QUOTE Capitol confirmed the single choice to Billboard at last night's (Sept. 13) performance by Perry's labelmate Lady Antebellum at New York City's Irving Plaza. Shocked she's chosen this, but I adore it, so I'm delighted |

6th single! I don't really care if she's going to 'ruin her streak'. I LOVE THIS!

Woah So shocked but insanely happy, this is my 3rd favourite on the album behind Firework and E.T.

Worst song on the album, Peacock aside. |

QUOTE Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Such is the thinking, as voiced by EMI Music/Capitol Records EVP/marketing and promotion Greg Thompson, behind the label's decision to release a sixth pop radio single from Katy Perry's album, "Teenage Dream." The set's "The One That Got Away" goes for airplay next month. The label stressed that it is not specifically releasing "One" with the hopes of rewriting Hot 100 history. Rather, the decision factors in Perry's fondness for the song, its ear-catching hook and her obvious track record of success at pop radio. "If it goes to No. 1, that would be great," said Thompson. "If not, we still have a Katy song on the radio in fourth quarter," potentially fueling further sales for "Dream" in the busiest of shopping seasons. Even if "One" is not a Hot 100 No. 1, Perry still offers her fans the gift of a Yuletide-timed release. If it does reach the apex, Perry herself opens the gift of unprecedented Hot 100 history. Adding to the song's chart-topping potential: a "touch-up," i.e., a Dr. Luke-produced radio edit of the album version, according to Thompson, and a video. The label is currently "reading treatments" for the proposed clip. (Perry penned the song with Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald) and Max Martin). Perry's "California Dreams Tour," which kicked off in February, continues with U.S., South American and European dates through Dec. 1. Of the 40 concerts reported to Billboard Boxscore, the tour has grossed $22 million and played to 408,000 fans. It was a last minute decision apparently. |

I really, really love the song (and was quite disappointed that I didn't see it performed live on her tour), and I think it's great that she's releasing it - firstly it shows off a different side to the album of the previous tracks and secondly it will shift albums Hopefully 'Teenage Dream' passes 1m in the UK soon. I'm really looking forward to the video too; I expect something like the 'Teenage Dream' video, but surely the budget will be rather big to do something unique, seeing as how much money the record and its singles will've earned thus far.

Great choice, she seems to have chosen all of my favourites to release, first Last Friday Night and now this!
Surprised she's still milking it for singles though, at least without a deluxe! |

So her US chart run will be: 1 -> 1 -> 1 -> 1 -> 1 -> 68
Teenage Dream doesn't need a 6th single :/ |

Great choice for a single, but they should've left the era alone. This WILL ruin her record. I'm looking forward to that radio edit, though. Any idea when it's released?

I doubt this will be #1, but there is clearly a great deal of radio support and general love for her so I can see it being a bit hit all the same, I would imagine it'll easyily go top 5. If they time things right with a big performance and throw out another alternate version like they did with Last Friday Night it probably would stand a chance at #1.

I think an X Factor performance could save this song. Remember what happened after 'Firework' was performed on X Factor? If she releases the video and goes on X Factor the same week, it could have a good chance of top 5, even top 3!

I can't think of any other campaign where they got ALL of the single choices so right.

6 singles from an album is almost unheard of, but i guess they have nothing to lose, even if the isngle doesnt do well im sure it will push a few album sales her way, with the era been so successful though i still think at worst the one that got away will still go top 40.

YES!! My favourite song left on the album that isn't a single, perfect choice. Hope it can be a success for her but I think Top 20 is the best she can expect in the UK and maybe Top 10 in the US ... which still isn't a bad thing by any means.

Great song from an amazing album, but they really need to stop now!!!!!!!
Just wait and release a new record in the spring woman. That said, I guess the plus side of this will be a possible X Factor performance both sides of the Atlantic? I would love the album to pass a million here, considering it's on about 800k now. |

GAHHHHH! Amazing choice! I really, really hope this "shocks" and manages to become a massive top 3 for her in the US. Top 10 would be appreciated for the UK. Ahhh. Please get an XF slot and perform this!

I can't think of any other campaign where they got ALL of the single choices so right. I know. This era really has been perfect in every way with single releases. I don't see this being #1 just as it is the 6th single, unless it just gets heavy promo and a beyond stellar music video. I see this going top ten, top twenty at the least. |

Depends how successful and how much of an impact US XF will be. I can see her getting a slot on that, easily. Especially after all she's done for the UK version last year. Simon loves her and will want to help her.

The way Teenage Dream is going Katy won't have to release a greatest hits in the future
I'm happy with the choice but I wanted her to stop this era after "Last Friday Night" It's always great to end on a high. I hope this achieves similar success though. Fingers crossed. |
