Calvin & Dua for #1!

Posted by: JosephAvery 8th April 2018, 12:19 PM

Kylie almost on 31k already, she's beaten Kiss Me Once's first week, superb!

Posted by: Bartier Cqmerqn 8th April 2018, 12:31 PM

Should be on 35k for Monday’s mids then.

TGS sold 43k-44k at number 1 last week so I'd use that as a target.

Yes I think so, it almost sold as many as TGS did during the whole of last week.

Edit. Actually not quite. Still has another 5 days of sales though.

Posted by: dandy* 8th April 2018, 01:08 PM

I still think it could be close, Kylie is likely to be very front loaded indeed... although she is still #1 on iTunes so I guess that is a good sign that she's maybe selling better than I would have expected.

That is excellent news and well above what I was expecting. I am so pleased and excited for Kylie!!

I think Graham Norton has helped Kylie quite well and she has a couple more promo slots too before the week is out, I think she can keep the #1 cheer.gif

I expected Kylie to sell around 50,000+ opening week, ‘Dancing’ May not have a top 40 peak but her promotion this campaign has been sensational! She’s been on almost every show possible!

Posted by: JosephAvery 8th April 2018, 01:22 PM

Honestly I had Kylie down for 35-40k so to see that she should surpass that quite easily is brilliant!

I think she will get it comfortably - there is still a fair bit of Promo to come, tomorrow she is on The One Show and also repeat of TGNS is broadcast.
Also I don't think The Greatest Showman sales will be as high as last week (which were the third highest since release given the boost to This Is Me)

Posted by: Dexton 8th April 2018, 01:51 PM

I think Dancing could even go Top 40 this week, low Top 40 but still

Not much better than in the UK in terms of chart positions (#46 for Dancing, failed to go Top 100 for SMFF) although Dancing did do fairly well in airplay

Posted by: iain 8th April 2018, 02:11 PM

Hopefully Stop Me From Falling will get into the top 100 this week. It’s currently 20 on iTunes, matching its peak position on the day of release.

I doubt Dancing will go top 40, I suppose it depends on how it holds up this week, and how many of the 7” singles were sold.

Kylie and her label have done a great job with promotion for this album, so I am glad they are getting the sales, which in the current album climate are impressive!

I didn't feel like Kiss Me Once had much of a promotional push in comparison, which definitely hindered its success and longevity. Only promo I recall for Into The Blue was one performance on The Voice and then the Sexercise promo vid, whereas Kylie has been everywhere this time around.

Fingers crossed for 50k+ sales first week. 60k would be amazing.

I don't think anybody else expected that.

To see it outsell Kiss Me Once's first week in one day is so brilliant. ohmy.gif I'm made up about that.

I expect it'll finish on around 35-40K by the end of the week though.

It's outsold Kiss Me Once's first week in two days! Friday and Saturday.

I think 35k is extremely pessimistic, it would only be selling 800 copies a day (after shifting 6-7k yesterday) for that to happen, I think we're definitely looking to the higher end of that bracket as a minimum. Would need to sell ~2.8k a day on average for the rest of the week to reach 45k, ahead of what The Greatest Showman sold last week, and I think that's achievable!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 8th April 2018, 03:37 PM

I kind of want Dancing to go Top 40 just to hear Radio 1 play it.

I was thinking more in the region of 38k, but I'm hoping it can do that much!

Posted by: 777666jason 8th April 2018, 04:40 PM

Ordinarily those sales would be an easy number 1 for Kylie fingers crossed TGS sales drop just enough

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 8th April 2018, 04:59 PM

Didn't the greatest showman get a boost last week from the vinyl release which would have also increased sales due to awareness.

Kylie has opened strong and will be front loaded but hopefully she can hold up all week and get a well deserved number 1 and it's great too see her sales increase from kiss me once.

I would love dancing to make the top 40 as it's her best single since all the lovers, the vinyl release will hopefully give her a boost and fingers crossed stop me from falling can make the top 100 as it's a great second single.

I am loving the Kylie buzz at the moment as I havnt enjoyed a kylie release as much since Aphrodite, golden is a very very solid album and the promotion has been excellent. I'm excited for the charts this week.

Dancing didn’t re-enter the top 200, so I don’t think it’ll go top 40 unfortunately

Probably 50 magic.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 8th April 2018, 06:04 PM

I think when you consider 'Dancing' was #22 in the first midweeks the week it made #47, that could be a positive sign.

Posted by: dandy* 8th April 2018, 06:06 PM

As lovely as it is to see Kylie doing well, there's so many formats and bundles of it that its 30K sales are actually split between a mere 153 fans.

Posted by: bluebitchboy 8th April 2018, 06:12 PM

Kylie sold 24k day 1 (which would have included all the fan bundle preorders) and sold another 7k yesterday, so it is clearly stretching beyond her fanbase.
Deservedly so, it's a fantastic album.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 8th April 2018, 06:36 PM

Kylie will pick up casual sales through the week and some fans may yet have to buy it too.

True, but didn’t Dancing have like 70k streams first day to help it a bit? If only she performed Dancing The GN show!

Posted by: SmileyKylie 8th April 2018, 06:46 PM

Hey every artist does what they can to grab sales. Her fans want phyisicals......

Bloody hell Greatest Showman is getting 40% sales from streaming on playlists lol.

Don't diss Minogue.

Stop Me From Falling is the dark horse..... Mark my words..... Top 40 in a few weeks

That means if streaming is missing, it puts her in a better position than then surely?

That also amounts to about 460 copies.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 8th April 2018, 06:55 PM

It's likely when streaming is added it will push Kylie down.
Sales of dancing are doing ok its streaming that's holding it back.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 8th April 2018, 06:58 PM

Not sure it is a given that Kylie will be number one in albums. Could be close. Needs to have had a good day today. If she can reach 40k I will be ecstatic what ever place she gets

What I mean is, if streaming was included with her #22 midweek position she had at the time then she's in a more advantageous position now, even if it would push her down a bit more from #10?

So the Voice winner Ruti has sold approx 12,000 on iTunes already!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 8th April 2018, 10:18 PM

Looks like we might have the biggest selling voice single to date!

Posted by: Bré 8th April 2018, 10:32 PM

Well that's not a high bar to clear x (and I don't think it even will be anyway, the market has shrunk a lot since Stevie McCrorie which I assume is currently the highest selling The Voice coronation single).

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 8th April 2018, 10:43 PM

If it can hold up through the week and have a bit of a chart run it could take the title.
I usually dont watch the voice, do the winners usually do promo in the week following the win?

Posted by: Bré 8th April 2018, 11:07 PM

It almost certainly won't though. The trend with The Voice is basically that there's interest in the winner's single for about a day or two and then they disappear off the face of the planet.

Posted by: iain 9th April 2018, 10:13 AM

Kylie sold 3,069 copies yesterday and is now on 33,737 sales. Greatest Showman sold 3,475 and is on 11k. Streaming is missing though (Fri, Sat and Sunday for Spotify)

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 9th April 2018, 10:16 AM

That looks like she's 100% shoo-in to get the #1! YESSSSSSSS! cheer.gif

Posted by: iain 9th April 2018, 10:19 AM

I'm still not 100% convinced that Kylie will be no 1. Greatest Showman did 12.7k last week streaming equivalent, assuming a similar amount this week, it takes it up to 24k. Assuming 4k/day sales for the next 4 days, it goes up to 40k. Kylie will do 2k streaming equivalent (max), and if it sells 2k/day for the next 4 days it takes it to around 43k. I think it's going to be close.

Posted by: iain 9th April 2018, 10:22 AM

Also, Golden breakdown:

19k on CD
5,588 (!) on vinyl
7,100 on digital

Kylie has just added 1,000 signed cassettes to her store. So hopefully these 1,000 items will be snapped up and added to her sales the week

Because not every artist cares so much about chart positions or bleeding fans dry.

I can only imagine how many of those cassettes will never get played and sit on a shelf for the next 10 years.

Posted by: Midge 9th April 2018, 10:50 AM

I wonder how many copies of the Kylie album this week aren't duplicates or other versions or whatever? I'm delighted for her heading for number 1 but her chart performance in this era does feel somewhat artificial.

Edit: though on reflection, that has been going on for years with fans for all sorts of artists, it's just easier to see it in this era.

Posted by: x8619ry 9th April 2018, 10:56 AM

Kylie is old now. That's the fact, and she needs to rely on her fanbase more than younger artists. Why do some people care so much about what old gay men buy? You still have plenty of time to play the soundtrack on Spotify.

That doesn't make any sense biggrin.gif Why "old gay men" wouldn't play Kylie on Spotify as well or TGS for that matter as the soundtrack is cross-over phenomenon.

QUOTE(iain @ Apr 9 2018, 11:19 AM) *
I'm still not 100% convinced that Kylie will be no 1. Greatest Showman did 12.7k last week streaming equivalent, assuming a similar amount this week, it takes it up to 24k. Assuming 4k/day sales for the next 4 days, it goes up to 40k. Kylie will do 2k streaming equivalent (max), and if it sells 2k/day for the next 4 days it takes it to around 43k. I think it's going to be close.

Ah, but last week TGS was boosted by easter sales & a vinyl version, so I think it'll slip back to 35-40k this week.

Posted by: iain 9th April 2018, 11:09 AM

Even if you took away all the preorders with the multiple formats, she'd still be on course for 20k+ this week which is around the same as Justin T, Camila etc

As a 50 year old the odds really are stacked against her in terms of airplay and streaming, so it's not surprising that she needs to find different ways to boost sales. I imagine this will be the benchmark for future releases from "heritage" artists.

Kylie is on The One show tonight at 7pm

Graham Norton repeat at 11.30pm

Coming for those midweek sales.]

how is selling a cassette at £7 fleecing fans? that's 1 hour minimum wage and her fans want these things. hardly breaking the bank. They have to do minimum runs of 4,000 I think........ she sold the 1st 4k and must have decided to do another run and added some signed ones.

everyone re-issues, creates what their fans want...... hardly new.....

plus all these artists paying Spotify to get top of their playlists etc

Everyone does promo.

If it makes kylie fans happy then that's good. no harm

Also Golden number 5 on Apple Music streaming. So its getting some streaming sales.

Cant wait for the Gente De Zona remix of Stop Me From Falling on 20th

Posted by: vibe 9th April 2018, 11:54 AM

Her record company have been very astute in selling so many different versions of the album. (I’m not a fan oh her btw but this is becoming the norm).

Only problem will be the second week position .

and also the cassette not signed is also available again so must have done another run of 4,000 copies

Posted by: pippa 9th April 2018, 12:17 PM

If Kylie has added more cassettes it would indicate the original run has sold extremely well.

Every sale will count this week in her battle for number 1. A position this album deserves.

I dunno what I think, I just remember thinking back in 2005 that all the Elvis re-issues should've been NCQ.

Posted by: Regina 9th April 2018, 12:29 PM

Christ alive, if Kylie was selling poorly peopel would be attacking her for flopping. But she is doing well with a few different formats (which she isn't the first person doing by a long mile) and people are attacking her. She can't win. This is why the chart forum is generally a cesspit.

Who gives a flying f*** if she has several formats? It's not like she is holding you at gunpoint to buy them all. I only have the deluxe CD and vinyl. A casette is a nice nostalgic thing to have especially from someone who started her career when they were mos popular. Different vinyls look nice on display, if you have the money then by all means buy whatever you want.

Buying different formats is not different to people who sit and stream the same song over and over day in day out.

Alright, keep your hair on, Ms Phalange laugh.gif

Posted by: dazm 9th April 2018, 12:34 PM

At least they are genuine sales which should count to the chart whatever the reason people buy them. Multiple editions have existed many times in the past for lots of releases. 20 years ago it was commonplace for there to be CD Vinyl and Cassette versions of an album and fans would buy multiple versions.

Sales only count as one sale no matter how many times someone plays the record/track. Whereas 150 streams count as a sale - so someone streaming a record over and over is buying a record multiple times which they would not do (yet they could be playing the album less than someone who downloaded it or bought the CD). Streaming towards the sales chart should only count as one sale per user account - no matter how many streams/plays. If they did this the charts would be much better representative and fairer.

I am surprised Ed hasn’t tbh. All his albums are colour coordinated so would look cool having an orange, green and blue cassette, not to mention his fanbase are so broad in age range there would be plenty that would appreciate the nostalgia element of a cassette.

Releasing multiple formats or streaming and restreaming is basically the same thing.

You could argue acts releasing singles with an added rapper (for instance all of Little Mix's post album singles) is just another way of getting a hit and getting fans to re-purchase the same song albeit slightly tweaked.

Its the way charts are and as people have said people are happy for some artists to 'play the game' but not for others as its down to who they like/ support.

This thread mellow.gif can you really BLAME Kylie's label for wanting a #1? Who WOULDN'T want a #1 album? Especially when she's so close to getting one, too! Releasing 1k cassettes isn't desperation, it's a marketing tactic and obviously the fans are fine with that as they've sold out. It's not like Kylie's holding people at gunpoint, telling them to buy her album.

(I would say the exact same if it were Ed or Drake, for the record)

I don't know why I'm defending the album so much because I think it's pretty lacklustre (Dancing aside) but even without the bundles (if you took off 15kish sales), she'd still probably have the #1 on lock this week, so I don't see the big deal.

Also you have to bear in mind Kylie is NOT Drake, Ed Sheeran, Little Mix or Rag N Bone Man. She's an aging female popstar, who is way passed her radio relevance and gets no streaming. You can't really compare tactics of her to those artists at all.

Digital Sales Data wasn't far off with its 12k estimate for Ruti then! Lol at her being the midweek #1 due to lack of streaming data. Doing a lot better than Mo Jamil last year though, could even reach the overall top ten which is surprising.

Posted by: Dircadirca 9th April 2018, 03:13 PM

Dumb question, but with regards to Thursday streams always being estimated by the OCC, is that just done by adding 16.67% (ie the average of the prior 6 days) to the counted streams? I doubt it will affect the result of the chart to any note, but it would mean that Drake's Saturday released single would get a relatively slight underestimation compared to everything else that had streams on Friday.

Posted by: davidas 9th April 2018, 03:16 PM

Do album streams massively affect the overall chart? How does it work with Spotify when people are generally streaming tracks, rather than downloading a whole album? Sorry if a dumb question, but I'm learning... tongue.gif

Do album streams massively affect the overall chart? How does it work with Spotify when people are generally streaming tracks, rather than downloading a whole album? Sorry if a dumb question, but I'm learning... tongue.gif

Could streaming additions stop Kylie getting #1?

TGS amassed around 12k 'sales' from streams last week, so I doubt it will push them ahead given that figure is likely to decline this week..

It's an estimate based on the trends throughout the week, so if Drake increases every day prior to Thursday, the upweighted streams will have him increasing again.

Posted by: pippa 9th April 2018, 03:25 PM

Wonderful start for Kylie. I would think she should manage a further 10,000 for the remainder of the week. With its current sales it has already surpassed Kiss Me Once opening sales .

I greatly welcome Kylie having 2 top 40 entries although both will fall dramatically as the week progresses and streams are counted in. Both singles could possibly achieve new peaks this week for Kylie.

On a positive note it is shaping up to be the first Friday Chart Predictions thread this year to exceed 10 pages - the charts have been a bit predictable this year so far but at least there are some genuine battles this week, long may it continue...

Posted by: aeroco 9th April 2018, 04:11 PM

If there was a 'revenue' chart Kylie would be even further ahead! It's a music business after all, the idea is to make money. She's not getting 5 sales for every £50 super deluxe sold.

She doesn't need the cassette sales anyway to be number 1. She is miles ahead in every format except streaming. Even that is going to be better than expected I'm sure.

As we have seen with recent releases, her core buying fanbase has really fallen so I don't think it is right to assume she is number 1 because of fan multi buyers....it's more to do with a slow burning campaign since mid January, the singles are strong enough and she has won back old fans who probably haven't bought an album of hers since X or Aphrodite.

Praying ‘Dancing’ can snatch a week Top 40 - I don’t care if it’s 40-Out but it deserves a place seeing as it has held up so well, also it seems more like a genuine Kylie hit rather than a fan base one and seems to have appealed to a bigger market than some of her previous releases.

I definitely feel like Dancing will have more of a legacy than a lot of her high charting singles, even without the high chart position. It has had great longevity so far and obviously has left enough of a mark to get good album sales.

Posted by: Joe. 9th April 2018, 10:20 PM

Yeah Dancing was a minor hit of sorts I guess. It could have been a more significant hit with just a little bit of streaming data from Spotify playlists and some commercial radio AirPlay (I know Heart played it for a couple of days).

Posted by: danG 9th April 2018, 10:30 PM

It isn't a huge hit but it's at least done better than Into the Blue (a #12 hit but before streaming data counted and on preorders) which is great for her and certainly had a good effect on the album.

Yes, I'm sure this song that set streaming records and spent over two months at #1 on both sides of the Atlantic (not to mention basically everywhere else as well) was just charting not because anyone liked it or thought it was catchy, but just because it was by Drake. That also explains how his last single before it did the same thing rather than missing the top 10 and meandering about the 20s for the rest of its brief run before disappearing to ACR.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 10th April 2018, 07:50 AM

God's Plan is extremely catchy. The new one is too, but to a lesser extent and mainly because of the sample/beat (so far).

Posted by: vibe 10th April 2018, 08:04 AM

Let’s hope drake doesn’t rule the charts with this sub par material . The sample is the only good thing about it.

Posted by: FleetSeb 10th April 2018, 08:36 AM

God's Plan was really catchy I thought! I couldn't get it out of my head even though I didn't listen to it very much. New one is less catchy but I probably prefer it.

Also, and I appreciate this is a small sample size of a very specific demographic, but loads of people in Heaven on Saturday night knew the lyrics to "Dancing"

Well Drake is not very far ahead on spotify and looks like he might not get #1 this week. It is flopping slightly I would say. After God's Plan was so big, you would expect the hype for this new song to be big enough to get it a definitive debut at official #1.

I suppose though he is going against a huge viral hit in 'Freaky Friday' and God's Plan didn't really compete against anything in the charts so big, so maybe that's why the gap was bigger at #1 on spotify iirc.

Posted by: Jack 10th April 2018, 09:30 AM

I think flopping is a tad harsh, I wouldn't even say it is underpeforming really. I fully expect it to be another #01 for him laugh.gif

Posted by: Bjork 10th April 2018, 09:34 AM

Sure not flopping, underperforming and flopping are different things

I actually think he's doing better than expected on itunes
and on spotify, it's hard to tell since spotify was frozen all weekend and it wasn't showing on the top 50, we'll get a better idea today/coming days

could also be that he's started slower than usual on spotify cos there is a YT video already this time, unlike with one dance etc

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 10th April 2018, 09:41 AM

True. From the song numbers on the main page it's supposed to get around 6m update ww today which is almost 2m more than yesterday, no one knows how much it will be more in the UK but let's face it Spotify screwed him over for not showing the charts for 2 days and he wasn't on NMF of course and released a day after... And Apple music numbers must be big for him compared to the others, we'll see his numbers today. He can do easily 600k today.

'Diplomatic Immunity' is an actual example of a song that only charted because of it being a new Drake song, it doesn't have a memorable hook and was really only released for the fans and not intended to be a big hit in itself. And indeed, it only charted highly for a week before falling off.

it really does seem like just about any British rapper can casually make the top 40 now, I've never heard anything of his before and this one isn't all that great on a first listen. There's a lot better stuff out there like the new Kojo Funds, Yxng Bane, MoStack and Yungen songs.

I really hope Ruti can stay Top 10, and Kylie Top 40 for Dancing. I'm not really a Kylie fan, but her new album is excellent.

Anyway, amazing to see Calvin holding on to #2 and I also really like the new Drake song though I'm glad Calvin is doing better.

And Cardi B making the top 40 too. biggrin.gif 'Be Careful' is a bit of a tune, tempted to say it's a step up from 'Bartier Cardi' (though it's no 'Bodak Yellow') but it needs a few more listens first.

Nines already had a top 5 album, he's not a brand new randomer. I think Ramz aside all the British rappers breaking through (at least to the top 40) are people who have been big in the underground for a while already and are just now getting a mainstream breakthrough.

Oh I was aware, just pointing out that we get a lot more British rappers making the top 40 singles now when not that long ago they'd just have underground hits and maybe a top 10 album.

I mean she has it in the bag now seeing as her sales have held up during the week. But that wasn't guaranteed, and if you look at last week TGS sold 18k Tues - Thurs so there was always room for doubt.

But last week was special for TGS (Easter + Full Monty). The moment Kylie crossed 30k there was hardly any doubt that she couldn't beat TGS.

Posted by: Joe. 10th April 2018, 01:06 PM

I feel as though 'One Kiss' will probably overtake Little Dicky next week, and if not the week after (when they perform it on Graham Norton). After that (In 3 weeks) Ariana releases, and will, no matter how the song sounds, probably have a huge first week in the UK - I really can't see her not debuting at #1. So for the next 3 weeks it really depends on how this Drake song holds up, it could very well keep Calvin/Dua at #2 even if they do overtake 'Freaky Friday'

I'd never heard anything from B Young either prior to 'Jumanji' but Nines has been around for a few years now like you mention. I really like the Nines song that's in the chart at the moment, not as obviously commercial as other UK rap hits.

Do we know for certain Ariana is releasing a single in 3 weeks?

So two weeks at #1 maximum then for 'Nice For What' (so not the massive run I would have expected after God's plan's success), followed by a big run at #1 for Ariana probably! wink.gif

Nicki is supposed to be releasing this Friday - don't know if it'll do TOO much but then her genre of music is massively popular and aside from those three songs last year, we haven't had anything in ages so it could do well if the material is right?

Yes, it's been reported by quite a lot of officials including her manager.

It depends how Ariana holds up due to popularity of the song. If Nice For What is huge, Ariana might only be #1 for a week or two like Taylor, when the hype wears off and it'll overtake.

If Nicki's single does well I think it will probably build over a few weeks. Her last lead 'Pills N Potions', whilst fairly weak for a lead, didn't exactly set the charts on fire coming from a fairly big era.

I believe on iTunes it'd cap your total purchase at the overall EP price as well. The "make up your album" feature. Though I'm not sure whether that would've then converted it from 4 sales to 1 sale?

Drake closing the gap to Calvin, looks like they'll likely swap over by Friday (or at least be very close to doing so). Surprised that the gap between Lil Dicky and Calvin hasn't closed at all today, since Calvin's iTunes advantage looks a lot bigger than Dicky's Spotify advantage. At least Calvin is ahead on both of them now so he should almost certainly overtake next week, even if he is still stuck behind Drake.

It is indeed looking mighty close this week - Drake looking slight favourite at this point although it is almost looking too close to call.

i'm most surprised at the courteneers, the original album is one of those albums that debuts top 10, disappears next week, and it's far from a classic, it's not like the stone roses or anything, amazed they have more than 10,000 fans that would buy this

Even if sales dip 100%, with 4.5k you can still manage a top 15 position, sometimes even top 10!!!

I don't think the fall will be that brutal. She's selling 3k+ a day at the moment, even if that decreases to 1.5k/day next week, she'll still get around 11k which would have put her at no 5 on last weeks chart.

Looking at the competition, she'll probably be no 4/5 with Greatest Showman, George Ezra, Manic Street Preachers, and possibly Ed Sheeran ahead of her.

Looks like one of the Weeknd tracks will drop out of the chart from the Top 20 then eek.

Posted by: omrimayo 11th April 2018, 02:45 PM

Gonna be so close... If Drake would have release like everyone else on a Friday he would got it, it will be super close. Super! I hope his AM numbers are bigger than Spotify, he did nicely yesterday. I want Drake for 1 week and than Dua can take it for a long time it seems.

Try Me will drop out from 17 yet Wasted Times will remain comfortably in the top 40, quite annoying really.

I still don't agree with the OCC's artist/album cap anyway, I think they could have come up with a better solution. Like taking away a certain number of streaming points from every track on an album to compensate for listens of the entire album. Meaning Try Me would've had a run more like 30-44-65-88-OUT and not 17-OUT, and Pray For Me would not artificially drop out for a single week only to come back the week after (which reminds me of another rule which led to Eminem having a 2-7-21-OUT-30 type run a few years back).

Not if you extrapolate yesterday's Sales and factor in the extra streams it will be far from comfortable (Drake narrowed gap by nearly 2k yesterday and is only 3.8k behind).

BMG/Kylie are really going for getting ‘Dancing’ in the Top 40 this week - they have now launched a competition for 20 people who download the remix EP for 99p to win a date with her. Wish they had got it onto a streaming playlist and made the remixes 59p on iTunes too this week! Go Kylie cheer.gif

It’s not really a date...

Fancy Dancing With Kylie?

Purchase the Dancing EP (featuring remixes from Anton Powers, Illyus & Barrientos and Initial Talk) to WIN a once in a lifetime experience!

We’re offering 20 lucky winners a dance lesson with Kylie to a forthcoming single taken from the new album 'Golden'.

If you have already purchased the EP you will automatically be entered into the competition.

UK only. Dance lessons will be filmed and recorded for BMG use.

about 600 sales but at the rate Kylie is selling at the moment it seems rather unlikely that she'll keep a top 40 position.

Posted by: Midge 11th April 2018, 05:16 PM

If Kylie has fallen from 28 to 35 in a day then that doesn't bode well cos she's 700 copies behind the number 28 today, suggesting she is fading fast.

Such a shame. why not release EP etc on first day of week and Kylie Compeition, or at least on Monday..... promote it a bit more. Get a tweet sent out to her 2.4m followers etc. They are trying but maybe they thought a top 40 was in bag this week.....

well the EP should sell better today than yesterday. if she can sell 1200 copies today over all formats/streams that's equivalent to 180,000 daily streams which must at least keep it stable?

not sure they are desperate but maybe trying to show she can compete etc and add more success to the campaign.

Did you read the article about BMG & Kylie? its a cracking read and leaves me excited for the future of this campaign.....

Plus it is a no purchase necessary (have to do this for legal reasons, happened with all the album/ticket stuff too) so maybe they just want the people involved for the next video etc.

I am pretty sure we will get 5 singles from this campaign maybe 6..........

Daily sales yesterday:

8,719 Nice For What
7,968 One Kiss
6,918 Freaky Friday

If we assumed they sold the same again today, we'd get totals of:

44,340 Freaky Friday
44,104 Nice For What
43,587 One Kiss

And that's before streaming is upweighted, so yeah, I think Drake has it drama.gif

It's like Drake is closing 1K from Calvin and around 2K per day from FF, we have 2 days left (With streaming of yesterday and of today that will reveal tomorrow) I think Drake should do it easily (Close, really really really close) but easily with the missing streaming data of yesterday and of course today that will effect the chart at the final day.

Posted by: Bjork 12th April 2018, 02:08 PM

yesterday he did almost 2k more than Lil Dickie + 1 day of missing streams were he has a big lead

But no... there is another day missing on the chart now already, like tomorrow final chart numbers it will be 2 days of streaming, the one that missing now and the one of today that is counting for the chart, so it's not like 1 day missing it's 2 (1 sale of today and 2 streaming of today and yesterday) So that means it's more missing data that will give Drake the number 1.

I was about to say exactly this.

Considering the chart outcomes have been bland and stale, we're having a few 'exciting' charts this year - battles for number 1, songs on the edge of the top 40 (or top 20 or top 10)...

Posted by: timjimlee 12th April 2018, 02:40 PM

Whilst I agree with the analysis that Drake is now looking favourite to secure the top spot this week I guess the other variable is that in last couple of days Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa have been catching up Drake's daily combined Sales possibly to the point where today they could have highest combined Sales. Suspect the margin will not be enough to offset the upweighted streaming but going to be close. Lil Dicky for #3 definitely.

I like Drake, and I really do think his music has gotten better in recent years, but even I have to admit him dominating the charts is getting boring. If he releases another new single soon after Nice For What (which is very possible, as he is working on a new album for certain) then I've had it.

Posted by: Queef of Peace 12th April 2018, 02:43 PM

Drake.

Talentless Drake.

Again!!

Music has gone off the boil. It is DEAD. Someone put Back to Black on as the charts are officially OVER.

Which versions have you NOT bought yet?

Technically you could buy the main version plus 3 remixes singularly on each of iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and other outlets - that's 12 sales at least tongue.gif

Posted by: danG 12th April 2018, 02:45 PM

I reckon we'll get a new Drake album out of nowhere before too long, which will result in him getting yet another #1 probably. With his last album 'Passionfruit' went straight in at #3 and that was up against two Ed Sheeran tracks.

Kinda rooting for Kylie to end up being #41 tbh. (But I do think she actually will just about cling on now ~)

Definitely looking like at least a #2 debut for Drake then. Maybe a very slim chance that he could still debut at #1? ;o edit: yeah from the figures cqmerqn posted, it could be very close!

Why would you want Kylie at 41? sick2.gif

Posted by: Dexton 12th April 2018, 02:47 PM

I don’t think Drake is talentless tongue.gif I can’t say I’m a huge fan of him dominating the charts by releasing a new single every ~10 weeks which he is, so far, doing, but at the same time Nice For What is my favourite release from him in a long time so I’d happily see it knock Lil Dicky from the top dance.gif One Kiss should definitely be #1 next week so it’s not like Drake is blocking another #1 from Calvin (just a #1 debut)

Tomorrow could see a double Buzzjack meltdown - Kylie denied of a top 40 and Dua denied of a Number 1

Posted by: Hadji 12th April 2018, 02:54 PM

I hope Drake doesn’t snatch the lead. I want it to end up as

1. Calvin/Dua
2. Drake
3. Lil Dicky/Chris

Posted by: Bjork 12th April 2018, 02:58 PM

Dua/Calvin have no chance this week (sadly)

really rooting for Kylie even though the song is terrible, I can't at the mix of pop with country

Isn't a mix of pop and country quite common? tongue.gif I mean Taylor Swift managed it for a few albums quite successfully.

Posted by: iain 12th April 2018, 03:07 PM

Dancing is currently on 6,579 with 1,051 sales yesterday. She'll probably have to sell around 8k for no 40, so she'll need to increase her daily sales today.

Posted by: Hadji 12th April 2018, 03:13 PM

If today’s streams end up missing from tomorrow’s chart like they sometimes do, Calvin could get #1

Posted by: Bjork 12th April 2018, 03:16 PM

Thu streams are never missing
they're estimated instead of the real data but never missing

It's between Drake and Lil Dickie, with Drake clearly having an advantage, Calvin/Dua have no chance

Drake coming to have the 2 best #1s of the year so far *.*

(not that that's hard considering what the non-Drake #1s of the year have been)

Posted by: Bjork 12th April 2018, 03:34 PM

just checked cos I couldn't remember from memory so the UK #1s this year have been:
Ed Sheeran - Perfect
Eminem ft Ed Sheeran - River
Drake - God's plan
Rudimental ft Macklemore & Jess Glynne - These days
Lil Dickie ft Chris Brown - Freaky Friday

I would rate all of these below 4/10, terrible year for #1s so far

Posted by: The Snake 🐍 12th April 2018, 03:37 PM

Who knew Drake would struggle to make number 1? Maybe because it is less Spotify friendly (ie. chilled, suitable for background music) than God's Plan it is flopping!

The length of this thread too! ohmy.gif I assume in three weeks we will have a Friday chart predictions thread just as long, if not longer when Ariana releases!

I'm not really here for Drake most likely having another 10 week #01 but hey, that's the state of the charts right now. I'm not even entirely convinced Ariana will do it sadly, but I am pessimistic when it comes to these things.

Have just downloaded that Kylie EP laugh.gif I woudn't forgive myself if I hadn't and she missed by one copy. Don't really need it as it's on Now 99 and Golden but...I guess the Initial Talk remix is nice.

It's a bit frustrating that it's taking such a herculean effort to get Dancing into the top 40, and it still might not happen, when bloody Santa Baby slid in mostly just based on passive Christmas playlist streams.

Posted by: Midge 12th April 2018, 04:14 PM

Here's a question, if you download a song on Spotify for offline listening, does that count towards the chart at all?
As far as I am aware it does but you have to reconnect to Spotify online for usage data to be transferred. The maximum Spotify used to allow for this to happen was 30 days - after which the download would then not play without further authorisation - but whether waiting that long to upload the data would still allow all plays to count towards the chart I'm not sure about. To be on the safe side I would ensure the total plays data is transferred before midnight Thursday morning in the week you listen to the song to have the data count towards the chart for that week (when it will presumably count towards the 10 plays daily limit? I don't know the answer to that either).

Don't forget she fell back from 28 to 35 and around 700 sales from Tuesday to Wednesday so it's certainly possible - PLUS an extra day of streams to battle with too, which we know she'll fall back against.

Maybe 700... http://digitalsalesdata.com/diydsd.php?Region=143444

Although DSD does overestimate - there is no way for instance that ‘One Kiss’ sold 7K today on iTunes... especially because it sold 7,968 yesterday and that includes its massive streaming sales.
