Looking forward to this. I think my entry this time is an improvement on the OMD song I sent in the first contest so here's hoping for a decent result!

No worries about the delay! I have very little faith in my entry to do much better than my previous 2 but we'll see

I'll do my best to follow this... I hope my song does reasonably well, I definitely still think it was one of the best ones even if I am totally biased.

Alright ladies, so let's start first with Collide who is an American industrial music duo formed in Los Angeles in 1992, that has incorporated elements of trip hop, synthpop and music from the Middle East into their sound. In this edition they are presented by Jade with their 1994 song 'Collide' and here are the votes:
QUOTE 12 Portishead - Roads 10 Monsoon - Ever So Lonely 08 Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart 07 The Grid - Floatation 06 Olive - Miracle 05 Ozean - Scenic 04 Blondie - X Offender 03 Saâda Bonaire - You Could Be More As You Are 02 Aptit - Så'na Här Gånger 01 Siouxsie And The Banshees - Peek-A-Boo |

Ooh that was quick! I wanted to go for a more obscure name again but have a sense it might get lost in the crowd this time.

Next up are the iconic duo The Eurythmics. Not much to say here as I'm sure we all know and heard about Annie Lenox, but you want to know that they are presented by JualinT. Julian decided to sent their track from 1983 album Touch, song called 'Aqua' and here their votes:
QUOTE 12 Roads 10 You could be more as you are 8 Så’na Här Gånger 7 Floatation 6 Duvet 5 Only love can break your heart 4 Ever so lonely 3 Scenic 2 Peek-a-boo 1 Iceblink Luck Scoreboard: 1 Portishead - Roads 24 2 Monsoon - Ever So Lonely 14 3 The Grid - Floatation 14 4 Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart 13 5 Saâda Bonaire - You Could Be More As You Are 13 6 Aptit - Så'na Här Gånger 10 7 Ozean - Scenic 8 8 Bõa - Duvet 6 9 Olive - Miracle 6 10 Blondie - X Offender 4 11 Siouxsie And The Banshees - Peek-A-Boo 3 12 Cocteau Twins - Iceblink Luck 1 13 Nena - Nur Geträumt 0 14 Total Touch - Touch Me There 0 15 Collide - Violet's Dance 0 16 The Cardigans - Sick & Tired 0 17 All About Eve - Flowers in Our Hair 0 18 Shakespear’s Sister - My 16th Apology 0 19 Heart - Barracuda 0 20 Texas - Tell me The Answer 0 21 Belly - Gepetto 0 22 The Eurythmics - Aqua 0 |

Oh I was fully expecting Portishead to win but two 12s out of the blocks is quite some going... also I kinda assume it may be Jester seeing as he is such a huge fan?

Eurythmics were 11th in my votes, so close. The accompanying album contains my favourite by them 'Here Comes The Rain Again' so I ought to check it out.

Next one up are Scottish rock band Cocteau Twins, presented by dandy*. He went with an uncharacteristically upbeat Cocteau Twins song, "Iceblink Luck" which interestingly the title never appears in the lyric.
QUOTE Hi Addy! Thanks for hosting this edition, it turned out to be yet another high quality set of songs imo. Here is my order and votes, in the end I loved the top ones too much to penalise them for familiarity but certainly Bõa, Ocean and Saâda Bonaire were good discoveries - and Monsoon was a great rediscovery as I'd forgotten that existed. Thanks everyone for the choices 12 Portishead - Roads 10 Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart 08 Monsoon - Ever So Lonely 07 Bõa - Duvet 06 All About Eve - Flowers in Our Hair 05 Blondie - X Offender 04 The Cardigans - Sick & Tired 03 Ozean - Scenic 02 Saâda Bonaire - You Could Be More As You Are 01 Shakespear’s Sister - My 16th Apology __________________________________________ 00 Belly - Gepetto 00 Olive - Miracle 00 The Eurythmics - Aqua 00 The Grid - Floatation 00 Nena - Nur Geträumt 00 Collide - Violet's Dance 00 Heart - Barracuda 00 Texas - Tell me The Answer 00 Siouxsie And The Banshees - Peek-A-Boo 00 Total Touch - Touch Me There 00 Aptit - Så'na Här Gånger Will present the scoreboard every other set. |

Aw Jade's entry was the one that I complained about feeling too short oops! (but I did still really enjoy it while it lasted, just thought it could have used an extra minute or two x)
Oh I was fully expecting Portishead to win but two 12s out of the blocks is quite some going... also I kinda assume it may be Jester seeing as he is such a huge fan? I was guessing it'd be you but maybe that was too obvious! (unless it is actually you and this post is a bluff ) edit: ah no bluff then x |

what was that Eurythmics song! Was beyond bizarre
Cocteau Twins is a band I always wanted to like but never connected... only think I really love is Teardrops with Massive Attack if that counts |

Alright, moving on to next more obscure band. Ozean was a Northern California band inspired by the sonic propulsion and ethereal songwriting and they are presented by Chez Wombat. More about the band and track can be found in the description below by Chez himself , also here the votes:
QUOTE 12; Monsoon - Ever So Lonely 10; Portishead - Roads 08; Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart 07; Aptit - Så'na Här Gånger 06; Saâda Bonaire - You Could Be More As You Are 05; The Grid - Floatation 04; Siouxsie And The Banshees - Peek-A-Boo 03; Olive – Miracle 02; Collide - Violet's Dance 01; All About Eve - Flowers in Our Hair I hope some of you enjoyed Ozean, it's honestly one of my favourite retro discoveries of the year and I really wanted to share it with Buzzjack somehow (but not through BJSC cos I couldn't bear to see that DNQ x). The song was recorded in 1991, but actually never released and the band never signed so the song remained lost on a demo cassette tape until it was 2016 when it resurfaced and re-released, and still to this today finds a small cult following in corners of YouTube and shoegaze subreddits and whatnot. I do wish it was added to streaming, but just enjoy the serene beauty of it <3 Swooning over my own entry aside, great contest here, well done again <3 Scoreboard: 1 Portishead - Roads 46 2 Monsoon - Ever So Lonely 34 3 Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart 31 4 Saâda Bonaire - You Could Be More As You Are 21 5 The Grid - Floatation 19 6 Aptit - Så'na Här Gånger 17 7 Bõa - Duvet 13 8 Ozean - Scenic 11 9 Olive - Miracle 9 10 Blondie - X Offender 9 11 Siouxsie And The Banshees - Peek-A-Boo 7 12 All About Eve - Flowers in Our Hair 7 13 The Cardigans - Sick & Tired 4 14 Collide - Violet's Dance 2 15 Cocteau Twins - Iceblink Luck 1 16 Shakespear’s Sister - My 16th Apology 1 17 Nena - Nur Geträumt 0 18 Total Touch - Touch Me There 0 19 Heart - Barracuda 0 20 Texas - Tell me The Answer 0 21 Belly - Gepetto 0 22 The Eurythmics - Aqua 0 |
