England's Alex Hales has been suspended following an "off-field incident", a spokesman for the batsman has said.

Hales missed Nottinghamshire's One-Day Cup games last week for what the county described as "personal reasons".

The incident happened last year, and the player's spokesman added: "While the issue is not cricket related, he accepted it was right he was suspended."

Samit Patel hit a brilliant unbeaten 136 off 124 balls as Nottinghamshire beat Northamptonshire by one wicket to secure a home One-Day Cup semi-final.

Patel hit the first three balls of the final over for a six and two fours to see them to 328-9 at Wantage Road.

Team-mate Alex Hales earlier hit 36, to go with three catches, in his first game since being axed from England's World Cup plans.

England's first one-day international against Pakistan was abandoned because of persistent rain on a frustrating day at The Oval.

The weather first saw the game shortened to 47 overs a side, another delay brought a further cut to 41, with the heaviest shower then leaving the outfield too wet for any further play.

Pakistan reached 80-2 in the 19 overs that were possible.

Australian cricketers' behaviour has improved after attempts to clean up the game following the ball-tampering scandal, says Cricket Australia.

The men's national team had no conduct citings during the 2018-19 season, the first clean slate in seven years, and charges at all levels dropped 74%.

Cricketers Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were all banned for ball-tampering last season.

CA chairman Earl Eddings said the improvement shows "meaningful change".

"Everyone in Australian cricket is well aware that it's not just winning that counts, but how we play the game, and the players have certainly embraced that spirit," he added.

"While there is always room for improvement, these are very good signs... and will have a positive and lasting impact on Australian cricket at all levels."

India's GS Lakshmi has become the first female to be appointed to the ICC international panel of match referees.

The 51-year-old, who first officiated as a match referee in women's domestic cricket in 2008-09, can referee internationals with immediate effect.

"To be selected is a huge honour as it opens up new avenues," said Lakshmi.

Jonny Bairstow smashs a sensational century as England coasted a chase of 359 to beat Pakistan by six wickets in the third one-day international in Bristol.

Bairstow clubbed 128 from 93 balls, supported by 76 from Jason Roy, Joe Root's 43 and an unbeaten 46 by Moeen Ali.

It meant England completed their second-highest run-chase in ODIs, and best at home, with more than five overs to spare.

The men's player draft for The Hundred, the England and Wales Cricket Board's new competition which begins in 2020, will take place on 20 October.

Cricket will become the first major British sport to hold such a draft.

Eight new city-based sides, with men's and women's teams, will be formed with squads chosen from England stars, as well as overseas and domestic players.

The competition will take place over a five-week period from July 2020, with some matches televised live on the BBC.

England captain Eoin Morgan has been suspended for the next one-day international and fined 40% of his match fee for a slow over-rate during the six-wicket win against Pakistan on Tuesday.

It is Morgan's second such offence within 12 months after England were guilty of a slow-over rate against the West Indies in February.

Morgan will miss Friday's fourth ODI against Pakistan at Trent Bridge.

England survived a scare to win the fourth one-day international against Pakistan by three wickets and wrap up the series with a game to spare.

Jason Roy's century had the home side coasting their chase of 341, only for his dismissal to spark a collapse of four wickets for 15 runs.

But Ben Stokes made 71 not out and Tom Curran, who should have been run out on seven, 31 to get the hosts over the line with three balls to spare.

On Saturday, it is the One-Day Cup Final between Hampshire and Somerset which is taking place at Lord's.

Who do you think will win?

Hampshire beat in the knockout stages, Lancashire to progress to the final whilst Somerset beat Worcestershire in the play-offs and Nottinghamshire to progress to the final.

Hampshire are the reigning champions.

Somerset last won it in 1979 when it was the John Player League.

England bowled Ireland out for 38 to win the four-day Test by 143 runs and avoid being on the end of a stunning upset.

Ireland, playing their third Test, were chasing 182 for a famous win, only to be demolished by Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad in perfect conditions for seam bowling.

In the damp and gloom and with the floodlights on at Lord's, Woakes swung the ball for 6-17 and Broad nipped it around for 4-19.

At one stage, three wickets fell for no runs and the last nine for 18 as Ireland registered the seventh lowest total in Test history and the lowest at Lord's.

Woakes and Broad bowled unchanged through an innings that took only 94 deliveries, the joint-second shortest in Test history and shortest for 95 years.

That was a rather bizarre Test match. To be skittled out for 85 in the first innings and still win by over 100 takes some doing laugh.gif
