BuzzJack Music Forum _ Television _ Worst Soap Comeback

Which would you say has been the worst comeback of a character to a soap that you've seen and why?

I would say Kelly Windsor in Emmerdale back in 2011 with the bizarre storyline with Jimmy.

Bet Lynch's disastrous return to Corrie in 2002 springs to mind.

I think it was back in the early 00s if I'm right but Bet Lynch returning to Corrie for a full comeback then Julie Goodyear only filmed for a couple of weeks. There seemed to be quite a big story about this wasn't there?

Am I right?

I'd say the 2003 was possibly even worse! I've only watched Bet Lynch episodes on YouTube as I was too young/wasn't born to have watched her at the time, but even I can tell that the magic of the character was lost when she returned in 2002/3. I could only see her as Julie Goodyear rather than her character.

Looking at Digital Spy's http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/eastenders/feature/a822755/12-of-the-worst-comebacks-in-soap-history/ of worst soap returns, I agree with Clare Devine, Clare Bates and Kelly Windsor, with Holly Cunningham and Ben Mitchell just being bad recasts.

I actually really liked Tracy's return to Corrie in 2010 and I don't get the fuss over "it's the most exciting arrival in 2000 years" - that's just the sort of dramatic, over-the-top thing that she'd say.

That's right. It was meant to be a full comeback but Julie couldn't handle how filming had changed - there was more episodes which meant more to film and less rehearsal time. Plus she didn't get on with some cast members. I don't know why she returned in 2003 but I think that was always meant to be a one-off for a special week of episodes set in Blackpool.

#HurricaneSharon

They tried to make out like it was gonna be some huge comeback storyline but it was so lame :')

Clare Devine's in Hollyoaks before her death was absolutely ridiculous, as bad as her Eastenders one! With how prominent Grace became after, it felt like they learned from that mistake and tried to make Grace into what Clare's return should have been.

Kathy Beale

Dirty Den Watts after what happened off-screen.

Johnny Carter. Absolutely pointless with zero storylines.

Johnny Carter has been back a year and done nothing.

Hurricane Sharon was lame because they hadn't planned anything for her. Ditto Kathy.

I can't think of any Neighbours return I haven't liked. They seem to be the best show for bringing characters back.

Johnny Carter + Kathy Beale.

BUMP

Any other soap comebacks from last year that you have thought should not have happened?

Probably Jim McDonald's many returns, why?
