BJSC 106 update
YTD by points - Quintessa's top 10 hit with their anniversary entry sees them pull ahead at the #1 spot in the year to date, expanding their lead from just 6 points to a more comfortable 39. Aeroche hold onto second place. South Danaelanda didn't do as well as some predicted in BJSC 106 but still continue their upward momentum climbing 5-3, and being the highest of 8 countries passing the 1,000 points mark this month. They leapfrog Cor Lupus who are non-movers at #4, while a third top 10 hit of the year for Niceland pushes them back up 7-5. - A top 3 smash for Unovia sees them make the YTD top 10 for the first time in 2018, up 12-6. Séyetana climb back up a place to 7th, while another top 10 hit for St. Burbia (also their third of the year) pushes them up 10-8, only missing returning to their #7 high from the first update due to a tiebreak (Séyetana having more votes in the year so far). Jadakissnia, another country getting their third top 10 of the year, return to the YTD top 10, edging up 11-9. Trifoski returned to the final after missing out last contest but nonetheless slip back another place to 10th.  hope I can keep this up for the rest of the year and not stall at 11 like last year. It's also really cool to have three songs in the top 50 and to climb in the voting and 18s lists.

BJSC 107 update
YTD by points - Aeroche have outdone themselves from the last two years and actually made it to #1 in a YTD update before the very last one of the year! They're still yet to achieve their annual contest win but are well on the way to a sixth straight EOY victory, as a top 10 result in BJSC 107 sees them climb a place to #1 with a nice lead of 139 points over second place (they've only come higher than 9th in one contest this year but as ever consistency pays off). Unovia weren't even top 10 in the YTD two months ago but a second bronze medal on the trot makes them Aeroche's nearest rivals, pushing them up 6-2 on the YTD, just five points ahead of Cor Lupus who are up one place to 3rd. South Danaelanda drop a place to 4th, while Quintessa manage to remain in the top 5, falling 1-5 after their unfortunate DNQ this month. - Jadakissnia continue to climb, up another 3 places to 6th, while St. Burbia rise a place to 7th and former leaders Trifoski are back up two to 8th. FARC are richly rewarded for a 2nd place finish in BJSC 107 as they climb 16-9 to return to their high point in the rankings so far this year, and they're the highest of 9 countries passing 1,000 points in the year to date. Another is FSR Rontvia, who return to the top 10, up 2 places to #10. They squeeze out Séyetana by just one point as they fall 7-11 despite a qualification this month, blame the closeness! With the final results so bunched up at the top it makes sense that it looks rather different under this system - and it's Unovia who come out on top here, actually with a fairly decent lead. Worth noting though that under this system 'Vulcano' actually didn't win, so they're now at 1 win under both systems. This is the second time a song that came 3rd in the real results won under the 12 point system, following 'Curious' earlier this year. Even more interestingly though, the real winner from Summericia ends up as low as seventh here - that's by far the biggest difference ever for a winner (only 'Safe With You' was previously outside the top 3 on the 'adjusted' results, and that was only 4th) and actually makes Summericia joint with two other nations for having the biggest improvement in this contest thanks to the voting system. Small points really do add up! FARC are 2nd under both systems, but New Lexico, Deandria and Altyr do better here while Espen are also a bit lower, and we get Ojnoj in the top 10 instead of Fljótavík. Plus look at Jadaphonia being together again!! Think that's the second time that has happened under this system while it's still never happened in an actual contest. x Also seriously what happened to Aelandor?? |

I guess that might also partly explain why Summericia came from 9th in the semi to win the final - we are allowed to vote for five more songs in the final than in the semi and a lot of people were evidently mealworming them.
In my prospective Semi 2 votes I'd have given them 2 points (9th favourite) but this became a chunkier 6 points in the final, where it was my 10th favourite. Also YAY at returning to the top 10! This post has been edited by gooddelta: Aug 27 2018, 06:05 PM |
