Germany

Michael Schulte - You Let Me Walk Alone

Posted by: AdamAloud 29th October 2017, 08:05 AM

After 3 disastrous years, Germany are ready to shoot back up that leaderboard!

QUOTE
Producers want to give international viewers a say. But instead of asking for their opinion only during the show, like in 2017, this time they will include them in the search right from the start.

A so-called Europe Panel will consist of 100 people representing the musical taste of Europe as a whole. It will be responsible for selecting the five candidates for the German final. They will evaluate every application and will judge all of the artists wishing to represent Germany. But that’s not all: the Europe Panel will also take part in the process of finding the potential Eurovision songs. And during the live show they will also have a say in the outcome.

The German national final will get even more of a European vibe. For many years, various countries have liked to hear the opinions of an international jury while choosing their acts. This has been proven to be a successful way of selecting. So Germany will follow the lead: during the national final, an international jury consisting of 20-25 members will also have their say. All of them have already been members of their country’s national jury at Eurovision in the past, so they know what to do.

I just hope that with this rebrand, they make it simpler. The German NF is always so unnecessarily complicated with 2 songs per act or voting off an artist after a covers round. Just get 5 or so acts with a song each.

The German equivalent of The Sun has unoficially confirmed the six artists through to the German NF. Write up and preview of the stuff they've done before http://wiwibloggs.com/2017/12/27/germany-six-finalists-unser-lied-fur-lissabon/205683/.

Ivy Quainoo
Michael Schulte
Natia Todua
Rick Jurthe
Steal a Taxi
Voxxclub

Ivy and Michael have a couple BJSC entries to their name and are both from the first series of The Voice of Germany so they're likely the biggest names in the selection so keep an eye on them!

Posted by: Liаm 27th December 2017, 03:36 PM

Ooh Ivy is fab so I'm rooting for her!

Posted by: JosephCarey 27th December 2017, 09:23 PM

Michael Schulte is very good, I think he could bring a fantastic song to the table! A couple of my faves of his:

Posted by: Monzo 29th December 2017, 08:34 AM

I don't need another Voice winner there, Jamie-Lee was worse enough. Voxxclub could be funny.

Joseph liking a basic white boy with shite hair, terrible songs and a penchant for a guitar? Well knock me down with a feather. I never would have guessed that! ohmy.gif

The acts have now been confirmed and the list above is accurate except for Steal a Taxi not being involved, instead we have someone called Xavier Darcy (and he also ticks the guitar and awful hair boxes).

Posted by: ionderella 29th December 2017, 07:30 PM

how will joseph know who to back now

Posted by: JosephCarey 29th December 2017, 09:29 PM

A quick google tells me I'll definitely still be backing Michael Schulte xx

Song titles have been revealed

Ivy Quainoo - House On Fire
Michael Schulte - You Let Me Walk Alone
Natia Todua - My Own Way
Ryk - You & I
voXXclub - I mog Di so
Xavier Darcy - Jonah

Ivy Quainoo's song is written by the same guy who's done Mariette's song for Melodifestivalen this year. All the songs will be available on 20th February.

The voting will be split equally three ways between an international jury (including Margaret Berger and Tinkara Kovac), a Europe panel jury who helped select the entries and the televote.

Posted by: LexC 13th February 2018, 01:57 PM

Well given the guy who's written Mariette's song has (I think) eight UK number one singles under his belt I've got high expectations for Ivy Quainoo's song.

Also if it's two thirds some kind of jury vote then I think that's Voxxclub sunk unless their song is a total banger.

Posted by: Martyn 13th February 2018, 10:55 PM

I hope they do an English dub again who makes the host sound like they hate the process.

Posted by: LexC 19th February 2018, 05:47 PM

The songs have leaked and are available https://yadi.sk/d/XoQnjEJt3SaJMu!

Posted by: Umi 19th February 2018, 05:54 PM

'House on Fire' is boring as shit. Will listen to the others later but instantly calling doom on this.

Posted by: LexC 19th February 2018, 06:04 PM

Prepared to be dragged for it but I actually really love voXXclub's entry. It's the late 90s German oompah band themed novelty song you never knew you were missing!

Posted by: AdamAloud 19th February 2018, 06:10 PM

On the contrary Lex, voXXclub is the only memorable one of the lot. Oh Germany.

Posted by: Liаm 19th February 2018, 06:12 PM

House On Fire is so disappointing, from her and the writing behind it I thought it would be great but it's very Melfest 7th placer filler from random forgotten Idol alumni :/

Posted by: Ryan. 19th February 2018, 06:16 PM

Listening through them now, Michael is rightly getting the escforum.net fan hype - could be Eurovision top 10 at minimum. heart.gif Ivy was decent but nothing special.

Posted by: Ryan. 19th February 2018, 06:32 PM

Michael is officially the best, if he's good live then should do very well not just on Thursday but in Lisbon should he get there. I hope he does!

Posted by: AdamAloud 19th February 2018, 06:44 PM

It's a very competent song but I don't think it's right for Eurovision, especially for a Big 5 country. I suppose staging will be the key.

Posted by: Ryan. 19th February 2018, 06:47 PM

I think if Standing Still could go top 10, then this is a better song in a similar style so wouldn't rule that out for Michael!

None of the others strike me as getting on the left hand side of the leaderboard.

Posted by: Cameron 20th February 2018, 10:31 PM

Michael's song is really nice, loving his voice as well.

Voting format
The voting will be split three ways, 33% international jury, 33% German jury and 33% televoting.

The favourites to win
It seems a done deal for Michael Schulte to take the German ticket to Lisbon, of course anything can happen on the night (hi Asanda) so don't take anything for granted!

Posted by: AdamAloud 22nd February 2018, 08:48 PM

Why do Germany have to be awkward in their national finals? Rather than announce each jury's points in full separately, their doing 6th place on German jury, international jury, televote and then 5th place and so on.

Posted by: AdamAloud 22nd February 2018, 08:54 PM

Michael Schulte is the winner!

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 22nd February 2018, 08:56 PM

YASSSSSSSSSSSSS

Posted by: Cameron 22nd February 2018, 10:32 PM

Yay, obvs it will struggle to reach the top 15 but should still do better than last year

Posted by: Midge 22nd February 2018, 10:57 PM

This is nice enough, no idea how it'll fare to be honest! Better than last year and the UK I'd imagine.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 22nd February 2018, 11:24 PM

That track is the dictionary definition of mediocre, or mittelmäßig to be more accurate.

House On Fire is such a missed opportunity. It just goes nowhere. My Own Way is my favourite of the tracks, probably You & I second. Will be interesting to watch from Berlin this year

Posted by: Liаm 22nd February 2018, 11:37 PM

f***ing stunning song, my 2nd fave so far behind Lie To Me. Probably abkut a top 15 placing I'd have thought, but ofc we don't know the majority of entries.

Posted by: Martyn 23rd February 2018, 03:25 PM

Completely forgot to watch this. No hype.

If anyone's remotely interested, Michael's releasing a compilation album on 4th May to support You Let Me Walk Alone, featuring many songs from his three albums:

1 You Let Me Walk Alone
2 Rock and Scissors
3 End of My Days
4 Thoughts
5 The Deep
6 Rusted Blood
7 The Maze
8 Dear Doubt
9 Flicker
10 You Said You'd Grow Old with Me
11 Falling Apart
12 Silence
13 Take It All Away
14 Take Me as I Am
15 Mountain Spring
16 Heard You Crying
17 You Let Me Walk Alone (Acoustic)
18 You Said You'd Grow Old with Me (Acoustic)
19 You'll Be Okay (Acoustic)
20 Holding Back the Fire (Acoustic)

Nothing new for me considering I've heard all three albums but if you like You Let Me Walk Alone, it's definitely worth a listen when it's out!

#JudgingFromTheVideoWithoutSound

He looks a bit like Ed Sheeran which is enough for me to dislike him.

2/10.

Omg someone tweeted "we were three kids and eleven moms" and I can't unhear that lyric now laugh.gif

Michael has confirmed that he's becoming a father himself soon, adding a whole new layer to this track. What lovely news!

Posted by: Midge 29th March 2018, 01:58 PM

I thought it was you representing Germany this year Joseph? He's actually called Michael? Is he your clone/twin? What?

He looks like me circa a few years ago tbh

(so I sent myself to BJSC in 2013 x)

Posted by: Jonjo 9th May 2018, 07:16 PM

I actually love this.

Probs the best ballad in the contest for me. Something quite Tom Dice meets Ed Sheeran about it.
