9th place: EnglandNewOrder - World In Motion UK chart run: 2-1-1-2-4-6-8-10-18-28-45-66-43 (13 weeks) Well some of the crowd are on the pitch. They think it's all over. Well it is now. Yep it's England's 1990 world cup song that falls out of the race now after gaining a third of the votes in round two. So I'm just going to confess that I actually really quite like this song, even the John Barnes rap part! It is essentially just a New Order song in structure and melody which helps my love for it no end, plus I like that's not overtly football related with the exception of the sampled intro etc and the en-ger-land outro. Plus I like that it finally gave New Order a very well deserved #1 single, even if clearly Blue Monday or True Faith would have been far more deserved. I also like that the song reminds me of a time when we had these type of songs occasionally and sometimes bizarrely charting - who can forget Manchester United's 'Come On You Reds' making #1 in 1994 for example, or Middlesbrough feat Bob Mortimer and Chris Rea making #44 It represents what I love about 90s music, that it was always difficult to predict what types of songs and music would be doing well in 3 months time and you would listen to the chart and get a random novelty song, followed by an indie band, followed by a huge eurodance hit, followed by a wannabe boyband, followed by Enya. Those were the days! Anyway enough of me sounding old. Let's move onwards to round 3 and dispose of yet another of 1990's biggest songs. Vote away! |

Just never was a big fan, not even when I was 7 years old and certainly not now at 37 |

Beats International mainly cos it's just not as good as the SOS Band original - it's a really good single, but it's not Jam & Lewis
