In the world of soapland. What has been the worst soap storyline that you've seen and why? Have there been any storylines which has been plain dull, crap.

Also who is the worst soap character that has been cast in any soap and why?

Sonia.

The Gavin storyline has to be up there with one of the worst. It had so much potential but he turned out to be a complete flop at resembling anything even remotely menacing; he'd just turn up out of the shadows and say or do something cartoony and just disappear. The sabotaging of the show's history to make it seem like he hang around with the Watts and the Mitchells and was in fact Sharon's father was the final straw though. Completely unnecessary and so contradictory - contradictory to not only things that were set in stone theoretically but also to stuff we actually saw on screen (e.g. we know that the Mitchells and Watts never crossed paths until Den returned from the dead, we know that Kathy didn't know Gavin before leaving for South Africa). Just a total disaster and the biggest thing to ruin what was otherwise a decent run from exc. producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins.

I actually love that line, it's such a Tracey thing to say (and don't say that's because she's shit too x).

I don't like soaps, they have become too extreme and silly and they can't allow characters to just be happy, they have to make them have affairs, or kill someone, or do something crazy.

Some of my least favourite storylines would be

- Bring Ronnie's long lost daughter in, only to have her be killed after Ronnie find out who she is + then a few years later, Ronnie STEALS a baby after hers dies.

- Ben killing Heather + Heather having a baby with Darren Miller, while he was still with Libby

- A Lady Gaga and Girls Aloud loving sweet Ben being turned into a killer, similar with Abi turning from a sweet girl into a gobby bitch

- Kathy Beale coming back from the dead

A storyline that actually excited me is the Lucy Beale murder and I actually tuned back in to the soap for that but then quickly got sick of all the tomfoolery and went off the soap again.

The two most unrealistic ones that I have seen are Marlon from Emmerdale and Dev from Coronation Street, Two completely over the top characters with few people like that all the time in real life.

I like Dev he is funny but Marlon and his mannerisms are just annoying most of the time imo

Storylines:

Dennis Rickman banging and marrying his sister Sharon which produced the inbred child known as "Denny" in EastEnders

Characters:
Dot Cotton (EastEnders)
Tony the nonce (EastEnders)

The fairground disaster in EastEnders
Kat's mysterious affair
Molly + Kevin's affair on Corrie
Harold Bishop attacking Paul Robinson
EastEnders teenage bus crash in Scotland.

The Gavin storyline is definitely the one that sticks out to me from recent storylines, a total damp squib and a complete misfire. To cast a well known name, have him tied to Kathy Beale's massive return from the dead, for it to only be that, was just so stupid. He wasn't remotely scary or menacing and never really did anything apart from a threat every few weeks. They sort of tried way too hard (having him conveniently be Sharon's real dad too) but equally just shoved any old shit on screen laugh.gif

I'd also say Nico in Hollyoaks with her whole murderous run. Will's murder, fair enough, that was basically self defence and he was a murderer himself. But to have her whack Carly's head in too, and then murder Patrick and Trevor in cold blood and thinking attemtped murder on Tom was right to get Peri back from him was just ridiculous. It would have been good if after Will they sort of explored the guilt and how that affected her, but they just decided that she killed one person accidentally so why not have her turn into Lindsey Butterfield II...

Steve's depression in Corrie. Simon Gregson is an appalling actor so it was extremely awkward to watch.

Fallon being abducted by aliens in Dynasty.

Coldcutsgate and Snakegate in Eastenders.

Ryan not being Michelle's real son on Coronation Street. An unnecessary storyline that was forgotten rather quickly.

The robbery which went wrong on EastEnders on New Year's Eve this year and the aftermath of it.

Any storylines or characters from last year which has been very bad, what do you think?

BUMP

Serena Bishop from Neighbours, snobby and that storyline with the dodgy photographer.

Posted by: TheSnake Jul 7 2019, 04:16 PM

I don't mind Marlon from Emmerdale and Dev from Coronation Street, however they are quite unrealistic characters, they have such over the top personalities that you would be highly unlikely to encounter anyone like that in real life.

The Habiba/Adam storyline in EastEnders atm is so boring... it's just kind of there.

Pretend Katie in Coronation Street who faked being Lizs dead daughter with an Australian accent

The roof collapse story. Mainly because of who died though. So much deadwood and a decent character died. I know it was the actresses choice but now Kate’s leaving they could’ve easily just left together.

Phil being shot for the second time in EastEnders.

Posted by: Algernon Monqueef Aug 6 2019, 01:49 PM

Max!

Max surviving, Max taking over the square and then being welcomed back, Max's daughters climbing over the wall for no reason, and thrn one of them dying instead of the man the producers fancy. Max somehow sleeping with Stacey on the night of her Christmas play when she has 4 kids and would be too tired to even think of the baked bean that way!! No way was she skipping the play either.

Sharon suddenly becoming a hard boxing gangsta.

Anna Windass for worst soap character

A story I hated was Michelle Keegans exit Tina. Rob being her killer ruined a character who was a great actor who can now never return realistically. There was once a theory re her exit that Phelan was going to be her killer thinking he was killing Katy as revenge against Owen I think I’d have rather we got that or if she had to die just make it some sort of accident like she falls down the stairs or gets hit by a car. The murder aspect of it I wasn’t keen on. But it was also announced well over a year in advance she was leaving then her exit story also leaked in like November with her not dying until June the following year. I think her exit week was the BGT semi week.

Speaking of corries Katy

Why she was axed and then killed Off screen I’ll never know.

She was much better as a character and actress than her sister who’s still on the show!
