BuzzJack Music Forum _ Buzzjack Song Contest _ 👾👾 BJSC88 👾👾 PLAYER INTRODUCTIONS 👾👾

Posted by: Cody's Glory 5th September 2016, 09:40 PM

Hello. Welcome to BJSC 88. You have chosen: Player.

BJSC 88 is a song contest. You decide your song, the countries decide its fate. The countries with the most love during the semis will advance to the final, where the winner takes all. Watchers can watch from anywhere, but they are encouraged to film live.

You and 69 other players have chosen your entries. Now it is time for you to decide their fate.

But we can't let you do it without you getting to know them first.

Are you ready to take them on face to face?

Good luck players.

Let's meet the auto qualifiers, shall we?

@Cor_Lupus: Nhato f/Sasi - "Way Of Life"

Last year's contest saw the first appearance of a Vocaloid, and this contest, the home entry takes on another Japanese cult classic: Touhou. Can this Japanese/German team-up bring this game to life?

-

@Peoples_Independent_State_of_Slutland: Ariel Pink - "Not Enough Violence"

Look at this song; isn't it neat? He first competed with Kylienips only four years ago under his Haunted Graffiti outfit - can his name alone bring the People's Independent State of Slutland to victory?

Posted by: TheSnake 5th September 2016, 09:54 PM

Hyped. I will be following this thread. The ghaw2007 lyrics one will have to wait.

Posted by: Cody's Glory 5th September 2016, 10:10 PM

Now how about the rest of the players?

@#00274E: Station - "Secret"

The latest attempt at a #00274E comeback continues the streak of K-pop entries appearing at least once in a contest this year, with the only hit out of all of them being 4Minute's "Hate" representing Cadelicia. Maybe a deep house tinge only the land of numbers can churn out can change that.
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 9th

-

@Aelandor: Relient K - "Cat"

Only Aelandor can be brave enough to send a cat-related act to the country of wolves. They've had a weak streak so far, with an opening 4 DNQ's so far - can the Canton natives and their feline attraction enough for them to run with the wolves?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 22nd

-

@Aeroche: Project 46 f/Haley - "Stars"

Canadian producer duo Project 46 represented Mulgracia TWICE during the course of the contest - are they seeing stars with a new country on their team? This month, they team up with Haley, the vocalist of deadmau5 & Kaskade's "I Remember" for their latest single "Stars".
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 16th

-

@Aeyundore: Billie Ray Martin - "The Glittering Gutter (Dave Aude Remix)"

Aeyundore brings in who the Germans may consider a veteran to the industry, Billie Ray Martin. With a career spanning all the way to the end of the Cold War, she makes her first appearance in BJSC from a single from her first solo album in 13 years. Can she give Aeyundore their first final under the new name?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 26th

-

@Altyr_Muunilinst: SHAED - "Running Through The Fields"

DC electro-pop trio SHAED, consisting of twins Spencer and Max Ernst and frontwoman Chelsea Lee, have been compared to the likes of previous BJSC entrants such as Kiiara and Bishop Briggs; can their first outing perform just as well as those two?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 23rd

-

@Avalonia: Silver Cities f/Hayley Jensen - "Lights"

What did The Voice Australia contestant Hayley Jensen do before joining the show? She formed the band Silver Cities, consisting of herself, drummer Peter Wright, and guitarist Sam Young. This is a more pop-rock effort from Avalonia after the classical-infused "I Do" reached the top 10 last month.
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 7th

-

@Beaverdonia: Geo Louis - "Him"

Back in 84, Beaverdonia sent a lesbian anthem by Gia, and after two vetoed they've once again decided to don their rainbow flag with pride by sending gay anthem "Him" by Geo Louis. Articles have buzzed around this track praising the "Hollywood gay story" behind it. Last time they sent an LGBT+ anthem, they made the top 20.
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 19th

-

@Bignia-Zaragovina: Chord Overstreet - "Homeland"

At this point in their career, Bignia-Zaragovina have done it all: they've sent soundtrack songs from movies and TV shows, sent acts that haven't reached puberty, and now they have found a way to send a Glee alum without skirting the veto. Enter Chord Overstreet, an opener for Demi & Nick's Future Now tour, and now the latest entrant for BigZara. Is this a recipe for disaster, or will he end up taking the country to new heights?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 15th

-

@Botanikka: ALMA - "Karma"

Everyone better run (run run run run) because Botanikka ain't playing this time around. Not to be confused with Cadelicia's ALMA (who in her SoundCloud goes by Alma The Watcher and is based in Los Angeles), Botanikka sends this Voice of Finland alum with her debut major label release. With some Spotify exposure under her belt, can she bring the karma to the game?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 11th

-

@Brechtoria: Kelsea Ballerini - "XO"

This contest sees the return of platinum-selling artist Kelsea Ballerini with an album track from her debut album The First Time. Ultraviolenceland introduced this country starlet to BJSC with her debut single "Love Me Like You Mean It". Can she help Brechtoria break out?

(Also buy "Peter Pan" on iTunes because it is GORGE.)

'Love Me Like You Mean It' is one of the worst entries of recent times so... I will reserve judgement until I hear this other Kelsea song ofc but yeah Bradders I would not expect points from me here. kink.gif

@Buzzjack_Mountain: TheSnake f/Doctor Blind - "Wasting My Life"

The contest also sees the second original song this year, this time from local native TheSnake (who I assume is from the UK irl). Can BuzzJack Mountain impress with their creativity?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 11th

-

@Cadelicia: Feed Me f/Nina Nesbitt - "What It Feels Like"

Jon Gooch, a.k.a Feed Me, first appeared on the BJSC scene three years ago under the name Spor. This time he teams up with Scottish indie wonder Nina Nesbitt with their collaboration "What It Feels Like". This is the second time this year Cadelicia have recycled from Persephonia. Will history repeat itself and get them higher than his first entry?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 12th

-

@Cumulonimbia: Soulé - "Love No More"

UK-Born, Irish-based artist Soulé brings in a more R&B touch to Cumulonimbia's entry repertoire, which includes trance, garage, indie alternative, and a slew of other genres. Can this track with a drum and bass-influenced instrumental get them back into the final?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 33rd

-

@D'yermak'er: Sada Vidoo - "The Actress"

Move over, Melanie Martinez - there's a new doll aesthetic in town. Also from the brink of two vetoes, the mak'er have sent Danish living doll Sada Vidoo, who left the judges completely creeped out during an episode of X Factor. So what about her has gotten the mak'er charmed, and will the rest of the players fall for her quirky demeanor?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 26th

-

@Daehun: Taeyeon - "Why"

After getting vetoed with rising K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, Daehun opt for this latest Girls' Generation member's solo effort called "Why". The last time they sent something SNSD related was during their 50th anniversary where they sent the group's breakout hit (and a song that solidified K-pop as a standard genre), "Gee". Can she reach the top of the leaderboard alone?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 12th

-

@Deandria: Maya's Moving Castle - "When You Wish Upon The Stars"

Deandria brings in a Bjork-inspired Belgian artist in their quest to snatch their first qualifier since Blackbriar two months ago. Having only qualified three times this year, they have gotten the most DNQ's out of this year's winners with four so far (second place being ourselves with three), so they've got a lot of ground to cover. Can the wistful eccentricity of Maya's Moving Castle bring them back?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 32nd

-

@Desbuanda: A R I Z O N A - "Cross My Mind"

The New Jersey trio follow up their hit "I Was Wrong" with their latest single "Cross My Mind" representing Desbuanda. After extenuating circumstances almost forced them out of the competition, the mods have given them a second chance. But was it all worth it? We'll just have to see to find out.
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 3rd

-

@Dobago: T2Kazuya - "Youth"

One year since their debut in BJSC 78, they set foot on this neck of the woods with an upcoming producer whose stage name was inspired by Tekken. Enter New York native T2Kazuya who will be bringing a post-EDM flavor to the contest this month.
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 20th

-

@Espen: Cosima - "Had To Feel Something"

Espen returns to the more indie R&B sound with this entry from Peckham's own Cosima. Will this more subdued sound translate into a strong finish for them? They're hoping so - they had to feel something in order to send it.
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 25th

-

@Ethanola: Attom f/Ciele - "Afterglow"

Ethanola retires from the long songs for this contest to bring us a Kygo-styled tropical house outfit in the form of American producer Attom. Some people may notice that the song is only 3:40, much shorter than most of the songs they have sent this year. Is BJSC ready for this change of pace?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 28th

Posted by: Mattias 5th September 2016, 10:28 PM

gosh the video of my entry makes it seem so overly pretentious somehow sad.gif The song isn't bad really but it's defo my least favourite song I've sent this year.

Posted by: Bré 5th September 2016, 10:31 PM

Cadelicia recycling from us again *.* (almost doubly recycling as Nina Nesbitt woulda been a Persephonia entry ages ago too if her song at the time was actually online lol).

INTERESTED to hear this Buzzjack Mountain song to say the least. Lol.

Posted by: LexC 5th September 2016, 10:36 PM

Posted by: Cody's Glory 5th September 2016, 10:45 PM

@FARC: Patrick Hagenaar - "Turn Back Time (Back To The Time)"

A Dutch-born London based DJ? Well Yehesi can just throw them their 18 now. Whenever FARC sends a slick dance song, they do no wrong, as exemplified in the deep house-inspired "Save It" and their recent midtable position for "Love You With The Lights On". Do you guys have the nerve to vote for this guy?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 29th

-

@Federal_Republic_of_Ashton: Lisa Ajax - "Give Me That"

After a stinging DNQ with "Speeding Cars" just missing the final, they bounce back with... A MelFest veteran? Now I know they're usually cheap but... Anyway, she first landed on the BJSC stage representing Sandeborg and landing second-last. Will she give the Federal Republic that long-awaited second win?

(Warning for American users: the official video is not available in the US)
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 5th

-

@Fljotavik: Agnes Obel - "Familiar"

BJSC veterans will remember her representing Batidas in their debut contest and winning, leading to a spectacular year for the now inactive country. Now the Danish songbird returns to the contest she graced over five years ago, this time representing Fljotavik, who have had a pretty decent year so far. Is she still able to conjure up a hit in this new climate?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 27th

-

@Florina: Foreign Air - "Echo"

Florina's glorious return to the BJSC stage after a 7 contest hiatus brings us US duo Foreign Air. The country's biggest his prior to that was from the YouTube channel Foreign Family Collective. Is this a sign that it will do well?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 7th

-

@Flynnonda: Ruth Koleva - "Oceans"

Flynnonda aims for their first qualifier since February with Bulgarian songbird Ruth Koleva, previously seen in the first edition of Eurovision. Now I don't gotta tell you that things are bad concerning their qualification record, but we really need these guys in the final again. They did it last time they were in Cor Lupus. Care to make it two for two?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 2nd

-

@FSR_Rontvia: Theia - "Roam"

It's another one for the Kiwis as the Rontvian public have chosen Christchurch native Theia to follow-up their stellar performance last month. Can she whip up another win for New Zealand, and can FSR Rontvia take the podium for the first time since early last year?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 17th

-

@Greenfroze: Vicetone - "Anywhere I Go"

Greenfroze go tropical house and recycle an act that missed the top 10 back in November 2013. The Dutch duo have switched genres from generic progressive to generic Major Lazer styled tropical house. Is this new phase beneficial to them? I'm up with Spinning Records. Are you?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 28th

-

@Harmonica: PARRI$ - "Nasty"

We all remember Parris Goebel as the leader of ReQuest Dance Crew, who grew to international stardom following their features in numerous Justin Bieber music videos entitled Purpose: The Movement. The leader of this pack has now acquired a recording contract with her recording some ratchet hip hop and featuring the rest of ReQuest's "Royal Palace". Will you be ReQuesting this song all day long?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 23rd

-

@Hendinia: Love Thy Brother f/Ariel Beesley - "Love Me Better"

Conor and Liam Clarke, know together as Love Thy Brother, provide the second proposed summer anthem for Hendinia after worldwide smash "The Ocean". Together they team up with Los Angeles model/singer Ariel Beesley to create this jam. But wait... I thought models can't sing. Well you're gonna be proven wrong with this.
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 30th

-

@Hushkanukia: Emji - "Lost"

Coming off the back of a top 20, they enlist this Nouvelle Star veteran for a beautiful ballad. Interestingly, this is their first bilingual entry, after crossing the foray into a fully foreign language entry in Kristina Si. Will she be able to shoot for the stars, or will she be lost in the shuffle?

(Warning: for the Anerican posters, this isn't available)
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 9th

@Jadakissnia: MssingNo - "Scope"

lol why are we trying this is gonna f*cking win

Jadakissnia sends another dance track, and this time it sounds like they're blending the creepy aura of witch house with the slick sounds of the type of trap music vloggers use. Will this London based producer give Jadakissnia their first top 5? Who knows, maybe they will end up hosting BJSC 89.
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 24th

-

@Jukianië: Teyana Taylor - "Undercover"

This singer songwriter was first discovered in the industry with "Google Me", and then started taking off with singles like "Maybe" and appearances such as her judging stint on the All Stars season of America's Best Dance Crew. However, she is most famous for her sexual moves on the gym floor in Kanye West's latest video for "Fade". Can she stand on her own in this contest?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 4th

-

@Kingdom_Of_Horanius: The Opposites - "Licht Uit"

The Kingdom Of Horanius had only entered the first edition of WorldVision prior to this contest, but luckily the excitement for this has awakened them from their slumber and caused them to send Dutch hip-hop duo The Opposites. How will they fare in their first foray into the main contest?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 10th

-

@Kluminican_Republic: DEMN - "Green"

It seems as though the Kluminicans are out for blood this time around as they bring in Los Angeles producer DENM with his more indie-pop effort, "Green". He's been racking up plays there, so can the rest of the BJSC players see what they're seeing, or will they be green with envy?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 3rd

-

@Kylienips: Danrell f/Ryder - "White Noise"

The last time Kylienips sent Ryder, a clerical error forced her out of the running for the final. Now she is out for blood with this recent collaboration with Swedish alternative dance producer Danrell with a song that surprisingly isn't a Disclosure cover. Will she be able to make the final this time?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 31st

-

@Lomaja: Triple T f/JYP - "Born To Be Wild"

Newbies Lomaja are known to have a vast knowledge and passion for K-pop, and after also attempting to enter BLACKPINK (and after a small meltdown) they have chosen this triple teamer for their debut entry. We knew they were born to be wild: do the rest of the players agree?
Semi Draw: Semi 1, performing 5th

-

@Medhelnia: Hey Violet - "Fuqboi"

Medhelnia plan to continue their dominance in the alternative front by sending their first song with female vocals, let alone their first female fronted band. Hey Violet were sent the contest before and flopped, and the last time a song written about f*ckboys was sent, it dropped all the way to last place. But Medhelnia's fortunes have improved since then. Do you guys also think they got this?
Semi Draw: Semi 2, performing 13th

-

@Mulgracia: Monarchy - "Dance Like Hell"

Earlier last year London duo Monarchy went on a brief hiatus that was stopped by this unexpected single. They recently represented Mulgracia and DNQ'd; maybe their fortunes have changed for their return? Also this is a friendly reminder for all of you to play nice, kiddies.

@N_DNTN: Raye - "Shhh"

Raye has had a small following in the British R&B community, with appearances in radio stations since then. She had also represented Jukianië prior to this and landed in the same place as their previous entry. Can N DNTN keep up this amazing run of form?

Quite a lot of recycled artists it seems, and also a lot of stuff I'm liking on quick first listen so yay!

@New_Lexico: BB Diamond - "Praying"

Back in BJSC 83, BB Diamond represented Ramrynia with a song called "Feeling". Now New Lexico want to focus on another verb: praying. And this skirting past the veto is the first of many prayers they will need. Will God answer their prayers to finally get a win?

@Niceland: MÖWE & Daniel Nitt - "Lovers Friends"

The debut entry of Niceland goes to Armada Music signees MÖWE and Daniel Nitt, the former first representing Terra Avium with his rework of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good". So maybe this song can have some lovers (or friends) maybe? We'll see how Niceland does because first impressions are always key.

@Persephonia: Øfdream - "Thelema"

Persephonia send another French mystery dance outfit to the contest, just one month after their last French entrant defied all odds and scraped the top 20. This is more eerie than "Water Frozen" and could be the ticket for them to return to the top 20. Or they could just defy the odds again. They've done it twice now; can they make it a third?

@Pupok: Claudia Kane - "Einstein"

Pupok have gone from novelty entries to carefree pop to electrifying trance, and now they're back to a haunting ballad that draws similarities to Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence era. Pretty sure all the Girl Meets World fans think so. Joshaya all the way

After their first two anime openings have fallen to the ground, can this be the one to break the chain?

@South_Danaelanda: Avicii f/Karen Marie Ørsted - "Dear Boy"

Ha-hurrrrrrrrr!!! It's (South) Danaelanda's 50th anniversary, and they're inviting Avicii and MØ to the party! After an extensive voting process involving three possible Avicii album tracks, they have decided on this collaboration with platinum recording artist MØ. Can this get them back into the final? Or at least get them to make up with North Danaelanda? Let's face it, this ain't no South Korea.

@Suedeonia: Brian Eno - "Here He Comes"

Suedeonia sends the oldest contestant this month, English musician Brian Eno, at the beautiful age of 68. With something from the 70's, this is also the oldest song in the entire contest. Suedeonia holds these two records now, but are they enough to propel them into the final again?

@Taahino: Incredible Crew - "Running Errands With My Mom"

We've had Disney and Nickelodeon stars grace the BJSC stage, but never have we had anyone from the cast of a Cartoon Network show. So this is a first for the Cor Lupus books. Here's an interesting fact about TARO Bellamia: 10 out of the last 11 entries (since they first landed in NBC) have been male, with the only exception being Maty Noves from two contests prior. And they're adding 20-year-old Ryan Lawrie to the list. He got discovered through YouTube covers (not like that's become much of a surprise), and now he's going for gold here. Can this latest X Factor contestant traverse his way into the top tier?

Emma Carn first made an impact through appearing on BUNT.'s single "Journey". Now a new Armada Music signee, she plans to bring in a new flavor to Triangledonia's playlist. Do you guys think her genre-changing skills are enough to get them to the final?

Okay now to comment on the entries:

Someone's sending something that I wanted to send in the near future but chickened out on it because it felt too cheap lol
That was BB Diamond cry.gif cry.gif And to a lesser extent ALMA bc I played it over and over after hearing it on plug and when I saw the Spotify plays it was getting my heart sank. Lex, Addy, do me proud.

And for the Seohyun X Yuri thing I just put what JakeWild put on the spreadsheet lol

Thanks for all the comments about this you guys! I got inspired by the cast announcements from Dancing With The Stars so I thought I'd mix that in with the Nerve aesthetic.

Too late to catch up fully (will read the rest tomorrow) but yass at the Relient K/ Cat hype. wub.gif

ETA: Love the presentation Cody, and especially seeing as this is just an amazing little extra (with the reveal) I can't wait to see how you present the results.

As well as being a bit of a tune, Netsky is also a Danaelanda recycle *_* (which we recycled from Usfland but sshhh)

@Skall: Stupeflip - "Stupeflip Vite !!!"

Skall opt for French band Stupeflip this year, nearly one year after starting their foray into extremely long songs. With this and "ÅÆØ" last year, is this a new era of Skall entries in which they're all pretty much novelty? I hope you all embrace the madness.

???

There is no universe in which my entry this month would be described as a novelty song and I don't see how you can put it next to ÅÆØ. :S

Some interesting names this month though! I can't wait to listen.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I'd like to add my thanks to Cody for his brilliant presentation biggrin.gif
