ZAYN managed the fast selling #1 of 2016 so far last week, but his second-week fate is unknown. Lukas Graham's '7 Years' is fast gaining in popularity and could, take on the #1 spot. In terms of new entries, there's not as much going on as last week, but we have new releases from Katy B and DJ Fresh both fight for top 40 entries, along with Adele who properly begins the single campaign for 'When We Were Young', releasing the single mix along with putting the song on Spotify.
In album news, Sir Elton John is the biggest new release this week, with 'Wonderful Crazy Night', which fights for the top spot. After missing the #1 with incredible opening sales over 200k last year to the unbeatable Adele, Coldplay come out this week all guns blazing, reducing their album to 99p on Google Play, and reducing it on Amazon and iTunes ready for their big Superbowl halftime show on Sunday, can they score that belated #1? We also have new releases from Foxes, Future, Eric Prydz and Wiz Khalifa.

Album chart looking to be one of the most unpredictable ?
All set for the big Coldplay vs Rihanna vs Elton John vs David Bowie vs Adele battle for the number 1 spot.
Battle of the heavyweights.
really hope Eric Prydz does well with his album this week! His compilation from a few years back charted at #40 but as this one is being marketed as his first proper album it should at least outpeak that. Top 20 would be nice though but the album chart's always unpredictable.
think Coldplay will grab the #1 album this week, is the googleplay offer for 1 day or the whole week????
Eric Pridz is top 10 on itunes albums, was #7 last time I checked, so should do well, top 20-30
also the fight for #1 in singles is very interesting
7 years has quite a big lead over Zayn on itunes, almost 30%, while on Spotify Zayn is selling 450K per day while 7 years is almost on 300K and climbing... hope 7 years gets there, by far the better song
“7 Years” will get there this on the combined chart this week I think with a continued increase in streaming, Zayn is a one-week-wonder IMO (certainly on sales anyway).
Mint Royale has confirmed that Coldplay are already #1 in the album midweeks.
I wonder how far into the top 40 adele can get this week with WWWY. Top 30 on itunes and spotify
Singles
1) Lukas Graham
6) Little Mix
8) Dj Fresh
34) Katy B
68) Danny L Harle
Albums
1)Coldplay
2) Elton John
3) Bowie
4) Foxes
9) Rihanna
12) Field Music
(Remember that up to 80% of streaming data will probably be missing here)
DJ Fresh must have had mega pre-orders!
Must be a hell of a lot of data missing for DJ Fresh to be #8
Really happy to see Coldplay finally get their 7th Number 1 album!
Added more positons to the mini Minty recap above. Rihanna and Little Mix included.
Not great for Anti. I thought a lot of people thought it was heading for #1 this week?
Excellent to see Danny, Little Mix and DJ Fresh so high but as mentioned, the likely mass of missing streaming info will probably mean Danny and DJ Fresh are much lower, and Little Mix probably about #9.
really thought Anti would climb at least into the top 3
I actually don't get the 99p for Coldplay, sure the album was selling alright and could have had a chance even without the 99p reduction considering all the super promo this week
at rihanna actually dropping already so physicals really wasnt the key
On a side note though most of her albums were released in november so lower salea would have been expected but its rihanna oh how the mighty have fallen
Ooh that's great news for Coldplay I didn't think they'd ever find an opportunity to get #1 with this album in the end.
Happy for Coldplay if they can finally get the number 1. Also, hope WWWY gets in the Top 30.
Bad for Anti......
But I actually think it could have been #1 anyway without the need to reduce it to 99p
Does the Super Bowl really have a massive effect in the UK?
I presume there's been some promotion for the Eric Prydz album then? I had no idea it existed until a couple of days ago.
I hope Coldplay can stay number 1.
If only DJ Fresh could hold up
Well a top-40 seems reachable for him. He needs to better up his material really.
Yes at Coldplay looking to nab #1 on the albums chart. Hoping Rihanna can at least be a steady seller until she starts doing some proper promotion for it.
Dj fresh at 22. Will he hold on?
Ministry of Sound release falling at a 'comical rate' due to failed hyped held-back release strategy.
SCHADENFREUDE alert.
I think he might just sneak into top 30
I hope DJ Fresh can make top 40. It's because people can't be bothered to stream that song yet they can stream songs which have been out for ages
I WANT TO KNOW what is the lead for Coldplay and if they can be number 1 on Friday
I think the main reason for Dj Fresh's failure is that no1curr because the song doesn't stand out. It wouldn't have done any better as an on air sale.
Yeh it sounds like every other DJ fresh release for the past 6 years and so he's not living up to his name any longer - a new Sigala track for instance would do much better held back because they are flavour of the month chart wise but I still agree held back releases in this day and age is a ridiculous tactic.
^^^ I wouldn't even be able to tell that involved DJ Fresh had I not read it, though. It's all Sigala sound.
Eugh Coldplay.
I wonder if there is any sign of Fleur East and her complete flop.. I mean.. er, single ? Obviously not in the Top 200 but y'know, maybe Top 300 ?
Shes just shot her music video, promo starts next week, so maybe it will climb up the charts then. Its barely had any radio play yet, the impact date is weeks away and to call it a flop when the campaign for it hasnt started is a bit unfair.
Except this DJ Fresh single isn't going to peak high even with the held back release, so it's not exactly a cheat method to get a hit all the time
Oh I know, but generally speaking it is basically a cheat to get a high peak in this day and age (it wasn't so bad when everyone did it). If this goes top 40, it'll only have made it there through this held-back strategy (and it'll also be a miracle at this rate but even so).
It would be doing well with Capital support
7 years now selling almost double relative to Zayn on itunes... hope it's enough to beat his streaming advantage
Yes! Coldplay for #1 album
If Foxes actually makes the top 10 with this album, I think that'll be a pretty amazing result for her all things considered.

I hope Fleur doesn't re-enter. Twenty One Pilots to push her out by Friday please
With 5k ahead Lukas should be on lock for #1 and Little Mix for top 10 this week which is music to my ears
Hoping DJ Fresh and Tiesto hold on to the top 40.
Pleased Coldplay are gonna snatch the #1 and get their 7th studio album chart topper, It's a great album just a shame it's taken a 99p Google promotion and being reduced to half price on iTunes to do it (On top of the SB50 performance that they are getting hammered for in the States this morning )
Hope Chris Isaak holds on to that top 40 place
MW sales added - 7 Years on 36.9k and Coldplay on 19.1k (and that's before the Superbowl effect).
Is it looking like Rihanna's Spotify streams have been added to Work and the album? Comparing to last week percentages I mean.
do you guys know the % of Coldplay sales that are from googleplay (or at least digital)?
Good to see Little Mix heading for the top 10 again, even if it is with my least favourite single thus far from this new album of theirs (mainly because of Derulo).
Absolutely love the new little mix song great to see them get another top 10
Only thing that annoys me is derulo i dont mind him singing on the song its the video that bothers me must he always do that dance it steals some of the emotion from it
What a horrific number one. This year hasn't been the best for #1s so far (bar Pillowtalk) but this is too far.
The new chart is on Radio 1 earlier this Friday, 2-4pm, due to the finale of Greg's run or something.
yet another hideous 2016 #1 ~ '7 years' is such a blandfest
hoping, by way of a small crumb of comfort, that jonas blue can overhaul zayn by friday~
good to see kygo recovering after a stumble last week; fingers crossed tiësto/oliver heldens can make the top40 this week
i agree that the mos release strategy is absurd, surely it would make more sense to lend their name to a prominent spotify playlist rather than desperately trying to cling onto the past by holding releases back into oblivion?!
Good set of Number 1's this week in Lukas Graham and Coldplay
The full top 100 charts won't be revealed till the evening though
This will be the worst set of #1 singles to begin a year that I can recall in a very long time. :/
They may as well all be the same song.
Cant understand how anyone can possibly hate 7 Years Such a beautiful song.
Elton John Carpool Karaoke available to view, may give his Album a boost as well as repeat of Graham Norton Show tonight.
Come on lukas graham. Decent number one
but Lukas Graham has nothing to do with Zayn/Bieber or even Stitches, it's another thing 100% different, what does Bieber has to be with signer-songwriter???
Love Yourself in particular is what is meant. It's practically an Ed Sheeran song (well he did write it), and that's no bad thing for me. The #1s this year seem to be of a similar style but not similar enough to blend into one, or even close to that for me...
I know, I'm from Denmark so don't be pedantic
the point is that the Zayn song vs. the Lukas song don't sound anything alike
call them whatever you want but Bieber or Zayn are no singer-songwriters, do you think they have something in common with people like Bob Dylan, Damien Rice, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Leonard Cohen etc??? come on!!!! They're silly pop singers, that's like an insult to real singer-songwriters!!!!!
and Shawn Mendes... he did not write or had anything to do with Stitches, he's no singer-sognwriter he's just a pure bubblegum pop singer, same as Britney or Kylie, and I'd out Zayn and Bieber in the same category, just cos they're added as co-writers in a song with 10 co-writers cos they changed a comma, that doesn't make them Joan Baez
I find it pretty funny that some people say 7 Years is hideous and then hail Jonas Blue's pointless cover of an 80s hit as a great song.
Besides, Shawn may not have written Stitches but he co-wrote most of his album so that makes him a singer/songwriter too
Also, can we ditch the assumption that to be a great artist you have to write your own songs? Writing songs it a totally different talent to singing songs.
Any news of where major lazer feat craig is and craigs bassline single? Thannkkks ,)
Instead of Scott covering the chart show from 2-4 on Friday, he should do it 1-4 and play the whole top 40 in full
As it looks like Coldplay have the number 1 Album in the bag this week wonder whether next week will be another 2015 Album getting to top,
Either Bieber or Adele both performing at Grammys will surely sell more than Kanye West. Grammys need to be a Kanye West-free zone after recent years especially as there are tributes to the likes of David Bowie planned.
The Gaga performance could push Best of Bowie back to number 1.

Hopefully 7 Years can be #1 for a couple of weeks (and not in the chart for 7 years )
Ideally not for much longer than that (as great as the song is)
DJ Fresh out of top-40. LOL. Please release some music which is up to your name next.
Hopefully Foxes can stay Top 15.
hopefully little mix can climb atleast another place also great to see the album rising again
Where's History and Made in the A.M.?
Yay Chris Isaak seems to be higher in the album charts in latest midweeks
How are away is Secret Love Song away from 6 & 5? Thanks
*far
We only have the sales that have been given I'm afraid!
Surprising to see Ellie go up a place from Monday into the Top 20 as well. Never thought "Army" would get close to Top 20.
Where's Anti please?
"25" overtaking "Blackstar" already is a no-no. Hope Coldplay can hang onto #1. As for the singles, I don't want Zayn denying Lukas Graham #1 and I hope G-Eazy and 21 Pilots can stay top 40. Shame DJ Fresh is out
^^
"Hang on" to #1? They've increased their already very large lead (relative to current sales levels) since Monday, and there's only 2 days sales left. If they didn't sell a single copy until the end of the week they'd still be #1.
they've thrown the k!tchen sink at it, but coldplay have seized the opportunity to get 'a head full of dreams' to #1~
the acoustic guitar driven prepubescent angst/whining clogging up the top of the singles chart is unremitting
hope 21 pilots can stay top40~
How far are Chainsmokers from the top 40 seeing as they're #53 on Spotify and #60 on iTunes?
Do youknow how many of Coldplay sales
Are googleplay/digital?
Guys we don't have all the info in today, what you see for today is all we have. We can't answer some of the requests.
Amazing to see twenty one pilots top 40 in its third week in the top 100. That song is growing on me like a rash atm! Hope Adele can climb a bit more by Friday too
Little mix looking comfortable for top 10 with very little promotion
Although at the same time it decreases their chances of number 1
Would appreciate the Midweek chart position of 'If I Can Dream' please
Many Thanks.
Brian
I will be ever so disappointed of Little Mix do not hold their top 10 position now.
she's even back at #1 on itunes album now, not even sure why the sudden climb
Another hit single should mean that 25 is the default number one for the next couple of months.
^^Yeh if theres nothing big like Bowie death, huge new release etc Adele & Justin will threaten the album top spot because they can sell 20k a week still.
I am hoping Foxes will hold on to the top 10. I'm glad Zara is doing well , hopefully a 2nd top 10 single over the next few weeks
We have mids for today, one of the chart mods will be on the case soon.
I'm on it, two secs ~

I'm really surprised Alessia Cara seems to have stalled and isn't taking off as much as I had imagined here.
No, I just meant I thought 'Here' would be a huge hit. I'm surprised it's not as popular overall as I thought it'd be.
is the Coldplay album still on sale for 99p? cos it has slowed down a lot, Adele and Bowie/Best selling much more than them
So, MITAM is back to the Top 20 or...?
25 will back at number 1 next week I'd imagine.
I also thought Alessia Cara was gonna do better, US top 5, full support from r1... but right now it's #25 on itunes and #40 on Spotify...
It hasn't peaked high but has stayed steady with its AirPlay, I expect it'll fall quite quickly when it's Alisting ends next week.
Position for 'If I Can Dream' please.
Many Thanks.
Brian
That Alessia Cara song is extremely basic imo, nothing to it.
