Here it is the first chart of the new era, no spoilers please.

Posted by: Joe. 10th July 2015, 02:05 PM

Fingers crossed they have all the data! Otherwise this will be therefore known as black Friday.

Posted by: 'Dan 10th July 2015, 02:07 PM

Who made the new banner then? Whoever it is they've done an amazing job biggrin.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 10th July 2015, 02:08 PM

Goes without saying this'll be the most interesting listen in Years & Years but I said it anyway.

Hoping Shine can do it & there's no foul play elsewhere.

Posted by: Zárate 10th July 2015, 02:09 PM

Hi all! I could be with you until 5pm, as then I'm going home. biggrin.gif Unfortunately I'm at work so won't be able to listen to the actual chart.

Hopefully they have all the data indeed.

We'll have to see how this first one runs, to prove the day move was Worth It wink.gif

I'm here for this so this should be interesting! Could be a real mess but hoping Zowie's number 1, even if it will likely go down as the most fluke of a number 1 of all time

It feels so bizarre tuning into the chart on a Friday instead, I suspect things will be much quieter around here today. The banner looks super cool, by the way!

Retro faves~

2014
1- IT’S MY BIRTHDAY- Will.i.am Featuring Cody Wise (74,034)
2- PROBLEM- Ariana Grande Ft Iggy Azalea (62,880)
5- BUDAPEST- George Ezra (49,525)
7- SING- Ed Sheeran (39,142) heart.gif
8- GRECKO (OVERDRIVE)- Oliver Heldens X Becky Hill (37,900) heart.gif
9- CHANDELIER- Sia (31,231)

I don't care if will.i.am is a questionable lyricist in this case, 'It's My Birthday' is an absolute JAM. Probably helped that it was released a few weeks shy of my actual birthday. kink.gif

2010
3- AIRPLANES- B.o.B Ft Hayley Williams (71,372)
4- LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE- Eminem Ft Rihanna (58,378)
7- MY FIRST KISS- 3OH3! Ft Ke$ha (38,819)
8- ALEJANDRO- Lady Gaga (37,605)
9- ALL THE LOVERS- Kylie Minogue (37,283)

Oh I had completely erased 'My First Kiss' from my mind, was quite catchy and the vid was cool.

2005
1- GHETTO GOSPEL- 2Pac Ft Elton John (39,627)
2- WE BELONG TOGETHER- Mariah Carey (39,235)
4- CRAZY CHICK- Charlotte Church (24,100)*
5- SINCE U BEEN GONE- Kelly Clarkson (19,307) heart.gif
6- AXEL F- Crazy Frog (17,200)*
7- ROC YA BODY (MIC CHECK 1.2)- MVP (14,200)*
8- DIAMONDS FROM SIERRA LEONE- Kanye West (13,608)
9- SHOT YOU DOWN- Audio Bully’s Ft Nancy Sinatra (13,100)* heart.gif
10- SO GOOD- Rachel Stevens (11,775)

Really strong top 10 here! Sensational number one for starters. 'Since U Been Gone' is perhaps my favourite Kelly Clarkson song, battling it out there only with 'Breakaway'. 'So Good' was a pretty decent Rachel song, albeit it hasn't really aged all THAT well.

2000
1- BREATHLESS- The Corrs (80,869)
2- THE REAL SLIM SHADY- Eminem (71,000)
4- SUNDAY MORNING CALL- Oasis (53,000)
6- WOMAN TROUBLE- Artful Dodger Ft Robbie Craig & Craig David (46,000)* *.*
7- WILL I EVER?- Alice Deejay (44,000)*
8- GOTTA TELL YOU- Samantha Mumba (41,000)*
9- SANDSTORM- Darude (34,000)*

'Breathless' is so good, that and 'Summer Sunshine' were really fab singles from The Corrs. 'Woman Trouble' is an absolute BOP but I suspect a lot of people wouldn't recognise it from the title alone. 'Will I Ever?' wasn't the most bold of singles but it's pleasant enough.

1995
1- BOOM BOOM BOOM- Outhere Brothers (74,000)
2- ALRIGHT/ TIME- Supergrass (56,000)
5- I’M A BELIEVER- EMF with Reeves & Mortimer (39.000)*
6- WHOOMPH! (THERE IT IS)- Clock (35,000)*
7- IN THE SUMMERTIME- Shaggy Ft Reyvon (31,000)*
9- A GIRL LIKE YOU- Edwyn Collins (27,000)*

Oh I was not aware that the Supergrass single was a double A-side! Can't say I've heard of 'Time' but 'Alright' is a classic. wub.gif

That's a really impressive banner!

I've barely listened over the last few months but this is a better timeslot for me so I might try to tune in regularly again. Hoping for (and expecting) David Zowie #1, and for Fifth Harmony to hold top 3.

1 year since Jess Glynne's solo debut biggrin.gif And 1 year since 74k at #1 was really low.

Good afternoon to you all! It's a FRIDAY ohmy.gif biggrin.gif

So I see some of us are already a bit excited, that's good. I'm pretty excited too and curious what and how will they present the chart show.

Posted by: ¡brë! 10th July 2015, 02:29 PM

Thank you to er... whoever designed our lovely new banner! (Someone called Jon apparently magic.gif)

I am here for this show but to be honest I'm not sure how much I can be bothered with it when it's clashing with the Wimbledon semi-finals... especially as the chart is possibly entirely farcical due to missing data. I suppose I shouldn't be missing the first ever Friday chart show but the temptation is there drama.gif

The top 40 recap and album chart top 5 + new entries will be here at an unspecified time today ~

I remember that week in 2005 so well. ohmy.gif I was so elated Mariah had been kept off by 300 copies. I was also so pleased for Kelly, had been willing that to do well for weeks and it surpassed my expectations, I had no idea it'd go on to become the monster hit it was. My song of the year!

I'm really excited about today with genuinely no idea who'll be #1, I don't particularly care if Years & Years don't get it though as it's a bit of a mediocre effort from them.

Posted by: ¡brë! 10th July 2015, 02:34 PM

Incidentally it looks like 'Are You With Me' has indeed become the shortest lasting #1 of all time (as well as being one of the shortest ever songs to reach #1), spending just 5 days at the top magic.gif

Zowie for #1 pls but I don't know if we can even trust who's announced as #1 today.

Lost Frequencies making history only a song as impactful as Are You With Me could

Posted by: Joe. 10th July 2015, 02:43 PM

Very interesting week. But frustrating if we don't know if all data is collected, we'll just have to trust that it is, and hope the number isn't changed...Awkward.

I'd love 'Shine' to be number 1 as I feel like it's a brilliant song, probably the best from Years & Years, but even if it is #2 that's still a good outcome and the song looks like it's done a really good job in getting lots of additional sales for the album.

Posted by: pippa 10th July 2015, 02:49 PM

It feels strange the chart is coming out today, but as time passes it will feel like it was always that way. I do hope all the data is collected and we don't have a default number 1 in the singles. It would be wonderful if Ed Sheeran is the number 1 album to start the new era in the charts off as it is a wonderful album.

Posted by: ThePensmith 10th July 2015, 02:52 PM

Ah, classic retro #1's from this time 5 and 15 years ago. I think I'm still probably the only living person left - in what remains of JLS' fanbase or otherwise - who loves 'The Club is Alive'. It was bloody bonkers and sampled Julie Andrews. And JB was wearing an awesome jacket in the video. Nothing to not love there for me so nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh to you, 'ugggh, it only got number 1 'cause of their fanbase' purists of Buzzjack, then and now.

And the Corrs wub.gif Admittedly 'Breathless' was essentially a Shania Twain record but with them singing instead but that's by no means a bad thing. Andrea's little 'go on, go on' yelp is well. It's something very special, put it that way.

And 10 years since 'So Good'? Lordy I feel old. Poor, neglected in favour of Akon and Crazy Frog singles Rachel. And the gloves wub.gif

Anyhoo. Years and Years for #1 later of course (they favourited yours truly on Twitter earlier. They are my new favourites now. It's a coccoon o'favouriting. dance.gif )

Posted by: Zárate 10th July 2015, 02:52 PM

If the data is missing they will try to make it up with a model. BUT if they have most of Spotify data missed except, say, Monday, that model can be very biased.

It does seem fitting of such a title for that reason! laugh.gif I'd rather see Lost Frequencies hold on for a second week though, but won't complain about having more frequent turnover at the top every once in a while.

'It's My Birthday' celebrating its 1st birthday as a #1 smash! birthday.gif

Surely they won't "make up" the data based on trends. That would be more dodgy than just omitting it completely.

Posted by: Heathyheath_ 10th July 2015, 02:54 PM

I've been excited for this all day because I'm in work and we listen to radio one only for the person who controls the televisions to change them all to BBC one for the Wimbledon semi finals, cruel because I can't wait to find out how the format goes. I'm not overly bothered who reaches number one today because I like both songs but I hope whoever wins wins fairly. It'd be a shame for somebody to win it then lose it days later.

I think they'd admitted to doing it before though? Which messed things up because they used the model from data on days before certain songs had large boosts.

this is what they usually do when data is missing I think (see the Music Week report Ethan linked to earlier in the week when Saturday iTunes sales were missing the day Conchita won eurovision)

Biography
Maroon 5 (formerly known as Kara's Flowers) is an American pop rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1994 as Kara's Flowers while its members were still in high school. The original members of the band were: Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick; they signed to Reprise Records and released an album, The Fourth World, in 1997. After a tepid response to the album, the band parted ways with the record label and the members attended college. In 2001, the band regrouped, with James Valentine added to the lineup, and pursued a new direction under the name: Maroon 5.

The band signed with Octone Records and released their debut album, Songs About Jane, in June 2002. The album's lead single "Harder to Breathe", received heavy airplay, which helped the album to debut at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's second and third singles, "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved", became worldwide hits reaching the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. For the next few years, the band toured extensively worldwide in support of Songs About Jane and produced two live recordings: 2004's 1.22.03.Acoustic and 2005's Live – Friday the 13th. In 2006, drummer, percussionist and backing vocalist Ryan Dusick left the band and was replaced by Matt Flynn. The band recorded their second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, and released in May 2007. The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single, "Makes Me Wonder", became the band's first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Hands All Over, the band's third studio album was released in September 2010 and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2011, the album was re-released and supported by their single "Moves like Jagger" featuring American singer Christina Aguilera. The song became the band's second single to reach number one on the Hot 100 chart; it has sold over 14.4 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles worldwide. The band released their fourth studio album, Overexposed, in June 2012. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The first two singles from the album "Payphone" and "One More Night", were both international hits and peaked at two and one on the Hot 100 chart respectively.

In 2014, the band signed Interscope Records and recorded their fifth studio album, V, which is set to be released on September 2, 2014.

Since its debut in 2002, the band has sold more than 10 million albums in the United States and over 30.8 million digital singles and 27 million albums worldwide.

In 2013, Maroon 5 became the third most-played artist on Top 40 Mainstream radio, based on Clear Channel owned Mediabase, becoming one of the most successful acts of Interscope Records.

I quite like that format though, I'm glad they're touching on every song in the chart. Would rather every new entry got played but oh well.

Top 25 in full than, every week, not bad, I wish he played those 2 new tracks though.

Nice to see an actual fast moving chart for once though even if it's a fluke.

Posted by: ¡brë! 10th July 2015, 03:09 PM

I wonder if they will re-run this chart at a later date as it's CLEARLY still completely wrong... good start to the Friday chart era laugh.gif

I don't mind this new format, at least they're not skipping songs entirely. If they're consistent with playing the top 25 in full and snippets of 26-40 then that's better than skipping songs at random. Would be better if new entries were played in full of course but then the amount of time they have would be different every week.

31-40 recap coming in a sec then tongue.gif

Biography
Pierre David Guetta (born November 7, 1967) is a French DJ and producer of electro music. Originally a DJ at nightclubs during the 1980s and 1990s, he co-founded Gum Productions and released his first album, Just a Little More Love, in 2002. Later, he released Guetta Blaster (2004) and Pop Life (2007).

Guetta achieved mainstream success with his 2009 album One Love which included the hit singles "When Love Takes Over", "Gettin' Over You", and "Sexy Bitch", all three of which reached #1 in the United Kingdom, and "Memories". The 2011 followup album, Nothing but the Beat, continued this success, containing the hit singles "Where Them Girls At", "Little Bad Girl", "Without You", "Titanium" and "Turn Me On".

David Guetta has sold over six million albums and 15 million singles worldwide. In 2011 Guetta was voted as the #1 DJ in the 'DJ Mag Top 100 DJs' fan poll.

In 2013, Billboard crowned "When Love Takes Over" as the number one dance-pop collaboration of all time.

Hey Mama is such a perfect club song biggrin.gif

Posted by: mr_aly 10th July 2015, 03:16 PM

'Stole The Show' is okay, but quite poor in comparison to 'Firestone' and some of his remixes. sad.gif

I just realised Carly Rae Jepsen has dropped out. Shame. sad.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 10th July 2015, 03:17 PM

There should be another dropout out but I'm not sure what, unless that's actually only 1 re-entry?

Posted by: Mart!n 10th July 2015, 03:17 PM

I think Thursdays update will certainly give us a clear picture of the chart of how it will look when its released the next day. At the moment, the chart is looking like yesterday's update apart from the 1 place drop/climb.

QUOTE(Kylie Minogue @ Jul 10 2015, 05:07 PM) *
So will this be the theme? 40-26 are recaps and 25-1 are played in full? I'm not happy with that, the new entries ALL deserve to be played.

Yep I agree, maybe in the next couple of weeks they will change this biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jade 10th July 2015, 03:18 PM

A strong start with 'Stole the Show' and 'Hey Mama'. heart.gif

A very hectic start there! I'm liking this format more than I already imagined, although a bit of a shame that new entries won't be played.

Not Letting Go down 20 places?

EDIT: Oh, it's See You Again, such a lovely track.

Gosh this chart is such a mess though sad.gif

Would have been nice if they play Pharrell and Petite as their new entries sad.gif

Posted by: Jade 10th July 2015, 03:19 PM

Urm I thought they were about to play 'Not Letting Go' then due to the start of that advert... was going to say, things would definitely be messed up. kink.gif

Ahh, 'See You Again'. Absolutely killing it right now in the U.S.!

Wiz released his fourth album Blacc Hollywood on August 18, 2014 backed by the lead single We Dem Boyz.

Yet to hear the new Pharrell single, seems to be lacking the hype you'd expect from a comeback by him.

LOL.

Still love Runaway and not keen on 'Peanut Butter Jelly' at all though.

Posted by: mr_aly 10th July 2015, 03:25 PM

I wish a lot of these tracks could fall this fast ordinarily (not applying to Galantis though).

Posted by: Jade 10th July 2015, 03:25 PM

'Runaway (U & I)' still sounding as stellar as ever. heart.gif Looking forward to the highlight of that coming on when listening to Now 91. happy.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 10th July 2015, 03:25 PM

Also gotta remember all these falling tracks get much of their chart points from weekend streaming so even without "datagate" this is fairly accurate to me so far.

Posted by: *Ben* 10th July 2015, 03:26 PM

I know it looked strange in the midweeks that some songs were a lot lower (or even didn't appear) with the mess of the streaming data, but I would say we shouldn't forget, that the two biggest streaming days are Friday and Saturday that aren't added to this chart. We will know more I guess when we see the top 100 and see where Avicii - Waiting For Love is biggrin.gif

At the moment I still trust that every data has been added, everything other is speculation at the moment kink.gif

Where Are U Now heart.gif

Still scraping the top 20 in this week biggrin.gif

I reckon' both OMI & Major Lazer will be out of the top 10!

Posted by: Taylor Jago 10th July 2015, 03:28 PM

Still can't get into this. The video is also just weird (especially with what's drawn on Justin's face, particularly regarding his nose).

Posted by: ¡brë! 10th July 2015, 03:28 PM

Caught up now! Yay.

The Petite Meller song is pretty bad so not mourning it not being played in full tbh. It probably shouldn't be in the top 40 anyway. Certainly not the top 30 at least I'd have thought.

Wait are all of the songs crashing and burning due to the shortened week?

I know it looked strange in the midweeks that some songs were a lot lower (or even didn't appear) with the mess of the streaming data, but I would say we shouldn't forget, that the two biggest streaming days are Friday and Saturday that aren't added to this chart. We will know more I guess when we see the top 100 and see where Avicii - Waiting For Love is biggrin.gif

At the moment I still trust that every data has been added, everything other is speculation at the moment kink.gif

I know what you're saying - but this is pretty much the exact same running order as yesterday's midweeks when huge amounts of data was clearly missing. Mark Ronson would have moved up a good 5 - 8 places today if his streaming was the usual 40/50% and not 15%.

Posted by: sm1ffj 10th July 2015, 03:29 PM

Just on a catch up, flicking through just caught a glimpse of Pharrell, and dread sunk in Happy is not back in, went back up an saw it wasn't. relief.

That's a good point, the big hits would've taken a sharper fall this week than usual anyway due to Friday and Saturday missing! Streaming is most definitely mostly missing but I'm not complaining at all, it hopefully means Birdy and James Bay are top 10 kink.gif

Biography
Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. Raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of fourteen to pursue a career in country music. She signed with the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. The release of Swift's eponymous debut album in 2006 established her as a country music star. "Our Song", her third single, made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number one song on the country chart. She received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards.

Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008. Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 and was supported by an extensive concert tour. The record won four Grammy Awards, with Swift becoming the youngest ever Album of the Year winner. Swift's third album, 2010's Speak Now, sold over one million copies in its first week of US release and was supported by the Speak Now World Tour. The album's third single, "Mean", won two Grammy Awards. Swift's fourth album, Red, was released in 2012. Its opening US sales of 1.2 million were the highest recorded in a decade, with Swift becoming the only female artist to have two million-plus opening weeks. The singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" were worldwide hits. The Red Tour is visiting worldwide venues in 2013 and 2014.

Swift is known for her narrative songs about her experiences as a teenager and young adult. As a songwriter, she has been honored by the Nashville Songwriters Association and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Swift's other achievements include seven Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, eleven American Music Awards, eleven Country Music Association Awards and six Academy of Country Music Awards. She has sold over 26 million albums and 75 million digital single downloads worldwide. Forbes estimates that she is worth over $220 million. In addition to her music career, Swift has appeared as an actress in the ensemble comedy Valentine's Day (2010) and the animated film The Lorax (2012). As a philanthropist, Swift supports arts education, children's literacy, natural disaster relief, LGBT anti-discrimination efforts, and charities for sick children.

I know this gets such a hard time on here but it's actually growing on me now! A bit of a bop even despite *that* falsetto. Maybe helps that I haven't heard the original.

Posted by: Taylor Jago 10th July 2015, 03:39 PM

I do not like this. Though what can you expect with Chris Brown (Champion is amazing though).

Posted by: ThePensmith 10th July 2015, 03:39 PM

If I recall correctly there was a news bulletin in the chart one week in 2001 - I'm thinking October - that was breaking the news UK and US had declared war on Afghanistan. I remember listening to that one.

Posted by: sm1ffj 10th July 2015, 03:39 PM

First Friday Drivetime chart I have listened to in over 10 years, the last one I listened to was over here on Ireland's 2fm the show at the time was presented by the Late Tony Fenton, who died recently.

Posted by: mr_aly 10th July 2015, 03:40 PM

I can't get into 'Five More Hours', it's just too generic and unremarkable.

Having said that, I can imagine me doing a U-turn one day if I hear it when I'm trashed on a night out.

Wasn't that because there was a separate breakers show before the news update, then the charts show proper was on from 16:30?

'Photograph' heart.gif The Felix Jaehn remix floating around is decent too, although doesn't hit me as hard as the original. Also saw the accompanying music video a few days ago for the first time and it's so lovely. wub.gif

I love Photograph.

Anyway, the reason why the songs are dropping so hard is because they've simply been pushed down by the four new entries, Wings, Let It Go climbing, and Photograph holding against the current, and having nothing which crashes down this week.

So far then, so disappointing.

I don't see the point of a chart show if they don't say how tracks have moved. Otherwise it's just a list of songs, not a chart show.

Not playing the new entries is also pointless and annoying.

If, on top of this, there's data missing, as some of you are saying, then this is a right old mess. Greg could do better than this.

A weekday reveal has a certain edge to it.

Surely the OCC cant let this chart stand, it has to be revised and reissued (and corrected on the Radio 1 website).
Following the appropriate rules as soon as they get all the data in.

Can't quite believe the missing data fiasco lol. I jokingly said a week or two ago that originally the chart counted down the best-selling single of the week, then downloads came along and it became (at least to me at the time) a countdown of the best-selling non-single of the week, then streaming made it the best non-selling non-single of the week. This non-week (5 days data) would thus have been the best non-selling non-single of the non-week, but it turns out that with the missing data it could be the non-best non-selling non-single of the non-week!!!!

It looks like the album chart rundown may be cancelled as Greg just casually mentioned Ed being the #1 album earlier when he played 'Photograph'. Album chart posts will just be posted some time after the chart show in future if this is the case. ~

They aren't, Petite Meller was #29 on the Thursday mids. Thursday is just a very low sales day so changes between that and Friday are minimal.

I guess we were all just expecting more of a shake up, optimistically hoping they would add the missing data.

I'll be interesting if it's mentioned by MW or OCC or use swept under the rug?

They couldn't do that after all the ~hype~

I expect the chart to be re-run and quietly swept under the carper (unless it affects the number 1) and that this is the reason Greg isn't saying 'down 6 places' etc.

Biography
English singer/pianist Jasmine van den Bogaerde, who goes by the stage name "Birdy," was born in 1996 in Lymington, Hampshire. Precocious from the very start, Bogaerde began composing her own songs at the age of seven, and by 12 had secured the top spot (out of 10,000 competitors) at 2008's Open Mic UK, a popular live music competition that rewards the winner with a recording contract. In January of 2011, she released her first single, a cover of American indie rock outfit Bon Iver's "Skinny Love," which peaked at number 17 on the U.K. pop charts. Her eponymous full-length debut, released through Atlantic Records, arrived later that November. The record was a huge success, particularly in Australia, Belgium, Holland and France, where it shot straight to number one in the chart, while it also reached the UK Top 20. The collection of stripped back arrangements was mostly compiled of indie artists, including The Postal Service and Fleet Foxes, whose songs were overhauled by Bogaerde's haunting voice and sparse production. The follow-up to her debut presented a new phase in Bogaerde's development as her sophomore album Fire Within displayed her own songwriting talent with 11 original tracks. The album was written with help from collaborators such as Ryan Tedder (Beyoncé, Leona Lewis), Dan Wilson (Adele, Taylor Swift) and Mumford & Sons pianist Ben Lovett and was slated for release in 2013. ~ James Christopher Monger & Scott Kerr, Rovi / iTunes

'Wings' is a really lovely song, I hope this becomes a big enough hit to overshadow her previous monstrosities... probably won't happen though, even with it being her highest peaker by far (in fact it already was even before this revival).

Amazing for Birdy! Definitely the more deserving track over Skinny Love to be a top ten.

I've still yet to see this advert though.

Posted by: JosephStyles 10th July 2015, 04:16 PM

LOVING Wings right now, the advert has really given this a new lease of life for me, I underrated it so much back in 2013! wub.gif

Posted by: Rush 10th July 2015, 04:16 PM

This was/is an ok/decent song, but not worthy of a revival. I'd rather a 3rd round of 'Skinny Love'.

(granted I haven't heard the acoustic version)

Posted by: 'Dan 10th July 2015, 04:17 PM

Birdy getting that long overdue top 10 smash then! guess this makes up for Skinny Love's ridiculously low peak for a song as big-selling as it was

Incredible result for 'Wings'!

This pretty much annihilates her covers, her gentle vocals work really well on such a haunting effort. wub.gif

They couldn't do that after all the ~hype~

I expect the chart to be re-run and quietly swept under the carper (unless it affects the number 1) and that this is the reason Greg isn't saying 'down 6 places' etc.

I don't think that's the case, I don't even think he's aware of this probable missing data gate.

Biography
Walk the Moon (often stylized as WALK THE MOON) is an American Indie rock band based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Lead singer Nicholas Petricca started the band in 2008 and went through several member changes before finally coming together with current members Kevin Ray, Sean Waugaman, and Eli Maiman in 2010. The band derives their name from the song "Walking on the Moon" by The Police. The group independently released their debut album, I Want! I Want!, in November 2010, receiving airplay for the track "Anna Sun" on multiple Alternative radio stations. In February 2011, Walk the Moon signed with Mick Management. They signed to RCA Records and released their first major label album, their second overall, the self-titled Walk the Moon, in June 2012. It is composed of many of their original tracks from I Want! I Want! as well as new tracks that were written specifically for the album and were meant to reflect the kind of energy the band produced in their live shows. In December 2014, the band released their second major-label studio album, Talking Is Hard. This album included their biggest hit to date, "Shut Up and Dance," which has so far charted at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number 1 on Billboard's Rock Songs chart and Billboard's Alternative Songs chart.

SPIN Magazine has described them as a "poppy, art-rock quartet". They were also deemed a Nylon Magazine Band Crush for their "swirly pop beats, infectious guitar riffs, and loud, sing-a-long choruses."

Biography
Fifth Harmony is an American girl group formed on the second season of the X Factor USA. The group consists of members Ally Brooke Hernandez, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen, Camila Cabello, and Lauren Jauregui. They signed a joint deal with Syco Music, owned by Simon Cowell, and Epic Records, L.A. Reid's record label, after finishing in third place behind Tate Stevens and Carly Rose Sonenclar on the show.

Following their exit from The X Factor, their debut single "Miss Movin' On" was released and peaked at number 76 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over 500,000 digital downloads. Their debut EP, Better Together was released in 2013 with a first week position of number six on the US Billboard 200. Fifth Harmony won MTV's Artist To Watch award at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.

Following the release of singles, "BO$$" (2014) and "Sledgehammer" (2014), both of which were certified Platinum by the RIAA for selling over 1,000,000 digital downloads, their debut studio album, Reflection was released in February 2015. The album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200, with 80,000 units sold in the first week. The album was also supported by the group's first major headlining tour, the Reflection Tour.

The Reflection Tour started on February 27, 2015, in San Francisco. Jasmine V, Jacob Whitesides and Mahogany Lox were the opening acts. When it ended on March 27, 2015, in Philadelphia, a second leg was announced for July 15 through September 15, and will feature Bea Miller, Debby Ryan, and Natalie La Rose as opening acts. [6] The first leg of the tour grossed over $1.1 million alone, making it the group's highest grossing tour yet.

On June 3, 2015, "Worth It" featuring American rapper Kid Ink (the third single from Reflection) was certified Platinum by the RIAA for selling 1,000,000 copies in the United States. 'Worth It' also became the group's first Top 15 hit , after peaking at number 14 on Billboard Hot 100. With 3.5 million singles sold in the United States alone, from their EP, Better Together, and their debut studio album, Reflection, Fifth Harmony has emerged as one of the most successful alumni from the X Factor US franchise and have also been labeled the most influential contestant to come from the series.

I'm pretty sure David is actually even further ahead when accounting for the lost data but regardless of the circumstances, we have another GOOD #1 so yay! 2nd best of the year after Tinie & Jess for me. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ethan 10th July 2015, 04:37 PM

omg David Zowie is #1~

Posted by: Kylie Minogue 10th July 2015, 04:38 PM

Awww sad.gif I really like the David Zowie track but as far as house tracks go it's nowhere near one of the best of the year, it's just been jumped on by chavs.

So utterly horrific beats beyond bland then.

Gosh years and years are so overrated drama.gif Sunlight is the only thing I like that they've done

Now Greg IS mentioning the movement (in the recap), he's getting it wrong! James Bay is UP four, but he said down four!

Noticed that, bit shoddy!

David Zowie at #1 cheer.gif cheer.gif cheer.gif

it becoming a non-#1 seems likely but YAY, really loving House Every Weekend right now.

let's hope if the chart gets revised he's still #1 kink.gif

Posted by: Taylor Jago 10th July 2015, 04:39 PM

Absolutely gutted, I was really hoping that Shine could be number one. Oh well, it will hold up well next week while House Every Weekend will likely fall out of top 5, so Y&Y get the last laugh.

Posted by: Jade 10th July 2015, 04:39 PM

LOVE this top two so didn't really mind who got it either way. 'Shine' is gorgeous and 'House Every Weekend' is a bop. I'm sure the latter will be remembered more down the line anyway!

Posted by: Rush 10th July 2015, 04:39 PM

Really glad David Zowie got #1, not just because I prefer it but that it would surely be #1 with Spotify included.

Biggest congratulations to Zowie's label for picking this week to release on laugh.gif

Posted by: Doctor Blind 10th July 2015, 04:40 PM

I think David Zowie would have been #1 even with the missing data so I think Years & Years rightfully only place at number 2. But what a total mess this first chart has been!

Posted by: harryflynn0908 10th July 2015, 04:40 PM

David Zowie cheer.gif

But Years and Years would have been good too sad.gif

Not a bad start, Thanks for hosting Ben...

Posted by: Dobbo 10th July 2015, 04:40 PM

House Every Weekend has good production but the vocals are utterly woeful, why couldn't Take Me Away be the big deep house hit sad.gif

Shine is by a mile their best track heart.gif

Posted by: *Ben* 10th July 2015, 04:40 PM

So that was the first chart show on a Friday, thank you that - in the end - so many of you followed and commented the chart biggrin.gif

See you next week wink.gif wub.gif

Posted by: T Boy 10th July 2015, 04:40 PM

I don't know what a David Zowie is but isn't it's sounds like it's mooching off the success of David Bowie by slightly changing the name. I could be wrong.

Posted by: SevenSees 10th July 2015, 04:41 PM

Well done to Y&Y, another great result for them!

David Zowie #1 though wow ohmy.gif very impressive

Posted by: mr_aly 10th July 2015, 04:41 PM

'Shine' is starting to grow a bit, although it's not 1/50th as good as 'King' so #2 seems about right to me.

King was good for a month/month and a half before it got old. Now it's nearly unbearable

Posted by: Chez Wombat 10th July 2015, 04:42 PM

Great number 1 whatever the circumstances (I'm sure with streaming, Zowie's even further ahead anyway). Shine is good but pales next to King so I feel #2's a more appropriate peak

And it also means we have some sick 'OUSE at number 1 music.gif

Posted by: Dircadirca 10th July 2015, 04:42 PM

A bit disappointed but really enjoy HEW too so not too bothered.

I'd guess that, in keeping with the order the chart is played out, his copy of the chart is printed (or formatted if not a print copy) with 40 at the top and 1 at the bottom, so that the arrows for up and down are in effect the opposite way round to the chart, and that led to his confusion there.

I highly doubt they will re-do the chart. I actually think the data might be lost for good, which is why they kept saying 'all dad is included'

They can't take that #1 away form Zowie now they've given it to him in person.

Posted by: Dobbo 10th July 2015, 04:45 PM

At least it means deep house is very much still alive with this & Lost Frequencies the last 2 #1s.

This has been the most entertaining chart in ages with all the unpredictability & the best dropouts of any week.

Serious question, do you always overestimate stuff you're not keen on as to be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't happen?

Years & Years were just 900 sales behind David Zowie’s House Every Weekend:

Funny in Ireland we get to view the whole chart at 1pm and it is counted down at 8pm.

Posted by: Doctor Blind 10th July 2015, 05:03 PM

The chart still hasn't been published.. just loads of comments from Mexican's upset about Years & Years not getting the #1.

MESS

THE CHART IS UP NOW

No Avicii to be seen.

Posted by: AcerBen 10th July 2015, 05:10 PM

Just tuning in to the start now as I've been at work. I like the new sound to the show and great to hear my old friend Greg doing it.

Bit disappointed that they've just decided to play the top 25 rather than the 20 + new entries and climbers. Petite Meller deserved a play.

Posted by: Hadji 10th July 2015, 05:14 PM

We get the first NOW 89-less chart the same day that the NOW 91 tracklist gets announced

Posted by: AcerBen 10th July 2015, 05:25 PM

Oh my, news at 4.30! They always used to break for the news at 4.30 on the chart until 1995.

Posted by: FinalFantasy7Bes 10th July 2015, 06:34 PM

Why would Mexicans be upset aboo that?

Posted by: AntoineTTe 10th July 2015, 06:35 PM

Haha...I completely forgot the chart was being announced today!

Posted by: FinalFantasy7Bes 10th July 2015, 06:38 PM

Huh why would it get rerun??

How the hell is Zane Lowe no1 when nowhere in the iTunes??

Because it is wrong. It has been recompiled before (see my commentary) and should be this time if at all possible. If Spotify cannot recover the data, they will have a problem in identifying what royalties are due.

Posted by: Suedehead2 10th July 2015, 08:02 PM

The OCC have deleted some comments (including mine) referring to the missing data from their website.

Posted by: gooddelta 10th July 2015, 08:07 PM

Shame that the OCC are trying to cover it up and gloss it over won't make any official statement about it. Deleting comments is a convenient way to try and pretend that this never happened but the issue will still remain.

I can't believe none of the newspapers have picked up on it and run a story about the first Friday chart being incorrect, they were all quick enough to write stories about streaming being included in the charts last year!

They could write the story about including streaming from the OCC press release. Writing a story about this would mean doing some actual work.

David Zowie is somehow #1 on the sales & download chart too despite not being #1 on iTunes individually or combined at any stage of the week.

Posted by: JimmyT 10th July 2015, 08:41 PM

I have tweeted OCC some comments, no response- not that I expected any.
I suggest people tweet them.
It does smell a bit of a cover up, which is poor because Im sure they would come down hard on any artist not following their rules.

Krept & Konan getting a #2 album this early in their career is extremely impressive (and not with ENTIRELY terrible sales either). Good to see Saint Raymond and Lucy Rose holding onto top 10 albums as well!
