On the horizon only gets stick because Mel C doesn't like it. It peaked higher on radio than her big comeback single Herw it comes again. It was incredibly radio friendly and a great single choice. Here it comes again and her very unlikable personality at that time killed her career. Geri killed her own career, fancy not bothering with a 4th single because the previous one only peak at #7 🙄 She could and should have pushed a 4th single and done a small tour, got the album over 200k sales. She ran away and when she came back it was too long gone. Circles round the moon would have been a great 4th single, she could have sang it live here and there to build up to a tour Whilst OTH is a radio friendly song, it doesnt mean it was a good single for someone like Mel C. It clearly didnt catch the public's attention at all. But yes, HICA and her attitude at the time did also impact on her ability to perform well. The whole campaign was a bit shit to be honest. Geri - I don't know what to say cos she was the queen of promotion. I guess the public just didnt care in the end. I find her second album really bland, with no interesting songs apart from the title track and Feels Like Sex but even those are a bit meh. She should have not released Calling. That song, sang by someone else could have been a hit, but Geri simply lacks the talent to deliver with that track.... So what are we saying? Lack of good music in their second albums and bad promo tactics is what killed them? If you look at Mel C's first and last single from Northern Star, that could also show that the public wasnt really there for them unless they released good music. If That Were Me was an attrocious choice and clearly didnt connect. And Going Down was bad as f*** even if it got LOADS of attention... |

I just think the issue for both Geri and Mel C is that what the public wanted from them and what they themselves wanted were different - both probably wanted to be seen as slightly more "serious" while in Geri's case people wanted high-octane camp pop music and seeing the singles that charted well for Mel C in the Northern Star era, people wanted pure pop music. Neither of them were that willing to ride those trains and missed their opportunity to properly establish themselves as solo artists before starting to branch out.
If the invisioned Disco Sister album had come out in the place of Scream that would've been great. Mel C should've probably released another album with a nice mix of electronic/R&B-infused pop instead of that MOR mess that was Reason. |

Interesting because she went POP on Reason and ever since then that didnt go well at all. I think the problem is bad music. Going Down was bad, cringe.
I wonder what it would have been like had she released Suddenly Monday or Gaga as a single instead. Those songs are pop/rock and much better and radio friendly than Going Down by a clear mile. It sounds quite surprising to me that she went so pop with Reason, and worked with lesser known/worse producers in that album. She had such a great crew for Northern Star that really elevated her talents. |

I think the biggest issue for reason is that it's very MOR - it's neither here nor there, it just sort of exists. A bit like Emma's first album where the end result isn't horrible, but just kind of blah.

Finished Melanie C's singles section! http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=5795674 So many singles not charting Wasn't really sure what to include on her page and what to exclude. I haven't included: Let's Love, First Day of My Life, The Moment You Believe, Understand, Rock Me, Let There Be Love or Let's Groove, given that this is a UK charts topic, and all of these singles aren't considered as being UK releases (although I'd say Rock Me is a bit of a grey area considering it was actually released to UK download stores~). I've included: I Don't Know How to Love Him & Numb (I've noted them as being promotional singles) & Cosmic Shower (noting it as being a charity single). I've also included Cool as You, as well as all of the Version of Me singles. None of these songs charted in the UK official singles chart. The thing is, I'm wondering whether I should just remove these "did not chart" moments. Maybe this page should only be focusing on what actually charted? You should cut them off and add on another topic with the UK sub charts. |

^ I'll get around to that soon, along with England United / Children's Promise songs
Greatest Hits climbed two places to #190 this week, its 55th week in the Top 200 (17th consecutively since it reentered in November 2018). The last time the Spice Girls spent as long as 17 unbroken weeks in the UK albums chart was with Spiceworld, during the final 17 weeks of its first entry - from November 1998 to March 1999! |

Was Geri actually on the Grenfell song, I feel like it is one of those things where she said she was but it never actually happened.

She's listed as one of the artists on the official website for the single! Her contribution is undetectable though, given that it's blended in with the numerous other vocalists during the chorus (which could also be said for many of the other artists listed http://artistsforgrenfell.com/about-us/ )

Spice Up Your Life on 989,000 as of last Friday, thanks to Sammy for the info
Last known figure was 973,000 in November 2018. That’s 16,000 sales in 15 weeks! Should mean that it’s a millionaire within 3 months! Given that it’s only their 5th highest song on Spotify, perhaps Say You’ll Be There, 2 Become 1 and Stop are increasing in sales at a faster rate, if we assume that they’re getting more streams in the UK as well as worldwide. (Obviously Wannabe will be achieving much stronger sales). It's been interesting to see Spice Up Your Life's sales increases in recent years: 910,000 - 19th March 2017 932,000 - 19th October 2017 966,000 - 1st November 2018 973,000 - 16th November 2018 989,000 - 1st March 2019 |

Come on Spice up your life, get that million seller!
The solos in this thread depress me slightly! Such a shame seeing the constant decline in success, it was OK when they were at least achieving Gold albums and top 10's but now they can't even chart their singles and the albums can't even sell 10k... |

I really hope Stop goes platinum this year, it feels like such an important song in their discography now and it deserves platinum status!

Ah yeah, Mama is always a good one at this time of the year. It might get a bit of a bump.
Hopefully the GH stays afloat the Top200 for a while longer eh. |

International women's day boosted their streams and they have had a little boost on iTunes and Amazon thanks to Emma today.
Think it should be safe for another week top 200. |

I really hope so Still another 11 chart weeks to go until the tour begins, would be a shame if it dips out of the chart before it inevitably gets a big boost.
