The Hundred - the England and Wales Cricket Board's new city-based tournament - has been postponed until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 100-ball competition, involving eight teams in separate men's and women's tournaments, was due to begin on 17 July and end on 15 August. An England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) meeting on Wednesday concluded it was not possible for The Hundred to be staged this year. |

Not seen the detailed information about the ban. I would think it started immediately. That's what I have assumed. It therefore lessens the impact of a ban. It's rather like someone getting a two-year jail term and a six-month driving ban where the driving ban starts immediately. |

Australia have returned to the top of the Test rankings for the first time in four years.
Justin Langer's side replace India, despite having not won an away series since beating New Zealand in 2016. The Black Caps move up to second as India slip to third, with England fourth on the International Cricket Council's list. |

Players are likely to be banned from using saliva to shine the ball by the International Cricket Council when the sport resumes after the coronavirus pandemic, but the application of sweat will still be allowed.
The governing body's cricket committee heard medical advice that suggests it is highly unlikely coronavirus can be transmitted through sweat, but there is an elevated risk through saliva. |

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc hopes to return to county cricket before the end of his career.
The 30-year-old spent part of the 2012 season with Yorkshire. He was due to return to the UK this summer to play for Welsh Fire in The Hundred, but the competition was put back to 2021 because of coronavirus. "If a window arose and there was an opportunity, I'd certainly go," said Starc, who has played 57 Tests, 91 one-dayers and 31 T20 internationals. |

I’m glad The Hundred shite isn’t happening this year (Welsh Fire my f***ing ass!). Maybe Starc should sign for Gloucestershire instead?!

The England and Wales Cricket Board has extended the shutdown on domestic cricket until at least 1 August.
The season, due to start on 12 April, was postponed until 28 May and then 1 July because of the coronavirus pandemic. England are set to begin a three-Test series against West Indies on 8 July. Options for playing domestic first-class and limited-overs competitions later in the summer will be presented to the ECB in June. |

Cricket West Indies has agreed "in principle" to July's Test tour of England, but players and staff will take a 50% pay cut.
Next week, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is expected to announce a revamped summer schedule. England's three-Test series against West Indies is set to start on 8 July. The matches are to be played behind closed doors in a bio-secure environment at Hampshire's Ageas Bowl and Lancashire's Old Trafford. The series must first be approved by the UK government and the West Indies squad would have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival under current rules. |

QUOTE The BBC will show highlights of every Test and one-day international played by England this summer, starting with the three-Test series against West Indies in July.
Isa Guha will present the programmes as home Test cricket returns to BBC TV for the first time since 1999. England kick off against West Indies at the Ageas Bowl on 8 July, with highlights on BBC Two at 19:00 BST. Guha will be joined by BBC cricket's lead analyst Michael Vaughan. England's record Test run-scorer Sir Alastair Cook, West Indies' 2016 Twenty20 World Cup final hero Carlos Brathwaite, former England spinner Phil Tufnell and broadcaster Alison Mitchell complete the commentary line-up. |

"Sir Geoffrey Boycott's 14-year spell on the BBC's Test Match Special is over, with the commentator saying the coronavirus pandemic had essentially made the decision for him following his quadruple heart bypass. The 79-year-old former England batsman said he had "to be realistic". The ex-Yorkshire player, who scored 8,114 runs in 108 Tests, had the operation in 2018. "I would have loved to continue but I need to be realistic," he said. "My contract with the BBC finished end of last summer. I would like to thank BBC TMS and BBC Sport for a wonderful 14 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and just love cricket with a passion. "Covid-19 has made the decision for both of us." Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, said: "Geoffrey has been an iconic voice in our Test Match Special box for 14 years. "While we wish the circumstances were different, we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank him for his contribution to our cricket commentary over the years and we're still hoping to hear his unique cricketing insight at some point on TMS this summer." Boycott said he could still make the occasional appearance on the show. "Hopefully I may still have some input to BBC TMS if that tall, lanky ex-Leicestershire medium pace bowler [BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew needs an honest appraisal or wants to take the Mickey out of me, maybe he will give me a call while on air," said Boycott." |

Ben Stokes will captain England for the first time next week after it was confirmed Joe Root will miss the first Test against West Indies to attend the birth of his second child.
Root, 29, will leave England's training camp in Southampton on Wednesday, with the birth expected later this week. With the series being held in a bio-secure environment, Root will have to self-isolate for a week after leaving hospital before re-joining the squad. |

James Bracey starred with the bat as England began their three-day intra-squad warm-up match in Southampton.
The Gloucestershire opener scored 85 as a Jos Buttler-led XI ended on 287-5 against a team captained by Ben Stokes. There was also a half-century for uncapped batsman Dan Lawrence (58) and Joe Denly scored 48, while James Anderson picked up two wickets. The practice game is England's first top-level cricket since the coronavirus outbreak began. |

Legendary West Indies batsman Sir Everton Weekes has died at the age of 95.
Weekes, who scored 4,455 runs at an average of 58.61 in 48 Tests, is the only man to make centuries in five consecutive Test innings. He was known as one of the 'Three Ws' alongside fellow West Indies greats Sir Clyde Walcott and Sir Frank Worrell. |
