwealth Cup.

The first and second places were, however, reversed by stewards after they scrutinised a thrilling finish.

Ioritz Mendizabal, Aidan O'Brien and Coolmore repeated their trick in another Chantilly Classic as Joan Of Arc powered to victory in the Prix de Diane.

Sat handily behind the leaders by Mendizabal, Joan Of Arc – a full sister to 2,000 Guineas winner Gleneagles – looked booked for minor honours in the home straight behind Sibila Spain, but stayed on gamely to haul down that rival in the final furlong to win by three quarters of a length.

Godolphin pair Adayar and Hurricane Lane, the Aga Khan's superstar mare Tarnawa and dual Oaks winner Snowfall have been declared for Sunday's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe as 15 runners stood their ground on Thursday.

The Roger Varian-trained Teona, who beat Snowfall in the Prix Vermeille this month, misses the race as the ground will be unsuitably soft.

Al Boum Photo could be seen more on a racecourse this season as Willie Mullins has said he is keen to get the dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner out earlier than his traditional New Year's Day date at Tramore.

Mullins has stuck to the tried and tested approach with Al Boum Photo for the last three years, kicking off his campaign in the Savills Chase at Tramore before heading straight to Cheltenham for the Gold Cup, but that trend could be tweaked this season.

Al Boum Photo won his first Gold Cup in 2019 after just one run at Tramore on New Year's Day and it was a similar story when he successfully defended his crown in 2020. His hat-trick attempt was foiled by Minella Indo in March and Mullins could alter his path back to the festival this time around.

Former jockey Adrian McCarthy has been found guilty of assault after punching and kicking his ex-girlfriend in the summer.

During the trial in Ipswich, the court heard from Emily Massam, the victim, who said that McCarthy had punched her in the face, knocked her to the floor and kicked her several times.

McCarthy, 42, denied the charge and claimed it was Massam, who he had been dating for around seven months, that had hit him a dozen times in the hallway of her Newmarket home on June 14.

Jockey Hollie Doyle has set a new record of wins for a British female rider in one year with her 152nd victory of 2021.

The 25-year-old reached the landmark aboard Mustazeed for trainer Chris Wall at Doncaster on Friday.

Doyle surpasses her own record of 151 wins set in December 2020, which beat her previous best of 117 in 2019.

Before her three consecutive record-breaking years, the top figure was 106 wins for Josephine Gordon in 2017.

John Gosden has taken a swipe at the BBC for its "negative" stance towards horseracing the day after he accused the broadcaster of putting a stain on his character in its reporting of his filly Franconia's positive test for ketamine.

The multiple British champion Flat trainer appeared on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday morning to discuss the BHA case concerning the disqualification of Franconia from a Listed race she won at Newbury last year following the positive test.

ITV Racing will broadcast nine hours of coverage live from Del Mar for the two-day Breeders' Cup meeting on November 5 and 6.

The action will be shown on ITV4 from 9.30pm on the opening day and 7.30pm on Saturday, before switching to ITV from 11.15pm for the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf and Longines Breeders' Cup Classic.

"While we transition into the jumps season and hunker down for the winter in the UK, it's a huge treat to be able to bring viewers some more Flat fireworks from the Breeders' Cup," said presenter Francesca Cumani.

Cumani will be joined in the US by co-host Ed Chamberlin, former jockey and trainer Johnny Murtagh and track reporter Luke Harvey.

Rachael Blackmore says she is delighted to be riding Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo in Saturday's Champion Chase at Down Royal despite having planned to be on board A Plus Tard.

Jack Kennedy rode Minella Indo at Cheltenham, but his trainer boss Gordon Elliott has him partnering Delta Work.

Last season's King George winner Frodon is also in the Down Royal field, with Bryony Frost again in the saddle.

"I'm really looking forward to it," said Blackmore, 32, of Saturday's race.

With Henry de Bromhead's Gold Cup runner-up A Plus Tard no longer part of the five-strong field in the first Grade One race of the National Hunt season, the trainer's hopes rest solely on his Cheltenham victor who looks set to be favourite.

Frodon and Bryony Frost held off Galvin in a thrilling finish to clinch victory in the Champion Chase at Down Royal.

Frodon's accurate jumping put Minella Indo under pressure but Rachel Blackmore nudged the favourite closer, while Galvin was creeping into it.

Minella Indo fell back but Galvin joined Frodon.

Frodon prevailed by three-quarters of a length in a dramatic finish with Minella Indo third.
